Pavilion gv laptop colors on monitor color problem

I'm having color problems on my laptop. While the colors on my screen aren't terrible, most of the color/textures appear washed out and muted in comparison to other laptops I own. I've tried adjusting the brightness and calibrating the colors but it didn't fix the problem. I'm not sure what the problem could be. Thank you for your help.

Hey @crawford810 ,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand the colours on your notebook look muted.
Could you please tell me which notebook model you have and the installed operating system? For information on finding your product and model numbers click here: How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? To see which version of Windows you are using click here: Which Windows operating system am I running?
For an issue like this you will want to test an external monitor to see if the issue is coming from the display, the GPU, or from Windows.
You will want to make sure your GPU and BIOS are up to date. You can download the most recent drivers and BIOS at the HP - Drivers & Downloads website.
I look forward to your reply!

  • Hp pavilion dv6 laptop has a black screen problem.

    Hello,
I dont know how to fix my hp pavilion dv6 laptop.
The laptop is working, have the necessary sounds after i
turn it on,but the problem is that the screen stays always black
..I connect the lap top to tv screen or external monitor and it shows that everything is working properly.
The laptop may have hit a hard surface. The laptop worked well until about 1 week ago when I turned it on and the screen was hazy at first. I turned it off and turned it back on and the screen was completely black but still had the start-up sound. Someone suggested I see if it works on an external monitor and that worked.
Does anyone kow how I can fix the black screen of my hp pavilion dv6 laptop?
I do lots of study with it and have my exams coming up soon. I need my laptop to be mobile with me and not stationed in one place. Thanks in advance for the help!

    Hello Chi123,
I see that you are having problems with the display on your HP computer. I would like to help with this issue but I need some information.
Can you provide the model and product number of the computer? Here is a link that shows how to find that information.

  • Images Change Colors between monitors while the UI stays the same

Hey! Im having an issue where photoshop changes the colors when I move the window between my monitors, seen here: http://sta.sh/04y5s60vf3j This isnt due to the monitors themselves being different, it actually changes after a few seconds of moving it inbetween the monitors. The left one has been callibrated with a spyder 3 elite which I no longer have access to. I applied the file with windows color management instead of the spyder utility. The second one is new, and it is not callibrated by anything, but instead was done by hand with the built in brightness/contrast/custom RGB settings. Both of them are very close to eachother, enough so for my tastes. but when photoshop changes what the image looks like, it's causing problems. Interestingly enough, when I disable callibration for the monitor on the left, the image does not change colors between monitors, but instead always appears as it does on the right. but then they don't match up and the whole screen looked washed out because it's uncallibrated, so that doesnt do me any good. Another interesting thing to point out, is when this image is saved as a .JPG, and viewed with firefox the image appears exactly like the monitor on the LEFT (which is my main monitor) despite the left monitor being the one that is force changed. does anyone have any suggestions? It also appears that windows photoviewer is behaving the same way, though firefox does not. Meaning when I open an image in all 3 on the left monitor, they look the same, but when opened on the right monitor, windows photo viewer and photoshop both display the image as brighter and redder than firefox does. This is frustrating, because it seems photoshop is changing the image with my callibration on my left monitor to match what it looks like on the web, which it does. but it doesn't do this for the right monitor, or when the left is uncallibrated. Another issue I can see with this is even if the UI is the same shade of gray, the images are different between the monitors because of this change. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Alright! So I reread through all this, poked at some things on the internet, and I'm going to attempt to summarize what would be a good solution for all this (And it seems, it still won't be perfect, but to get myself into the best environment I can for not messing with images for an hour trying to make them look nice before I post them to the web. I painted something yesterday on the cintiq, popped it over to my laptop screen and it just looked washed out and terrible.)
    1. Get a X-rite EODIS3 i1 Display Pro, Callibrate laptop and cintiq. I do have the money to drop on something like this, especially if it's a time saver.
         Things I'm not sure about:
              a. There was a ton of complaints about the software not working when I checked reviews, but also a ton that said everything was great. most of them were mac users though.
              b. I'm not sure if problems would still be posed, even while calibrated, by me having a wide gamut monitor.
              c. I'm a terrible excuse for a human being and I think the colors showing up brighter on the wide gamut screen is pretty (I should just make my images this bright on a normal screen and there won't be any issues. >.>)
    2. Set Firefox to color manage (easy enough)
    3. Change my photoshop working space to sRGB (since they'll have been calibrated at this point)
    3. Accept the fact that most of the people who look at my work will be doing so on a monitor that is almost certainly uncalibrated, and I can't control what they will see on my screen, but I CAN control if the colors are -actually- what I want them to be on any properly calibrated device. which is probably the best way to go anyways.
    4. Make paintings, have fun.
Now, you two have been going on about all sorts of interesting things in here, and it seems that calibration issue run much much deeper than I ever thought. Do either of you have recommendations for how I should tweak this list of things to do or other things I can/ should do? I'm not currently a working professional, but if I have anything to say about it, I will be within a few years (I'm going to school for illustration and studying concept design on my own time) so it'd be useful for me to get into good habits now.

