Pavilion dv7 2060ez tv turner problem

Hello,
I have a HP pavillion dv7-2060ez that I bought in Switzerland years ago, and back then I was able to watch dvb-t without any problems with HP media smart tv.
I'm now in Greece and media smart tv can't find any digital channels. I've tried with windows media center tv too and it finds many channels but I have no image, just audio.
What can I do to be able to watch TV as I used to with my pavilion?
Thank you very much for your help!

Hi Krimomo. The HP MediaSmart Internet TV service has been terminated. Here is the document that I found regarding this matter.
MediaSmart Internet TV Service Is Not Available:

As far as Windows Media Center TV is concerned, I am not sure what factors are involved with this issue. Could it be a PAL setting? Do you have additional hardware involved (ie. converter box)?  I would recommend going though this next document thoroughly for the setup.
Set Up Media Center to Receive Digital TV:

Additional Information on supported signals.

Have you verified the tuner hardware drivers are updated and Windows updates are all completed?
Select your operating system for the latest drivers. The "Driver - Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices" category has the TV Tuner drivers.

    Hi,
First, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
    Windows 7
    Vista
Check if the drive is now working.
If it still doesn't work, click the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, click the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it now works.

  • Pavilion dv7 - heating and fan problems, hinge broken - DO NOT PURCHASE THIS JUNK!!!

This message is targetted towards people looking to purchase an HP Pavilion dv7 series of notebooks. Hopefully they are scanning these boards prior to purchase, something I (very) regretfully did not do.
    My system: Intel i7 Q720 @ 1.60GHz, 8GB, ATI mobility radeon HD5650 1GB, Windows 7 home premium 64 bit.
Almost immediately, there were severe overheating problems. Even under normal use (1- 4% CPU, Word, Excel etc.) it became too hot on the left side to keep on my lap. My kids actually burned their hands on that part. I once used it on a table with a vinyl tablecloth. It actually melted the vinyl!
Running any CPU/GPU intensive software causes a shutdown due to overheating, a real nuiscance with playing games or watching video in HD. Just as a test, I ran one computationally intensive program overnight while I kept the machine in my freezer. Even then, it overheated and shutdown! (I have not overclocked; just running my software on the hardware as purchased).
Even in normal use, the fan runs very high, and is very noisy. It is so noisy that I cannot leave it on in my bedroom.
Finally, because of the positioning of the vent, I am certain that the intense heat weakens the left hinge. I am very careful with how I open lids, always with both hands on the lid. Within two months, the left hinge cracked. I argued extensively with HP, but they insisted that it was my fault, and I was charged for the fix.
I'm wondering whether the designers ever turned on (let alone stress tested) these units prior to selling this piece of !@#$.
Added bonus: within 4 months, the hard drive failed, though I can't pin that on HP. While the drive was getting replaced, I went out and bought an Acer. It had better specs than the HP, was cheaper, lighter, and even with the CPU at close to 100 percent, the heat is hardly noticable, and the fan is barely audible.
I bought HP because most of the scientific instruments in our labs is manufactured by HP, and it is truly high quality , high precision equipement, some of it running for over 25 years problem free. From that, I really trusted the HP name, I trusted that their PC division would have equal quality and standards. !#$% was I wrong! I'm glad they're getting out of the PC business.
The only reason I'm keeping this junk is because I took the extended warranty at the store, and under it, after three major repairs, they will get me a new notebook of equal or greater value. I can't wait for that inevitable third breakdown!

The dv 7 eg 4012  is the biggest disapointment:
the hinge brakes, it has an overheating problem!!!
Be prepared to replace it after 12 months or pay the bill for the repairs, hundreds of dollars.
I purchased the laptop directly from the hp online store about a year and a half ago.
First of all I had to install the latest drivers because hp is not making sure it comes with up to date drivers.
To find out what the problem was I had to contact the costumer service about 6 times.
After about 12 months the laptop startet splitting at the left hinge.  The HP Costumer Service looked at the photos and told me this, Quote:  "We have received the attachment of broken hinges and find it is an user damage hence, the service of the Notebook would be done on chargeable basis."
Before you want to buy a hp laptop, please type into google:  broken hinge hp laptop
And you will see hundreds of posts of disappointed costumers.
Even class action lawsuit have been taken out against them.
For me, this was the last time that I invested about a 1000 Euros( bought it in Europe) in a product which needs to be replaced after a year and a half.
Please stay away from this product,
except you have plenty of time and money to keep this machine alive.

