Pavilion g6 won't upgrade to windows 8.1

I have a Pavilion g6 that came with Windows 8. I have tried on 2 different occasions to upgrade to Windows 8.1. The first time, several weeks ago, I completed the install, but have had problems ever sense, system hangs, software that dies, etc. I finally decided to use my system backup to reinstall to from scratch. I did this, and then installed all Windows updates and HP updates. After 2 days of updating, I tried to install Win 8.1. I have tried 4 times and it fails each time. It downloads the updater and then says it needs to restart to complete the install and when it does, it just sits there with a bunch of dots going around in a small circle.

I finally just got a friend's Pavilion g6 to upgrade to Windows 8.1. Here's what I did:
1. Did all Windows updates.
2. Did all driver updates by going to device manager and hitting "update drivers" for each device.
3. Ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter.  It said it did two fixes.
4. Ran sfc/scannow.  It didn't find any errors.
5. Turned off Windows Firewall.
6. Changed to high performance power scheme (doesn't turn off anything if on ac power.)
7. Disabled antivirus.
8. In Task Manager, I ended every task that didn't look absolutely essential, including all HP tasks.
9. I started the upgrade in the evening and promised myself not to look at it or touch it until morning.
10. In the morning, all was good.
11. Re-enabled Firewall, antivirus, more conservative power scheme.

  • G780 Won't Upgrade to Windows 8 Pro

Several attempts to upgrade my brand new G780 from w8 (pre-installed) to w8 Pro 8 have failed.
The new pro key is accepted, the install proceeds, after a long hour or so the installation finishes, but with an error message 'Couldn't add features ... contact Microsoft Support'.  Front line MS Support couldn't fix it.
I believe the problem is the original w8 product key burned into the BIOS.  All installs go back to that instead of using the new upgrade key.  I've tried installs with both a new Pro CD and online.
Anyone know how to fix this?  It's very annoying!
(It's also difficult to understand why Lenovo advertises the G780 as a desktop replacement with an OS that won't even join a domain.  I have another two G780s to deploy, but they are staying in their boxes until this gets resolved.)
    Thank you

    hi DaveStanley,
    Welcome to the Forums.
You may want to check this article by microsoft as it's similar to your issue:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2796988
The solution was to repack the Windows 8 ISO with a pid.txt file in the \sources folder.
    The pid.txt file should contain:
    [PID]
    Value=XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
where XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX is the product key.
Try to repack the ISO and burn it on DVD or a USB key and try to install Windows 8 Pro again.

  • HP Pavilion a1647c won't go into windows, just keeps re-booting

Having a problem with a HP Pavilion a1647c computer.
This is my moms machine so I dont know what may have occured prior to the state it is in now but as it stands when you turn the machine on you are at the Windows boot screen where you can choose safe mode, sm + network, sm + cmd prompt, last known good, normal etc.
When I select any of these, it tries to load windows but then the system just reboots and I end up back at the windows boot screen.
I have never seen this before so I have no idea what is going on. It appears that when it is loading windows that there is some sort of blue screen that flashes but i have no idea what it might be as it happens so fast you cant see anything.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you!

What you are seeing without the BSOD because it was/is probably turned off, so it just keeps recycling.  If you can still get into the F8 menu, select the "Disable The Automatic Restart On System Failure item" and press [Enter]
If that entry is not on the list of things, where the top item is usually "Safe Mode", then more problems.

  • Itunes won't upgrade on windows XP

I tried to go to icloud but got a message about firmware when I tried to upgrade my iphone software.  Then I tried to update itunes and nothing happened.  It wouldn't even start to upgrade.

Then I tried to update itunes and nothing happened.  It wouldn't even start to upgrade.
With that one, try updating using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) downloaded from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Does that go through any better for you?

