Pavilion DV8T stuck on disk 2 during recovery

Hey everybody,
I purchased the computer two years ago, when I tried to make recovery disks I got an error and was told from HP I needed a new set of DVDs which I wasted around 40 to 50 dollars anyways short story told, HP said they were going to send me recovery disks and I didn't receive anything.
2 years later the OS wouldn't load due to a corrupted file, I paid for the recovery disks, it loads disk 1 and when prompted to install disk 2 it just hangs. I've tried around 5 to 8 times in the last couple weeks with no success.
I also deleted all partitions, did a low level format, and tried again with no success, I tried to partition the drive with fat 32 and ntsf with no success, also tried to wipe the hard drive again and used the cyberplayer DVD disk HP recommends to use for wiped hard drives but also didn't work. HDD and memory tests passed
I spoke with HP and they answer was to send me another set of recovery disks which I know it will be useless since the first time I received 2 sets and both of them failed.
I was able to install my own version of windows 7 but half of the drivers don't work and HP doesn't even bitter to post the correct drivers/software on their support web page.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I recently upgraded my dv8t to Windows 8 Pro (using the built-in disc drive). It installed fine and had no errors with installation. After using Windows 8, I decided to try to use my recovery partition (which I verified is still on the disk drive) but F11 failed. Given I spent close to $1900 on this dv8t entertainment notebook, I figured I would pay the $12 to order this recovery set, directly from HP.
Yesterday I received the CD set. The CDs arrived in prestine condition, no scratches or cracks of any kind on the set. So I turned on my notebook, and it booted into Windows 8. I then inserted Disc 1 of the set into the drive, and then rebooted from the sign-in screen.
Disc 1 (Volume label: BOOT) was detected and proceeded to launch. First, it wiped my hard disk and then it copied the files. I verified it was reading because I can feel the drive spinning along with the LED light flashing as it read the disc.
Next, it requested Disc 2 (Volume label: DISC1). I then inserted disc 2 and confirmed that the optical drive detected the disc as the drive spun and the LED light was visable. I verified this by observing the HDD & optical drive LEDs which never illuminated after that. I waited for nearly 45 minutes after that and there was no activity from the system. I even ejected & re-inserted the media to see it the drive would detect the disc upon auto-run.
I performed some research online and found this forumn which confirms everything I have experienced. I believe the user in this forumn who received multiple replacement sets by mail and experienced the issue repeatedly.
Though my notebook is out of warranty (1-year warranty), I decided to call HP support and inform them of the issues with the disc media I received. After being on hold, I spoke to a "technician", one of those outsourced customer service representatives from India that actually call themselves "technicians". So I explained the issue with the discs, known issue as it's reported in this forumn, my troubleshooting (I'm a helpdesk technician myself), and my results. The technician kept saying I would have to purchase a support plan for support as it may be a issue with my hard drive or optical drive... I asked him "if it was an issue with the hard drive, how did Windows 8 launch every time prior using your recovery set?" He then said it was my optical drive. I asked him "if it was an issue with my optical drive, how did it read disc 1?" Unable to answer my questions he tried to sell me a support plan. I asked several times to speak to a more qualified technician. He would tell me "let me check with my resources" and then put me on a brief hold. Unable to allow me to talk to anyone, I asked for a refund on the faulty authored recovery media. He then said he was going to transfer me to the correct department, and then guess what... he hung up on me.
***Note to HP - I believe that the recovery media set needs to personally be evaluated and tested by HP as I do not believe end users are using defective or scratched media for this recovery disc set. I believe the issue to be either a programming error on either Disc 1, or maybe even Disc 2's volume label being named DISC1.
For your convenience, I am listing the HP part numbers for the faulty authored media set which should be tested on a dv8t-1000 notebook. If you need a product number for the notebook it is: NQ226AV
Media set part numbers:
HP PART#: 588725-001
HP PART#: 592889-B22
HP PART#: 588725-001-CD1
Individual disc part numbers:
Disk 1 of 2 - 588726-001
Disk 2 of 2 - 588727-001
Please look into this and e-mail me. If you fail to respond with a resolution to this post, then I am buying Sony or other brands moving forward. I encourage anyone else who reads this thread the same.
Best regards,
HP Customer

