  • Pavilion g7-2292nr Hinge issue

In December of 2012 I recieved this HP g7-2292nr 17.3" laptop (1TB HDD, 8gb RAM, AMD A6 Vision CPU). It is a gentle use laptop that I try to take very great care of, and never am rough with it in any way. About 6 months ago the top bezel on the top right of the inside of the computer (On the keyboard face, closest to the left hinge and power cord-in), started slowly coming up whenever the monitor was adjusted. This progressively got worse no matter how slowly I opened the monitor. One day it became extremely bad, and upon further inspection, i noticed that the metal Hinge that is connected to the monitor was not connected to the base of the laptop on the inside anymore, and that it was pushing up on the top, thus causing the top to come up.
I opened up my laptop, and unfortunately, the plastic holes for screws that are used to connect that metal hinge to the base of the laptop were broken, with the pieces rattling around on the inside. There was absolutely no way to repair this except Gorilla Glue, which I applied delicately, and a small piece of plastic I stuck in the Lock hole on the side, which also keeps the metal hinge attatched to the base and not coming up. This solution has worked good enough since, and today when i opened my laptop, I noticed that the Bezel on the left side of my laptop was coming up as well, meaning that the hinge to my left side is also coming up, meaning those screw-holes are broken.
The only permanent solution I can find is to get a whole new Plastic Chassis, and put all of the components back in there, yet I am tight on money, and I cannot justify the 200$ to get a new piece of plastic that will break on me in a year or two. What I want to know is, Besides Gorilla Glue and hopes, is there any way to repair this?
Unfortunately my 1-year warranty expired the year after, in December of 2013, so I have no active Warranty..
I noticed many others owning this laptop have had the exact same problem, researching other forums.
    Anything helps, thanks!

  • HP Pavilion dv7 hinge issue

I have an HP Pavilion dv7t-6000 Quad Edition notebook PC that i purchased in 2011. This laptop worked great for the first year and a half and then the left hinge snapped off and now the laptop lid won't close. If I try to close the lid, the plastic holding the screen begins to separate and crack. This is a known and very common flaw with the design of this model, yet there was no recall. I paid $1400+ for this laptop and it has lost its mobile functionality because of the hinge. Similar to other users with the same problem, I use my laptop normally in a work setting so there is absolutely no way that this problem is my fault. I need someone at HP to help me find a solution to this problem.

this is only a forum for people have their issues solved, the only advice you will recieve here is how to repair things, this isnt a customer complaints forum you will need to contact hp customer support, people on here dont actually work for hp

  • DM4 Laptop - loose hinge issue causes display go blank - on TWO laptops

Hi - I want to know if hinge issue is a know on HP DM4 laptops ...
I have two DM4 laptops.. one was fixed under warrenty and other one same issue and not under warrenty any more...
this is really fustrating .. it's the similar issue.. wondering if this is known issue .. and HP is fixing it for free????
    if HP isn't helping customers..
please let me know if there is a cheaper way to fix the issue ?    --
    thanks
    agokani

Done a few DM4 series hinges & most had broken the actual thread points in housing frame rather than hinge.
You need have a look yourself as far far cheaper & not too hard if compitent with hand tools. HP service manual from downloads section will help in stripping down to evaluate issue.
    Hinges are cheap for example:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Pavilion-DM4-1000-2000-series-Right-and-Left-Hinges-hinge-sets-608214-001...
Screen going blank could be screen cable damaged due to hinge area fault, again screen cable not expensive & replaced easy if use some care & thought.
You may be wise contact hp with the issue & see if they willing to do a discounted or free repair but from my experience you will end up chasing your tail without valid warranty or being prepared to pay rediculous repair costs ... a few guides & videos should be easily found via google to help you do the repairs ...

  • X121E Left hinge is broken

Hello. The left hinge of my laptop was broken after less than 100 open / close cycles. Service center says it's not a warranty issue, but if judge by google search it is a design flaw, because every next user has the same problem. Please advise where should I sent a complaint?

    Hi, nebucad_nezzard
When it comes to International Warranty Service, Lenovo has this tool right here that will tell you if service is available in a country. It will also tell you what kind of service you can receive in said country. Put in your machine type and see what you can do!

  • G570 Hinge Issue (related to Screws)

I have checked some of the threads related to this topic but they are all fairly old and haven't addressed my query.
It started earlier this year when the right hinge (when looking at the screen), on my G570 started acting wonky, I had no idea what they problem was and it didn't affect the performance (just made a cracking sound when I opened it). It wasn't until the past weekend when the left hing also started behaving poorly that I realized the issue. The screw holding the hinge down had come out and now whenever I moved the hinge the hinge moved as well. This makes it hard to get the screen to say upright, it makes it extremely difficult to adjust the angle (used to be able to adjust from 0-120 degress, now its pretty much 90 degrees or closed).
I have to put my finger where the hinge is as I close the laptop to try and replicate the job the screw once did. This is not perfect but it gets the job done (takes about 5 attempts), but it will definitely not continue to suffice.
I fear that the issue may be more than just the screws though, I don't want to order some screws (I can get them for under $10 but I'd still rather not spend $10), only to find that the issue is that the bracket is the issue (screws are useless if the thing they screw into is broken). I was wondering if there were any other less-crucial screws on the computer that I could take out to check to see if the hinge only needs new screws.
Basically are there any screws on the underside that I could move to the hinge area for the time being/check to see if getting new screws would fix the issue? I want to make sure I don't ruin my computer by removing another vital screw, but definitley would like to test the screws before I go and order some more.

