    What are question answers?
When a community member posts a question as a topic starter, other members can post an answer in reply. Please note that not all replies actually answer the question.
In some cases, an answer can be just some hints or helpful information to help the poster solve an issue. The originator of the topic can mark such a reply as a Helpful post. In other cases, a community member may post a specific answer that provides a solution to the original poster's issue. The originator can then mark this reply as a Solved post.
The original topic poster has the choice to mark replies as either Helpful or Solved, or not mark a reply at all. In addition, the originator can end the discussion by marking the topic as Answered, which provides a visual cue—a green star—to the community members. This lets everyone know that the topic contains valid helpful information.

  • Pavilion 23 AIO touchsmart CDROM drive not reading disks

The CDROM drive on my computer is not working. Well, it is not reading discs. I have tried several cd's, uninstalled the drive, and made sure it was not gunked up.  I can hear the drive *trying* to read the disc, but opens and says to install a cd.  Any other suggestions? Will I just have to replace the drive? The computer is fairly new (under 1 year old).

  • My desktop (hp Pavilion) is not reading anything from my cd/dvd drive

I was having problem with my desktop (no hardware issue. So I decided to wipe it clean by re-installing the Windows vista. I had my DVD' s so I went ahead and redid the installing, At the end of the installation I got an error message saying there was an error during the installation and I should restart computer and re-install the Windows Vista.
Now the problem is the Cd/DVD drive is not reading the DVD. No I have a computer with no OS and I tried to boot from CD I still get the same error message. I F 10 and went into BIOS and that does not help. Can someone please help me?
I am wondering if my CD/ DVD is dead, but how can that be when I was able to use it to install the DVD.
I used the same DVD on another computer and it worked fine,

I suspect you have the wrong disks. My 1.67GHz G4 came with OS10.4 in June 2005. Unlikely yours would have come with 10.1.2. You can't boot from an OS version lower than what it originally came with, or a disk from another model.

  • MSI DVD 8216M Not Reading Disks

I purchased an MSI DVD (8216M) from NewEgg a week ago.  So far I have run into a few DVDs that this drive will not play.
One in particular is a brand new DVD I bought yesterday.  At first it would not play the disk it at all.  I updated the firmware, and it will now read the DVD.  I can access the menu, and play the special features, but if I go to scene selection and select a scene, or play the movie, it fails to read the disk.

When did this start happening? Did you load any apps or software just before this began?
    You might reset PRAM

  • T43 Recovery Disks Not Reading Disk 1

I have tried recreating the factory partition but I keep getting an error on Disk 1.  I have wiped the drive using the PC-Tools software utility, tried the process with and without the supplemental disk and it gets all the way through to disk 1 and says it's not the correct disk.  I have checked the disk on another computer and the Disk 1 Recovery disk is good.  Any ideas?

    hey rconaway,
Is it possible for you to grab a screenshot of the error ?
At the same time, when you made the recovery disc; what was the version of Rescue & Recovery that you were using?
Currently Rescue&Recovery is at version 4.30.0027 (Win 7)
I would recommend upgrading if you havent and also try making another set and see if it works

  • DR4 - A. Does not read disks

My DR4 burner started working ok burning onto Ritek,Bulkpaq and Data Safe media. After 8 weeks its stopped writing to this media. When i try and read a previously burnt disk the green light at the front of the drive keeps flashing and locks up.
Its then displays a message of " No disk found". If i insert an original DVD or music CD all is okay.
Firmware is still at 2.30. Software Nero,Pinnacle to burn with. WinDVD and Power DVD to view with.
    Any ideas!

I have just installed a DR4-A in my system
    AMD Athlon XP 2700+
    512 MB Ram
    Gigabyte GN7N400V Pro 2 Mainboard
    40GB Hardrive
Have no problem in reading discs but it will not identify a CD-R disc in the drive when using the drag and drop utility that comes with Windows XP.
When using device manager and checking properties of the drive, under volume info it always lists the CD-R as DVD.
Starting to rip my hair out (and not much of it left)!!!!
Any ideas or do I just have a duff drive?

  • Not reading disks

I have a iMac 21.5" 2009 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, version 10.6.8 and all of a sudden it stopped reading discs, I tried inserting a copy of Snow Leopard to mount the disc via firewire on my macbook. I got an error message when I restarted my computer and it said Disc Non Readable and that was the copy of Snow Leopard.  I tried inserting my original iMac Installation DVDs and it just ejected the discs same as Snow Leopard.  I inserted a burned DVD that had some files on it and it mounted.  Any ideas????

Having a similar issue with my MacBook Pro OS x 10.6.8.  I'm responding to keep this discussion alive and maybe someone can help us.  I read something about trying to clean the optical drive, so I'm looking for a slot drive disk cleaner to try this weekend.  After that, I guess it's to the apple store.

  • Superdrive does not read disk when inserted

    Hi there,
Having a problem with my superdrive. When I insert any disk, the drive takes it but it can't read it.
Any suggestions as to the problem?

You've tried commercial CD's and DVD's? Does it show up on the desktop? In Finder>Prefereces>General the box is checked?

  • Drive not reading disks

I've had my MacBook for approx. 3 months now. I went to burn a CD this morning with iTunes, insert the blank disk, and it makes a funny noise while it tries to read the disk then ejects the disk automatically. Does the same thing with all CD's and DVD's. What do I need to do? Anyway to fix this without sending off to Apple?

You might want to try running a cleaning CD in your '12 PowerBook G4's optical drive. If dirt gets on the laser lens it can cause read errors to occur & ejecting of the disc due the Mac's inability to read the disc properly. The cleaning CDs have a special cleaning brush/fiber built into them that knocks the dirt/dust loose of the optical drive's laser lens.

  • Sony Optiarc BD Rom BC-5500S is not reading blu ray disks

I have a pavilion dv7-1070ev and upgrade from windows vista home premium 32bit  to Windows 7  home premium 64bit.The laptop came with the optical drive Sony Optiarc BD Rom BC-5500S with Firmware version 1.83.The problem is that the bd-rom is not reading blu ray disks. When i put in CD's/DVD's everything is fine -> drive starts to spin up and a little later the disc is readable/available in windows. When i put in a BluRay disc -> drive just makes a very short silent spin effort (to identify disc?),and no disc is available in windows. When i double click my drive icon (in my computer) it pops up a window asking me to insert a disc.Note that it is the first time I put blu-ray disk to watch blu-ray movie.I have never used the bd-rom when the laptop had windows vista.
The drive is compatible with windows 7 b4bit

When the laptop had windows vista hp said that the drive is working only with hp quickplay software. This is not compatible with windows 7

The software i am using for windows 7 is the hp mediasmart dvd.

Searched in forums I found these solutions :
    A clean registry
    1. To begin the process, start the Registry Editor.
Click START,click RUN, type REGEDIT, and then click OK.
Click the plus(+) next to the following folders in the left side of the window pane:
        HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
        SYSTEM
        CurrentControlSet
        Control
        Class
        (4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318)
      2. Look for any of the following names in the right side of the window pane:
        UpperFilters
        LowerFilters
    3. If any of the items above are listed, right click on the item and select DELETE.
    4. Be sure to restart your computer after you have deleted the files in the registry.
    B.new firmware
1.Download the latest version for the retail version of this drive from sony at:
     http://www.sony-optiarc.eu/uploads/media/WinDL_BC5500S_V106_02.zip
Sony says that you can only update from Firmware versions 1.01, 1.02, 1.03, 1,04 and 1.05. Previous firmware version(s) other than mentioned here are probably OEMs and therefore cannot be updated with this file.  Contact  your PC manufacturer (FTS, DELL, HP....) if you require firmware updates for these drives.
I have HP version 1.83 dated December 2007 so I cannot update.
    C.Uninstall/install bd-rom
Uninstall bd-rom from device manager ,restart the pc and then looking for drivers.
    searching not found something.
My driver is up to date (21/06/2006) and the driver is 6.1.7601.17514
    D.Clean the laser lens
I put a cd cleaner to clean the lens, but that didnt help
I have used the solutions but the problem is not solved.
    Can anyone help ;

QuickPlay is made by Cyberlink who also makes Power DVD 10, 11 and 12 products.
You have to uninstall QuickPlay and all Power DVD products (don't use QuickPlay anymore, it's outdated and it will not be updated as it's been long discontinued). There is also a Power DVD folder(s) that needs to be deleted as well.
After you have uninstalled everything, run CCleaner as many times as necessary and delete what it finds in its registry cleaner.
     http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
Here is also a link for Power DVD11 cleaner as well, use this after CCleaner.
http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/16915.page (restart after all of this)
Are you running the trial of DVD or have you paid for it ? If you want to purchase some Blu-ray software then stay away from Cyberlink, I use Total MediaTheatre 5 and it's much better.
Also available for free is Power DVD 10 for HP owners, when installed correctly, it's OK, but it's not with out its problems.
If you want to install Power DVD10, then post again.
The other thing that worries me is your Sony drive, I have had many people here that I can't get the Sony drive to read Blu-ray's. I don't know if its firmware is out of date (there is no firmware update) or if the new updated Blu-ray players have become incompatible.
You may be forced to buy a Pioneer or HP Blu-ray reader.

  • Boot image does not exist and cannot read disk label errors.

Hi - I'm having a problem with installing Solaris 9 4/04 on a Netra T1. The Netra already has Solaris 7. I need to get this set up as a jumpstart server but it can't find the boot image. I'm using a brand new bonafide installation disk - not a copy. The system won't let me install/upgrade to Solaris 9 either. I get an error stating that disk label can't be read. I've tried swapping out the CDROM but I still get the same errors. Does anyone know what or why this may be happening? (Oh - and another strange thing - like I said the CDs are the original but there doesn't appear to be a cdrom/cdrom0/s0 directory. The directory I see is cdrom/cdrom0/sol_9_404_sparc/Solaris_9/Tools)

    Thanks

Hi check that you are booting of the right cd. Make sure it is soalris 9 software 1/2 if that fails then it may well be that your cd is buggered. most likely it is buggered it it cant find the boot image.