  • IPOD classic stuck on disk mode/recovery mode

    Hello
I got a new Ipod classic for Christmas and when I hooked it up to Itunes it started adding some songs then froze as I had this problem with my old Ipod I restored it and was ready to begin again, then it started saying it was corrupted and after searching ways to fix this problem online I tried for a while to restore as prompted and fix it but then it went onto disk mode and now it's locked on that mode and I can't get it out of that at all. I put my old Ipod on this morning to my Itunes and it worked fine and synced as normal so now I know it's the Ipod. I've no idea how to fix this problem myself or why it started, I'm normally able to fix most of my technology stuff myself and all morning this has been stressing me out. I'm not sure where to send it for repair or how much it will cost at all, appreciate any help at all.

I have the same problem. Have you figured out how to fix it? I'm going to my Apple store this afternoon to see if they can fix it. Thanks.

  • HP Envy dv6 7398ca. win 8 64 bit. During recovery disk 4, get 3f0 error

    Hi,
I have a brand new HP Envy dv6 7398ca.win 8 64 bit.  I had a problem that caused me to do a system refresh. After that, Windows update and MS Office would not update/install. Talked to Tech Support, they wanted me to go thru every service and started task to see if one was corrupt (requires reboots and update and recovery from win Update). Anyway, decided to do a system recovery/system reset. I had recovery disks and files backed up, so thought I should be fine.
During Recovery (from Win 8, recovery manager) when disk 4 was inserted, it gets to 56% and then stops with the 'dest drive not connected' msg. The system hangs and have to power off. Tried a couple times, then went to sys reset.  got to disk 4 again and then 3F0 msg with 'boot device not found, install os on hdd'. did quick check on hdd, all ok. Am running a full check now, but takes 5 hours(geesh, like back in the 80's again).
I can't believe the hdd is bad, because it goes through format, and 4 disks of loading files ok, and keeps stopping on the same spot.
Any ideas, before I finish waiting the 5 hours (1tb drive). Any ideas for after it finishes the test (I'm betting it's okay).
    Thanks so much!

    Hello socalfun64,
    You’re getting an error 3f0.
Here are steps that Big_Dave  wrote that might help with the problem.
The below solution may correct this problem:
Download UEFI Shell x64, rename the file to shellx64.efi, move it to FAT/FAT32-formatted USB-flash. Label the USB flash drive something that you will quickly recognize.
Insert the USB flash and then power up the HP UEFI enabled laptop and tap the ESC key to allow you to display the Start up menu.
    Select Boot device Options (F9)
    Select Boot from EFI file
Select the USB flash drive and hit enter
You should now see Shell.efi. Hit enter.
Ignore all the screen information that scrolls down on the screen
Once in the shell enter bcfg boot dump to see current boot manager entries. Option 00 should be the hard drive or SSD, option 01 the USB drive (UEFI) and option 02 the Internal CD/DVD Rom drive (UEFI)
This posted HP document will give you some ideas on how to remove, reorder and add the entries in the EFI boot manager. Review #3
If you’re not able to correct the problem, you may have to send the laptop in for repair.
Here is a link to a number to call HP and see what options they have to repair the laptop.
Let me know how everything goes
    Have a good day.

  • I am in mavericks disk utility recovery mode as my mac book will not boot up & stays only on the grey apple screen. When I verify the disk I get open error5 :input /output error on Syst stuck on 1 minute pouring out over 50 error messages & still counting

I am in Mavericks disk utility recovery mode as my mac book pro will not boot up & stays on the Apple grey screen . When I verify disk permissions I get
Open error 5:"input/ output error" on syst with over 50 of this messages & still counting . Disk Utility says 1 minute
But this has been going on for over 10 mins .
I can not verify disk or repair disk .
I have tried to reinstall mavericks operating system but it says my hard drive is locked which is very strange .
Does anyone know what is going on here ?
My system looks like it has been totally corrupted . Thanks Andrew

Could be. The "lock" isn't actually looking for a password.
WARNING: This will completely erase the ENTIRE hard drive.
What you would need to do is boot to recovery > disk utility > select the MAIN drive on the left side > partition > change partition layout from CURRENT to 1 PARTITION > ensure on the right side it says Format : Mac OSX Extended (Journaled) then push APPLY.
Then if it will allow us, close the windows until you see the 4 options popup again and select "Reinstall Mac OS X" select the Mac HD and you should be good to go!

