Pavilion dv6 - 2090er - upgrade wireless card "b/g" to "n".

I have HP Pavilion dv6 - 2090er and I 'd like to upgrade my wireless card "b/g" to "n". What a model of wireless card is compatible to my system

Hi:
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01860375.pdf
Supported wireless cards can be found in Chapter 3, starting on page 3-6.
If I were you, I would get the Broadcom 4322AGN 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi Adapter with the applicable HP part # depending on what country you live in.
That is a dual band (2.5/5.0 GHz card).
You must get the card with the HP part # on it, or it will not work.
I like to get used but tested and working cards on eBay. So a search by the part number.
Or you can order new from HP at the link below.

  • Pavilion dv6 WLAN upgrade

    Hello, I have a dv6 product number A1U57AV.  BIOS F.19  Win7 64
After many chats with support, I wanted to put my findings out, and ask if anyone has found any solutions to this issue.  I was trying to upgrade my Intel Centrino Wireless N 1030 WLAN card with the Intel 6230 Advanced N card.  It states in the manual that my motherboard and chipset should support this card.  I ordered the 6230 from Amazon.com, and it didn't work.  I figured I had a non-genuine part, and returned it.  I was rooked into ordering the same card for nearly 4x the price from HP Parts.  I did so, and found that the same WLAN hardware configuration error 702 came up before the win7 boot page even came up.
I found through investigation that the part numbers of the hardware are on a whitelist in the BIOS, and if the configuration fits the restrictions, the hardware will work.  Unfortunately, I found that there was a mistake in the recording of the part numbers for the WLAN hardware. The 6230 is listed instead with a duplicate 1030 part number.  The correct part numbers are as follows:
Intel Centrino Wireless N 1030 WLAN module 631956-001
    Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 WLAN module 636672-001
The 1030 card is not cutting it for me, and is ruining what is otherwise, an outstanding laptop.  It's like having training wheels on a Cadillac.  All that would be needed is to insert the correct part number into the BIOS program code, and I am off to the races!
Can anyone help me?  Anyone have anything better to tell me than support did?  How do I get this problem to the engineering/programmer level of support?  So many questions.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
The following link shows its specs:
       http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c02982007
8GB is the max. BUT Crucial says for a similar machine:
        http://www.crucial.com/upgrade/HP-memory/Pavilion+DV6+Series/Pavilion+dv6-6170us-upgrades.html
    but not the following:

Confusion isn't it. To be at the safe side, I would follow the specs.

  • Upgrade wireless card for DV6-6B26US....

I have two Hp laptops that are used for work. One is a HP Pavilion DV6-6B26US and the other is a HP Pavilion G4-1215dx.
Recently our employer informed us that company network upgrades will require laptops to have dual band (2.4 & 5 GHz) wireless cards (as the are blocking 2.4 GHz bands in selected locations).
I initially attempted to upgrade the HP Pavilion G4-1215DX with an Intel Centrino 6235 Advanced WiFi card and found that the BIOS contained a whitelist preventing use of the Intel card. I was able to find and order a suitable replacment listed in the service guide for the laptop:
    Realtek 8188BC8 802.11a/b/g/n 2×2 WiFi and Bluetooth 3.0+HS Combo Adapter  (602993-001)
I cannot, however, find a suitable dual band wireless card listed in the service guide for the HP Pavilion DV6-6B26US. I need to know if a whitelist is employed in the bios for this machine, and if so, which dual band wireless card would be comapatible with this machine?
Alternatively, is there a BIOS avaiable for this machine (or both machines) that does not employ whitelisting of wireless cards?
    Thank you,
    Patrick

    Hi,
Unfortunately the whitelist is still present in this model series (Dv6-6000). I haven't been able to find any compatible dual band wireless card because all wifi chips from the manual are only 1x1. Have you tried the Realtek 8188 on a 5Ghz network? I don't think that it's a dual band wireless card..

