Pavilion g6 Broken Right Hinge

I've had my G6 for almost a year and my right hinge is slowly breaking  off from the body. It's getting to the point where I can't close the computer. I searched this topic and I got to a topic on these forums called "Pavilion g6 Broken Left Hinge" found here : http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Hardware-Upgrades-Replacements/Pavilion-g6-Broken-Left-Hinge/td-p/32133... and apparently this is a common issue with the G6s.  I can't seem to reply to that topic. This is depressing that I can't use my laptop to the point where I can't move it without the hinge being to the point of breakage.  If someone from HP can help me here, I'd be greatful.

  • Powerbook g4 right hinge broken pink wire broken...

well as the title states the right hinge on my powerbook is broke, and theres a pink wire broken. my screen is not viewable at all unless i put a flashlight to it. is this an easy fix at all...if i take it into a repair shop? just wondering if its worth the $ to fix.

It is not a trivial repair, since you report a broken wire.  The right hinge of the Titanium powerbooks carries the cable from the inverter to the backlight, so if your book is a Titanium model, that explains why you have no backlight.  Hinges themselves can be replaced.  I just swapped both hinges in my slightly older unit with the not-inexpensive steel replacements from Powerbook Medic.  We'll see how they hold up, compared to the aluminum originals.
With a broken wire, though, you are looking at replacing the inverter cable, which is even more involved than replacing just a hinge and might involve some serious disembowelment of the machine, as otherwise you will be likely unable to actually get the cable fished through the back of the upper case.  This was my "older" TiBook just before replacing the display about five years ago.  Note the important off-camera location in the blue arrow.
The situation can be handled, but not without serious effort.

  • Broken left hinge on pavilions M6

hi my daughters pavillion m6-1004saa has also just broken on the left hinge and it's pushing out the bezel for the screen. it seems this is an inherrent fault judging by all the other posts? could we have some help from 'jeff' please? hoping you can help as we only bought this in nov 2012, but it was from currys so we cant go back to the retailerhoping you can helplinda

Like many other owners of an HP Pavilion M6 notebooks I too have a broken left hinge and was quoted a large ammount of money to have it repaired. When it seems to be an inherent problem with their product as I have seen by the many complaints. This problem as far as I can see, HP have not offered to fix as an agreed fault but only if paid for by the customer, who's only mistake was to buy a faulty product.I have never dropped my Pavilion and always use a padded bag designed for notebooks and since all customer complaints regarding the hinge seem to be identical in the LEFT Hinge, HP should come to the party and repair them for free.As a well known saying goes here in Australia "Not Happy Jan ! " which was coined from a TV add and has now been added to our venacular.I will not buy HP again.

  • Why lock a perfectly innocuous post about a broken PowerBook hinge?

    Very odd.
Some chap below said that his hinge had broken, that Applecare told him to take it to an Applestore to get them to determine if it was warrantable, but set his expectation that he would spend $500 repairing a 2 year old machine that he did not break.
He asks for advice, mentions that he's furious and the topic is locked.
Seemed like a perfectly reasonable thread to me. Just wondering what terms justify locking that particular thread and stopping that poor chap getting advice from the Apple community.
    Any ideas?