  • ITunes won't upgrade to10.5. Error message "There is a problem with the Windows installer package. Contact the package vendor". I need help.

    iTunes won't upgrade to10.5. I'm on 10.1.17.
When installing 10.5 it terminates with an error message "There is a problem with the Windows  installer package. Contact the package vendor".
It does not provide an error code or details/description to further troubleshoot. As a result I can't upgrade my Apple devices to leverage the cloud.
Any smarts out there who could help?
Using PC Win-7 w/IE 7 (should that matter)
    Thanks much

I know there's a million threads like this, but I thought I'd record my experience.  I, too, was having the original poster's error when I tried to update iTunes on Windows XP.  I think I was stuck on 10.
I solved it by un-installing iTunes and every other Apple app.  I discovered that Apple Software Update would not un-install as its MSI file could not be found.  I used the "Windows Install Cleanup" tool from Microsoft to remove Apple Software Update from the list of installed programs.  Google "kb290301" for a Microsoft page that includes a download link for it.  After that, I was able to install a fresh copy of iTunes 10.5.2.
I'm not sure why this app's folder and MSI were missing from my computer.  I had once used Laplink PC Mover to move everything from my old computer to this one, and perhaps it missed a bit.

It looks like this unit has not yet been certified for Windows 8.  Review this site to see what to expect when upgrading to Windows 8.  Click on More Information at the bottom to get a more detailed list and to have the option to see if HP has tested the unit for Windows 8.
Make sure to install the Windows 8 HP Software Framwork found here.
There is a chance that some functions simply will not work.  Since the unit has not been certified for Windows 8 and does not have Windows 8 drivers from HP, the Windows 7 drivers and software may need to be reinstalled using compatibility mode.  Review my post located here for the method that seems to have the most success.  The key to install HP software with compatibility mode is to let the extraction complete and then navigate to the real software installer in the extracted folder.
I recommend reinstalling the newest driver for each component in compatibility mode as outlined in the linked post.  Here is the software page for your unit.
    Let me know what happens.

  • Outlook and iCloud won't sync since Windows 8.1 upgrade

So I've finally figured out my problem, but have no solution. The problem is that ever since I upgraded to Windows 8.1, Outlook "forgets" that the iCloud add-in is enabled. Every time I start Outlook, I have to manually go into options and re-enable the add-in. After that, syncing calendars and contacts to iCloud and my iPhone works just fine. In order to fix this, I figured out that I can set Outlook to run as an administrator. Works perfectly, as in now having the add-in enabled automatically. I thought this was the end of my troubles, but now Outlook no longer syncs with iCloud. Tried everything, and it just won't.I read on another thread that Outlook won't sync when you run it as an administrator. And sure enough, switching back to NOT running it as an administrator fixed the problem, in that it now syncs again. However, I'm stuck with re-enabling the add-in every time I start Outlook. Is there no other way to do this?

I don't use playlists. Maybe as a workaround you could try music software other than Windows Media Player, like Media Monkey
    http://www.mediamonkey.com/
And see if you have better luck.
The free version of Mediamonkey should  do playlists for you; what you get with the Gold (paid) version, mostly, is an mp3 ripper, but you can also install an mp3 ripper without buying it.

  • Hp pavilion dv6500 upgrade to windows 8 64 bits

hi guys i have an hp pavilion dv6500 laptop with 64 bit processor and i want to upgrade it to windows 8 64 bit but during the installation am asked to select file or insert cd containing the drivers before proceeding with the installation. can anyone help me with a link to download these particular drivers please.....

Have you run the Windows 8 compatibility checker?
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/upgrade-from-windows-vista-xp-tutorial
Open the Device Manager and see which devices are installed. That is important and will save a lot of time. Verify the wireless and wired network interface devices. Otherwise we will have to find out what they are the more difficult way.
You can install and run CPU-z  to find out which chipset and graphics device is installed. Use the tabs.  Once we know those, then finding the drivers is a possibility. The notebook may be a bit far back in generations for Windows 8, but Windows 8,1 does have a large builtin driverstore so it is a possibility.