    Update:
So I found another thread that is 23 pages long, at about page 9 I found out that someone who's warranty had expired was able to get the problem fixed, becuase it is a known issue. Another person was required to pay $187 because it wasn't covered under the warranty, but was later refunded the money.
So while my warranty is up, it appears I may still have a shot at having this repaired professionally (glad I didn't remove anything). However according to the support site I could be billed for the call to Lenovo because my warranty is up? How is that a way to do business? Will I be told at what point I will be billed (at which point I could hang up), or is it billed from the start?

  • Has anyone had a hinge issue on 2010 Macbook?

My 2010 Macbook (purchased in December 2009, has a small hinge crack on the left side, and a large one on the right side (almost one inch long) It is a similar crack to that found with the Macbook Air. It has never been dropped, ruling out any excuse Apple has. Has anyone had a hinge issue?

  • Broken left hinge on pavilions M6

hi my daughters pavillion m6-1004saa has also just broken on the left hinge and it's pushing out the bezel for the screen. it seems this is an inherrent fault judging by all the other posts? could we have some help from 'jeff' please? hoping you can help as we only bought this in nov 2012, but it was from currys so we cant go back to the retailerhoping you can helplinda

Like many other owners of an HP Pavilion M6 notebooks I too have a broken left hinge and was quoted a large ammount of money to have it repaired. When it seems to be an inherent problem with their product as I have seen by the many complaints. This problem as far as I can see, HP have not offered to fix as an agreed fault but only if paid for by the customer, who's only mistake was to buy a faulty product.I have never dropped my Pavilion and always use a padded bag designed for notebooks and since all customer complaints regarding the hinge seem to be identical in the LEFT Hinge, HP should come to the party and repair them for free.As a well known saying goes here in Australia "Not Happy Jan ! " which was coined from a TV add and has now been added to our venacular.I will not buy HP again.

  • Broken left hinge on Spectre XT Ultrabook

I'm now one of the many HP users with a Spectre XT Ultrabook with a broken left hinge. Like most others in this forum, the laptop has been has never been carefully used and looked after but since the defect occurred out of warrantly HP won't offer support or replacement. Given the large number of people with this exact problem, it's CLEARLY a design nd/or manufacturing defect, so what are our options? Repair? Replacement? I desperately need this laptop for work...

  • Dm4 Left hinge broken

I'm  wondering  how a notebook (dm-4) tht has been on a desk in the open position 80% of the time since 2012 can have a hinge broken? This note book was seldom closed, so my  question is _ How would this hinge stand up for a user tht indeed does take the notebook to work, classes, the coofee shop  ect.. whn sitting on a desk n seldom closed the hinge has failed??  The dm-4 has seldom left the desk it is on..... n thy call ths a note book. Note books r made to open n close... hence the moniker  "notebook"  thy open n close.
Now I have a unit on a desk tht has a sign "DO NOT CLOSE" seems silly. The Hp repair cost @ $179.99 is wht I see has a kick in the gut to it's users. The hinge is a very important part tht should hold-up n preform over time.      Come-on Hp  !!

    Hello, Eric,
Left hinge of my HP Pavilion dm4 1165dx laptop was broken.
I contatcted the HP service center on phone, told by the customer service representative:
    1. The only way HP epairs the hinge is replacing the entire LCD display, @US$190, with 7 - 9 days of turn around.
    2. There is no HP service enter in Los Angeles, CA where I can take the laptop to be repaired.
    3. On-site technician service is not available at Los Angeles, CA.
    4. I can 'take it or leave it' for the service available to me.
No. 4 sounds harsh, particularly to a long time loyal HP customer such as myself.
However, that aside, what can I do to have my laptop repaired reasonably?
No one can afford to be without a laptop for 7 - 9 days for loss of productivitiy.
Since you represent HP, is there anything you can do to help me? The bevel for display cracked at the corner due to the broken hinge when I tried to close the laptop. I need to repair the hinge before it cause more secondary damages.
    Thank you kindly.

  • HP Pavillion M6 1010tx Left hinge breaking apart

    Hey!
So my dad bought me HP Pavillion M6 - 1010tx just over a year ago and I have been using it very very carefully. I just started noticing that the left hinge just under the screen is breaking apart. Initially I thought I might have banged it somewhere but I was sure I didn't. Upon researching a bit, I found out that it is a very common issue with these models. I have come across a lot of posts where the users have had the same issue.
I'm just wondering if it's such a common issue, is HP taking care of it? Or is there any replacement part available? I looked everywhere and the replacements parts are not available.
Any help would be really appreciated.
    Thanks
