Pavilion dv6700 no audio output device, no DVD/ROM Vista 32bit

I actually have 2 of these computers, but the first overheated 5 years ago, and when I pulled the power cord the female part of the adapter came out of the cord jack with the power cord adapter. Neither of the batteries on these 2 computers were part of the recall.  HP Pavilion dv6700 notebook entertainment pcX-86 based Product number FE654UA#ABAmodel # dv6915ntservice ID 18240 Windows Vista Home Premium 6.0.6002 Service Pack 2 Build 6002AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-60Vista Service pack 2,  32 bit BIOS Version/Date Hewlett-Packard F.34, 3/22/2011

Error Msg - "No Audio Output Device is installed" - Mine is dv6000 series.... tried everything on this forum... fixes provided by Hp / MS did not work; sound, video and game controllers did not appear in the device manager; Recovery of driver from Recovery Manager did not work; system restore did not work. .... See how i did it.....Did a complete system Recovery to factory condition using Recovery partition... sound returned... worked for a few days... then disappeared again... so it was clear that it was not a hardware related issue but the reason was some update provided by microsoft (sp1, sp2, silverlight, internet explorer or one from those 100 updates that i got from ms after the system recovery (you can never say for sure which update neither can u pinpoint it to sp2)... its actually a conflict .... what i observed was that internet explorer update continued to fall in despite it already being installed.... so went and uninstalled it (not much of an issue just about 9 to 10 MB as compared to a fat MB of SP2). ... and there it was = sound returned !!! so did the internet explorer update which i hid from then on .  Prob solved....  The webcam which had also returned after the system recovery remained with me from thereon and was not affected by the win updates this time.  Now the only issue before me is the CD DVD Drive... which also appeared after a long period of silence (something like after many years) ie after the system recovery, but disappeared soon after the updates... so again not a hardware issue but a windows update issue... here too fixes being provided do not work... search continues for the DVD Drive restoration.

What is the make/model of the speakers that you are installing?  This will help me understand how they should be connected.  There are several ports for connecting the speakers on the Back I/O.  Once I have the information that I requested, I will see what I can do to help you get them up and running.

  • HP Pavilion dv6910us No Audio Output Device is installed

have a HP Pavilion dv9610us - Windows Vista Home Premium - A couple of days ago I got an icon in my taskbar with the msg 'No Audio Output Device is installed'. I looked in Device Manager and saw no Sound device.  Control Panel > Sound also says 'No audio devices are installed'. I decided to restore my system with factory installed software to start fresh. I still have the same problem. I have updated Windows. HP Update is also up to date. Not sure what to do next to get sound back

i am having the same issue i have tried looking in the device manager and there is no sound device and all drivers are up to date and installed

  • "No Audio Output Device is installed." vista sound problem *Attn. HP*

I've been seeing several posts attempting to address this issue but I don't think anyone quite understands how deep it goes... therefore, I'll try to give as many details as possible.
About two weeks or so ago the sound on my laptop started to behave strangely (crackling, device not found here and there, etc.). This occurred after I a) flashed to the (at that time) most recent version of the BIOS (I believe it was F.31) and b) updated the chipset drivers. My reason for doing this was that the fan in my laptop was rediculously loud (BIOS update) and that my ethernet adaptor suddenly didn't seem to work (after I updated the BIOS).
After I made those updates the sound device seemed to just completely dissappear. I have a HP Pavilion dv6700z CTO Entertainment Notebook PC, p/n. gw772av.
I even went so far as to wipe the hard drive and do a full system recovery... after which the sound card device for maybe a day or so then after a restart would be non-existant, then would re-appear. But at this point it is gone, device not found, can not find even in "Add Hardware".
The only "common denominator" here is that the BIOS I flashed to is still the same. Other than that, all drivers were set back. I can't particularly remember if I re-installed those same chipset drivers after but I believe I did.
If anybody out there has the slightest clue (hint hint HP), please respond to this thread.
    Thanks in advance,
    Travis

This goes deeper than you think. I have an HP Pavilion dv6000. It arrived with Vista installed. It has never, not ever, supported the external speak or headphone jacks.
I have speakers (externally powered) and headphones what work fine on all my other computers, including my newer and more expensive work HP laptop.
Most of the "help" on new external sound directs you to something like "Figure 2: Playback Sound Window and Mixer Showing Multiple Sound Devices." I have one device, the realtek internal speakers, and they cannot be configured beyond changing the fade from left to right.
Why is there not a useful FAQ on this issue?

