Pavilion D7-4060US Help

I own a Pavilion D7-4060US running Windows 7 (not sure if it is 64 or 32 bit). The display was cracked some time back but I was able to continue using the computer via an analog cable connected to my tv.
I packed the computer away for about 5 months and now I am unable to get the display to show up on my television. I already tried using my mother's laptop and was able to see the display so I know the problem is in my computer. I also, after pressing the power button, have a blinking LED on my Caps Lock key. I am unable to figure out how many blinks it is.
What can I do to troubleshoot the problem?

Hi,
Please refer to the following link to check & possible fix:

  • Pavilion dv7-4060us Color Printing Problems...

I just bought a new Pavilion dv7-4060us Notebook and am having problems printing in color.  I have a Xerox Phaser 8550DP PS Printer that I'm trying to connect to through a wireless network connection.  I can find the printer on the network and install the "Xerox Phaser 8550DP PS" driver online just fine.  But, after all that, when I try to print, it will only print in Black and White.  For some reason it just will not print in color.  I've looked through all my "printer properties" and it doesn't even show color options!  It's like my computer just doesn't even recognize that the printer can print colors.  Like maybe that printer's driver is for some reason not recognizing it as that actual printer?!
I tried deleting the printer and the driver off my computer and installing it using the printer's original CD, but it says it's not compatible with Windows 7 OS.  But installing the driver via online and using the CD should basically be the same thing shouldn't it?  So that can't be the problem.  The "HP printer help website" doesn't really help at all because it's a Xerox printer and not an HP.  After reading through some forum posts I figured maybe it was a firewall problem, but wouldn't the firewall stop me from printing all together...not just prevent me from printing color?
Has anyone seen this happen before or heard of anything like this happening?  Right when I got the computer I kind of went through and deleted a few things I thought were Crapware, so the only thing I can think of right now is that maybe I accidentally deleted some kind of software program that lets me print color?!  Which doesn't really make any sense, so I don't think that's it.
Also, I know it's not a Windows 7 OS problem or my wireless connection because my brother's computer uses Windows 7 and connects through wireless as well, but his can print color just fine.  He set his computer up like a year ago so he can't remember how he set it all up or what he did, so he's kind of useless.
As of right now the only thing I can think of to do is try posting on this HP help forum and post on the Xerox Printer help forum and see if anyone has any advice for me.  If you have any ideas I'm up for trying anything because I pretty much NEED to be able to print from this computer!!  Any information can help out a lot so just let me know.  Thanks!

I have exactly the same problem with my dv7-4171us, my husband has the same printer and it print fine on my Xerox but mine only prints in black and white, its very frustrating.  I called HP and after 2 hours on the phone they couldnt fix it either.
I'm thinking of doing a full "f11" factory restore.  If anyone knows how to fix the color printing problem please let me know.

  • System Fan (90B) Error / HP Pavilion dv7-4060us

Hi. I have a Pavilion dv7-4060us notebook, Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit. I had an overheating problem not too long ago that caused my notebook to shut down on it's own. I bought a cooling pad to help with the overheating, which helped. But now, everytime I start up, it gives me a black screen reading "Operating System has found that a cooling fan has stopped working" or something similar. The error code was "System Fan (90B)." How do I get rid of this error message? Post back here or reach my email at [email protected] Thanks.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

This PreBoot Diagnostics that is indicating there is an issue with system fan. It would be a case of System Fan not running or running at slower speed than it should...
I would suggest, try doing power drain, by disconecting AC adapter, removing battery and pressing the power button for few secs... if that always you to boot to the OS, that Update the BIOS if not than I would suggest contacting HP Tech Support for getting your unit serviced...

  • Hp pavilion dv6 6180 help me for this error when I am using my recovery disk

hp pavilion dv6 6180 help me for this error when I am using my recovery disk
The destination drive is not connected

Hello Mohammadshamlou.  I understand that you're having some issues using your Recovery Disc.  It is giving you the error that the drive is not connected.  Is this correct?  How long have you had the notebook?
What issue originally led you to want to try a recovery?
The error seems to imply that it is not detecting the hard drive as this would be the most logical destination drive.  So, I feel the best thing to try first is verify that the hard drive is in proper working order.  Follow these steps and please post the result.

    Hi:
Wasn't the service manual of any help to you?
Basically you have to remove the motherboard to get to the memory. It does not look like a simple job.

  • New to the HP Pavilion Dv9000 (Dv9310ca) Help?

Normally I use a mac but today after fixing my aunts Dell Desktop PC (Bad RAM) She gave me her old HP Pavilion Dv9000 with the HP xb3000 Notebook Expansion Base. The laptop displays no video and the hard drive makes a repetitive clicking noise.
I removed the 120GB hard drive with Vista Home Premium 64-bit  and replaced it with a blank 320GB hard drive. As for the RAM, it had 1GB (2x512MB) which I removed and replaced with 4GB (2x2GB) but I needed to play a little game of mix and match to get it working as these only support 2GB acording to HP. After swapping around a different aray of 2GB sticks in each slot I finally got it working with two sticks in totaling at 4GB of RAM.
Now I have it running with a fresh copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit installed but it's having major heat issues I believe, I'm not really comfortable with these raging fan sounds, as a Mac user I rarely ever hear the fan unless it's under extreme conditions. Should the fan in this Dv9 be running at what sounds like 75% useage all the time?!
The laptop is also getting super hot and I've only had it on for about an hour (Installed Windows 7, Set it up, Downloaded and installed AVG free, now I'm here.) This is also the 1.6GHz model so it should be running super cool compaired to the 2GHz model with the HD-DVD player.
I've also installed CPU-Z to check on the CPU Temp and I noticed it's only reading around 800MHz from what should be 1,600MHz no? (1.6GHz CPU)
Another question is that why replacing the broken 120GB hard drive I noticed the second hard drive expansion which I thought was pure genius! I've never seen anything like this before and I wanna know if there is any way to put it into RAID with the first bay hard drive.. Perhaps I'll keep this beast and put in two 1TB hard drives for it, make a 2TB RAID Media Center as this also came with the media center remote that plugs in the side of the laptop too and with the xb3000 it'll look all the better beside my TV.
    Thanks for your time
    -Ben