  • Pavilion DV7 Quick Launch Buttons Problem

    Dear all,
I have a new laptop Pavilion DV7. It comes with Vista Home Premium.
After updated to Vista SP2, the sound volume bar pop up on the screen ramdomly ( abnormal stepping up or down with click sound) ( I am not sure have it happen before update? Since, I do not check it detail before )
It happens at irregular time. It annoys me so much. Because it is my new laptop which taken on last Firday (23/10) and find the problem on Saturaday(24/10).
I have contact with HP technical center. However, it just on holiday and re-open on the coming Tuesday.
I am so unhappy and no more to use right now.
Besides, there are also no respond when I touched another Quick launch buttons.
    Anyone can help ?
    Thanks
    tlee

    Hello all,
I would like to report my updated news.
Since, HP service center did not give me call until the second day after I left my DV7 there.
Therefore, I phone to them actively.  One guy reply me that they accepted my new dv7 has hardware problem. They will arrange to replace a new one to me (since, my notebook is suffer problem within 7 days after purchased).
However, the guy has not replied me when I can take the new one. She just told me to wait.
I'm afraid HP guy told a lie again............. As for my previous post content about my experience ( pointing out wrong decision to choose HP product), HP people is not honest.
I think it is the HP mission right now : (   and the executives of HP seem to turn a blind eye.
Besides, I am still monitoring another threads of this HP forum. And find that the HP product tends to worse. It is not only hardware issue, but also the software driver issue.
And the interesting thing when I talked with HP technical center people. He already told me their drivers are no problem. He aways said it is Microsoft problem and want to misleading me go to contact Microsoft.
Alternative, you may find HP's competitor is willing to enhance their product compatibility with Microsoft Windows to become more reliable.

  • Pavilion dv7-4060us Color Printing Problems...

I just bought a new Pavilion dv7-4060us Notebook and am having problems printing in color.  I have a Xerox Phaser 8550DP PS Printer that I'm trying to connect to through a wireless network connection.  I can find the printer on the network and install the "Xerox Phaser 8550DP PS" driver online just fine.  But, after all that, when I try to print, it will only print in Black and White.  For some reason it just will not print in color.  I've looked through all my "printer properties" and it doesn't even show color options!  It's like my computer just doesn't even recognize that the printer can print colors.  Like maybe that printer's driver is for some reason not recognizing it as that actual printer?!
I tried deleting the printer and the driver off my computer and installing it using the printer's original CD, but it says it's not compatible with Windows 7 OS.  But installing the driver via online and using the CD should basically be the same thing shouldn't it?  So that can't be the problem.  The "HP printer help website" doesn't really help at all because it's a Xerox printer and not an HP.  After reading through some forum posts I figured maybe it was a firewall problem, but wouldn't the firewall stop me from printing all together...not just prevent me from printing color?
Has anyone seen this happen before or heard of anything like this happening?  Right when I got the computer I kind of went through and deleted a few things I thought were Crapware, so the only thing I can think of right now is that maybe I accidentally deleted some kind of software program that lets me print color?!  Which doesn't really make any sense, so I don't think that's it.
Also, I know it's not a Windows 7 OS problem or my wireless connection because my brother's computer uses Windows 7 and connects through wireless as well, but his can print color just fine.  He set his computer up like a year ago so he can't remember how he set it all up or what he did, so he's kind of useless.
As of right now the only thing I can think of to do is try posting on this HP help forum and post on the Xerox Printer help forum and see if anyone has any advice for me.  If you have any ideas I'm up for trying anything because I pretty much NEED to be able to print from this computer!!  Any information can help out a lot so just let me know.  Thanks!

I have exactly the same problem with my dv7-4171us, my husband has the same printer and it print fine on my Xerox but mine only prints in black and white, its very frustrating.  I called HP and after 2 hours on the phone they couldnt fix it either.
I'm thinking of doing a full "f11" factory restore.  If anyone knows how to fix the color printing problem please let me know.

