Pavilion G7 DVD Replacement

I need to replace the DVD drive but can't get the service panel off. It is different that the one in the online manual.  I only have one screw instead of two and it won't lift off like the one pictured in the manual.
I did a search but the solutions I found still didn't let me get the back off.
This question was solved.

  • Pavilion Slimline DVD drives and eject wire...

I tried to replace the DVD drive on my Pavilion Slimline with an HP dvd1270i DVD drive. Had no problems installing it until I tried to plug the eject wire to a plug on the new DVD drive. Problem is, there's no plug on this drive to attach the eject wire to. The DVD drive that originally came with the Slimline does have this plug. Can someone recommend a DVD drive for the Slimline that does have a plug for the eject wire? Or is there a way to transfer the plug from the old drive to the new drive? Thanks in advance...

I have similar problem on my micro PC case from HP
CD rom tray has not mechanical device for ejecting media but electrical switch instead.
There is no chance to reach eject button on DVD ROM, because it's hidden under doors on the case.
And that {Content Removed: Language Filter Evasion}non standard HP connector for opening CD used on case is not compatible with any DVD ROM I can find in my local store including HP products.
And nobody knows anything about that.

  • Pavilion dv9700 DVD/CD ROM stopped working: Code 10 (This device cannot start.)

I have a HP Pavilion dv9700 running Windows 7 where the DV)D/CD ROM drive fails to be detected. I can still get it to open and close. The device manager gives an error: Code 10 (This device cannot start). I read somewhere that iTunes upgrades can cause DVD problems in HPs, and I did upgrade iTunes a couple of days ago. I did upgrade the BIOS a few moments ago, but it didn't help. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Thank you for the responses! Sorry it took me so long to implement--I wanted to back everything up first before messing with the registry. Following the instructions to delete lines in the registry AND uninstalling iTunes allowed for the DVD/CD ROM to pop up with an exclamation mark in my Device Manager. Updating the driver did not help as the computer said the driver was up-to-date. Mysteriously, when I rebooted, the DVD/CD ROM disappeared from the device manager again. I forgot to mention in the initial post that the DVD/CD ROM light blinks steadily at about two blinks/second. Any other ideas? I am wondering if this is a hardware failure now.

  • Pavilion G6 - DVD drive won't burn disks

    PC details;
    HP Pavilion G6-1309ea Notebook
    Product number: A9X35EA#ABU
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1
Processor: AMD A4-3305M APU with Radeon HD Graphics 1.90 GHz
CD-ROM Drive: hp CDDVDW SN208-BB Sata CdRom Device (Device Manager reports it's working properly)
The PC is outside its warranty period.
Hello, as a user with very little technical knowledge I need some help.
DVD disks will no longer burn. Ashampoo Burning Studio 2013 & similar programs all indicate successful completion of dvd burn but when disks are run afterwards, no data appears to be contained on them (apparently blank disks which click a lot then open in AutoPlay.)
I also tried burning a CD for audio with Windows Media Player but it stopped at 99% then began clicking & making strange noises resulting in an unreadable blank CD.
I've found nothing relevant previously posted here other than this; http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/en-us? which has been read & all the steps completed, so some assistance would be appreciated since to date 20 odd disks have already been wasted. A variety of different brands and types of writable discs - but all to no avail.
So... all suggested steps in link ablove completed.
I've cleaned the optical laser, updated drivers & ensured Microsoft Updates are current, uninstalled/reinstalled the DVD/CD-ROM drive, used Microsoft Fix it Solution (MicrosoftFixit.dvd.MATSKB.Run) which resulted in various fixes but didn't cure the problem. In the registry there were no upper and lower filters.
    Thanks, Tony

    Hello hpvirgin55,
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!
I understand you are unable to burn DVDs anymore. I will do my best to assist you with this issue!
In this situation, it is hard to determine whether the issue is due to faulty hardware or software. To truly determine this, a reinstall of the operating system will be required. For more information on how to do this, please reference this document: Performing an HP System Recovery

  • Satellite A100-646 - New DVD replacement drive

    Hi all,
I need to replace the dvd unit of my laptop.
I'm looking for a sparepart on the web, bat i don't find anything.
Somebody can suggest me were buy a dvd drive compatible?
    I write from italy.
    thanks
    Regards

    Hey,
Important is that you buy a compatible CD/DVD drive because not all drives are compatible with all notebooks.
In your user manual you should find a list of compatible drives that you should check. These drives are pretested and will work/fit.
If you search with Google you will find some online shops where you can buy it I think. Alternative you can also ask an authorized service provider directly, the guys know what drive is compatible:

    Good luck! :)

  • Where can I find internal DVD replacement for Mac Pro 2008?

