Pavilion dv7 - Connector broken off the motherboard

I have a Pavilion dv7 where the speaker cover also has the on/off button. Now the connector for the cable from the speaker cover has broken off the motherboard so I can't turn the computer on. Can this connector be replaced?
Please help, I am desperate!

OK - thank you for your fast response

  • HP Pavilion dv7-6b21sm Entertainment Notebook PC Motherboard - disc info

    Hello guys
I have pavilion dv7 series laptop like it's stated up in the subject
I bought cable with conector for 2nd disk.
Now the question is what speed is possible through this cable or what my motherboard supports?
I want to install SSD disk inside but if there is only sata support there's no meaning for me to buy an SSD disc.
I tried msinfo32, dxdiag, info in support but can't find the product number or motherboard number to check what it supports
I'm attaching a picture of cable just in case somebody doesn't know how it looks
    my product number is A6J05EA#BED
    thank you

  • Lightning connector broken off inside iPad?

Has anyone else had any issues with their lightning connectors? I just bought an iPad 4 two weeks ago, and unfortunately the lightning connector broke off inside the iPad last night. I took it to the Apple Store, and they charged me $300 for a replacement iPad.
It appears that the lightning connector is significantly more flimsy and fragile than the old wide connector. Please be careful!

Here are some wonderful pictures of my 4 month old ipad mini with a broken lightning port.
My wife reported my daughter twisted it off this morning.
My daughter is 5 and not that strong. Not sure exactly what happened, but from the closeups it looks like a snap-off type action that caused the breakage. Notice the right side of the lightning socket seems to have its rim bent out of shape. I think the plug must have snapped off because of too much presure to the right.
I don't think the lightning socket is "blocking an extraction". I think if I can get something to connect to the broken off plug it will come out clean. Need to try to bent the tip of a tiny needle.
Please stop me if you guys have a better idea. I not going to bother with the apple store after what you guys have reported.
I don't want to open the case if I can help it.
Anyone know how to fix this without opening the ipad mini up?
    Plan:
    Needle first.
    then....
I'm looking into the super glue trick. I think I can put the ipad on a tiny vice and then find a drill press type tool to enter the center of the socket.
I am thinking of trimming down a credit card or something to place the super glue on and use the drill press to exactly enter the credit card into the socket to the point that the super glue contacts the broken off tip and not the sides.......

  • Pavilion dv7 only some of the sound comes out me headphones

This problem has been happening since I bought my HP Pavilion dv7.  I can play a game by myself and the audio will come through the headphones, but if I am in a skype call, only the call goes through my headphones and the game audio comes out the internal speakers.  Is there a way to fix this?  And did I do something wrong in the first place?
    Thanks.

Sorry if I am being rude, but I have been waiting 2, almost 3 days, with no answer, but most others above me have gotten an answer.

  • Power button connector torn off the logic board

During what seemed to be a routine repair I tore the power button cable connector off the logic board. Is there anything that I can do now that does not involve installing a new logic board?

Hey iBookfragger and Welcome to Apple Discussions,
Here's a pic of a 12" 1.33 board I have here in my repair pile:
    http://tinyurl.com/7s4epq
verify with a continuity meter that these points are connected on yours.
I then solder two tiny stranded wires to the SMT devices at the points indicated and lead those wires to the ripped socket contacts.
It's a lot easier and requires a much less steady hand than Duane possesses.
In addition some of these sockets leads didn't stick out as much as these for the 1.33 and are pretty much completely hidden under the socket itself.
These sockets were fragile. These were held physically to the board with the two solder attachment pads near the back. Others were epoxied to the logic board and the tabs were soldered to the traces.
I recommend not removing that plug when swapping out the hard drive. It's been ripped off the board too many times around here. Me included!

  • Speaker Connector Broken Off INSIDE Computer

The end connector to my speakers broke IN HALF inside my computer. Now the MBPro thinks that there are speakers connected all the time and it won't play any sound through the built-in speakers. I'm afraid that this would void my warranty and be expensive to repair if I brought it into an apple store. Any suggestions? I'm going crazy with no sound coming out of my computer (except that "dduuuummmm" sound when the computer turns on, annoyingly).

Before trying all kinds of stuff to get it out that might damage the mac, take it in and find out what the costs would be, if there even are any.
Then you can decide to have it fixed safely or trying it yourself.
I'm pretty sure that trying it yourself will cause damage so be careful.

