Pavilion Dv6-6146tx fan issues

Hi guys
Im having fan issues, where when i play games such as Saints Row 3 or Dirt 3,  the fan will randomly cut out when the gpu temperature reaches about 75°C.
It is quiet hot where i live and room temperature is around 35°C
Is the fan cutting out due to the high ambient temperature, or is my fan just failing?
Any help would be great!
Edit: Here are the specs:
Intel core i7-2630qm @ 2.0ghz
AMD Radeon 6770m, 2GB GDDR5
8gb 1333mhz ram   (2 x 4gb)
640gb HDD
Windows 7

Does the laptop shut down or the fan just cut off? We get a lot of posts here about hot dv6-6000 series. How old is the laptop? Opening it up and replacing the thermal compound might help. You can also go into power management and reduce the maximum cpu down a couple percent. For some reason that does not affect performance but lets it run a couple degrees cooler. As long as the fan spins at all the fan is not at fault.

  • Pavilion dv6 QE CPU Issue

Hello. After I recently ran HP Support Assisstant for the first time since I got this notebook, I noticed a peculiar issue with my computer. Occasionally after some usage of my notebook I would look at my All CPU Meter and see that a single core out of the 8 would just randomly jump up to 100% usage and just hang there for a while. Usually when this happens, it is when I'm about to switch programs. Also when this issue starts happening and I try to shut off my computer, it will not shut off by itself and I need to hold the power button down for it to power down all the way. I think that Bins might be messing around with my notebook but that doesn't seem to be the case because when I turn it off it still happens occasionally.

    Hi,
Have a look at this manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02657339.pdf
Your laptop (the motherboard) supports only dual core processors (Core i3 and i5..). Upgrade to a Core i7 processor means that you have to change the motherboard.

  • [HELP] HP Pavilion DV6-6b50sa fan - abnormal whirring and grinding noises even after replacement

    Product:     HP Pavilion DV6-6b50sa
    Operating system:    Windows 7 64bit
    BIOS version:   F.1 C  (current)   01-2013
My laptop fan started making a very loud grinding and whirring noise constantly (very loud, easily heard in other rooms from the laptop) and after cleaning out with compressed air with no improvement I decided to get the fan replaced as it was clearly worn out in some way. (This laptop fan has always been loud, but never making this sort of grinding sound).
Replacement fan was ordered directly from HP and installed. However, while the noise is much quieter, the fan is still making a constant sort of whirring/very low grinding noise which gets louder and changes pitch whenever the fan kicks up to a higher speed.  While the laptop is now at least useable, this noise is still annoying after being on for a long time and I did not expect it to still have the same problem after fully replacing the fan.
Since then I have looked online for solutions and similar problems, having since flashed the BIOS to the latest version, checked both the hard drive and memory in the BIOS (both proved fine)  and tried switching between having the fan mode set to always on or not always on in the BIOS and messing around with HP coolsense. None of these have helped remove this constant whirring sound.
Now this laptop fan has always been loud. That I am ok with, I know the sound of a loud, yet working fan drawing air, but this is not the same sound. The fan is still drawing air sufficiently and keeping the system temperature down to an acceptable level, but this constant whirring noise is annoying when having to work on the laptop.
    [In Summary]
-HP Pavilion DV6-6b50sa  Laptop fan had loud whirring/grinding noise
    -Fan was replaced
-Noise reduced and grinding somewhat gone, but whirring and some grinding remains even with the new fan from HP
Any help would be great, I have tried to include as much information regarding the problem as I can but if there is anything else needed dont hesitate to ask and I can try to provide such information as required.
    Michal.

Also, when the fan is running at higher speeds the whirring/grinding noise is quieter and less noticable than when it is running at very low speeds... When running at very very high speeds (while playing games)  the fan sounds almost the same as my old one when it was still working, and at high speeds its more a whirring humm... Then at lower speeds it goes back to a more low whirring/grinding.
Not sure if this helps but its just something I've noticed...  Any help with this problem?

  • HP Pavilion DV7-3160US Fan issues

I woke up and turned on my HP Pavilion DV7-3160US which is less than 3 months old and it sounds as if the fan is loose and makes an awkward and annoying sound that stops after a few minutes  but anytime I move the laptop the sound returns while in movement.
Any ideas or suggestions? Also how long does HP normally take to fix computers? I'd hate to be without my computer for a while.
    Thanks.

