Pavilion dv6z SM Bus Controller

HP Pavilion dv6z-6100 CTO Quad Edition Entertainment Notebook PC
I did a fresh install of Windows 7 to get rid of a bunch of stuff.  Everything seems to be working perfectly, except that I can't seem to get the SM Bus Controller driver installed.

I have tried going through the AMD website, Catalyst, downloading the latest driver from the HP support for the dv6-6100 and nothing seems to work.
Any thoughts?

It's the only device that Windows 8.1 can't find a driver for - I've tried to update the driver software in Device manager for it and it doesn't find anything.

    Hi:
    Try this Intel chipset driver...
    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=20775&lang=eng
If the auto install file doesn't work, download and unzip the second file listed (zip file).
Go to the device manager and click on the smbus controller needing drivers, click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver.
Select the Browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the driver folder that was created when you unzipped the file.
Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and see if the driver installs that way.
For the mouse pointer problem try reinstalling the touchpad drivers.

  • HP Pavilion SleekBook 15-119wb USB, SM BUS Controller Driver

    Hello everyone,
I have recently downgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 7 and I have having trouble in regards to finding the USB controller driver, and SM Bus Controller driver for my HP Pavilion SleekBook 15-119wb. I have tried everything so if anybody could please help me with this issue I would be very grateful.

    Hi:
Normally, the usb 3.0 drivers do not install on your model after installing the above chipset driver.  Only the smbus controller installs.
Use these two drivers to install the usb 3.0 controllers, and between all of the above, you should be all set.

Managed to get the 8.1 SM Bus Controller Driver Installed
I tried the AMD chipset earlier without success
Re installed both Intel driver downloads again with no joy
Finally tried to load drivers manually Sp 67245 by pointing to the intel saved directory again
This time the driver loaded altough I tried it last night ( another HP post mentioned doing something very similar)
    I should note I am dual booting Win7 &  8.1
When i started the computer was missing  2 drivers  PCI Simple Communications ControllerBCM20702A0 & SM Bus Contoller on both operating systems
For WIn7 IntelChipset Driver SP 65025.exe solved the Sm Controller Driver issue & SP 69680.exe Broadcom 2070/ 20702 Bluetooth Driver install the BCM20702A0 driver
For Win8.1 manually pointing to the Intel Sp 67245 directory on CWSETUP\SP245 loaded resolved the SM Bus Controller Driver
WIn 7 drivers installed without any issues such as above

Are you using drivers from your Support page? The AMD graphics driver usually has sm bus and usb drivers. The PCI device is Realtek Card Reader, also in the list. You can also order Recovery Media which reinstalls Windows and all drivers & software. http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-dv6-6c00-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-series/5191856/model/5210864#Z7_3054ICK0KGTE30AQO5O3KA30R1  Too bad your grandparents didn't use HP Recovery Manager installed on the laptop to reinstall Windows. That would have prevented this.

  • Rradeon HD 7690 dual-graphics doesn't work in hp pavilion dv6z-6c00 cto quad edition laptop?

I recently purchased an HP Pavilion dv6z-6c00 CTO Quad Edition Entertainment Notebook PC from HP's online store. The laptop was customized with a  Radeon HD 7690M discrete graphics card. There is a "dual-graphics" feature that allows a program to be configured to use either the low-power integrated graphics (a Radeon HD 6520G) or the high-performance discrete graphics (the Radeon HD 7690M). However, even when I set a program to use "high performance graphics", the program refuses to use anything but the low-power integrated graphics. When I use ATI's driver, it calls the card a "6700 series", and the card still does not work; when using HP's driver, it calls it the proper name, but the ATI Catalyst Control Center does not work (necessary to assign programs to the discrete card). There is no setting in BIOS to set the computer to use either card exclusively: in fact, there are no graphics settings, period.
Some examples of the games I have tried are:
    - Minecraft (I know OpenGL does not work with Dynamic Graphics)
    - Portal 2 (Direct X, so should work in theory)
Will I have to get the "special" BIOS update (outdated) that adds the setting for graphics switching?

I suggest dowloading and installing the latest driver for the radeon HD graphics module from the web support portal for your notebook.
What is the p/n for your notebook? (you can remove the main battery and get it from there or from the HP Support Assistant)

    Hi,
Try the following to manually replace the driver for the optical drive.
    1.  Download the following utility that will add 'Take Ownership' to the right click context menu.  The download is on the following link.
    Take Ownership
This is a zipped file.  If you don't have an extraction utility installed, download and install 7-Zip  ( if you have a 64bit version of Windows, you will need this version 7-Zip ) which can be used to open this so that you can run the installer.  Then just right click the zipped folder, select 7-Zip and select Extract Files.  When done, open the newly extracted folder and you will find the utility to add 'Take Ownership' to the right click menu.  Just double click it to install and then close the window.
    2.  Open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, open up DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall and click the prompt to complete this.
    3.  Click the Start Menu, open Computer, double click Local Disk C, open the folder 'Windows', open the folder 'System32', right click the folder 'drivers' and select Take Ownership.
Just below this folder, open the folder 'DriverStore', open the folder 'FileRepository', open the folder that starts 'cdrom.inf', right click the 'cdrom.sys' file and select Copy.
Close all open windows and then Paste this file on your Desktop.
    4.  Once again, click the Start Menu, open Computer, double click Local Disk C, open the folder 'Windows', open the folder 'System32', then this time open the folder 'drivers', right click and select Paste.  You should now get a prompt that the file already exists - select the Copy and Replace option and click on any further prompts to complete this.
When done, close all open windows and restart the notebook - when Windows reloads let it install the device driver and then let it idle for a couple of minutes.
Check if the drive now works correctly.