  • Color calibrating monitor

Hello, I am new to the pro photography/editing world and I am looking for recommendations for monitor color calibration systems.  I am currently using a 13 inch macbook air.  There are so many on the market I don't know where to start.  I am looking for something that can automatically adjust the calibration for whatever light I happen to be sitting in at the moment- perhaps something with a sensor?  I am not trying to break the bank.  I see that the Spyder4 and X-Rite are popular.  If you can give me your recommendations/model name that would be great!!

Not sure why you'd think this was an on-topic question for a Lightroom forum?
Not sure why you think correct display of your files is irrelevant? Are all hardware-related discussions off-topic? All discussions on color management? If you think that, I suggest you just stay out of those threads and concentrate on the threads you find relevant.
Meanwhile, I'll be happy to answer.
Generally, you have the right idea in that your working environment will influence your perception. But an automatic adjustment of your calibration introduces so many uncontrollable factors that it's practically unworkable. It will only confuse you. Some calibrators have an option to adjust display brightness automatically, but the general advice is to disable that.
Concentrate on controlling your environment as far as you can. It's much more important to tune your calibration targets so that you get a good match to printed output. Ideally, screen white point should be a visual match to paper white - and this is where the environment will influence your perception. Similarly for contrast/black point. Start at 120 cd/m² and 6500K, and a contrast range (if available) of around 350:1. Adjust as needed to get a match.
Some will probably say a laptop display is not worth calibrating at all. I disagree, but don't expect too much. One basic problem is that most laptop displays are TN-based with very restricted viewing angles, to the point where the top of the screen is too dark and the bottom washed out. But if you get a calibrator now you still have that if you decide to get a better monitor later.
To be specific, I'd recommend the x-rite i1 Display Pro at around $200. This is generally the best third-party calibrator currently on the market. A more inexpensive solution is the ColorMunki Display, which uses the same sensor but somewhat restricted software. The Spyders are good too, but not quite as reliable and consistent at the same price point.

  • The monitor colors were abnormal

My Mac air has an external monitor, Dell u2414h, connected through DP cable ( Mini-DP to DP). In these days, I encountered a monitor color issue, might be a bug or a hardware problem, maybe someone have this experience to confirm that, thanks in advance.
    the process:
    1. The Mac air connected to the external monitor, Both of the internal an external monitors are used normally;
    2. closed the Mac air lid, the external monitor was still opening at this time and the OS X system can be operated normally;
    3. I left the notebook to do other things;
    4. About five minutes later the external monitor went to sleep;
    5. More than one hour later, I came back, the OS X system was sleep, opened the lid;
    6. Both of the internal and external monitors' colors were abnormal, some application icons and the desktop wallpaper had red blocks; These red blocks on the desktop wallpaper didn't disappear automatcally, must to replace a new wallpaper;
    The system.log has "GPU hang:" and "Trying restart GPU ..." messages;
    The loginwindow crashed, and saved a crash report;