So this "heat problem" was in fact a problem. I ended up getting the ever favorite blank screen of death!
After a bunch of searching, I found some great Disassembly videos of the HP DV9 on YouTube. I performed my own Mother board reflow for the Nvidia GPU, as well as the penny mod, and I upgraded to some really high end silver thermal paste with Diamond dust in it.
The reflow process was to reseat the GPU, the "Penny Mod" is to place a copper penny in between the GPU and the Cooling pad before the heat sink to create more downward pressure on the GPU it self which will hold it on the motherboard much better, and finally the Thermal Paste upgrade is simply to reduces the chip temperature as it makes removing heat from the chip far faster and more effective.
I also cleaned out the fan which was probably the cause of the GPU to fail.
All together, it took me about 2 hours from gathering all the tools I'll need to turning the laptop on and admiring my work.
I hope more people see this thread and do the same, it was extremely easy to do, it just took forever to find all the information I needed to do it.
    EDIT:
I was also reading that HP doesn't support Windows 7 on the DV9 so that is a good probability to why I have no Wifi anymore. Windows Update probably installed some generic Wifi driver which wasn't fully compatible. The best solution I've found for this is to install the OEM Vista Home Premium 64-bit, then use my Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit to upgrade it. This way it'll keep most of the Windows Vista drivers that are still supported in Windows 7.

  • HP pavilion dv7 4060us

So i tried to clean my dv 4060us's screen with window cleaner but it went down to the place when the screen connects to the laptop and now i can's see the right side of the screen (exactly the 1/3 of the screen is white and nothing else) the center 1/3 of the screen is perfect and the left side is good but a bit dim. So what could be the problem? It was about a week ago, so it should be dry. Should i buy  a new screen or only the cable wrong?
Many thanks! I have connected to a monitor so i can use it, but not movable!

what kind of window cleaner...not windex with ammonia I hope

  • Pavilion dv2-1201au HELP please.....

please someone help me....,i'm a newbie...
if i download an update driver for my notebook, should i update my hardware too..??
for ex...,i update a driver for my video graphics, should i change the hardware too?
please someone explain to me........    THANX before...

You cannot, it is soldered to the motherboard. The updates are just gradual improvements to the software that allows the hardware to work with the operating system (Windows drivers) as well as possible, but you cannot make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. The hardware determines how powerful the computer is and the software just makes sure the hardware you have can do its job. If you have a desktop you can add, remove and update hardware like the graphics card without a lot of hassle. With a laptop your options are way more limited, almost to the point of being non-existent. When you buy a laptop it has to be what you want and need as far as hardware (like the graphics card) for its useable life. If you need stronger video you can sell your laptop and then buy what you want and need.

  • My Touchpad don't works how it sould HP Pavilion dv4288 PLS HELP!

    Hi!
My touch pad has a very strange function sometimes it works but most time it wont.
Sometimes i must put my fingers 10 times to get 1 cm wider on the screen.
What ist defect? The Touchpad should not be defect because sometimes it works for 2min.
    But mosttime not.
Ive prepared to check the cable it is ok.
What can i else do? (I read in a another forum that sometimes electricity can be the problem??)

I never made the touchpad wet. I've cleaned the touchpad and my hands to test it.
But it wasn't better. I can activate and deactivate the touchpad in the control panel under mouse.
I use the actual synaptics driver.
Today i bought a second touchpad to test on ebay. But the same problem. But it dont know if the second touchpad has the same problems.
Can it be that there is an defect on the mainboard or on the driver? Which driver should i use?
Sometimes if i wrote a text very quick than the cursor jumped in the middle of the text line. After i deactivated the touchpad the problem of the jumpy cursor was a away. What can it be?

  • Pavilion 23 desktop help!

I have a 6 month old Pavilion23 desktop which has suddenly aquired 8 lines running all the way across the screen (side to side) and it also looks as if there is coloured ink that has leaked inside the screen ( I know thats not what it is but its the only way that describes how it looks)
Its getting worse by the day and I have no clue what it is.
As this monitor contains all the workings and drives etc, it is not just a case of replacing a dodgy minitor, its the whole computer itself, and i really do not want to do that.
Thankyou in advance to anyone who knows about such things!
    Em

The problem might be with the graphics chip of the system or the display panel itself. As the product is 6 months old, please contact technical support. They will provide you the warranty support needed.

A specific graphics card requires a specific level (minimum wattage) of power.

    Hello,
Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum.
Your computer comes with Win 8 pre-installed but one of the steps to install/run Windows 8.1 is having updated drivers for Windows 8.1
Please, go to Control Panel -> System (or Start -> type winver and open) and verify what is your current version - if it is Windows 8 or 8.1
    Windows 8 is version  6.2.x
    Windows 8.1 is version  6.3.x
If Windows 8 in place, then , please read this article and enroll in the steps:
    http://www8.hp.com/us/en/pdf/instruct_update_win8.1_EN_tcm_245_1508074.pdf
Update to the latest drivers prior and post installation respectively for win 8/8.1 :