  • HP Pavilion DV6 Graphics Upgrade

    Hello ladies & gentlemen,
I'm the proud owner of a HP Pavilion DV6 Notebook. The only flaw I've found is that it doesn't have a good video performance (which is a shame for a having an 720p HD display). The graphics device installed is a Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family.
How can I upgrade my Notebook graphics and video processing?
If you need any more information in order to answer my question, please tell me.
    Thanking beforehand,

    Hi,
For all practical purposes, it's not possible to upgrade your graphics device as the graphics chip is physically soldered to the Motherboard of your notebook.
    Best wishes,

  • Upgrading Wireless Card in dv7-6197CA to Intel 7260HMW IEEE 802.11AC

I'm looking into upgrading my wireless card in my dv7-6197CA to something that will perform a bit better than my current wireless card.  I was looking into upgrading to a card which supports the WiFi ac standard, and saw the Intel 7260HMW IEEE 802.11AC.  During my research I've heard something about only certain wireless cards being compatiable with HP laptops due to a whitelist.  My question is, will the Intel 7260HMW IEEE 802.11AC be compatiable with my model of laptop?  Thanks in advance!

Only wifi cards offered by HP on your model are sure to work and it has to be a wifi card bearing an HP Spares Part number or yes, the whiltelist will jump up and bite you. I am not aware of HP's offering any 802.11ac wifi cards yet.

    Hi,
I have ordered a FHD cable from China for a Dv6-7000 but it uses a different part number and the product number (50.XY...) is also different. You have to look for a LCD cable 50.4RN10.022.
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/LCD-LVDS-Cable-for-HP-Pavilion-DV6-6000-FHD-656805-001-50-4RN10-022-/1813516...
The thing is that most of the suppliers use the LVDS 50.... product numbers and not part numbers like HP. It took me hours to find the right product number for my Dv6.

It comes with 8 gb of RAM which is maxed. The CPU is fast already and an upgrade would not be worth it. The video cannot be changed. The hard drive could be replaced by an SSD and that is going to be a very noticeable upgrade. I personally have had great luck with Samsung 840 SSDs, either the Evo or the Pro series. The Evo is mainstream and the Pro is kind of pricey. But there are a lot of very good SSDs out there. If you need any more help post back.

Hi, I purchased HP Pavilion Dv6-6165tx and now I have to upgrade my laptop RAM.
Here are the two models i have selected and i'l like to know if these both models are supported by HP DV6 6165tx.
    1. http://www.snapdeal.com/product/transcend-jetram-ddr3-4-gb/1430631
    2. http://www.snapdeal.com/product/transcend-jetram-ddr3-8-gb/1430575
    Please reply ASAP

In your laptop, a pair of either would be supported. Since you have an Intel processor your laptop can handle up to 16 gigs of memory, 2 x 8 gig DDR3-1333mhz SO-DIMM.
    Your Service Manual
    See Pages 5-6.
You are better off running two identical size and speed modules so it will be dual channel

    Hi, Frank:
Below is the link to the service manual associated with your notebook.
Supported wireless cards are listed in chapter 3 on pages 19 and 20.
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01988326.pdf
You can only use one of the supported cards listed and they must have the HP part number on them or they will not work.
I would look on eBay for used but tested and working b/g/n cards of one of the models listed.
Make sure you get one listed for the country you are living in.
Query by the HP part number and only buy a card where you actually see the part number listed in the picture.
Or buy new from HP at the link below.

  • Pavilion dv6-1455ev upgrading memory

    Hello,
I just purchased an 8GB memory module DDR3L (L for low voltage I think), installed it in my pavilion dv6-1455ev but the computer fails to boot.  When I turned it on, a blank screen comes up and numlock and caps lock flash.  This indicates memory failure I think.  I had to install back the 2 modules that came with the laptop in order to boot it.
The question is what kind of memory does the pavilion dv6-1455ev support? Is it high or low voltage?  I beileve DDR3 is the correct option, I am not sure about the voltage.  And what configuration? Ie, 1 module, 2 modules, etc.  I tried to locate this information on the hp support page of the  dv6-1455ev but it seems that this information is not available.
    Thanks for any help

  • Problems upgrading wireless card

I recently bought a TP-Link TL-WN861N wireless card (Atheros chipset, AR9223) for my nw8240 laptop. I chose this particular device because 1) It's wireless 802.11n compatible, and 2) it uses an Atheros chipset that's compatible with the ath9k driver for Linux. But as soon as I turn on the laptop, I get this BIOS error message saying I have an incompatible wireless device and can't boot until I swap the old one back in. Is there a way to make it work or did I just waste $30 for nothing?

Well, sorry to say it is not going to work for you. HP implements a BIOS whitelist that only allows the system to boot if there is an HP tattoed wireless device in the wireless slot (or no wireless device). There are some very elaborate workarounds involving a rewrite of the BIOS Code with a hex editor. I would not try it.
This thread is dated but will give you an idea what is involved:
