Pavilion DV7 Quick Launch Buttons Problem

Dear all,
I have a new laptop Pavilion DV7. It comes with Vista Home Premium.
After updated to Vista SP2, the sound volume bar pop up on the screen ramdomly ( abnormal stepping up or down with click sound) ( I am not sure have it happen before update? Since, I do not check it detail before )
It happens at irregular time. It annoys me so much. Because it is my new laptop which taken on last Firday (23/10) and find the problem on Saturaday(24/10).
I have contact with HP technical center. However, it just on holiday and re-open on the coming Tuesday.
I am so unhappy and no more to use right now.
Besides, there are also no respond when I touched another Quick launch buttons.
Anyone can help ?
Thanks
tlee

Hello all,
I would like to report my updated news.
Since, HP service center did not give me call until the second day after I left my DV7 there.
Therefore, I phone to them actively.  One guy reply me that they accepted my new dv7 has hardware problem. They will arrange to replace a new one to me (since, my notebook is suffer problem within 7 days after purchased).
However, the guy has not replied me when I can take the new one. She just told me to wait.
I'm afraid HP guy told a lie again............. As for my previous post content about my experience ( pointing out wrong decision to choose HP product), HP people is not honest.
I think it is the HP mission right now : (   and the executives of HP seem to turn a blind eye.
Besides, I am still monitoring another threads of this HP forum. And find that the HP product tends to worse. It is not only hardware issue, but also the software driver issue.
And the interesting thing when I talked with HP technical center people. He already told me their drivers are no problem. He aways said it is Microsoft problem and want to misleading me go to contact Microsoft.
Alternative, you may find HP's competitor is willing to enhance their product compatibility with Microsoft Windows to become more reliable.

PLEASE !!!, HP people who is looking this fourm. I beg yours kindly help to inform the relative HP top management to know that ours issues. And follow up our cases.
Thanks alot !

  • HP Pavilion dv7-3080us Quick Launch Buttons Fail

    Hi,

Is there anyway to fix it without taking it back to HP?
    Thanks for now!

  • Faulty Quick Launch Buttons on my Pavilion dv9854ca notebook...

I recently had to reformat my laptop after the hard disk failed to boot properly, and I had to reinstall Windows, and all the drivers and software I used before.  I installed the HP Quick Launch Buttons driver, and so far all of them (Play/Pause, Stop, Volume etc...I didn't install Quickplay because I don't need it) have been working properly except for the "mute" button, something I just noticed.  Every time I tap it, it will toggle to the other setting for a millisecond then switch back to what it was before, i.e. if there is sound, and I want to mute sound, I tap the button, and it will flash orange (signalling mute) for a brief moment before going back to blue (signalling sound), and vice versa.  Before I reformatted, if I wanted to mute or unmute, I tapped it and it would toggle to the other setting without switching back.
Has anyone ever experienced this problem or know how to deal with it? It's nothing major but is a bit of a pain to have to click the windows volume settings...
    Thanks!

You need to install sound driver to fix the mute issue.

  • DV7-1279WM microphone and quick launch buttons stopped working

For some reason my quick launch buttons and microphone have stopped working on my DV7 laptop. I know that I recently used the microphone on a Skype call, but believe since that time that Vista SP2 was installed. I am not sure when the quick launch buttons were not working, but have just literally (talking less than a week ago) got the laptop back from HP for a warranty issue with the display. A strange thing I noticed is that if i look under the settings in Skype, the microphone will record a level for a split second, but then go back to nothing again (someone I was trying to talk to said they could hear me for a second).
I thought it might be the same problems as in the 35 page thread on here, but I have sound, its only the microphone and quick launch buttons that are not working. So far I have rolled back, installed and updated sound drivers, BIOS and Quick Launch software, but no luck.
    Any suggestions? Thanks.

Sometimes electrical components needs to have all power sources removed and reintroduced to work properly.  Try performing a hard reset first, if it doesn't work then we'll move to the next step.
    To Perform A Hard Reset
Shut down the computer by going to the Start menu and selecting shut down. (If you have no display, hold the power button down for  5 seconds)
Disconnect the AC Adapter from the notebook.
Remove the battery from the bottom of the notebook.  There will be a switch/button to eject the battery.
Wait at least 1 minute with all power sources disconnected.
Re-insert the battery and reconnect the AC Adapter and then attempt to power on the notebook.