  • HP Pavilion DV6-1253cl Fan problems.

    I bought a used DV6-1253cl laptop recently and it's in great condition. I installed windows 7 on it, installed the graphics drivers, and everything works great. But when I play games on it, the GPU temps soar. Here's a pic of the temps I'm getting;
Here is an audio clip of what the fan sound like (Turn up the volume) http://www.filedropper.com/fan_1
    For those of you who have problems downloading the audio clip,  or are just paranoid, I'll decribe it for you;
Fan starts up for 2 seconds... 5 seconds of silence... repeat.

Sorry to bump but the problem still persists. The only fan shown on the system is GPU Fan, and it doesn't give me RPM's.. simply xx%. It goes from 30% to 100% from what I can tell. And before you ask, no. As far as I can tell the fan speed doesn't change when the fan is revving, it stays at 100% (or so it says).

  • HP Pavilion dv7-6025eo FAN ISSUE

How do I access the fan to a hp pavilion dv7-6025eo?? it makes sooo annoying noises, like some creep is attached to one of the blades and makes the fan instable... There are alot of guides on a dv-7 series notebook but none of them show on this model which has a different top cover... I just want to be able to see if there is something on the blades on the fan so I can remove it... did they really have to make it so difficult to access.........! thanks for advice

There ain't much left except the button board. If I recall, on that model the power button board is connected to the motherboard with a ribbon cable so there is no failsafe button on the motherboard. If the button board switch is bad there is no way to start it up.

  • NEW 3 week old HP Pavilion dv6, cooling fan always running

Hi the cooling fan in this laptop always seems to be running fast enough to be irritating, it was like this out of the box, other laptops I have had usually only run the fan during periods of heavy CPU usage but this one is running fast all the time. Any ideas, and dust in the vents is not the problem, BIOS ?

I also have the same problem. 8 month old HP Pavillion DV6. Bios updated and air vents cleaned. Fan runs constantly even without any load on pc'n.
Installed programme Core Temp to see temperatures and fan runs even at a temp. of 41C. Bios has a function to disable fan from running all the time, but even then, the fan seems to run almost constantly, plus the standard setting for Bios is to have fan runing constantly enabled. Would be greatful for any help/suggestions. This seems to be a problem for this pc when searcing for solutions on the Web.

  • HP Pavilion dv6 2122eo fan running almost constantly

On my now 12 month old HP dv5 2122eo running windows 7 64-bit home edition, the fan runs almost constantly, and has done so since purchase, even without any load on the pc.
Installed programme Core Temp to see temperatures, and the fan runs even at a temp. of 41C. Bios has a function to disable fan from running all the time, but even after disabling this in Bios, the fan still runs almost constantly. Would be grateful for any help/suggestions. This seems to be a problem for this pc when searching for solutions on the Web.

    Andrew,
You can't control the fan speed/function directly on HP laptops.  If you haven't updated the BIOS then try that.  Also, here's some other stuff to try.

  • HP Pavilion DV6 Sleep Mode Issue After Windows 10 Upgrade (Goes To Sleep After 2 Min Of Inactivity)

I recently upgraded my laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 10. The upgrade went smooth and everything appears to be running fine except for one anoying glitch. After approx. 2 min of inactivity my laptop atuomatically goes into sleep mode and logs me out. I have checked all my power settings/sleep settings/screen saver settings...etc and I have completed all the windows updates. I don't see any timers anywhere that require adjustment. Any help would be appreciated. Note: The laptop wakes up fine with no issues.

