Pavilion no audio after windows and HP updates

A good Memorial Day to all.
I have an HP Pavilion G7.  Four days ago Windows pushed out an update and audio worked afterward.  Next day (three days ago), HP had an "important" update that kept popping up so my wife downloaded that update and installed.  Since then, no audio from the PC or working on my external speaker.
I did a system restore rolling back one week  - no change.
I reinstalled the HP audio driver - no change.
No audio now, totally DOA.  BTW, the slider bars do show audio being processed but not heard.
I'm guessing the Windows update or the HP update (whatever they were) directly caused this.
Any help appreciated.
Noiseless in St Pete...

I would check the Windows updates and HP updates.
You can see when tMicrosoft Windows updates were installed by accessing Programs and Features and then selecting view installed features.   Uninstall them one at a time.
You can check on the HP updates by accessing the log that is in the HP Support Assistant to see what was installed.
Best regards,
erico

Most likely you need to install the graphics driver for W8.1 from your PC's support and driver page.

  • IDT High Definition (HD) Audio Driver problem after windows 8.1 update 1.

Hello. I have HP Probook 4730s. After I installed Windows 8.1 update 1 the sound driver stopped working properly. When I want to play some music, video or even system sounds, sound appears after 1-2 minutes. At that time HDD usage is 100% cause of windows audio device graph isolation. I’ve installed that IDT High Definition (HD) Audio Driver from HP’s driver support site, but that’s not working. As I see in device manager driver’s release date is 24.10.2012. I think, it’s too old for Windows 8.1. Can you help me? Is there any other newer version of that sound driver? Also I’m sending two pictures where are HDD usage and driver release date.

  • G510 Windows 8.1 Pro X64 Conexant Audio Driver Error and Driver Update Request

When are we to expect some updates in the drivers for G510, specifically for both graphics (Intel and AMD)
Also I am using G510S's Lenovo Power Management for Windows 8.1(running with no issues) as Windows 8 version was not compatible and there is no Win8.1 version.
And there is an update available for Conexant Audio in windows update and after the update when ever I play music, a few seconds in the Audio Device stops(a red cross on volume icon) and then troubleshooter automatically runs and fixes the audio device and audio comes back.
Also I would like to request that you bring back Dobly Advanced Audio v2 that was available with WINDOWS 8 version of the driver. It was just much more convienient and I liked its graphics equilizer much better.

  • MSI GT70 audio not working with hmdi after windows 8.1 update

When I connect my laptop to the TV, the video comes out fine, but the audio for the TV does not show up in playback devices. It worked fine with windows 8, but after the windows 8.1 update it stopped.
I have tried updating realtek drivers, but it still doesn't show up. updating other drivers also doesn't work. plugging the cable into the computer then booting it up also doesn't work like it did for other people. This is really making me mad... any help would be appreciated.

Pah, no probs to my ext. monitor speakers via HDMI, GT70 0NE, Win 8.1.
Have you tried assigning HDMI one on audio tab as default and see if sound will come out to tv? if so then that was the problem.

  • No audio after windows update

this goes for the hp a1320n as well as the a1324n and probably for more.  these models have a realtek high definition (hd) audio device with front panel inputs/outputs.
i had an issue where i lost sound after some windows updates.  there seems to be multiple scenarios that i believe are all related.  ultimately what would happen was that i would attempt to get sound out of the speaker, either by playing a song, or just trying to configure windows sounds, or the realtek sound manager test program and no sound would eminate.  it looked like it was playing the sound, but nothing audible.
i tried the usual uninstall/reinstall of drivers - same.  i tried reloading various operating systems as well.  i could get it working, then after some windows updates, i would lose it again.  of course, hp "tech support" was no more help than a 6 year old who has been shown a picture of a computer.
what i realized today was that when i had something plugged in both the front and the back, i got sound!  wtf.  anyway, i read some posts that suggested disabling the "auto-jack detection" - same.  i uninstalled the driver, shut down, removed the white aux cable and green input/output cable from the motherboard, rebooted, let windows detect the driver - still no sound.  however, when i shut down, reinstalled the cables then booted windows without messing around with the driver again, alas i had sound!  f'ing windows and hp.  i've been working on this for about a month now.  hope this helps for anyone else who's experiencing similar issues.

If WU breaks your audio again, it is probably a new Realtek driver that is installing from there. I would turn off driver updating in WU. You can also use Device Manager to rollback the driver which works most of the time.Uninstalling it and rebooting only installs the newer one again.

I see that you are getting a 'No Audio Output device installed' and I will be happy to help. This could be cause by an issue during the upgrade. The upgrade process should have automatically created a restore point to go back to Windows 8 and then try upgrading again.
You can try a Hard Reset to see if a clean restart resolves the issue. You can also try Refreshing your Windows and see if that helps at all. Let me know how it goes.