  • MacBook Pro, dual Monitor color shift with Photoshop CS4, OS 10.5.5

I'm observing a strange behavior: With PS CS3 i could just drag an image from
the laptop monitor to the external Eizo and the color would adjust instantly, with
consistent color (All monitors calibrated, no settings have changed). The same applies to Lightroom
2.0 too. Now when i do the same move with the same image opened in PS CS4 the color does not
adjust to match but stays the same and the result is a oversaturated image on the external monitor.
    Any thoughts? Thanks, Mark

It should adjust to the display the same as CS3.
Have you tried turning off OpenGL image display?
(it could be a bug, or a driver issue)

  • Connecting Color Correction Monitor To My G5 (Help Please)

Hello everyone. I'm getting ready to begin color correction on a DV feature I've just finished audio post on. I have a Macintosh dual 2Gig G5. It's an early G5 that has PC133 slots, however, and is NOT HD compatible or ready. I cannot use an HD video card (AJA, etc) or an HD monitor for cc - and simply cannot afford an AJA IO - so I'm going to work with SD. In the research I've done it looks like the JVC DT V1710CGU - a 17" monitor that is said to have decent critical color correction capabilities is what I might purchase (here's a link to one)
    http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt...s%3Den%26sa%3DN
How would I be able to get my video out to the monitor using my G5? The reason I ask this is because, simple as I thought it was, when I went to purchase the actual monitor and the tech tried to use it to see video from his laptop . . . it didn't work.
He plugged from the computer to the JVC monitor using a DVI to VGA adapter connected to a VGA to RGB cable (the DVI end of the adapter being connected to the computer) and connected that RGB end of the cable into the JVC.
He tried a lot of different monitor formats in his laptop to try to conform the computer's signal for the JVC, but nothing seemed to work. I myself have a Sony DVMC-DA2 analogue to digital media converter that I used to get video from the G5 to view on an external television set. The media converter is connected to the G5 via fire wire, and then connect to the tv using RCA cables, but the tech said that you DON'T want to connect the JVC monitor using RCA cables (composite . . . right?). He said use RGB cables (component).
Does anyone know, again, how to be able to get the JVC DT V1710CGU to output video from my G5 (Final Cut Pro specifically)?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Javier Calderon

Thank you much for the prompt reply, David. I really appreciate it.
I just realized right now - after reading your post and investigating, that is - that my Sony DVMC-DA2 has S-Video in and out. This seems that it would be sufficient then, no? So . . . what's the proper connection then? Let me know please if this is it:
Connect my Sony media converter to the G5 via fire wire. Go out of the media converter via S-Video and IN to the JVC color correction monitor . . . via . . . what? Does the JVC monitor have S-Video in?
Thanks again for your help, by the way. You've already clear me up a bit.
    Javier

  • Touchsmart monitor colors suddenly reverse

A few days after the trial period for Windows 8 expired I booted up to find that the monitor colors were reversed.  What was black was now white, etc.  I thought it was something Microsoft had done to provoke me to hurry up and buy 8, but after removing 8 and installing Linux Mint the problem continued.  Someone suggested that it might be the video card since, they claim, Touchsmarts tend to cause the video card to overheat.   Has anyone had this problem and how was it solved?
    The model is IQ504

  • Monitor Colors wrong following a re-install of 10.3

I've fixed this once, a year ago, but have forgotten how!
I have had to re-install 10.3 due to some other problems but with this fresh system, the monitor colors are not quite right. For example, the finder icon in the dock is purple, the label colors are all wrong, not only in color but have blocks of different color in them.
I've messed with display preferences but cannot fix it. As I said this happened when I upgraded to 10.3 from 10.2.8 a year ago and I fixed it. Looking at the display preferences on the system where the color is OK and this one, I can see no difference. Calibrating the monitor did not seem to help.
    Any ideas appreciated.

I haven't had this exact problem but on a couple of occasions, when my normal user setup wasn't behaving quite correctly, I started up from a new account, copied the preferences (HD/Users/UserAccount/Library/Preferences) to a new folder at the root level of my hard drive, restarted as my standard user, then used the preferences from the new account to overwrite those in my standard account. Sometimes you won't be able to overwrite them because they are in use; then just move the ones that can't be replaced to the trash, move the new ones to your user account preferences folder, restart and empty the trash.
    Hope this works for you.

