Pavilion G6 2249WM powers on but does not boot - black screen

I have a G6 2249wm that had a message that the fan wasn't working. I had the fan replaced and after it was replaced it would not boot. I could hear the fan running and the caps lock light blinked once about every 5 seconds and the amber wifi light was on. After researching and taking steps outlined in the HP Computer does not start (Windows 8), I found that the code meant that the CPU was bad. I had that replaced and the notebook is still in the same condition. Is there anything else that I can do to get this computer to work?
Pavilion G6 2249WM    C2N47UA#ABA   AMD A6 - 4400M
After troubleshooting a little more I find that when the laptop is started the hard drive does not turn on. I used a USB adapter to plug the hdd into my desktop and found that it does work. I then plugged a different hdd that I know works into the laptop and found the same issue. Does this mean that the motherboard is bad?

Hello @FLC123,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I understand that your notebook computer is producing a blinking light from the caps lock, and that the screen is blank. I would be happy to help you!

  • P7-1446s powers on but does not boot (no video output)

Hi everyone, I've got a tricky issue with my p7-1446s.
    Specs: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03500676&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en#N90
Was running 8.1 at time of death.
The fans spin, the power light in the back is a solid green, and the disc drive opens and closes.
The backlight of the front on/off button does not turn on when the PC is powered on (it's typically backlit green for active use or orange for sleep).  This button will power the PC on, but doesn't turn it off.
I've tried multiple monitors (DVI and VGA), unplugging the hard drive and starting with a boot disc in the drive, and plugging in a video card, to no avail.
I'm getting the impression from solutions to similar problems on other computers that this is a this is a CPU or motherboard issue - is this something reflowing could solve?
    Thanks,
    Dan

  • GS70 - Does not boot - black screen with solid white dash

Sorry for the long post - I've been beating my head against this problem all day, filed a report ticket and really need help from anyone who has ideas.
Yesterday evening after finally relenting and allowing the patch Tuesday updates to install on my GS70 Stealth I tried to power on my computer and it remained stuck at the MSI logo. I waited 3 hours with no success before powering it off and attempting to access the bios by hitting the delete button. The screen turned black except for one non-blinking white dash near the center of the screen. This screen also remains indefinitely and requires a hardware power off to work. I've tried all of the function key presses and recovery shortcuts to no avail.
Eventually I tried to boot into linux via a live USB. I still could not access the bios but, to my surprise, so long as this USB is in my system, Windows happily boots. After this I tried to revert to a system restore point before the updates but that did not resolve the problem. I also tried to update the BIOS but there is no way to install BIOS updates that I know of that doesn't require accessing the old BIOS first (which I cannot do because the black screen with a white dash is still all that shows up). I tried forcing the UEFI bios to load through windows recovery settings with no luck either.
I've sent in an RMA/Support request and hopefully MSI will repair or replace my device but I sent it in for an RMA literally less than two months ago and to be having to do it again so soon is starting to turn me off of the product. For me to insure and ship my device to MSI costs a little over $100 each time which is rapidly turning this $1600 product into an $1800 one and turning me from an MSI brand loyalist to a 'one-star-review everywhere' evangelist. Is it possible that something MSI did during the last RMA screwed up my motherboard (they replaced the disfunctional steel series keyboard with a new marginally more functional steel series keyboard)? Does MSI ever cover the shipping costs for an RMA if the RMA is a result of damage that they caused to the device? Is there anything I should do to try to avoid burning more money trying to get a luxury-priced product I've already paid for to function?

i had similar problem myself on my first GS70 it has some sort of bios problem that it random hangs itself :/ causes OS not to boot and bios refuses to load but i managed to get my recovery USB to boot but not bios yet so i sent laptop off for repair they replaced the motherboard so i got it back then i had an faulty gpu :/ so i took it back and got money back so i bought new one some where else since than i havent had problem so this sort of problem sounds like bios firmware isnt booting propertly :/ so have you tried removing msata and HDD from laptop and then power laptop on? to see if bios gets forced on if so power it off put msata back on and so then power laptop back on and bios shall work again

  • Ideacenter B540 AIO does not boot (black screen)

    I have Ideacenter AIO B540. Windown 8.1  64bit
after booting the computer, I see that the computer turns on but nothing happens, black screen. the lenovo logo does not appear- nothing. shutting it down (hard) and rebooting again - nothing happens. the only solution i found is to "let it cool" (it was not hot from the first place..) for few hours and then rebooting it and it usually helps but clearly something goes wrong.
Please advise what could be the issue?

I had an HP desktop that used to do that to me.  It would randomly just shut off then give me a black screen whenever I tried to turn it back on.  Usually if I let it sit overnight it would work again in the morning, at least for awhile until it did it again.  At first it was once every week or two then became more frequent.  It ended up being something wrong with the motherboard.  A port went bad or something, I bought a replacement board for about $80 and it worked fine again.  Granted it also cost me around $60 to have it diagnosed at a local repair shop, but I got another couple years out of it.

Try resetting the SMC and PRAM

However, I suspect you zapped the Mini, maybe the lower voltage part since you siad  the fan works.
The power surge could have went into HDMI and damaged the TV.

Try booting into Safe Mode , if it works then you know its a software issue. If not then  you will have to take it in for service.

  • HP Pavilion S3500T Slimline powers up but won't boot or even go into setup

After working fine yesterday, machine was on but nothing but a black screen this AM. Totally unresponsive except to six-second power-off.  Unplugged and repowered got a partial boot, but then back to black screen - unresponsive. Since then will not even do boot diags. No post code beeps. All fans are running when on, but that's about it. When powered up, sometimes there is a little sign of life at the HD activity light - couple of flashes,. Then Cd seeks about six times (with or without a boot CD present) and everything stops.
Would appreciate any ideas as to how to approach this.