  • Pavilion dv8t 1200 - simple pass/digital persona software won't install

    Howdy,
Windows 7 Home Premimum 64 bit
    Intel Core i7 Q720 @1.60GHz
    Pavilion dv8t - 1200 Notebook PC
The reader worked fine for the first few months/year, however it then only started working for signing in & occasionaly for sites & gTalk. I was cool with that...annoyed, but cool. Oh, it also didn't work to sign in if I had to sign in again after the screen saver came up or if the machine went into hybernate.
Today I decided to see if there was an update or if I could get it working for something other than signing in. After installing what was most likely the wrong package, I uninstalled it through the Program  Manager.
I then shut down the machine, ran CCleaner (there were digital persona errors removed...about 8) & went to install sp50048 which I believe is the correct one for my machine.
During the install it tells me the folder/files already exist, (even though I uninstalled it) & ithey do, then at the instal phase "Registering Modules" I receive the following error:
    Error 1722
    InstallDPPassFilter_x64.4D0EAAF1_2D33_4FFF_AA08_6...
And then in rolls it back.
I turned off the biometric devices in the control panel, ran CCleaner again, shut the machine down completely, tried installing again & had the same issue.
I turned the biometrics on in the control panel & recieve this message:
"Biometric devices are turned on, however I'm told “Windows did not find any biometric devices on this computer. You might need to attach your device or install device drivers.”
I have tried a few methods from 'solved' under both simple pass & digital persona
Thank you all for reading & attempting to help.

    Howdy,
Thank you for your advice, however it did not work out.
    Addressing each point in succession:
I can not get Digital Persona to install, therefore I can not interact with it hence none of the steps in the Setup and Use HP SimplePass Fingerprint Reader were available to moi.
Troubleshoot a Fingerprint Reader did not solve the issue, however I did go through the steps there so I shall describe my results in an effort to see if it helps home in on the problem.
All files used to update were pulled from the hp.com site using my Product Number.
Update the BIOS - BIOS was up to date
Enable Biometric Support (in BIOS) - Following the instructions it appears mine is always in the state: Enable
Check for Windows Support - Validity Sensor appears under Biometric Devices in the Device Manager
Update the Device Driver - (Had deleted the driver previously, so installed & updated) - Updated/Installed
Update the Access Manager - Attempted to install Digital Persona 5.1.0.175 A, but again during the install it gave me the same error (as my original post describes) & did not install.
As a final note, Windows does not see the reader in the Control Panel (large icons) Biometric devices even though it is turned on.
The reader worked fine before I tried to update it to a newer version & I still believe I installed an incorrect version of the Simple Pass software.

  • Error during recovery: can't find PREINST4.SWM on the DVD

    Hi everyone,
I was trying to reinstall the factory settings on my laptop with the toshiba software but during the copy of files from the first DVD of Recovery,
It says: Can't find PREINST4.SWM on the DVD.
So I look at the DVD with another computer and I find the file, so I don't know how to fix this problem, maybe reburn the DVD ? (there is no scratch on the DVD)
    Thanks
[sorry for the bad english speaking, it's not my native language]

Of course its worth to copy (burn) the DVD again but Im not quite sure if it will be helpful.
Probably something went wrong during Recovery disk creation.
In such case the DVD disk isnt created probably and the recovery procedure would not finish.
This would require new Recovery DVD which could be ordered from Arvato

  • HP Pavilion dv7 6031eo hard disk voodoo, making 2 physical disk appear as 1 physical disk

My HP Pavilion dv7 6031eo hard disk is failing.  88 Bad sectors.
I was planning to bring new hard disk. I decided to look under hood to see what kind of disk I would need.
Suprise suprise, I already had 2 hard disk in my HP Pavilion dv7 6031eo. Windows detects only 1 hard disk. It is detected as TOSHIBA MK1059GSM.
So 2 things are possible :-
HP performs the feature of a "spanned disk" at the mother board level and hides dual/double disks from the OS. It then presents to OS a single disk of 1TB as TOSHIBA MK1059GSM (not sure why TOSHIBA)
HP forgot the plug in the second hard disk during manufacturing
    Which one is it ?
Now the thing(s) is/are failing as per SMART values.
How am I suppose to replace the disk ?
Do I need to replace both of disks, even though only a single disk is failing as per OS ?
Will replacing the disks with any other disk work or the HP firmware will go nuts ?
Why don't you document these things ?

