Pavilion G6 2090ca service door

I'm having trouble opening the service door on the bottom of my laptop. The single screw that seems to be holding it in is spring loaded and won't come off. I've loosened it as much as possible and the panel won't come off. I believe that there are tabs holding it in. Is there any way to tack this panel off? Also, please don't give me the link to the G6 maintenance manual as that doesn't apply to this model of laptop.
thanks

Hey,legtho.
They only option for you to access anything underneath the service door is to take the screw out. If you can't. You will need to take the notebook to best buy or some local repair shop for them to take it out.

I'm trying to remove the service door to upgrade memory.  There is a video at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02062583&tmp_task=useCategory&cc=au&dlc=en&lang... but my notebook doesn't have the two tabs at the rear of the battery bay illustrated in the video.  I've tried sliding the battery/service door release (see below) but it doesn't seem to make any difference.
Does anyone have any hints on how to release the cover?

  • G6-1c58dx Service Door

I recently purchased RAM to upgrade my g6-1c58dx. When I tried to install it, I was unable to open the service door on the back of the laptop. I unscrewed the two screws, but still cannot get the door to budge. Anyone have the same issue/know how to open this door?

Try removing the battery first (it's important to anyway to prevent static discharge). Then you will have clear leaverage to just pull the door up with your thumbs.

  • Pavilion 15 Upgrades

Hi, I have a Pavilion 15-n005sx notebook PC.
    The specs are:
    Intel core i5-4005u
    4GB DDR3-PC1600 SDRAM with Windows 8.1 64-Bit
    500GB HDD 5200RPM
I want to upgrade my motherboard to ASUS Saberbooth Z87 (Intel Z87) so that I could also upgrade to i5-4690.
I also want to upgrade my ram to 8GB DDR3 and my HDD to 2TB 7500RPM SATA. With all this, is it possible?
    Thank you!

The memory upgrade; yes. The rest no. You cannot put any different brand motherboard in there. Laptop motherboards are part of the overall design of the machine and there is no optional industry standard motherboard. You can only use an HP motherboard. On the hard drive I believe they do now make 2 TB laptop sized drives but they are all 5400 rpm, not 7200. I think you have to drop down to 1 TB to have a 7200 rpm spin speed.
    This is your Manual:
    Service Manual
You have a Service Door to access the RAM but access to the hard drive requires removal of the top cover. The motherboards have the processor soldered on. An i7-4500U is an available processor/motherboard combination but the cost of replacement motherboards with processor is extremely high.

Yes. Your notebook does use a SATA hard disk, so you can upgrade it to an SSD disk.

  • Pavilion dv6-3000 6G memory is recognized as 4G

The computer I am using is actually a notebook that has 6GB memory, however the bios can only see 4GB, how should I do ?

OK,so you will need to find out if the issue is with the Memory module or the Slot...
To do that, you will need to open the bottom service door/panel and reseat the 2GB Memory Module and check, if the memory gets picked by they system that great!
Else you will need to swap the memory module around i.e 2GB in place of 4GB and vice versa...that will tell you if the issue is with Memory module or Slot itself...

  • CD cover popped off and I need to put it back on

Does anyone have a how-to for this? The plastic cover of the CD drive popped off of a machine I just got from another work site and I would like to try to put it back on. I tried the obvious, but it didn't work. Ideas?
    TIA,
    Karen

You made me laugh with you. I added RAM to my wife's very nice eMac 1.42G and, in the process of upending it to get to the RAM service door, I knocked the outside cover all wonky and couldn't get it back on straight. A few minutes later, my 24-year old son dropped in for a quick visit, immediately saw the problem and fixed it.

  • Mac G4 Won't Boot Completely After Restart

I fired up my Mac G4 and ran software update and installed the 10.4.11 update. When I restarted to complete the install the computer gets hung up -- a blue screen with the gear icon turning and turning. It worked fine before I did the update.
I've reset the PRAM to no avail. I've tried booting from the 10.4 install disc but that won'w work either?
Any ideas on how to get this working again?
    Thanks!

Open the service door and press the PMU reset button from about a second, then see if the computer starts. (Ref: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1939)
You can try a safe boot. Press and hold the SHIFT key until you see a message that the computer is starting in safe mode. When you see that message, t=you can let go of the key.
If this gets you a workable desktop, don't try to use any apps--their extensions are temporarily disabled. Try a normal restart to see if everything works.
I've found that by repairing permissions before and after doing a softare update, we've avoided update problems in all our OSX Macs.