  • Quick Launch Buttons not working on dv7-3085dx

    Hello HP world.
I am having a problem that I cant fix it myself and it is driving me crazy.
I am very techy and usually always find a solution to any problem but this one got both of my feet locked.
My Quick Launch Buttons on my DV7-3085dx  Running Win7 64-bit.
Are not working. They were working fine since forever until 2 weeks ago I noticed the mute and wireless buttons remained red non stop? and they were not functionable. Almost as if they lost connection to the notebook.
This is what i have tried so far:
    - Hard reset (after i did this the red mute button and wireless went off, now only volume and media controls are on, still useless)
    - Updating the QuickLaunch Buttons Driver
    - Updating the BIOS
    - Reinstalling MediaSmart
    - New Chipset Driver
    - Installing latest IDT driver
    - probably other drivers and such which i cant remember but its been over a week that i have been reading online and it came down to this.
    I surrender!
    Please help me.
    Thank you in advance.

The buttons are still not functioning. I just get the audio and player controls lid up but thats it.
They dont work and are useless.
    HELP
If they're not working after performing the System Recovery then it's a hardware problem.  Could a loose or damaged cable or circuit board.

when i installed windows 8 in my hp pavilion dv3z notebook pc, the quick launch button of volume is always red and the sound is mute....the driver for quick launch buttons and driver for sound is also up to date....can you please help me?

When installing the audio driver, was it installed by following the prompts or in compatibility mode as outlined here?
Based on the Software and Drivers page for this unit, the unit was not tested and certified for Windows 8.  This means that some functionality may not be the same since the unit was not designed for Windows 8.  See this site for information and to find out if it has been tested for Windows 8.
If the sound driver has not been installed in compatibility mode, then I recommend using the Windows 7 64bit driver found here and using the linked steps above to install it in compatibility mode.
    Let me know what happens.

  • Dv7-1130us - Quick Launch buttons not working - though they light up correctly

I'm trying to enable wifi, though the quick launch buttons are no longer working. They used to work, though I've had my laptop repaired at the service center (to replace the keyboard), and I also immediately upgraded to windows 7 once my laptop was returned.
I've done a hard reset, upgraded the bios, and upgraded the quick launch button drivers, though nothing is working. When windows boots, the wifi image on the quick launch bar transitions correctly as it has always done (blue to orange - since I had I usually had it disabled before I sent it in for repair and upgraded).
Is there a way I can enable the wifi card without having to use the quick launch buttons? The wifi card has always functioned correctly when it was enabled, and it's working properly according to the device manager. I just need to either find a way to enable it without using the quick action bar, or get the quick action bar working.
Any suggestions? I'd rather not send it back in for repair, it's a lengthy process.

  • Volume and Media Quick launch buttons not working Pavilion DV4 1100EA

    Hi,
I recently had to replace my hard disk and reinstall windows 7 (32bit) from scratch. I have loaded HP Quick launch driver V6.50.12.1 (2009-12-09, latetest on website) but have the following issues:
Media Quick Launch button does nothing (despite media programs been installed)
Volume slider button does not provide the previous clicking and volume bar on the screen when being used. (I have checked that the sound is enabled in the Bios).
I have uninstalled the Driver and reinstalled it several times, but it does not fix the issue.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi,
QuickPlay will not work under Windows 7 ( it was the option for Vista ) and was replaced by the MediaSmart software option.
If the media button you refer to has a Q rather than an M, there is an alteration you can make to the registry that will allow you to launch SmartMenu from this button.
    The key is located at:
    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hewlett-Packard\HP Quick Launch Buttons
    Modify the path for:
    QAction
    To:
    C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP MediaSmart\SmartMenu.exe

  • ITunes and hp quick launch buttons

I have Windows XP and iTunes 7 on a HP Pavilion Media Center dv6278ea computer.
When iTunes is the active window, the quick launch buttons work, but not when it is minimized to tray or behind another window.
Is there a way to make it work like Windows Media Player?

    Hello @luvpatch,
I understand that you are not able to use the HP Quick Launch buttons after upgrading to Windows 8.1, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
The first step I recommend is to completely remove HP Quick Launch from your system by using this Microsoft Fixit tool: Fix problems that programs cannot be installed or uninstalled. Once the program is removed, please restart your computer.
To further diagnose Internet Explorer on your system, I recommend following Resolving issues in Internet Explorer (Windows 8), as well as Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet (Windows 8). This should help to re-establish a consistent connection between your notebook and wireless network.
If the issue continues, I recommend performing a backup and refresh back to when Windows 8 was still installed on your system. To do this, I recommend following this resource on Backing Up Your Files (Windows 8), as well as Refresh Your PC to Resolve Problems (Windows 8).
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your reply!