Hello Konacha, Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!I have read your thread regarding the computer entering sleep mode, upon Administrative prompts or a restart. There isn't a lot that could be done, but by the end of it, the issue should be resolved  Hopefully, the simple fix is creating a new power plan. Your current power plan may be incorrectly configured. This Microsoft website can help with all the details of this task: Change, create, or delete a power plan (scheme)  If that doesn't help, then personally, I would reinstall the operating system. This will fix it, as it will address any software conflict or virus that could be causing this. First, you should backup your data. I will provide information on how to do that: Backing Up Your Files (Windows 7) Once this is done, it is safe to do the System Recovery. Here is some information on how to do this: Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7) Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks again for posting, and have a great day! Mario

  • Re: Pavilion DV6 - loud fan noise and Core temp hits 89 degrees

My fan is beginning to be noisy, only started a week ago when it was a really hot day

What is the exact model and product number of the notebook in question?
NOTE: Do not provide the serial number.
How noisy would you describe it to be?  It is normal for the fan to spin faster as time goes on due to various amounts of dust build up inside the notebook.
I recommend starting with the steps listed in this video.  It covers desktops and notebooks.

  • Pavilion dv6 will not boot up.

When I start my Pavilion dv6, the fan starts, the on key light on, light on f12 key and on caps lock key.

Have tried taking out battery, and unplugging. Wait and power again. Same thing keeps happening.
    HELP please.

    Hi Thesaloniki,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook and getting a blank or black screen on startup. Try performing a hard reset. When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices, and remove memory cards from the card reader slot. Disconnect all non-essential devices. If that does not help try to turn on the computer you start to press F2 repeatedly till the menu opens. You can do a diagnostic test.
I would be happy to assist if needed as there are many models of Pavilion dv6's could you respond with the mode.. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?

  • HP Pavilion dv6-6b50sa notebook - Fan problems

    Product:     HP Pavilion DV6-6b50sa
    Operating system:    Windows 7 64bit
    BIOS version:   F.19   05-2012
The fan on my laptop failed earlier during the year and was replaced with a new unit. However since then the fan seems not to run fast enough in response to increased loads on the cpu and GPU. For instance previously when starting a video game the fan would instantly kick up to a higher speed and remain there, cooling the laptop sufficiently. Now the fan will often take a lot longer to get up to speed, and with some games simply refuses to go beyond normal idling speeds even as the temperature increases.
Any help with this?  I'm not sure if its a hardware or software issue. When I am back home again I will be replacing the fan with another new one to see. Tried updating the BIOS, have also installed HP coolsense and cleaned out the fan to no avail.
Any help with this would be much appreciated, thanks

    Windows 7 64-bit
For the past two days the fan turns off a few minutes into a game and doesn't turn back on until the laptop has cooled down to about 70C. This did occur after the laptop was used on a surface that did not allow it to cool down properly for about an hour. There haven't been any major changes or updates to the system and the fan is clean. Is there something that I can do to fix this issue?

  • Sound Issues HP Pavilion dv6-6158nr Entertainment Notebook PC

    Hello,
I have HP Pavilion dv6-6158nr Entertainment Notebook PC with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit OS. Recently I noticed issues with how my volume control works. I am not sure if it's an application issue (Firefox 9/10) or audio drivers. While watching playing an audio file or watching video my default playback device is set to speaker, but as soon as I plugin my headphones both headphones and speakers will go to mute. Some times disabling and re-enabling the device will solve this issue, and other than that I also have to restart Firefox to get the sound back.
Tried installing all the available updates form windows, also reinstalled/update the sound drivers as n admin with no possible fix. Also as shown in picture below, when I try to make a Google call using Firefox I use built-in mike an headphones. During that time headphones icon will be appeared in the window shown below listed as communication device and disable both audio in/out.
Let me know if any further information is required.
    Thanks.

    First uninstall the audio driver:
Click Start and type device in the search field, then select Device Manager. >> Audio, video and game controlar >> right click and uninstall all values under it >> restart >> download and install the following drivers:

  • Wifi issue w/ HP Pavilion DV6

I've owned an HP Pavilion DV6 1030us for a couple of months now.  Wifi issues didn't start showing up until a week after I purchased my laptop.  I found out that there's a problem with the motherboard and sent in my laptop to HP for a repair, but when it came back a week later, it was still in the same condition as it was when I sent it.  HP sent back a paper that confirmed that they had "repaired" my laptop, but all the problems I've had are still present.
Anyways, I'm just curious as to what I should do at this point... my warranty hasn't expired yet, so should I sent it back in for repair?  I don't want to wait another week if everything is still going to be the same... school has already started... so any suggestions?
EDIT: Sorry this is in the wrong section...
