  • Dv6 battery not charging

My laptop only works through AC power. The laptop works off of the battery if the battery is charged, but the laptop does not charge the battery. If the battery is plugged in and I plug in the charger the charging light does not come on and the laptop does not power on. On the other hand, when I turn on the laptop and then insert the battery the laptop shows that the battery is charging but the battery does not actually charge up. I thought this was due to a bad battery since I have had this laptop for a couple of years so I bought a new battery but I have the same exact problem. I have tried a different charger but I also have the same problem.

    Hi amkazant,
Welcome to the HP Community! I understand your frustration with the battery issue. It could be hardware related with the battery connection on the laptop not reading the battery. It could also be software related. The Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery is basically the driver that communicates between the computer and the battery. There is a chance that it is corrupted causing it not to read the battery. Follow the steps below and let me know how it goes.
Step 1. Go to Device Manager
    Step 2. Select Batteries
Step 3. Right click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there
    Step 4. Click Uninstall
Step 5. At the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driver
    Step 6. Shutdown the computer
Step 7: Remove the battery for minute and then put it back in
Step 8: Turn the computer back with the power cord as well.
When the computer comes back up it should automatically find the driver and detect the battery.
Step 9. Go to Device Manager
    Step 10. Select Batteries
Step 11. Right click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there
Step 12. Click "Search automatically for updated driver software"
Do the same thing with Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller if it is still not reading the battery.

I just bought a new battery for my HP Pavilion dv5t-1200se and it will not charge. It says "plugged in, charging (0% available). • Pavilion dv6629us battery not charging

About a week and a half ago my laptop stopped charging my battery, it detects the battery and it says is charging but its not actually charging the battery. I did a BIOS update and still the same problem, I also turned off the computer to see if the battery would charge when the computer was off but no luck. I tried to charge the battery on Ubuntu and on Windows 7 and it does the same thing. I ran the HP Battery Check and it tells me:
An error was encountered trying to access the battery. Please reinsert the battery and the AC adapter to retest the battery.
I have a brand new battery so I know is not the battery. I removed the battery and reinserted it and it still does the same thing. When I click on the bottom right corner battery icon it says that is plugged in and charging. Whats wrong?
    Here are some screenshots:
    Windows 7
Ubuntu 11.04 - the Natty Narwhal
In Ubuntu Linux I get this battery status on the Terminal:
    Battery Check
    present: yes
    design capacity: 6000 mAh
    last full capacity: unknown
    battery technology: rechargeable
    design voltage: 14800 mV
    design capacity warning: 250 mAh
    design capacity low: 150 mAh
    cycle count: 0
    capacity granularity 1: 10 mAh
    capacity granularity 2: 25 mAh
    model number: Primary
    serial number:
    battery type: LION
    OEM info: Hewlett-Packard
    Current battery state
    present: yes
    capacity state: ok
    charging state: charging
    present rate: unknown
    remaining capacity: 0 mAh
    present voltage: 0 mV

If you already have checked the problem is not the battery ( usually when the battery is new or when the battery is charged on another notebook), or the AC to DC converter, then you must check this first:
    1) Remove your battery,
    2) Unplug your power cord from the notebook,
    3) Push the power button for 15 seconds (if necessary you can hold down for 1 minute),
    4) Plug the power cord into the notebook,
    5) If the power led is on, your power adapter is probably working,
    6) Push the power button,
    7) If the computer powers on, your power adapter is probably working ( it's more certain than before),
    8) Try to use the computer,
    9) After Windows finished the entire start up process, you must insert the battery,
    10) It's expected that the battery icon shows charging.
If it happens to you,  therefore the problem is in the motherboard. The exact point it is in the ICC responsible for check and control the status of the battery. Up to know I don't know where is located the fault ICC. This fault ICC is a Voltage Comparator, usually it is an Operational Amplifier.
If you remove the powerplug the computer will start to drain the battery until the end, but if you reinsert the powerplug  the computer WILL NOT detect, and it will continue to drain the battery until the end.
If you remove the battery with the powerplug inserted, the computer will turn off, cause it doesn´t recognize the power source from the cordplug.
Remove the power plug, insert it again without the battery and the computer must be able to turn on.
If you turn on the computer, and after this you insert the battery than the computer will start to charge the battery.
    Resume:
    A) To charge the battery you must insert the battery after the computer it is on.
    B) To use the battery power you must disconnect the power cord, but you won't be able to charge it until you turn off the computer  and remove the battery, and to follow the step A.
    I verified that the problem happens to all DV6000 ( DV60xx ), DV6100 ( DV61xx ), DV6200 ( DV62xx ), DV6300 ( DV63xx ), DV6400 ( DV64xx )and DV6500 ( DV65xx ) series.
My case is a HP Pavilion DV6104eu, that I bought in UK.

  • HP Pavilion dv6500 does not charge battery

    Hi -
When I plug the power cord into my laptop, the battery either does not charge, or charges on and off for about a second each time.
I am 100% sure it is not the power cord, because a light in port on the laptop lights up even when the battery is out, leading me to believe that power is definitely getting to the laptop, but something inside the laptop is disconnected or else the outlet where I plug the cord into the computer is bent or something.
I cannot turn on the computer with the battery out and the power cord plugged in.  It might turn on for a few seconds then turn off.
Taking out the battery and putting it back in does not help.
Jostling the plug rarely helps, and the most that happens is the charging light flashes on and off.
It is no longer under warranty (I have had the laptop for about 2 1/2 years).
I heard from a friend that HP laptops sometimes have this problem.  Does anyone know how I can fix it???  I would rather not send it to HP for maintenance.  It would take waaay too long.  And I'm already mad that they (purposefully?) engineered the laptop so the fan is nearly impossible to get to, even though the fan clogging up is the first problem on any laptop.  It is my only computer and it is extremely important that I am able to use it for school.
Any insight would be VERY helpful.  Thanks!

