Pavilion dv8, will motherboard keep up with SATIII SSD

I have a Pavilion dv8 with Crucial M4 SSD SATII - R/W 230MB/s 175MB/s (128Gb). doing really well.
SATII Interface bandwith spec 300Mb/s
I'm considering a SATIII SSD -  500MB/s 260MB/s (256GB) for the 2nd bay.
SATIII interface bandwidth spec 600Mb/s
Will the motherboard keep up with this- what is the theoretical speed from the board R/W?
Am I already at the upper speed for the dv8?
Thanks

Hi,
No, SATA III is backward compatible but it only run at the SATA II controller speed. In short: you can install SATA III on your machine but won't gain any speed advantage (SSD'a have  some technologies/imrpovements and that's another story).
Hope this helps.

  • Pavilion dv8 1190eo - exchange primary hd with ssd

    Hey,
I just bought the new Pavilion dv8-1190eo. Works just fine. However, I would like to have a solid state disk instead of 1 of the original seagate 7200rpm 500gb disks.
I have bought an SSD intel x25-M sata 160gb.
The thing is: when i connect the SSD via USB it works fine. If i exchange the primary hd that came with computer with the SSD not even the BIOS start properly and system freezes.
What I've done is to create images of each of the 4 partions on the primary original harddisk and apply theese to the new SSD. Still nothing works and I cant start the comp @ all.
Both the SSD and the original harddisk coming with computer use same SATA interface.
It troubles me I cannot even boot from CD when I plug the SSD into the computer instead of the original primary hd. So its not possible for me to even use recovery disks to recreate factory img on new hd.
Anyone got any bright ideas? :-)
    Best Regards,
    Daniel

    Hi Daniel,
I just posted about a similar experience with my dv7-2180us.  Installed an OCZ Vertex LE last night, got a solid three hours of installing 'stuff' completed, and this morning it won't get past POST.
Do you know what BIOS version you are on?  I flashed from 0.33 (which i believe was what came on it) to 0.41 last night to try to eek a bit more performance out of it (it seemed to work).
System still works great on OEM drive.

  • Will iMovie Keep Up with New Camcorder Technology?

I've been looking at camcorders recently since my Canon ZR60 broke on me due to a failed tape transport.
There seems to be a lot of camcorders with either DVD or hard drive storage instead of using tape. The HD camcorders are recording using Mpeg and AVCHD which iMovie doesn't work with currently.
I guess we can only speculate Apple will out with a new version of iMovie/iDVD in January.

"..The HD camcorders are recording using Mpeg and AVCHD which iMovie doesn't work with currently.."
Sony HDV - tape-based - camcorders (and JVC ones, too, but I'd stick with Sony) are supported by (..i.e; can be used with..) iMovie HD. In fact iMovie HD was introduced at the MacWorld show the other year by a Sony-wielding Steve Jobs and a Sony man.
HDV Mpeg works fine with iMovie HD, as long as you have a fast Mac (..G5, preferably multi-processor, or Intel-based..) and can be used to make terrific HD projects. If you use Apple's DVD Studio Pro, the HD footage from iMovie can be burned onto a normal data DVD as hi-res HD video footage and can be played on your Mac as HD video (..but those discs won't play as HD on any kind of standalone DVD Player).
You can also export edited HD footage from iMovie HD back to a tape in an HDV camcorder, plug the camcorder into a component socket on an HDTV, and watch glorious HD footage which has been edited in iMovie HD.

  • Iphoto 9.5.1 will not import videos with .mpg extension from my pictures folder and keep getting a OSStatus error-54. Is there a way I can import such videos to the iphone library?

iphoto 9.5.1 will not import videos with .mpg extension from my pictures folder and keep getting a OSStatus error-54. Is there a way I can import such videos to the iphone library? Pls help.

This is what that error means:
    -54
    permErr
Software lock on file; Not a subscriber [permissions error on file open]
Download and launch  BatChmod.  Put the videos into a subfolder and drag that folder containing the video files into the Batchmod window.  Make sure you are the owner and have R,W, X access as well as the group.  Everyone will have R only.
Check the Change ownership and privileges, Unlock and Apply to enclosed boxes and then click on the Apply button.  When done try importing the files again.

  • Will this laptop/tablet keep up with photoshop?

    I may buy a lenovo x201 tablet. 8g ram 2.13-GHz Intel Core i7-640LM
I currently use a macbook pro which works well. But I would love to have this tablet to do any line art and things like that.
My worry is I do not want the programs to lag or crash. I just want to make sure my machine can keep up with these powerful programs.
Also If I do get this  I will use it solely for photoshop and illustrator. No other programs (besides maybe google chrome.)
    Will they run properly?
    Thanks!

