Pavilion DV6 1311el power supply ok, power led does not light up

I own a dv6 notebook model 1311el that works just fine with a charged battery but it wont accept charge from the charger. The led next to the power jack does not light up, i have removed the power button bezel and keyboard and then i used a multimeter to measure the voltage between the wires of the power jack cord and there were 19.5 and 15 volts as it should... I am sure that the power supply works because i gave it to a friend of mine which has the same hp model.

Hello Nessuno,
I see your AC adapter is not charging your HP Pavilion dv6-1311el Entertainment Notebook, your battery indicator LED is not lit. I would like you to start here, this will help you determine if it is the battery or the power supply: Battery Does not Power Notebook or Hold a Charge.
A battery that does not charge might be the result of a power adapter failure, a system board failure, or a battery failure. Please perform the steps listed in the troubleshooting document in order to diagnose the failure.
I hope this is helpful.
Thank you,

Definitely follow this advice. Makes life much easier. As for the code itself, first be aware that you can't just "sh" it. It runs using arguments, so you'd run something like
# ./enlighten increase keyboard
Though I wrote that script for zsh, I believe it should be compatible with bash without issue. Below is a much simpler version of the script which will only increase or decrease the keyboard backlights:
#!/bin/bash
#<- Configuration ->
kbd=/sys/class/leds/toshiba::illumination/brightness
kstep=15
self="$(basename $0)"
#<- Error Handling ->
E_HELP=44
E_PERMS=45
#<- Function Declarations ->
permissions () {
if [ "$UID" != 0 ]; then
echo "$self must be run with root privileges"
exit "$E_PERMS"
fi
usage () {
echo "Usage: $self [-h|--help] <increase|decrease>"
exit "$E_HELP"
update-kbd () {
permissions
sudo tee "$kbd" <<< "$new"
exit 0
#<- Run Contents ->
case "$1" in
-h|--help)
usage
increase)
current="$(<"$kbd")"
new="$(( current + kstep ))"
update-kbd
decrease)
current="$(<"$kbd")"
new="$(( current - kstep ))"
update-kbd
usage
esac
Assuming you have the correct file being pointed to, you should be able to just run (assuming you keep it named "enlighten")
# ./enlighten increase
Let me know how that works for you.
All the best,
-HG
Ok so i copied that script, and tried to run "./enlighten increase" but it said i needed to be sudo, so i did it with sudo, and it said "sudo: ./enlighten: command not found"
Then i just did 'sh enlighten increase" And this time it gave me:
enlighten: line 29: `update-kbd': not a valid identifier
I have no idea what that would mean.
When i google "`update-kbd': not a valid identifier" all it comes up with is my topic lmfao. Not much help there.

• Satellite L650-12Z: Led does not light up when connected to power source

My L650 does not show the white light anymore when the cable is plugged in.
The connectors are clean, and the adapter is working.
The laptop does still run on the battery ( when there was still power in it).
Also without the battery, there is no white light indicating that the laptop is connected to the DC.
Does anyone know what the problem could be and how to solve it?

Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately the battery does not charge when connected.
Only when connected with the full battery it is working.
I have measured the adapter with my multimeter and it seems to be working properly.
Like you said, letting a technician look at it would be a smart idea.
I decided to send it to a service center in my city, in about 4 weeks I would have the notebook back they said.
Weird thing for me still is, that around three weeks ago the same happened. Windows said the power was not connected. But after plugging the power in and out a few times it worked again. Maybe this is a symptom of something?

• Just a little reassurance..DSL modem Internet LED does not light

After installing a WRT54GL between my computer and a Speedstream 5100 ADSL modem, everything seems to work, except that now only three of the normal four LEDs are illuminated on the modem.
The normal four are: Power, Ethernet, DSL, and Internet.  After installing the router, only the first three LEDs now stay illuminated. But, I am not denied internet or email (Windows Vista). Does this seem normal?

After installing the router if the Internet light on router is blinking…it shows the incoming & outgoing data….so blinking of internet light is proper connection from modem to router.

• HT3964 My Macbook air charges intermittently. At times when I connect the power adapter it shows that power is coming in but  says "not charging" and the led light on the power adapter does not light. At other times it charges normally. Any ideas?

Hey guys,
I am having problems with charging my mac Air.  Sometimes it charges perfectly but then at times much as it shows that it's getting the power from the charger, it says "not charging" and the led light on the charger does not light up. Any help?

That can happen when you are Taxing the system. No Apple supplied AC adapter supplies enough power to both power the system and charge the battery at the same time when the system is under Heavy Load, when you are Taxing the system heavily. At those times it will draw power from both the AC adapter and the battery at the same time. So if it is drawing power from both it can't charge the battery while it is drawing power from it.

• I recently bought a Macbook Air and a Thunderbolt Display and the laptop's power is supposed to come from the display, but the power cable on the display does not fit into the Macbook Air.

I recently bought a 11" Macbook Air and a 27" Thunderbolt Display.The laptop's power is supposed to come from the display when connected, but the power cable on the display does not fit into the Macbook Air.

If your MBair is a 2012 model, it has a Magsafe 2 power connection.  The monitor probably has the old magsafe connection.  If this is the case, you need this adapter.