Missing completely from device manager on an integrated component typically indicates a hardware issue.  It's not something that could have a loose connection as it is soldered onto the motherboard.
If you want to be absolutely 100% certain that it's not a software issue, you could perform a full HP system recovery back to factory conditions.  That would confirm without any doubt whether it is a hardware or software issue, but it is more than likely a hardware failure based on the behavior.
However, what is the hardware ID of the base system device?
This can be retrieved by opening the device in device manager and navigating to the details tab and changing the property to hardware IDs.  This should help identify exactly what the base system device is.

  • No Audio Output Device is Installed (intermittent)

    Model: HP Pavilion dv6810us
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit)
I have the above laptop, which has been giving me some troubles as of late. First the DVD Rom drive disappeared from the device manager, then the keyboard stopped working right, then the audio output device vanished. Well, yesterday I disassembled the entire thing, cleaned up all the gunk and cat hair that had accumulated on the inside and threw it all back together.
The good news is the keyboard works again, it's not overheating anymore, and the CD/DVD-Rom drive is back and functional, and the sound came back.
The bad news is the sound has gone kaput again and it again says there is no audio output device installed. I tried reinstalling the drivers, and that didn't work. It said couldn't install the drivers because it couldn't locate the device. Every once in a while, the sound comes back, but then it usually goes away again.
Soooo, is there a fix for this or am I going to have to break down and buy a new lap top and/or new components? I usually have pretty good experience with Altec Lansing speakers. But, now all that shows up in my Device Manager is the Bluetooth Hands-Free Audio and Bluetooth Stereo Sound....which doesn't really... give me any sound at all.
    Thanks in advance.

Its easy! Your sound drivers are corrupted.
    Just do the steps:
    1. Delete the sound drivers from the Device Manager
    2. Restart your pc
    3. Reinstall the drivers.
Note:1. Disable Internet before starting these steps.
              2. After restart When the windows tries to install drivers, stop/cancel it.

  • Satellite L20 - no audio output device using Win7

I purchased a 2nd hand Satellite L20 which was upgraded from xp to win7 on the task bar says no audio output device is installed.
Tried update driver in device manager -- no good
Downloaded Realtek AC97 driver -- no good.
It will play sound from dvd through usb sound device to head phones.
But how the hell do i get the sound to work on internal speaker.

Do you know which sound chip is inside?
This old notebook model is not supported for Win7.
    Try to install THIS driver.
If this will not help try to install Vista driver or drivers designed for other notebook models.
It is not easy to help with this. Check sound chip.
By the way: I asked you for model name and not model number!!!

  • No Audio Output Device is installed error message

I have a hp pavilion m6- 1045dx and when I turned it on I noticed there was no sound and the speaker icon next to the clock in the bottom right corner had a red "x" next to it. I tried pressing the mute button, up volume, and down volume buttons and that didn't work. I've tried power cycles, uninstalling and re-installing and even downloading new drivers, checking for software changes, and checking to see if software and things pertaining to this problem were up to date (windows said yes). My frustration level is through the roof and I'm ready to get rid of this laptop. Can someone please help?

  • No Audio Output Device is installed

    Hi,
I have a brand new Pavilion Sleekbook 14-b029TU running 64bit windows 8. product no: c7e65pa#abg.
to the right near the speaker is a red cross. when i hover the mouse over it it says no audio output device is installed. i followed all the ideas on the internet, all the trouble shooting on these forums and on hp help to no avail.
also, when i requested online support, my model does not come up in the options so i couldn't get help that way.
So if i right click on the speaker and bring up the sound options and look into them, they say that there is no audio output.
i went into device manager as suggested by hp, went to hardware, sounds, and checked and under sounds there is:
    intel (r) display auto
    high definition auto drive
they both say they are enabled.
    what's the problem?
please i've tried so many options. i updated. turned off and turned on my computer etc etc to no avail.
i'm losing my mind. this is a new laptop. i don't understand why the hell this is not working???
    PLEASE PLEASE HELP

What you are describing seems as if the sound device mute might be enabled.
Hold the Fn key down and tap the F11 key once. That should enable sound and remove the red cross in the systray over the audio icon.
    Best regards,
