Pavilion DV6928us doesn't recognize Connected Mic
I have a Pavilion DV6928us Entertainment Notebook with Windows Vista operating system, and I'm trying to use a voice to type program. I can't turn off the built-in microphone so that I can use the microphone headset that I've plugged into the front microphone jack. I've tried going into Control Panel and configuring the default microphone, but there is only the built in microphone there to select. I plug in the microphone jack of the headset in first to make sure that the notebook recognizes I've plugged something in, and it does, then I plug in the speaker jack. I've update the drivers and I've even tried Vista's Speech Recognition program. I've gone through Sound and covered up one of the internal mics on the laptop screen and it doesn't move the meter, I uncover the mic and talk and the meter responds. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have a Microsoft LifeCam Cinema. I had the same problem. I had the video, but not the sound. I went into setup for the cam. It was set to recognize another sound device. I changed it to the LifeCam and it worked perfectly.

I recently had a problem where my PC stopped recognizing that the player was connected. I had this problem once before and solved it by removing and reinstalling all of the player related software on my PC. Tried that again, but it didn't help. I tried connecting to another PC, still no response. I tried a different USB cable. No luck.
I then guessed that perhaps the firmware on the player had been corrupted. Up to this point, my player continued to play just fine but I couldn't connect to my PC and manage the player. I then downloaded the firmware and very stupidly removed the operating system from my player as part of the process of trying to reinstall the firmware. Of course, the PC still doesn't recognize that the player is connected so I can't install the new firmware from the PC. Now, of course, my player won't play either.
Any suggestions? I am frantic. Thanks.First make sure you have all the lastest versions of all the software (especially the driver as this is what the pc needs to recognise the player).
Another thing to do is try plugging it into all the usb ports. I sometimes find certain devices only work when plugged into the port which was being used when it was installed. -
Front Row doesn't recognize connection.
When I try to use Front Row I get a message that says I'm not connected to the internet. I have contacted Apple but they haven't been able to fix it. I've reinstalled MAC OSX but it's still the same.

What kind of connection do you you have? Wi-Fi? If so, even if there is no network, you might try plugging in an Ethernet cable. The cable does not need to be connected to anything, sometimes Front Row looks "first" at the Ethernet port for a network connection. If it finds a cable but no network, it may make the next step and look for a network on Wi-Fi.

I have all thenecessary updates. I have switched over from a PC to Mac back in April and have nad nothing but problems adapting. I don't know why this worked the first time, and put my videos inti imovie, and now it doesn't recognize it at all. And the Mem card reader does work, because I just put the SD card from my regular camera into it and it downloaded those fine, it just won't take my movies!
Which sony camera? I have a Sony HDR-CX550 right now and have been able to use the SD card as well as connect the camera directly. I also had CX110 that work too. You may want to try to copy the complete top level folder from the SD card to the Hard drive, then try to "import from Camera archive" and select that folder.

I have a Canon AH X1 video camera which uses the older 6 pin firewire - I have a 6 pin to 9 pin adapter, but when I connect the camera and go to Capture and Log, it doesn't recognize the camera is connected. Even when I click NOW, it does nothing. When I start up Final Cut Pro, it says
External A/V Unable to locate the following external devices:
Apple FireWire NTSC (720 x 480)
Your system configuration may have changed, or your deck/camera may be disconnected or turned off.
Please check your connections and click "Check Again" , or click "Continue" to set external device detection to None.
Then, when I go to Log and Capture, I get:
Unable to initialize video deck. You may still log offline clips or use Capture Now.
Beneath that, "Initializing Device Control..." stays up and frozen.
THEN, if I click OK and Capture NOW, I get a quick flash of a screen that disappears, and nothing happens.

My ipod touch is disabled and it says to connect to itunes to restore. I have never added the ipod to my devices on my itunes so when I connect it says that itunes doesn't recognize the device. I then put it in recovery mode and connected it to itunes and I clicked restore and it says that itunes can't connect until I put in the passcode, but I can't put in a passcode because it is disabled!!! I don't know how to fix it and it is only a month old, should I take it back?
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

Hello, my iPhone charges when I charge it with the wall plug but not when connected to a computer via USB and my iTunes doesn't recognize my iPhone either. iTunes recognizes my iPod and iPad just fine. I have been to Apple iPhone support page and I have restarted my iPhone, the computer, tried different USB ports, etc. I have also tried my iPhone on different macs even with different versions of iTunes and no luck. This all started when I was cleaning out some lint from the usb connector, could I have damaged some part of the docking connection? But why does it charge with a wall plug then?
I fixed the problem. When I was trying to clean the connector of the iPhone I must have bent some pins. I have straightened them to the best of my ability and now it syncs. If your iPhone charges, but doesn't sync, most likely you have a similar problem, because the iPhone doesn't need all of its pins to charge, but it does need all of them to sync.

Help! Whenever I plug my iPod in my iTunes freezes! Both my iPod and iTunes work perfectly fine it's just when my iPods connected. It also doesn't recognize it but it appears on my computer. My problem still isnt solved however I have got further. This has taken me many hours but by searching for ages, i tried the msconfig idea on itunes. After following the instructions, i found that it stopped my itunes from crashing. I then found the root of the problem - it was the Apple Mobile Device which was interfering and crashing my itunes. So i deleted it and yes my itunes was not crashing however I need it to sync my ipod..hmm.. so if I reinstall it, it crashes my itunes and if I dont, I still cannot sync my ipod.
Im not too sure what to do now however I feel a sense of achievement for getting somewhere.. Thanks for your help again X -

If these are new original DVD, you should bring your system in for alignment. If they are copied DVDs, the drive that made them may be out of alignment and your good drive can't read the bad copy. There is also another issue you may be talking about. Many DVD movies are assigned a country code and will not run on a machine from another country. This was intended to prevent piracy.

i just got an ihome system and had trouble with it connecting to my iPhone. I finally got it to work and now my itunes doesn't recognize my phone. My software is up to date on both my Mac and my iPhone and I have shut everything down and restarted. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:

Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:

Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