  • Enabling pci gpu after onboard rgb connector broke off

I've had this machine for some time... and I like it! I had previosly installed a gforce 210 gpu in a pci slot. I took it out when I let my daughter use the computer for awhile so all the drivers & software are still installed. I just set the bios back to onboard graphics. She proceeded to break the onboard rgb connector clean off the motherboard. Now I have no visual graphic interface to be able to enter bios setup and change it to pci graphics output. I know it has Phoenix Bios but can't confirm what version. Can someone with this same machine log every keystroke entering into bios setup, making this change and exiting with save then post results here for me. Or if there is another way anyone knows to make this chage without being able to view anyting. Please and Thank you sooo much.

    Hello @baldyrod,
I have read your post on how you are looking to boot your system back to before you enabled the video card for onboard graphics, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
Since the rgb connector was ripped clean off of the motherboard, I recommend contacting our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

  • Upgrade the two Hdds of HP Pavilion dv7-3190ev

I want to upgrade the two HDDs of 500GB in my HP Pavilion dv7-3190ev.  What the maximum size of GBs that i can replace them , without any problem with power supply or any other problem in operation?...

    Hi,
At this stage, 1TB is a good number for laptop HDD's. You may also need to update the BIOS. My dv7 actually has 2 HDD's (2 x 1TB).

  • HP Pavilion dv7-6b32us Fan Buzzes when running fast

I have an HP Pavilion dv7-6b32us and within the past few months my laptop heats up pretty easy and whenever the fan starts running really fast it will buzz and it vibrates enough that I can feel it a bit in the top left area of the laptop, the only way it stops is if I tap that area pretty hard. I'm assuming this means the bearings or something on the fan are shot, and it needs to be replaced. I've tried to clean the fan area the best I can (though there's never a lot of dust inside) but if I remember from the last time I took it apart, I can't get to it very easily without removing the motherboard, so i have to clean the fan with the cover on. Is there a way to fix this or if not, where can I get a replacement fan?

    Hi,
Have a look at the service guide.

Your laptop should have a shared graphics Intel 3000 so pick the heat sink/fan assembly for the Intel UMA memory:

  • Battery Compatibility for my HP Pavilion dv7 Entertainment PC

    Hi,
The spare part number for my HP laptop battery reads 593554-001. The closest match I found in the market was 593553-001. Both these numbers, however, are grouped under the model MU06. Yesterday, I ordered a MU06 online, and in all likelihood, it will be a 593553-001.
Even if 593553-001 fits properly and all, is it okay to use it with my HP Pavilion dv7 6010tx simply because the battery that originally came with the laptop is also a MU06?
    Has anyone tried this before?
I will appreciate your kind thoughts.
    Cheers.

    Hi,
Heaps of machines use 593553-001 but not HP Pavilion dv7 6010tx as shown:

You definitely need 593554-001 and you can order from:

  • AMD Radeon Driver problem in Pavilion dv7 notebook

I have a pavilion dv7 notebook and for the last couple months I have been experiencing problems with my graphics driver.
It began with a notice that my driver was out of date, so I went to the AMD website and attempted to install the update. I ran the dxdiag tool to find that I have a AMD Radeon HD 6620G graphics card. I could not find my product on the list to manually install the update, so I tried the amd driver downloader tool and it had a problem recognizing my graphics card. I then tried to update it through the HP Support Assistance and that seemed to work for awhile.
Yesterday my screen changed to the lowest resolution and a notice came up that it wasn't recognizing my graphics driver. I have again tried to manually update from the AMD website. When that didn't work I downloaded the AMD driver downloader and after installing all it told me is that "your computer does not contain a proper graphics adapter" and closed the program.
I am uterally lost at this point, and any assistance would be greatly apreciated.

  • My pavilion dv7 cuts off when i move the screen.

This is an obvious short somewhere that cuts off the power.  slight movement changes the color of the screen and if you move it further then it just shorts out and cuts off.  anyone else have a problem like this or know how to fix it without sending my computer away for months?

It sounds like you may have a break in a cable going to the display which sometimes makes contact and sometimes does not. I'm not sure why it's shutting off unless something is being triggered to shut down the Mac before any damage occurs. It's also possible that instead of a break in the wire, the insulation is damaged so that in that position there is a short of some sort. But I suspect there is some sort of mechanical damage to the cable. I don't know if it can be repaired or will have to be replaced.
    Good luck!