  • HP Envy 17t-j000 Quad Edition.

    Hi all,
Recently purchased above system with 16GB RAM which left no option for installing an mSATA drive given the options.  I'm reasonably certain (according to other websites that talk about this laptop) that I can install an mSATA drive.  However, I also wanted to include a second HDD and found the hardware kit necessary to do it, popped the HDD enclosure cover open only to find that there's already something in (what appears to be) the mSATA slot.  The device in the slot has a sticker on it that would make one believe that it's a wireless network adapter.
My question is... is the mSATA slot in the same bay as the HDDs or is it somewhere else.  If it is in the same bay, what could be in the mSATA slot other than an mSATA drive?
Thanks in advance for your time and expertise!

I have the same basic model computer in my possession. The mini-pcie slot you see indeed has the wifi adapter. It is not for an mSATA drive. The mSATA port is not accessible through the service door. It is under the system board and the system board has to be removed to access it. The best advice if you want to enhance the speed is to do as suggested and install a 2.5 inch SATA SSD in the main bay and put the original mechanical drive in the second bay. If you are determined to get at the mSATA slot, here is the Service Manual:

This Manual does not even show the mSATA port but it is under the motherboard.

  • Mini 210-1010nr netbook

I bought the netbook for my 13 year old son just three months ago.  Tonight he brought it into me saying it wouldn't load, so I took a look at it.  It will boot into HP quickstart but that's all.  At windows boot I get the message that a disk read error occured.  I went into the bios and ran the diagnostic utility on the hd and it says to replace the hd.  What gives?  This computer is only 3 months old!
I am in the Army and presently stationed in South Korea, so I can already imagine how much of a hastle this is going to be.
So what is my next course of action?

My apologies, I missed that sentence when reading through his post. Guess I've got a delayed case of the Mondays... . Yes, I realize he is in Korea, but not too much "guerilla" work can be done. I'd still recommend contacting support, in case a replacement drive can be sent out to him, perhaps they can walk him through swapping it as well.
aidenCole, your unit has a feature called a service door, which makes accessing the hard drive a little easier than on other platforms. Take a look at this video:

  • Add SSD drive

    Hi,
I recently purchased a Hp Envy J171 and would like to add an SSD drive to make it faster. So my question is does anyone know which SSD drive out there that work best for my laptop ? and how do I install the new SSD drive ?
    Thanks

Can we have your full model? There is a 15-J171nr and sa and they are not the same. It is important to know if you have the mSSD accelerator 24 gig drive. That will impact the instructions, but the best SSD drive to get is a Samsung 840 Evo. Your budget is going to determine the size but even a 512 gig is pretty affordable, compared to not too long ago.  Here is the Manual:

See page 42 for how to remove the service door and access the hard drive and possibly the mSATA.

  • Support, non support

Not a warm fuzzy feeling at all
Have a DV6 envy, still in warranty.
Wanted to replace hard drive with a SSD drive, in  the process, when I removed the service door (covers hard drive and memory)
one/two of the little plastic tabs broke off, which helps this door set properly and snug.
I then called in for a replacement, for it was not like I had pried the door off, and did not understand why they would break so easily.
I was then told it was not covered under warranty, which was a bit upsetting.
Told I would have to purchase this part, and so I went on line to do so.
This small plastic door is priced at 39.00 plus, and shown as in stock.  so not wanting to fight this with the service rep/agent, I ordered it and ended up being charged 55.00 and change, and waited.
In checking on the order, the in stock item, now had a delivery date, but showed as on back order.  When I called to cancel the order, and told that it would be, it was not (1st lie)  After a week, I called back, and also got a letter from Hector, who assured me the order was now cancelled, and a full refund was forth coming.  waited the 3 to 5 business days, with no refund.  Emailed Hector back, and was assured by Him that this would be done (again) and would happen in 3-5 day, and again no refund has shown.
This is very disheartening seeing how I was told one thing twice to see that HP's word holds not weight.
    Very disappointed in:
    1) a 5 dollar plastic part costing so much
    2) told one thing and another
    3) that HP or it’s reps  did not seem to care about customer satisfaction or customer experience
Support is very important to me, but HP has show they don’t care to me
This may seem minor to them, and I am only one customer, but I surly will not purchase again.