That machine will handle your Photoshop stuff just fine, but it's not what you want for fast turnover in FCP.

  • If I upgrade to Lion will I keep my current bootcamp with XP installed?

If I upgrade to Lion will I keep my current bootcamp with XP installed working?

OS X Lion: "Some features of Mac OS X Lion are not supported for the disk (volume name)" appears during installation
Normally, and if you didn't change the number or resize the partitions, should be fine.
I don't think anyone can guarantee anything, which is why backups are essential.
You can even install Lion to an external drive as well.
For Mac, you can clone your system and have a bootable backup; use TimeMachine.
For Windows, there are various tools to backup data or partitions.

  • I have a classic iPod with songs that were put on it from a different computer. If I plug it up to my computer, will it keep the songs that were originally on it from the previous computer AND allow me to put new songs on it from my computer?

I have a classic iPod with songs that were put on it from a different computer. If I plug it up to my computer, will it keep the songs that were originally on it from the previous computer AND allow me to put new songs on it from my computer?

No.  Your iPod is designed to sync with one computer/iTunes library at a time. If you try to sync it with a new computer/iTunes library, the contents currently on the iPod will be erased and replaced with content from the new library.  So you'll want to copy what is currently on the iPod over to your new iTunes library first before syncing it.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • TS3992 My iphone will not back up with iCloud. it keeps popping up a push notification telling me that i do not have enough storage available for the back up. but in my settings and storage it tells me i have 2.8 GB of 5 GB free space, help!?

My iphone 4s will not back up with iCloud. it tells me i dont have enough iCloud storage available, that i can manage my storage in my settings, when i click the settings it tells me i have 2.8 GB free space out of 5 GB. i dont know what to do about this problem. it hasnt been backed up in 3 weeks. and if i still have icloud space avaliable on my phone i do not need to purchase more. i have very few aps backed up on my icloud. i do not understand this help me please

Go to Settings>General>Usage and see how much space is available on your phone (listed at the very top).  The pop-up might be telling you that you don't have enough space on your phone to perform the backup, not that you don't have enough space in your iCloud acount to store the backup.

  • Quicktime 7 will not install fully on my windows 7 64 home premium keeps stoping with an error while trying to create directory

    I have a Laptop with Windows 7 64 Home premium, I have tried a few times to install Quicktime 7 on my laptop. But keeps stopping with an error saying "An error occured while attemping to create the directory: C:\windows\Installer\{F5266D28-E0B2-4130-BFC5-EE1-55AD514DC}
Windows is fully up todate, I have no virus or anything harmful on my computer. After clicking retry the error keeps popping up. I then click on cancel and delete the downloaded quicktime installer. I shut down my computer and try again. Same error with not luck. Any help?

Just in case, let's check for disk/file damage.
The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • Pavilion dv6 will not boot up.

When I start my Pavilion dv6, the fan starts, the on key light on, light on f12 key and on caps lock key.
    Screen remains blank.
Have tried taking out battery, and unplugging. Wait and power again. Same thing keeps happening.
    HELP please.

    Hi Thesaloniki,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook and getting a blank or black screen on startup. Try performing a hard reset. When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices, and remove memory cards from the card reader slot. Disconnect all non-essential devices. If that does not help try to turn on the computer you start to press F2 repeatedly till the menu opens. You can do a diagnostic test.
I would be happy to assist if needed as there are many models of Pavilion dv6's could you respond with the mode.. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Please respond with which Operating System you are running:
Which Windows Operating System am I running?

  • Pavilion dv8 cannot play cd or dvd

I have a Pavilion DV8 ( Model NQ226AV) laptop with a cd/dvd/bluray drive ( BD MLT UJ240) that cannot read any media. It spins and spins and does nothing.  I disabled the drivers and reboot and windows reenabled the drivers. I tried to read the disk from command line and shows no media.  Help

Try booting from it using a bootable disk like a Windows install disk or your recovery media. This will isolate whether it is hardware (no boot) or a software/Windows problem. You might also try a laser cleaner disk you can buy at any electronics store. If it will not boot and cleaning does not good it will be necessary to replace the drive. Are you  under warranty? If so, obviously HP will replace it and if not figure the drive would cost around $100 on the internet and is very easy to repace.

    Hi Jean-Marie,
Based on the fact that you seem to be having issues with your webcam, you've mentioned usb problems, and your showing me screen shots of your registry with ghost keys ( which is not your device manager). I would recommend doing a full system recovery.
Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7) - this document will guide you through the process of doing the recovery, as well as how to back up your files.
Please let me know how this goes.
    Thanks for your reply.