I upgraded to itunes 11 still won't open for windows 8

Are you trying to transfer the GarageBand projects or the rendered audio files? What version of GarageBand do you have on your iPhone?
I do not think you can share your GarageBand projects from your iPhone to GarageBand on your Mac, unless you have iCloud, afaik, only the audio files.
How did you transfer the song?
To share from an IOS device the Projects or audio files, see:  Share GarageBand songs

  • NEW Pavilion x360 11 on 8.1 Upgrade to Windows 10

Just purchased a HP Pavilion x360 11-k099nr w. Windows 8.1. So my question is, from right out of the box with Win 8.1, should I: 1. Update the computer with all WIn 8.1 HP updates and then proceed to upgrade to Win 10? ; or 2. Should I update nothing for Win 8.1 and proceed to update to Win 10 right out of the box? I do see a series of updates to this unit on the HP web for Win 8.1, most dated July 2015.  Cheers

Honestly I don't think you should bother with a bunch of windows 8.1 updates. Windows 10, is a completly new OS and the installation process will download any necessary updates that your PC needs.  After you get up and running with Windows 10, go the the HP support website and let it auto detect your machine, this will make sure the HP support app on your machine is updated and with help make sure your drivers and other software are up to date.

  • Won't sleep after windows 10 upgrade

After the windows 10 upgrade, laptop won't go into sleep mode completely as before. Most often I've to put my laptop in sleep and then resume my works ASAP but after upgrading to windows 10, it is so painful to start/force-start the lappy everytime.!! The power light blinks fastly and the sudddenly stops in the last thereby putting laptop in freeze/shut down state!!I've updated all video audio drivers.Continuosly am going on installing all the Windows System update coming out daily, still nothing works out.Somewhere I read, the problem is in BIOS driver, I'm not that tech guy so I'm totally in the dark. Some one please help me out.

I just remembered that when it was in the blue screen loop the error that it was reporting was WDF _ VIOLATION.

  • Loss of sound on pavilion dv6700 since upgrading to Windows 10

since upgrading to windows 10 I have lost my audio.....can't play MP3 music and the system sounds do not work...searched for sound card driver and found three recommended...each one reported suitable hardware not found.....decided to reinstall the sound card driver from my windows 7 install, as luckily I backed up all my drivers before upgrading to OS10.....,although it installed, still no sound...have removed device and drivers and let the laptop reinstall after restart.....don't know what else to try.....don't suppose there is a function key muting sound that I don't know about....thanks

Hi there Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome! I just need your specific Model Number (How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?) I read your post on the HP Support Forums and see that you are having issues with your HP Pavilion dv6700 Entertainment Notebook PC. I understand that since you have upgraded to Windows 10, you are having an issue with your sound not working. I would be happy to assist you. Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues. Have you tried in the Device Manager to update the driver that is currently installed? Have you tried to select "Find New Hardware" in the Device Manager?Have you tried connecting headphones to see if the Sound issues persist that way?Have you tried to uninstall in the following order: 1. Uninstall the sound driver in Device Manager2. Restart your Notebook3. Reinstall the driver? You can use the HP Support Assistant for drivers. Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that need updating for Windows 10. If you choose to download the drivers from the HP Driver's Page and there is not a driver in the Windows 10 Column, there should be one in the Windows 8.1 column. The Windows 8.1 drivers should work in Windows 10 also.  Have you tried the Disable and then Enable method? If not, you can find this and other troubleshooting steps in the HP Notebook PCs - No Sound from Speakers (Windows 10, 8) document.  Please follow these provided troubleshooting steps, re-post and let me know how everything went. Thank you! Have a great day!

  • HP C7280 Solution Center won't work after upgrading to Windows 7

I was running Vista and connected to the C7280 both wired and wireless. Last month or so has been wireless with no issues.
I upgraded to Windows 7, reinstalled the driver I had, and now when I try to scan I get an error that says "An unsupported operation was attempted" that pops up twice, then I get an error that says "An invalid argument was encountered".
Then a pop up window gives some steps to try to fix the problem.
I downloaded and installed driver PS_AIO_02_Net_Full_Win_WW_130_140.exe which didn't work.
I then removed the printer from hardware, and uninstalled the Solution Center software,
    Re-installed driver  PS_AIO_02_Net_Full_Win_WW_130_140.exe C7200 driver package and
    installed dot4patch_reboot.exe,
shut the printer down, unplugged it for a few minutes, rebooted the computer, and
    the same errors occur.
The driver is a year old, and I can't find a newer version.
    Released:
    2009-10-20
    Version:
    13.1.0
The patch is a few months newer but it didnt help either.