  • Pavilion dv7 4050ed - Windows Update Problems After First Installation

I have only just today received my brand new HP Pavilion dv7 4050ed and commenced installation straight away.  There were no problems in the initial installation and I booted Windows for the first time successfully and let it do its auto installs for things like Java and Adobe Reader.  I then moved to update and patch the laptop with Windows Update but immediately noticed that something was wrong.  Upon opening Windows Update I was met with a white cross in a red shield to signify an error.  When I prompted it to "Check for Updates" I was met with an error message stating, "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running.  You may need to restart your computer."  I get the same error message when I try to run Windows Live Messenger.
After multiple restarts and checking in the control panel that the update service was allowed and working, the error message still appears whenever I try to update or patch my machine.  How can this kind of thing happen to a brand new machine that I've had for less than a day and has only had its basic settings chosen?  It simply will not update, or even recognize that the update service is available.  The internet is fully functional so it isn't any kind of connection problem.
Has anyone got any ideas as to what the problem could be?
I probably should just add that the laptop is a Dutch purchase with a bilingual setup.  I chose the English setup option but was advised to include this information in case it could in any way affect the update system.

HP support provided me with the following link:

  • Pavilion dv7 laptop ac adapter problem. It works, but Windows 7 does not recognize it anymore.

The ac adapter works, and the battery remains at 100%, but the icon never switches from battery to AC.  The laptop will not turn on without the battery and just AC, yet the adapter keeps the battery charged at 100%.  Windows 7 will not perform some of the updates when it thinks it is running on battery.
    Any ideas?

I am having the same issue with my G61.  I apologize in advance for hi jacking your post and leaving such a long reply but maybe it will help both of us in the long run.
The problem started off by everyonce in a while my battery icon showing my battery needed replaced.  I ran the battery tool and it said the battery was bad.  I eventually replaced the battery to no avail.  Here is everything that I have done and noted while dealing with this problem.  After replacing the battery the battery tool would not run saying that in order for the test to work the AC adapter needs to be plugged in (computer will only work with the AC adapter plugged in).  If I am using the computer and the adapter happens to come unplugged it almost instantly goes into a permenant sleep and I have to hard reset and plug the adapter back in in order to use the laptop.
The icon at the bottom of the screen does not show the battery charging.  It only shows the battery in good standing and its current power level.  If I remove the battery it changes to no battery present.
Some wierd things that are going on are the computer will boot up on battery power alone but as soon as windows is loading at the desktop it will go back into permenant sleep and will have to hard reset.  Also the computer will not power on with the battery removed and the AC adapter plugged in but all my power indicators are lit up showing its getting power.
I just recently upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate and performed all the updates thinking that maybe that would fix the problem.  But it did not.  Although now when I run the battery tool it does not tell me to plug in the AC adapter.  It goes through the process and tell me that everyting is OK and my battery checks out fine.
One thing that gives me hope that its a software issue is that I have no issue using the battery when running Windows in any version of SAFE MODE.  I can run it till the battery dies without it going into permenant sleep.
I have read that it could be a motherboard issue but not sure how to verify.  Any help to help us figure this out would be fantabulous.

Remove the battery and look in the compartment where the battery was installed. You should see a Service label with printed part number and a product name. Please post the  (#2 in the image below) p/n (with all alphanumeric characters) here. Also post the installed CPU type. (AMD or Intel). That will give us a clear picture of the hardware configuration of your notebook.