  • Pavilion dv6z-7000 hard disk short DST failed

I bought this HP Pavilion dv6z-7000 notebook (windows 7 64-bit) in the middle of September as a gift for my cousin who's in China. After I received my computer I found it was always not responding (e.g. When I clicked "my computer", it freezed and showed "not responding" for ~10min). As I was going back to China and there's no time to mail it back to HP for reparing, I reinstalled the system (windows 7 64bit) by myself and it looks fine for a couple of days. But when I came to China and was going to give it to my cousin, it showed the same problem again. Yesterday it got even worse -- it was unable to shut down or start windows.
When I did HP F1 start up tests this morning, each test (Start-up, Run-in, Tuneup, Hard Disk)  failed at Hard Disk Short DST:
    Failure ID: M4GG6W-67V68K-QFPK1F-60QG03,
    Product ID: A3G60AV
I'm wondering whether HP has some service center in China that can repair it for free? Or do I need to bring it back to the US?

    Hi
Incase you have a Global warranty you can get it fixed in China or else you can call HP Technical support and inform the same but the Part will be delivered only to US. The best for you will be to call HP Technical support and check the warranty and then decide.
Let us know how it goes!

  • Need SM Bus Controller Driver for A75-S231

Unfortunately I am without my system and backup disks and I am in desperate need of a driver for the SM Bus Controller. Problem surfaced after re-install of XP Home.
I called Toshiba tech support to identify the motherboard chipset shipped with my unit (specs listed at end of post) so as to locate and download the driver. Unbelievably, Tech is not equipped to identify the make or model of my motherboard or identify the chipset. Third Party software tells me I have a Toshiba EDW10 Motherboard and tech searched the internet and told me I have some VIA motherboard and good luck finding your driver.
Please help, I didnt think that Toshiba of all people would be unable to identify their own systems but here I am 4 hours later bothering you good people and still hunting. Does anyone have the SM Bus controller driver for the A75-S231 or tell me what chipset was shipped with my unknown motherboard?
My system specs are as follows:

    Motherboard Toshiba EDW10???
    Thanks fo your help.

    Hi
As far as I know your unit must be an US notebook model and please try to check Toshiba US download page under http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_home.jsp
Please dont be mad on tech support but I dont see any reason why they should know every technical detail of your notebook. Toshiba has designed drivers for every hardware component that you can have anytime you want and install it 1000 times if you want. Toshiba guarantee that it will work properly and I dont see any problem there.
Technical details you can get from Authorized service partners in your country.
    Good luck!

  • Satellite C870-11G - "SM BUS controller driver missing" for Win 7 64bit

    Good afternoon,
After extensive searching of the forums I have been unable to find a solution so far.
A few of months ago, following the demise of her previous Satellite, my lady friend acquired a Satellite C870-11G running Windows 7 (64 bit).
She acquire the machine online from PC World and after doing the windows updates set it up using the Zonealarm free firewall & AVG 2013 free antivirus. We installed the bundled Microsoft Office 365 and drivers for her HP F4180 Deskjet.
Initially everything ran fine but about a month ago the machine would not recognise the printer.
After doing the troubleshooting thing, the machine reported an "SM BUS Controller Driver" as being missing.
After a lot of net research etc, plus faffing around with the System Restore" function, I still couldn't fix it and so went for the 'nuclear option' i.e. I backed all her data up and did a full Factory Reset from the restore partition.
We've gradually been putting it back together, reloading her data, re-installing ZoneAlarm & AVG, Picassa & Office 365. Yesterday I went to re-install the printer drivers but before doing so checked the Device Manager only to find that the error "SM BUS controller driver is missing" had returned. Grrrrr...
I've been trying to use the system restore to go back restore point by restore point but that too now fails to complete every time with the error (0x80070005).
Before I go Nuclear again, has anyone any ideas please...?
    Regards & thanks in advance.
    Larry

Try please to reinstall chipset driver. I found it for your machine and you can download it from here .
Test it please and post some feedback.

1 - I used the retore disks and XP home is installed BUT the video, modem and SM bus controller all all flagged in Control Panel and not having drivers installed! The modem I can live without but I would like the video to work properly and the SM bus controller is also pretty essentil. Guess what, I can't
    a) find my model listed on the Toshiba website and
    b) I can't find drivers for either the video or SM bus controller.
I have downloaded the 'universal' Nvidia driver but it doesn't work! As for the SM bus controller, I've no idea where to look!
    Any ideas please?

    Hi
Your posting is a little surprise because all XP drivers for your notebook must be available on the Toshiba driver page.
Did you choose the right notebook series and did you download and install all necessary drivers???
As first its important to install the chipset utility and depending on installed graphic card
You have to choose and to install the right display driver!
Again! The drivers are on the page!