    Hi Jimmy,
It's not a good sign if your PC can't do boot diagnostics.  What happened when you tried to run the boot diagnostics?  Did you receive an error code? If yes, what is the error code?

  • Portege 2010 does not boot - blank screen

    Hi There
I need some help as my 2010 does not boot up. When I press the power button the power light comes on but I get nothing on the screen.
It was working when my brother was using it until the mouse froze and then he powered it off. He then powered it back on in which case only the power light came on with nothing on the screen.
The hard drive was clicking when it was working so I do have a gut feeling that the hard drive must have died and causing the laptop not to come back on as when I power it on I don't get no hard drive light or sound form the hard drive at all.
I don't even get anything on screen. Not even the red Toshiba boot sign. So that's worry in me as well.
    Many Thanks, Jagz

    Hi
I dont think its a HDD problem.
If the HDD would be dead you will get a message on the screen saying the notebook is not able to find a booting device.
If the Toshiba splash screen does not appear I think its something wrong with the motherboard. I assume the graphic card is dead. But to be 100% sure a check is needed.
In my opinion you should ask a service partner or an technician for an help.

  • Satellite L305D-S5934 does not boot - blank screen

    I have a problem with a 2 year old satellite l305d-s5934.
On switching on, the power light comes on but the hard drive light does not and the screen stays blank.
I have tried removing the battery and restarting without it after pressing power button, but nothing changes.
Any advice on fixing the problem would be welcome.
    Thanks

    Hi
Remove battery, disconnect the AC adaptor and leave the notebook disconnected for a longer period of time. After that connect both parts can try to power up the unit once again
If this does not help, check the RAM. Remove the single module and test both slots using each module.
Of course it could be possible that both modules are faulty and this procedure would not help you.
In worst case the motherboard might be affected in such case only mobo replacement would be helpful.

  • System will not boot / black screen

:undecided:Problem: System does not boot.  Black screen.
I just put this system together.   I've returned the CPU and motherbd. for exchange, thinking one may be defective.    Still No Boot.   PowerSupply checks out good.   MSI video card checks out good too.   Could it be the memory stick?   Pls. HELP.   BTW - Yes, I did remember to plug in the 4-pin power connector.

You got me there.    I only looked at the LED's after it hangs.
I must wait for my reshippment of my memory.   I returned it, and asked them to test it.    If it tested good, then it probably not compatible with system.   My next option was to order GIGARAM 1GB, since it is on the list of recommended DDR.
Sorry, I cannot reboot at the moment.   Do you think it is the memory, or something else?
    Thanks,

  • Pavilion dv6-3227cl entertainment notebook powers on but only has a black screen

An HP Pavilion DV6-3227cl Entertainment Notebook, that is approximately 2 years old and is running Windows 7 Home Premium, AMD Vision Premium, will power on but not boot up.  The fan runs and the "caps lock" light flashes once approximately every 4 seconds but all I get is a black screen with no cursor or error messages.  There are no beeps.  The power supply indicator illuminates (white) for about a second, then turns to a dim orange when the battery is installed, but remains white when the battery is removed.  However, the two indicator lights (I'm not sure what they are for) next to the USB port nearest the power indicator light illuminate as follows:  the one on the left (as you are looking at the right side of the notebook) is white; the one on the right is orange.  Both are fully illuminated (not dimly as the power indicator light).  The power indicator light is not as bright as the other white indicator near the USB port.  The notebook has booted up and appeared to be running one time since having this problem started, but I have not been able to get it to boot up again.  I am told the battery is bad (it's my brother in law's notebook), but is it possible the problem is with the power source rather than the processor or motherboard?  I appreciate your comments/advice on this matter.  Thank you.

    Hi fejevitzky,
Your question, "Based upon that, I believe you are telling me you do not think it is the BIOS--is that correct?" Yes, as long as you dont see any "white" light reveal from LCD bezel back side while with blank screen state. LCD bezel is the cover around LCD, most design put LED modeule at the bottom side next to LCD. While back light is not on during boot up sequence, that means system doesnt have chance to get BIOS program running. It also means, it stuck at state of hardware bring up. Normally motherboard related.

  • Touch Smaart pavilion 1050uk - Windows 7 home premium does not boot up!

No matter how many times I press F8 or boot up from a CD, it starts loading the files, then the PC gets stuck. I have tried to use one of those CDs tools which promises to boot up a PC in any state, it does not work. I know how to double check the fist boot up device (in BIOS, done it) -
It all started because I have scheduled a check disk on restart but this was interrupted due to a power failure, since then I  have been unable to get windows 7 to start.
The funny thing is that at the start up it gives the option to run diagnostics and all of them passed, including the RAM, Hard drive, and even the boot path!!
This is ridiculous, how can I get windows to start again or at least access my files which were not backed up yet and then save them? Thanks

    Hi
I know you said you tried to boot from cd's but did you try to boot from a Windows 7 installation disc? if not ...try it ..and instead of installing go into the "repair your computer" option and try the "startup repair" tool...try it a few times before you give up on it..sometimes it can take a few attemps to fix a problem. If that fails you can try to use the command prompt to fix it....here's a link to the bootrec commands     BOOTREC COMMANDS  <<<< YOU USE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!     If you do not have a Windows 7 installation disc you can use this instead  WINDOWS 7 REPAIR DISC  <<<<<this will give you the windows 7 enviroment to try the above repair methods, you will also need a torrent client to download this disc  >>> UTORRENT . If you cannot boot into the windows 7 disc (this is a long shot) you can try to boot from USB >>> BOOT WINDOWS 7 FROM USB
    Good Luck!