My optical DVD drive on my Mac Pro (3,1) has been dead for a good long while.
Looking for a cheap replacment.  Just saw OWC stopped carrying them.  Any leads?

For Mac Pro 3,1 and earlier (2008 and previous) you need an IDE/ATA drive like this one:

  • Pavilion dv7-5003tx replace hdd recovery disks error code OxeOefoooe please help.

have tried both recoveries hangs at 45% and goes no where

    Hi,
One factor that can cause this error is replacing the original HDD with a drive of smaller capacity - if this is the case, recovery discs almost always fail to work correctly, however there isAssuming this is an alternative option you could try.
Before trying the following, make sure you can still read the 25 Character Product Activation key on your Windows COA label ( 5 blocks of 5 alpha/numeric sets ).
An example of a COA Label can be seen Here.
You can create a Windows 7 installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the correct Disc Image ( this must be the same version that originally came with your notebook ) from the link below and use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.  These Images are clean and from a well-respected source, however there are only limited versions available.
    Windows-7 sp1-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit
Use the disc to perform the installation, enter the Windows activation key found on the COA Label when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.

  • Pavilion dv6700 dvd drive problem

I have a Pavilion dv6700 with Vista Home Premium 32.  I can burn cd's and read cd's but when I put in a dvd (bought movie) nothing shows in "my computer".  I've ran fix it, removed registry limits, uninstalled and reinstalled and still......"devise is working properly" but still can't watch a movie.  My wife has recently added frostwire and Overdrive Media Console.  could one of these programs be causing the problem?.......Thanks for any help...

Which software are you using to watch dvd movie?
Try other software such as VLC, here

  • HP Pavilion g7-2221ez - replacing current 320 GB HDD with a 2TB HDD - POSSIBLE OR NOT?

Hello folks. Many questions on this topic but none that apply exactly to my situation: HARDWAREHP Pavilion g7-2221ez17.3" LED Sandyridge B9504GB, 320GB, DVD +-, CAM, WLAN, HDMIIntel HD Graphics 4000, Win8(in meantime upgraded to Win8.1) According to diagnostic done with free Internet tool the HDD is:Type:  ATAModel:  Toshiba MQOZABDO32Firmware:  AX001CSerial No:  XXXXXXXXXXXXCapactiy:  320GBLBA48:  SupportedSMART:  EnabledSection Type:  4K/512e I did purchase a Toshiba 2.5" SATA Hard Drive but found that has a height of 15mm whereas I only have space for a 9.5mm HDD. However, in the meantime I have found what seems to be a newer and perfect drive: TOSHIBA MQ-SERIES2TB SATA II 2.5" HDDRetail:  PX3006E-1HLORTHeight:  9.5mmCache:  8MBRevolutions:  5400/minute I read the Toshiba warning that in addition to phsical dimensions and connectors there are parameters like power consumption, temperature distribution etc. that could differ. Also an older BIOS version many not recognise a more modern, and larger HDD which exceeds a certain storage capacity. So my 2 questions are: (1)  Will the Toshiba MQ-Series PX3006E-1HLORT HDD work in my existing HP Pavilion g7-2221ex laptop?(2)  Will I need to change any other bits of hardware e.g. connector or install a new BIOS? Thanks and a final quickie. Trying to install the 15mm drive in the 9.5mm space i damaged slightly the two rubber end protectors that you slip off each end of the old HDD and onto each end of the new HDD. Where can i buy a new set? Have looked everywhere - nobody seems to sell them. Many thanks.Enthusiastic HP laptop user in need of more space for photos and stuff!Cheers. Steve.

Hello Huffer Many thanks for your prompt reply. I have been doing a bit more research and came across an old spec for a "lenovo" hard-disk (HDD) with 320GB capacity used in numerous ThinkPads. Unfortunately it does not include the X300 model that i have. The full details can be found HERE. The height of the HDD is 7 (SEVEN) mm. I may be paranoid but can you please just confirm that the lenovo X300 ThinkPads (see full details above) with the 320GB HDD really have a height of 9.5mm and so will be able to take the HDD 2.5" with 2TB that I plan to buy. If the height really is only 7m then I have a problem.  Then I think that i will have to go up my idea of increasing the storage space. If you cannot answer the question with 100% certitude then I will have to reopen the laptop and measure the space available but that is a pain since I am new to all this and afraid of damaging the HDD. Thanks. Cheers. Steve.