  • HP Pavilion Dv7 4180ea Black Screen

    Hi,
I have a HP Pavilion Dv7 4180ea and my problem is that last night I put my computer on sleep and today, when I turned it on, there was nothing but a black screen, even if the computer was working fine in the background.
I connected it to my TV through a HDMI cable and the laptop is just fine, everything works perfectly when connected to the TV,  but when not, the bloody screen won't turn on.
I searched what the problem would be, but I couldn't find anything relevant to my situation.
I tried a hard reset and then I took the whole laptop apart, cleaned it out, changed the thermal paste and everything, connected the display cable...and made sure it was properly plugged in and turned it back on, but no luck with the display, it is still black, even though the computer itself works.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Flav,
I see that you're having issue with a blank display. I will try to help you with this.
As you've tested with another output source and it's working, this generally imply something wrong with the actual display.
Though you've taken it apart and put it back together may not have resolved, it it wasn't just a loose wire.
Anything software related, may not be viable to try, but you can still attempt a few things:
The remaining steps in here: Troubleshooting Black Screen Displays with No Error Messages During Startup or Boot
This may have additional steps -Resolving Problems with Notebook Displays
Also, make sure that the graphics driver is up to date. There were also recent Windows updates effecting computers in various ways included black screens. If this happened recently (after updates), try a System Restore
If none of the above works, I'd advise contacting phone support for repair/replacement options.

  • Problem with a Pavilion dv7 - Not Booting

    Hello,
I've a problem with a Pavilion dv7 wich is not booting.
When I turn on the PC the F12 key (Wireless) is fix and red and Capslock is blinking.
After search on the forum, I try several things, turn on PC without its battery, turn on without RAM module (2 module with no module, only on,...) but each time I obtain the same F12 red and Capslock Blinking continuously (1 per second).
If someone have any idea to help me I stay tuned.
    Thanks In Advance,
    Cyrille

    Hi Visruth,
I've clean the laptop with a compressed air bomb, so i don't think it's a overheating problem.
When I take out the hard drive I obtain the same symptoms, F12 LED Orange fix and Caplock LED flashes continuously (every 2 or 3 secondes). I did not find this combination (F12 Red + Caplock Continusly blinking) ?
For the record, this is the laptop of my stepmother and I am sure she did not make BIOS update ...
Anything else to help you to make the good diag ? A tools to boot with ? A hardware test to do ?
    Regards

  • Pavilion DV7-3090eo sound problem

    Hi,
I have a major problem that I need help with ASAP!
I just bought my first HP ever and as soon I came home and turned it on I realized that I can't use Skype and watch a movie or play a game at the same time because I use headphones in respect of my roommate. I need to solve this really quick because it's starting to get on my nerves. The sound from the game or movie goes out in my speakers and skype in my headphones.
When I don't use Skype all the sound is in my headphones.
    I have a pavilion dv7-3090eo, Windows 7 x64 and drivers from oct 20th 2009 (the latest I could find).
I have also tried to switch so my headphones to be my standard audio output but then all sound died and I had to restart my system.

    Hi,
Go to Control Panel -> Devices Manager -> Audio, Video and Games Controllers
and find there IDT audio card. Click on it with right button of Your mouse and choose properties.
Then go to ' Details ' tab and paste here Hardware ID .

  • Pavilion dv7 keyboard replacement problems HP Pavilion dv7-4069wm

Hope I can get some help. HP Pavilion dv7-4069wm, windows7 64bit. Ok, the sad story, I spilled a drink on the keyboard. Did not seem to mess anything up but the keyboard. First mistake, bought a used one off ebay. Turned out to be the wrong one, screw lugs on back did not match. Bought a second one, it seemed to work the first couple times I used it, backspace key would not work, then nothing worked. I did break one of the little tabs on the zif connector and used some tape like I found in another post. Could this be a connection problem, or just a cheap keyboard problem? I am smacking myself for the spill anyway, so ANY help is appreciated.
I forgot to ad, I am using this laptop as a media center, I currently have a wireless keyboard and mouse I use with it, and it works well, one concern being that on this laptop I can only turn on the wifi with the wifi key on the laptop keyboard. Is there a way to go into bios or a workaround to turn on wifi other than the laptop keyboard? I have the laptop power settings to put it to sleep when not in use, but If it would get shut off, not sure how I would get the wifi restarted if it did not automatically come back on.

use windows mobility centre to control Wifi. May require wifi to be turned on via dedicated key for first instance before it can handle toggling of wifi but may not so worth inspecting & setting up.
Problem with broken connector is probably cause of keyboard issue, the tabs don't just hold cable but also push it against contacts so you may need to revisit & improve your solution to this ribbon connector.
Have come across damaged connectors before & been able to use them by adding thin tape to top of ribbon making ribbon tighter fit in socket & contact better & also use some tape across top of connector socket & onto ribbon to hold it in place.