  • LCD color display monitor

    I have a HP LCD color display monitor - product 20555SH249 Product # P8740AA
Model # HSTND 2171-A1.  Recently in the left hand upper corner a box has appeared saying   Luminance
has Contrast in red and Brightness (blue) another line. Please help me get rid of this as it is very annoying.
Can't click on it as can't get my cursor on it. If I leave the computer for a while it will go away but as soon as
I return and type anything it is back.

  • 2nd monitor color management: Ps v Lr

Please help me understand the following problem ... but first, my hardware:  Macbook Air (mid-2011) with OS X 10.8, with a NEC wide gamut P221W monitor connected as a secondary display.  The NEC display is calibrated with Spectraview and an X-rite eye-one display sensor.
I usually work with Lightroom 4 exclusively, but I will on occassion turn to Photoshop CS5 for working with layers.  I've configured Lr for using Ps as a alternate editor and Lr is supposed to create a PSD file, 16bit and embed ProphotoRGB as it working color space.  The problem is, these exported PSD images appear undersaturated on the NEC display ... but examining the PSD data implies PpRGB.  Ps is configured for AdobeRGB, but appropriately asks about the mismatch, and I select use PpRGB  These undersaturated colors are in contrast with how Lr displays the same image on the same monitor.  Also, if I put both images on the Macbook primary display (Lr in the background, Ps in front), the colors appear to be the same.  Also, if I quit both programs and open Ps only and then load the recent image, the colors will appear with correct saturation ...
I can only conclude that Lr interferes with Ps properly compensating via the NEC's display profile ... and therefore I'll need to close Lr when editing with Ps.  Has this behaviour been verified by anyone else?  Is there a remedy??
TIA & Cheerios from the Avalon

    >it shows the mismatch dialogue box: Embedded Adobe RGB 1998, Working: Monitor3-7-08.
Ow, this means you have Photoshop set up incorrectly. Go to Edit->Color settings and make sure that the top-profile (RGB) says adobeRGB. You should never have a monitor profile there except if you're a web designer.
    >DYP, you can change LR colour space to other than ProPhoto as default.
No you cannot. You can only change the default profile Lightroom uses to send to Photoshop. Lightroom ALWAYS uses a prophotoRGB-like working space internally for every picture.
    >I set it to Adobe RGB to sync with camera and PS.
If you shoot RAW, the in-camera setting does not matter and Lightroom will render as wide as prophotoRGB.
    >Would changing to ProPhoto colour space not cancel my calibrated monitor profile? Or am I misunderstanding the principles behind monitor calibration?
No, they have nothing to do with each other. Color managed apps automatically translate between their working space and the monitor profile. This capability is the basic meaning of being color managed. They get the information about the monitor profile from the OS. You never have to tell them about it. Photoshop just knows it. You do not have to set it up anywhere.

  • Dual-monitor color management?

So I've got a dual-monitor setup running OS 10.7 on a Mac Pro, and color management in Bridge CS5.1 on my second screen is a mess. Both monitors have been individually calibrated with a Pantone Huey Pro (not perfect, but generally pretty consistent across screens).
Viewing an image in Bridge on my first screen, I have no problem. But the same image, when viewed on my second screen, appears heavily oversaturated. When I open the image in Photoshop or Preview, the color is accurate and is consistent across both screens. The below image illustrates the problem: the colors shown correctly in Photoshop (foreground) and incorrectly in Bridge (background). The Creative Suite color settings in Bridge show the settings as "synchronized" with the "North American General Purpose 2" default.
I'm sort of out of my depth here when it comes to color management. Do I have something set wrong? Is this a Lion-related bug? Any help would be appreciated.