• Why in my FP-TC-120 Module, the red leds are not lighting

The red indicator leds are not lighting, even if there its no TC conected, what could it happent the software works fine but the leds still turn off

The red LED's indicate Open Thermocouple detection. However, each channel can be configured for either thermocouple (temperature) or voltage measurements. If a channel is configured for one of the voltage ranges (+/-25, +/-50, +/-100, -20 to +80 mV), Open Thermocouple does not apply so the LED's are deactivated. Use the NI-FieldPoint software to make sure that your channels are in one of the temperature modes and not in voltage mode.

• My hp Pavilion p6230y died. It will not boot. The power button LED does not lite.

The power supply LED is lit, and all the voltages are correct (metered). The fans turn on when the power button is pressed, and I can feel the HDD turning and it gets warm. I stripped the system down to bare essential, nothing but wireless keyboard & mouse, HDMI connector to monitor. I cleaned out all the dust from inside the computer.I reseated the CPU chip. No beeps at all coming from motherboard. The CPU heatsink is stone cold. I suspect either CPU chip &/or motherboard. Anybody have any ideas?
This question was solved.
View Solution.

Usually when the fans twitch it means that the CPU is OK.  That is not a theory, it is practical experience. My next step is what I suggested to you. Clear the CMOS settings. That is usually a last ditch effort. I always have a spare PSU around to verify that it is not the culprit.
Follow the troubleshooting on this HP web document to check your PSU.  Just testing it with a meter does not help much because it can fail under load. The multimeter does not put a load on the power supply unit. Even those cheapie PSU testers are pretty worthless, except for a cursory test.

• Can i use an external power supply to power second graphics card?

hello. i currently have an ATI 5870 in my 2010 Mac Pro. I want to throw a Quadro 4000 in there as well, but i need one more 6-pin power cable. can i plop the quadro into the second PCI slot, buy a PC desktop power supply and just let it sit on the outside next to my Mac Pro, and then just run a 6-pin power cable from the power supply into the Quadro? i realize that the Mac Pro door would could not be placed back on...but i could figure out some way to cover up the opening so that dust doesn't enter.
would this work? anyone tried?

Hi,
Just want to ask a question that is not clear on everything that I have read. If you don't switch off the external power what do you take the risk for? Could you burn something or the card will just continue to work (spin the fan) after you turn off the Mac Pro? Where is the dangerous part?
Thanks!

• IPad 2, Axiom 25, camera kit, power supply = STILL power issues

Hi,
I have read a lot of the river views regarding the power problems associated with the iPad and maximum MIDI controllers from them and. I tried some new conventional instructions, And did the following:
- acquired a 12V power supply (at 750 milliamps)
- got the iPad  camera connection kit
I also have a powered USB hub, but with the  can locate and external supply for the midi controller I'm not sure how that would be necessary anymore.
Nonetheless, when I  plus the Axiom 25 into the iPad through the camera cit, I am presented with the following:
"Cannot use device.  USB Axiom 25: the connected device requires too much power"
Ugh.  Really?  It's externally powered, I plugged the USB into the camera kit then plugged the whole assembly into the iPad, as I read to do.  And still?
Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?  Is it the milliamperage on the power supply?  On M-Audio's Axiom user guide it specifies 250-300 milliamps, so more that that wouldn't matter right?
Thanks in advance,
Tom

Not sure if it will make a difference. I do know the USB via dock connector is limited as to how much power it can supply in order to conserve the ipad's battery life.

• Power Supply, or Power Inverter Card

i believe I'm suffering from a common problem with my 20" ambient-light imac. It shuts down intermittently, without warning, as though the plug were being pulled.
I've tried the SMU reset, sometimes it helps for a day or two, sometimes it doesn't. I'm ready to try replacing parts. The only question is whether there is a consensus that this is a problem with the power supply, or the power inverter card? I'd rather not replace both if I don't have to.
Thanks!

Hi there Eric,
you forgot to remind Lukaziod to backup/clone his computer (using SuperDuper!)before having it repaired!
As an aside, the ambient light computer is user serviceable, Apple can send a PSU and dyi instructions,

• Sattelite Pro U300: Battery LED does not indicate low power using Linux

Hi,
I have Sattelite Pro U300 and I'm using Linux.
I've notice one problem on my PC, it does not indicate that battery power is low (not blinking) and just turns off.
Is it this indicator driven by software or it is some hardware problem on my laptop?
Another small issue that monitor does not remember brightness for battery mode.
Thanks

Hi
>I've notice one problem on my PC, it does not indicate that battery power is low (not blinking) and just turns off. Is it this indicator driven by software or it is some hardware problem on my laptop?
>Another small issue that monitor does not remember brightness for battery mode.
Please dont be mad at me but firstly I would not speak about problems if you use the Linux on the Toshiba notebook. Fact is that Linux is not supported and therefore some notebooks features could not function correctly.
Regarding the battery led;
The LEDs are controlled by BIOS. As you know the notebook was equipped with Vista and therefore the BIOS support Vista.
As I said above, if you will use another OS like XP or possibly Linux then some features could not function correctly.