  • Windows 7 RTM drivers for sound control buttons and quick launch buttons on TX2

In the past two days this forum has helped me find several drivers for the TX2-1027CA tablet. Now I'd like to try to get two more - and I expect this will be more difficult to find, but here goes....
Is there a driver for the sound buttons (sound down, sound up, and mute) on the body of the tablet? Currently, with no driver, it has no effect to push them.
Is there a driver for the quick launch buttons (mediasmart, screen orientation, and so on) on the screen of the tablet? Pushing these also has no effect. Even better would be drivers that allow me to assign my own program choices, but I'll settle for the basic original functions.
Looking forward to any links as this software appears!

Hi Daniel. You seem to know what you're talking about, so perhaps you can help me.  I bought my Pavilion dv7-1260us a mere 5 weeks before HP began offering its Windows 7 upgrade offer. Consequently, I had to purchase a retail version to upgrade. Now, I cannot reinstall the original programs and features my laptop came with (specifically, the MediaSmart soft-touch button above my keyboard will not work, and I've lost the Cyberlink DVD Suite 6 program entirely).
Do you happen to know how I may reinstall the Cyberlink DVD Suite 6 program and get my MediaSmart soft-touch key to work again? No one at HP Customer Care (including their Case Managers) can help. When I contacted Cyberlink, they told me I had to contact HP (vicious circle there), OR I have to purchase the program ($120 I don't have).  I bought my laptop for school, and had to upgrade to Windows 7 because Vista Home Premium kept crashing (usually right in the middle of an online exam).
I would really like to have ALL of the programs and features working properly, but HP Customer Care will not help me unless I revert back to the unstable Vista Home Premium.
I greatly appreciate your assistance and hope you have a solution for me.
    Sincerely,
    Michael Walker

  • Re-installing quick launch button functionality on DV8T

Is there a particular set of installs which recovers all of the functionality of the HP Quick Launch buttons?
    Here's the deal:
On a Pavilion DV8T-1000 CTO laptop, I've added a second hard drive, an SSD, which is in the primary bay.  The original drive is in the secondary bay.  Since the HP recovery media would not recover to the new SSD (slightly smaller than the original drive, so the recovery software gets pissy about it), I installed Win7 Pro from scratch, and loaded all the current drivers from the support page for this particular model laptop.
Most of the system functionality was returned, but I found that the quick launch buttons weren't behaving as I expected.  The wireless indicator didn't show blue (at all) when wifi is on, but did turn orange when it is off.  The mute button was always white, even when the computer is muted.  The volume didn't show the on-screen volume display.  The tone control would only show a goofed-up version of the on-screen display (bar area with random vertical lines which moved when I used the tone control slider).  The DVD eject button didn't work, and neither did the DVD play buttons.
Now note: I did do a quick launch button firmware update during this whole  upgrade process.  At first, I thought that might be the problem.  Then I put the original drive back as the boot drive, and found that most of the original functionality was still there (except for the wifi light still isn't turning blue when wifi is on... is only off).
I put the SSD back as the boot drive again, and started looking for things I might have missed.  I had the tone control software installed, and the quick launch button driver software.  Apparently that wasn't enough.  I found the SmartMenu software and installed it, and then I had the on-screen display working for mute, volume, and tone control... but the mute button is still always white (never goes orange when the system is muted).  And there is still no DVD transport or eject control.
Since this works with the original drive, this shows that this is not a hardware issue (otherwise, it wouldn't work for either drive).  It is obviously a driver/software/configuration problem.  But there doesn't seem to be one program or driver install which provides all the needed/wanted/desired function... not even two or three installs.  (and I still don't know why the wi-fi button isn't turning blue like it did before I did the firmware upgrade... which, unfortunately, I can't undo as older firmware versions aren't available to download).
How does somebody get all the original quick launch button (the capacitive button bar above the keyboard) back?

Have you tried installing the Quick Launch button software from the following weblink:
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp48001-48500/sp48159.exe
    I am an HP employee.