  • Connectors for keyboard and fingerprint onto the motherboard

    I have a dv7-4170us
I recently had a problem with the bracket that allows the lid to open and close, so I took apart the laptop to see if I could fix it.  In the process, i had to basically take apart the entire computer.  I took off the keyboard and the top panel, but in the process of taking off the front panel and keyboard, I had to disconnect a few things from the motherboard.  The connector is a black piece that twists upward to allow the ribbon-style cable to release.  The black piece was very difficult to twist upward, and two of the four that I had to remove ended up breaking.  The black pieces are no longer attached, so the cables are no longer secured.  I tried to tape them there in the right spot, but the fingerprint reader will not work at all, and half of the keyboard isn't working, so I can't do anything with the laptop.  I have no clue what to do here.  I don't know if there is a way to replace the black pieces, or if I'm just screwed.  Any help would be great
    Thanks,
    Joe

You can already plug your iPod dock connector into the extra USB port on a wired Apple thin keyboard, as long as the iMac is aluminum. I think Apple will let third parties do specialty lower volume products, like a keyboard with a built-in iPod dock.

  • Broken Plastic Bottom on Pavilion dv7 (images)

So, I have an HP Pavilion dv7 - 4285dx. The plastic shell on the bottom is broken, as the pictures show. I’m not sure what happened, as I’m very careful with my computer and have never dropped it, but my theory is that the heat (it gets scalding hot sometimes, even when just sitting on a table) from the fan in that corner warped the frame and caused the plastic to start snapping. There is now a small chunk missing, as is visible in the pictures, and there’s another small crack lower down the side.
My warranty expired in February, but it seems like this would be a faulty product kind of thing, so does anyone think that HP would do anything about it? Or does anyone have an idea as to what I could do about it? Would it be possible to buy just a new computer body that I could put my current hard drive in?

I  purchased my laptop about 3-4 years ago.
A few years ago, my computer exhibited the same problem where it looked like the case was being pryed open.  I never really took it apart or did anything since I use it more like a desktop than anything else
Last night I took it apart and found the following:
The right side hinge and support structure is very robust.  The screen hinge attaches to the laptop base through a metal tab on the base (which has a screw insert on the bottom).  The force is distributed very well in this area.  On he left side, I saw that there was no metal support.  The screen metal hinge screws right into a brass looking insert which is just pressed into the plastic base.  On my laptop, the left side insert pulled right out of the plastic, and was basically prying up on both halves of the base, causing the gap when you close it.
When I was trying to rotate the hinges, I found that the left and right hinges took a TON of effort to rotate.  in the closing direction: If the insert is OK, there should be no problems since the hinge is "pushing" itself into the plastic base.  But when you open the laptop, that screw insert wants to be pulled out.  in doing so, it breaks the plastic and causes it to pry the case open, causing the gap.
I think this was an assembly error, not a design problem.  It looks like they intended the right side to bear 90% of the force, while the left side just acts as a pivot.  I think the left hinge stiffness was set way too high from the assembly line.  If you look carefully at the screen hinges, you can see a nut which is covered by the silver looking plastic hinge covers.  You need a 1/4" drive socket set and a 5.5 mm socket.  I was able to do it with a shalow socket, without an extension.
I ended up loosening this nut so you could easily turn it by hand.  Now all the force is taken by the right-side robust hinge, where the left side just acts as a pivot.
I tried to use a metal epoxy in the area, but the stuff I had was too old and didn't bond well.  Hopefully I can find a junk computer and just get the replacement base.
To fix this, you can get a new bottom case for about $100, then loosen the nut on the left hinge so that there is minimal force going through that joint (you should be able to rotate the left hinge without he-man strength).
It also doesn't help that the left side hinge sees the highest temperatures.  The thermal cycling along with the pretty weak cooling system could make that joint more likely to break.
By the way I took it apart originally becuase my laptop temperatures were crazy high doing non-intensive tasks.  The cooling system was pretty bad.  it only takes a small build-up of dust to block off the exit for the hot air.  Be sure to clean this area if you notice that you can cook an egg on your laptop.

  • What is the maximum HDD size for Pavilion DV7-3105ea and can I add a 2nd HDD.

    Hi,
Please could someone advise me as to the maximum HDD size that can be installed in a Pavilion DV7-3105ea.
Additionally is it possible to add a second HDD.
    Thanks and kind regards,
    jB

There is no theoretical limit the only limit is what is sold on the market. Any correctly sized SATA laptop drive will work. They do now make 1TB drives that will fit and yes there is a secondary hard drive bay so theoretically you could have 2TB of storage. You are going to need 1 or 2 drives like this:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152291
The drive has to be 9.5 mm in height some 1TB laptop drives are too thick.
You also likely need a second hard drive caddy/connector like this:
    http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=222&zenid=2a83d0d222d80c6...
And here is a link to the Manual showing how to get to the hard drive bay:
    Drive Manual
Check your system to see if a secondary drive caddy/connector is there but it likely is not and you need the part linked above. Good luck.