I would replace the hard drive. That is a 640 gig 5400 rpm drive and you can get a bigger faster drive for a reasonable price.

If the computer is still working well enough to boot into Windows you can do a complete system backup and recover all your data, settings, programs, etc onto the new drive or we can help you do a disk clone of the old drive to the new.
Since your laptop will actually hold two hard drives simultaneously you could even put the old drive in the secondary bay so you have a copy of all your old stuff right at hand.

Error 0x400 1100 20000 100A during Recovery.  How to fix??

    Hi,
Try booting with a utilty cd to remove partitions/ format hdd. Several posters here have had good results with Partition Wizard .Download the free Bootable CD iso here .Get ImgBurn here to burn the image to cd.
After deleting partitions and formatting hdd, try booting with Recovery Disks again.

  • During recovery installation it turned off

I recently baught a new laptop from a friend and therefore wanted to restore to factory settings. I inserted the disk and went through the setting and it began to restore. Half way through the process about 50% it turned off/overheated. It tells me to insert the start up disk, which I do not have, and now I do not know what to do because it will not start up without it.
What can I do and where can Iget a new one?
    Please answer at ([email protected])
    THANK YOU!!

    Hi
I think the solution for this problem is pretty easy. If the computer turned off during recovery installation you have to do this installation again I think because some files are missing, etc.
So boot from the recovery disk and try it again.
By the way: It would be interesting to know what notebook you have exactly. If it does overheat, try to clean it using compressed air spray. ;)

  • Stuck in Disk Utility...Please Help!

Tried to upgrade to Mavericks, failed, then made it worse by trying to clean and erase the drive without backing up. Long story short, bought macbook pro 13' from a reseller last summer, no issues, tried to upgrade a few weeks ago and failed now stuck on disk utility screen. Checked the serial number, not under warranty. Clicked on reinstall mountain lion, it said my apple id not affiliated with original purchase of software, so I bought it from the apple store on another computer. Can't download or open the zip drive since my plugins are blocked on my macbook pro in disk utility. Can it be fixed? Do I have to take it to the apple store to fix and if so any idea on how much it would cost to fix?

If it is a 2009 it will not do the command option R boot, it is not equipped to do Internet recovery.
Try the command R boot, that will try to boot off the recovery partition on the local disk.
If that fails you will need to get the original OS DVD that shipped with that system. If you do not have them and you can;t reach the seller you will need to contact Apple. They ill be able to supply the disk for a nominal charge
In any case, even if you can get the system running now,  you should get the original DVD and do a clean install. Right now you are running on a machine, that while you own it, looks to  Apple like it still belongs to the seller.

  • TS1441 Ipod classic stuck in disk mode

My ipod classic is stuck in disk mode, computer/itunes won't recognize, i've tried resetting, but either says "ok to disconnect" or "restore with itunes."  When i plug it in, the computer nor itunes recognize that it's plugged in.... please help.

The best way to get out of this situation is to use a well-known tool called TinyUmbrella.
First of all download TinyUmbrella  http://thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.in/
Now, making sure your device is connected to your computer, launch TinyUmbrella
It will automatically detect that your iPod is stuck in recovery mode
Select the Exit Recovery button and it should throw your iPod touch out of recovery.
Alternatively, you can right-click on your iPod name from a list at the side
of TinyUmbrella and select Kick out of recovery.

  • Ipod Classic 5th Gen stuck in Disk Mode

My iPod has been stuck in disk mode for ever since it Click of Death face. I have replaced the HDD and i out it in Disk Mode, Itunes picks it up but when restoring theres an error. How can i get this fixed. i plan to take it to an Apple Store but that means traveling. Any help would be great!!

Okay ... rather than doing a full format, let's instead see if we can do a disk check, and see if that gets the ipod to the point where a restore will "take" properly on the iPod.
There's vista instructions in the following document. Check both "Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors":
[Check your hard disk for errors|http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Check-your-hard-disk-fo r-errors]
After the check disk, can you successfully restore the iPod?