The way I have it set up is this: I have two synchronized windows, one on each of my two displays. In one I have a content panel, metadata, collections, etc. In the second window I just have a preview panel, supplying me with a full-screen (almost) preview of any thumbnail I select from the content panel in the other window.
Content (assuming thumbnails as well) panel preview on one display and the Preview panel preview on the other display are both being generated by one application and that is Bridge. Like I said above, I don't think, in fact I'm almost certain this is impossible for Bridge to pull off because of the dual matrices (mathematical formulas) written into each custom display profile that occupy the same video chip to calculate and control hue/saturation appearance in color managed images. Think of the complexity involved. Now Adobe is known for creating workflow miracles with their programming but I doubt they'ld be able to pull that off with Bridge.
Photoshop can pull this off having one image on one display and dragging to the other where it makes the adjustment on the fly. I've seen the quick shift that occurs doing this. But I don't think Bridge can do this because of it's caching structure. I hope an Adobe employee chimes in to correct me.
Now this dovetails into your mentioning forcing a display into the sRGB space during calibration and profiling of each display. This is not what happens doing a hardware calibration. I'm assuming you pick your target Luminance (120 cd/m2 +/-), Gamma (2.2. gamma-usually native) and Color Temp (6500K). It doesn't matter if you did anyway, but what the hardware calibrator does is measure each display's RGB colorant and density range and write the data into the final profile that allows applications like Colorsync Utility to display a 3D gamut model and color managed applications like Photoshop to show colors as intended.
Your display may be close to sRGB but never exact to it because sRGB is a synthetic (made up) color space. Your display has physical anomalies that must be measured and written into the profile to properly display the intended appearance of color referencing the CIELAB color space which is based on human vision. Everything about computerized color in a color managed workflow is based on mapping color to display properly according to gamut size. A computer is a dumb machine and has to be told everything using math. You actually do have to draw it a map to follow.
Bridge's Preview pane looking different may be either referencing the other display profile or is stuck referencing the other and what's happening is the equivalent of Assigning one of the display profiles to the Preview like you can do to an image in Photoshop. Try it. Take your image and convert to one of your display profiles and assign the other display profile to it. Check if you see a slight shift. If Bridge's main Preview pane is stuck showing pixels mapped to (synthetic) sRGB then the same assigning of the display profile effect takes place.
And/or the thumbnails aren't color managed and the Preview pane is and maybe a bit of the above is compounding things. If you aren't confused now can you imagine trying to mathematically write the thumbnail previews on one display and the main Preview on the other both controlled by one application on top of caching and managing a large image database?
Keep the Preview pane and Content pane on one display. Edit your images in Photoshop/ACR/Lightroom on the primary display.
The Color Settings where you select North American Prepress...Web...General Purpose...etc. only applies to how images are handled and previewed that don't have an embedded profile. Are your jpeg images embedded with a profile? If so then this is not the issue. This doesn't apply to Raw captures because their previews are generated by the default Adobe Camera Raw settings.
Omke, no more Version Cue? That's welcome news!

  • ****yellowish color shift in LIGHTROOM: disabling monitor color profile in LR?

    Hi all,
I would love to know if there is a way to ***disable the monitor (color) profile**** in LR.
    WHY?
Cause all my pictures seems yellowish in LR, and not anywhere else (firefox, i.e, photoshop, xnview, etc...)
I solved the same problem in PHOTOSHOP, this way :
when loading images in photoshop, during starting up, I got this very message :
" The monitor profile 'LG L245WP' appears to be defective. Please rerun your monitor calibration software. "
    with two possible options :
            "Ignore profile" or "use anyway"
Then if I use "Ignore profile" everything is fine!
If I select "use anyway" --> Wrong, all my pictures are yellowish.
That's why I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW, pleaaaaaase if I can do the same in LR.
I personnally didn't find, or what else I should do ?!  Knowing that I do not have a ...too expensive!... calibration tool , and my monitor is a LG, L245WP.
----> Thanx sooo much for your help.
I would love to use LR, but this way I can't...
    >kiwiii

    NB : I read 2 threads here , but didn't find my solution : http://forums.adobe.com/thread/414524
                                                                              and : http://forums.adobe.com/thread/415180
NB : in one of these I downloaded this RGB picture :
           http://forums.adobe.com/servlet/JiveServlet/download/2161301-16291/Farbprofil-Kontrolle_re dgreenblue.jpg
where mostly the white in LR appears to be yellow.
Looks fine anywhere else, and in photoshop, if "Ignore profile" is selected