I have the exatcly same problem. I am sure that it is neither battary or AC adapter as I have bought both new to fix this issue but problem remains same.
It gives me a impression that within the laptop (mother board or power connector) has the issues which does not give the power to the laptop to work , nor it gives to battary to charge.
Let me mention that when I bought a new battary, my laptop worked for 4-5 hours till the charge ran out from the battary and now again I am landed up to the same problem.
any body who has come across this problem and got it fixed , it will be really great if you can share your experience.
    Thanks in advance.

  • HP Pavilion dv6-1355dx not turning on using AC power supply.

    1. Product Name and Number:
        VM222UA#ABA "HP Pavilion dv6-1355dx"
    2. Operating System installed (if applicable):
         Windows 7 64bit
    3. Error message (if any):
Dose not turn-on  on AC power or charge the battery
    4. Any changes made to your system before the issue occurred:
        None
    Summary of the poroblem:
    Facts:
    1) The laptop works perfectly fine using the battery.
    2) The battery dose not charge using the AC adapter that came with the laptop.
    3) The battery dose not charge when the laptop is turned on or off.
    4) No chaging light turns on when pluged into AC.
    5) When the battery is pluged into the battery slot on the laptop, the white AC power led on the dc jack turns off.
6)The very second I remove the battery from the computer, the white AC power led on the dc jack turns back on!
    7) With the battery removed and the AC power supply pluged into the laptop, the laptop won't turn on, and the white AC power led on the dc jack remains on.
    Tests done:
    1) Used another adapter with the laptop, but had the same problem.
    2) Used different battery, but had the same problem.
    Interesting fact:
When the battery is completly drained out, the white AC power led on the dc jack turns on, but I still cannot turn on the laptop on AC power supply.
    Note:
I Have a multimeter that I want to use to test the power supply and charging circuit on the motherboard, but I don't have a schamatics of the mother board, so I am stuck.
Any suggestions from the HP community would be appriciated. Thanks.

The laptop has a modular DC jack that plugs into the motherboard with a cable and does not require soldering. The first thing to try is a replacement of that jack. Here is the Service Manual:

  • Hp pavilion dv6 cpu not functional

    Hello,
I have a HP Pavilion DV6 and after I press the power button the display remain black and the caps lock/num lock LEDs are flashing 1 time. I saw the LED flasing code and the error is CPU nou functional.
Please help me to solve this problem.
    Thank you.
    Doru

normally the only way to resolve the issue is to replace the CPU, if the unit is in warranty then HP will do this free of charge
I would suggest doing the following 2 things first however:
    Power drain:
    remove battery and power cable
hold power button for 15 seconds
    replace power cable only
    power on
    BIOS recovery:
hold Win+B and power on with these 2 keys held down
if the problem still persists after these 2 steps then the CPU needs replaced

  • Magsafe Charger not charging - when it lights up may not work

I started experiencing this a few weeks ago. Since then I have gone through 2 adapters.
The magnet works and everything, but it doesnt light up, and where that battery is up there it doesn't show any signs of recognition.
I have to wiggle it a little bit and apply some pressure to get it working.
Even then, it still sometimes doesn't work. It'll be green and say "Not Charging".
It doesn't always do that though. Sometimes it will charge. I have a new battery (from around christmas time) so it cant be the battery... i wouldn't think anyways.
Another thing, is when I get it charging, I have to lay it perfectly still. One little tiny bump or something will cause the light to go off and stop charging. I've cleaned the magsafe part and the part it lpugs into the computer. I have the same problem.

I had the same pin problem as many here. My neutral pin (outer most) stop pushing out, I can turn the plug upside down and the pin falls into place. Take a bit of wiggling to get it to charge the computer. This is a new magsafe, only 4 weeks old. I had to have my other one replaced because the exact same pin did the exact same thing again.

  • IPod Car Charger - not charging

I have a car charger made by Alpine that when plugged into my 5th gen iPod would connect it to my radio allowing me to play my tunes through my radio and it would also charge up my iPod. With my current iPod Classic, the charger/adapter does not charge up the iPod. Any reasons why this would not charge?

While I don't know if this is the actual reason or not, I can speculate.
Many USB devices can charge by just applying the power and ground pins of the USB port, so +5V and GND only need to be connected on the USB connector. However SOME USB devices are designed so that the two data lines also have to be hooked up. No data comes had to come across them, but the two lines need to be "active" in that they have a voltage on them (typically 2.5V) for the device to then charge off the power pins.
Many USB charging devices, if they are not moving data, like ciggy lighter chargers, Wall AC chargers, etc. only hook up the power and GND pins and leave the data pins completely disconnected.
It would appear the Classic, the Video Nano, the iTouch & the iPhone are different than previous iPods in that it may need to have the data pins "active" to charge. If you look at some of the chargers available from the Apple store, you will find that many will work with Minis, 1st and 2nd gen Nanos, 5th generation, 4th gen, etc. but NOT the 3rd gen Nano, iPhone/iTouch, or Classic while others will list all of them.
Again, I don't know this for sure as I don't have any of the new products so can not test it, but I am guessing that is what the problem is. You might try contacting Alpine and see if they have any sort of fix for the issue, like a patch cord or replacement connector or something.