Thanks for the response. I Can't say I agree with your points at all.
    a) Forum for technical problems only?
    This is what Apple say on the subject;
"Apple Discussions is a user-to-user support forum that enables anyone who uses Apple products to meet and discuss various topics, resolve issues, ask questions, get tips and advice, and more".
If what you say about technical problems is written somewhere, perhaps you could point us to it.
Seem to me that he had a mechanical problem, completely legitimate.
He asked for advice on how to deal with the issue he had. He got advice. Nobody told him what to do - when I make a post, usually, the post allows me to decide if I want to mark it answered. His was locked. Doesn't that strike you as a bit strange?
His original question expressed a bit of frustration at being told he'd likely have to pay $500 for what he considered a hardware failure or design fault. He wasn't rude, profane or unreasonable in what he originally wrote, otherwise he wouldn't have got replies.
His follow up to the advice he got was to tell us what he was going to do and to promise to keep us posted.
"Odd thing was I had just used it right before it broke. I simply Opened the screen in the upward direction and heard something almost like a crack. Didn't think much of the noise and when I opened it to its upright position it had broke. That simple. No force whatsoever. Thats the most upsetting part. It's simply rediculous. If this has happened and Apple has received repairs specifically this type, the lightbulb should go on and say, "Hey we have a bunch of people with the SAME EXACT PROBLEM going on here. What can we do to rectify the problem and fix this." It's a simple recall just like what they did with the batteries. Enough people complain and something gets taken care of. Anyway, thanks for the luck. I am taking it to the Apple store this weekend to have them look at it. I will post my experiance as soon as I can. Hope this helps people who have had the SAME problem as me. "
Doesn't sound like whining, sounds like he was going to do something about it and like he wants a resolution to a legitimate complaint in an expensive 2 year old machine. A pretty reasonable response to the advice he got, I thought. He actually went to the trouble of explaining how he experienced the fault as he said "to help people who have had the SAME problem as me"
There are loads of posts here which have been going for months and months asking questions and debating issues - e.g. the Powerbook lines issue for example.
I'm just struggling to understand why someone has locked this particular post. I don't agree with your assertion that the poster is merely whining or has had his problem solved.
    So for the moment I am still wondering;
Why lock a perfectly innocuous post about a broken PowerBook hinge?

  • Broken left hinge on Spectre XT Ultrabook

I'm now one of the many HP users with a Spectre XT Ultrabook with a broken left hinge. Like most others in this forum, the laptop has been has never been carefully used and looked after but since the defect occurred out of warrantly HP won't offer support or replacement. Given the large number of people with this exact problem, it's CLEARLY a design nd/or manufacturing defect, so what are our options? Repair? Replacement? I desperately need this laptop for work...

  • HP 2000 Notebook PC Right Hinge Is Loose

A little over a year ago I purchased a HP 2000 Notebook PC.
Over the course of a few months I noticed a subtle popping or cracking noise whenever I opened my laptop. I didn't make much of it at the time, but now it's starting to become more noticable. What more I have also realized that the right hinge of my laptop cover is loose, which I believe is the sorce of the popping whenever I open my laptop screen.
I'm concerned in the event that the hinge breaks completely. To make matters worse I know my warranty expired earlier this year, but this issue came up before and it only just recently started coming to my attention that it might become a problem later down the line. My laptop is my livelihood and I can't live or do my work without it.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you, and let me know if you need more information.

  • HP Pavilion dv7t broken hinge

I have a HP Pavilion dv7t that has a broken hinge. It has slowly become a problem. First the screw fell out and we tried to replace it but it did not hold it tight enough. I have been very carefull with my laptop and I very rarely move it from its location in our house. Now I realize that my free support ended last week September 25th.  I wish I had looked into the problem sooner because I have been dealing with it for months.
I have seen the other posts and seen where some have tried to get this fixed and others have been sent a new laptop. What are my options at this point? Will it cost me to call support and ask what they recommend I do?
I am very disappointed in HP because I have up to now had great trust in this company and it's products.

Just got my Pavilion m6 back from HP, fixed hinges and screen at no cost to me. Laptop was out of warranty, but after a long phone conversation, HP finally decided to make it right. There are numerous people with this same issue. Let them know that. Good luck

  • Pavilion g6 broken hinges

I've had my g6 laptop for almost 2 years and now both hinges are broken and my laptop no longer turns on. I've  been searching online and it seems like this is a problem for a lot of people. But I have yet to find an answer for this. I've paid too much money for this laptop to last only 2 years. Does anyone know anything about this or has the same problem? Any help is appreciated.