    DdeGannes, Sean : thanx.
I went to my vista profil , added a profile in relation with my screen... but then which on should I select , between the several sRGB options :
    - WCS profile :  sRGB     a file named wsRBG.cdmp
    or
    - ICC profile : sRGB IEC 61966-2.1 ?
( of course I have many more... but....none of the others are sRGB profiles )
Then have you both a calibrator, and you both did all the color "chain" from CAMERA to PRINTER ?
I am asking.... cause all these adjustments + buying a calibrator seems tough to me to manage/achieve.
    You know :  I'm not a professional ...
To me, non - pro, it looks even more dangerous to do so than leaving evreything in default mode & presets...
    Should I do something wrong...
    NO?
Moreover I mean : this is odd that my computer , or/AND (?) screen ,
doesn't have a "default setting" which would be suitable in LR , at least which no colour shift !
( I just change my LG screen mode to 5600K etc... and still I have the same yellowish gap in LR )
Why would my color management just be wrong in LR or Photoshop ?
Doesn't this light something I miss to you both, maybe professionals?
If I read you fine, + the other website... everything is kind of automatic now in every softwares... even xnview, firefox, (not i.e.) etc...
so why just LR + photoshop, would be mistaken on my computer,
and Firefox, Xnview, CANON softwares, Painter, ... all show the right profile & colors ???? This is sooooooo weird....to me.
I mean I got the the point that my whole color management is unshure...
but it nevertheless it should BE THE SAME through all my softwares... NO ?
Isn't there a general ADOBE setting somewhere, that might be bugged instead?
I still think , according to that, that we are missing something.
Sorry to bother you with my thoughts....
    kiwiii ( paris - france )
ps/ Does really Photoshop detect the changes I would do directly on my screen ?
Because when I switch from sRGB, to 6500 K , 9300K or user... on my screen,
I STILL HAVE the PHOTOSHOP ERROR message :
" The monitor profile 'LG L245WP' appears to be defective. Please rerun your monitor calibration software. "
I mean PHOTSHOP doesn't seem to notice (give a damn) on any change I make !?
As for the rest of my computer I never changed any COLOR PROFILE anywhere... So how do people do without a calibrator to use LR ?
          Is it possible at least?
Is my screen (i thought so good) totally bugged, if none of my color profile is "ok" for photoshop & LR ?
THANX AGAIN FOR READING and helping me...

  • LR + Monitor color profile

I'm using Windows XP and I'm using a Pantone Huey Pro to calibrate my monitor. After the Huey does the calibration routine, it'll load the profile it created and does so every time Windows starts, which I'm guessing is how most calibration systems work. It also assigns the profile it created as the default profile of the monitor automatically.
From what I've read here, LR uses the Windows monitor profile as it's display profile. So I'm guessing that this means LR applies the profile to the images when it displays them.
Since the Huey software also applies the same profile to the entire display, won't images displayed in LR receive a double application of the same monitor profile?
I'm asking this because I noticed that the sRGB jpegs I export from LR seem to have duller colors and any sRGB jpegs that look correct in other non-CM aware viewers become oversaturated inside LR.

Thanks Micheal, but your reply doesn't make sense to me. Why would the calibration software not apply the profile as precisely as possible, when it's job is to make the colors of the display look correct for any application.
Actually I don't think Windows by itself does anything with the profiles you assign to the devices. Changing the profiles in the properties of the monitor doesn't seemed to affect the display at all. I think assigning the profiles to devices in Windows is just meant to be a centralized way for CM aware apps find out what profiles a device uses. It seems to take an extra layer of software like the ones that comes with some hardware calibrators to actually apply the profile to the display.
What I think the problem here is that originally a monitor profile is probably supposed to be used only by CM aware apps like PS to display it's images with correct colors. The colors of rest of the desktop would remain uncorrected. However, the software that comes with some calibrators now will actively apply this profile to the entire display/desktop, which is not what PS expects. Thus I think in my case the monitor profile is getting applied doubly when I use PS/LR.
Could anyone definitively tell me if my assumptions are right or wrong?