  • No sound after Windows 8.1 Update

I updated my laptop ( a HP Pavilion 14-f027cl ) to Windows 8.1 a month and a half ago. I noticed that following immediately after the update I was having trouble with sound.
First, it was Google Chrome that would mute itself. I would have to go to the sound mixer and manually unmute Chrome. (Chrome would mute itself on its own).
And Today (December 22nd) My whole laptop just went mute. I can hear nothing. Nothing from Chrome, IE, iTunes, no apps, nothing! I went through every possible troubleshooting tutorial and nothing helped.
    PLEASE HELP ME!

More often than not when a device isnt working it is because the driver has become corrupted. Re-installing a fresh copy should help

  • Unable to boot from ODD or USB after windows 8.1 update on P850-31L

    Hi
I just updated a P850-31L to windows 8.1 from windows 8 through the windows store.
Before the update I was able to boot from a USB drive by pressing F12 during start up.
After the update I was no longer able to boot from the USB drive. Selecting the USB drive by changing the boot order in BIOS setup via F2 or by pressing F12 no longer works.
Booting from ODD is also no longer possible.
The BIOS version is 6.70 and does not allow secure boot to be disabled. However the DVD and the USB stick I tried are signed Ubuntu 12.10 which worked prior to the upgrade. Fastboot in windows 8.1 is disabled.
This would then appear to be a bug in the Toshiba BIOS? Or has the windows 8.1 updated the BIOS or the EFI boot partition in such a way as to override the BIOS setting? Really stuck here, doesn't seem to be much information about.
Any thoughts or assistance would be very much appreciated!
    Thanks
    Michael
Update: I just tried booting from the Toshiba windows 8 recovery DVD and this no longer works either.

    OK I fixed this.
Firstly it's worth noting that it is possible to to disable secure boot in the 6.70 BIOS.
However this option is only available when the user password is not set in the security menu.
After enabling or disabling the password a reboot is required to make the secure boot enable/disable option either available or unavailable.
That's good I suppose as I guess it may prevent secure boot from being disabled when the machine is running. However this does not appear to have been related to this issue.
I selected the 'reset to factory defaults' option on the exit menu.
The machine was then able to boot from USB and DVD. The boot order was also respected.
Perhaps the windows 8.1 upgrade somehow invisibly corrupted the BIOS settings. Or maybe it was just a stranage co-incidence that the BIOS corrupted itself during the install. Either way that factory reset fixed it.

  • After Windows 8.1 update Lenovo L420 has half the WLAN speed

After the Windows 8.1 update my L420 WLan only works with 55 MBit max. In Windows 8.0 it was between 120 and 150 Mbit. I have the 1x1 11b/g/n W-LAN-PCI-Express-Half-Mini-Card-Adapter. Lenovo L420 is 7854-4LG.
The WLAN driver is a Microsoft driver as in Windows 8 but a newer version.
How can I get the Windows 8 driver back?
Why doesn't provide Lenovo a driver as with Windows 7?
Is Lenovo not testing any of their Laptops for compatibility?
    Any help?
    Michael
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I found a solution in the meantime: I loaded  the driver for the RTL8188CE chipset from the REALTEK site.
Now I'm back between 120 and 150 MBit.

  • Slow after windows 8.1 update

I have recently done the windows 8.1 update on my laptop and now for some reason when ever i boot the laptop up it takes forever to load. before the update the laptop booted in about 17s but after it takes more like 30s. i tried solving this problem myself but haven’t had much luck. what i have found that if i uninstall or disable my Intel HD graphics 4000 card it seems to solve the problem but i need my graphics card on the play some games etc. so my thought is it must be a hardware problem or a driver problem.
    Can anyone help??

Hello MooreMoose, welcome to the HP forums.
It appears that your notebook is slow too start up after an update. I will try to help you with this.
Start by doing a clean boot. This will have you disable start-up items and services that aren't essential to have running when the computer first starts.
This could also help in determining if an application is behind the slowness. If the behavior continues, then it would be something updated or the OS. If this is the case, please start by doing a system restore. I recommend doing a restore from safe mode, to ensure it goes through correctly.
I will leave you to start with this, please let me know how everything goes.
Thank you for posting on the HP forums.

  • Image Deployment Changes Windows Update from Windows and MS Update to Just Windows Only

Before capturing an image I make sure that Windows update is set to update "Windows and other products from Microsoft Update".  After and capturing and deploying the image I notice on the client machine it has been set to Windows only.  There
is nothing in the TS that I know of that would switch this....I am not running any updates or anything in the TS.  Anyone have any ideas on this?  Thanks in advance

Sysprep changes this setting before the image is captured. This is normal behaviour.

  • Occasional soft sound after Windows 8.1 update

    Hi,
I have a strange problem. I updated to Windows 8.1 about two weeks ago. For about a week now I have noticed that occasionally my sound drops. I usually watch shows or something on say 20 volume. The sound suddenly drops and I have to turn it all the way up to 100 to get the same volume as on 20. I reboot my PC (which takes quite long now. seems I should have not updated as it came with a lot of bugs...)  I did not make any changes myself and did not install new sound drivers.
Also, my charm bar stops working so that also takes a reboot to fix....
    I am running Windows 8.4 64-Bit on an HP Envy 15 j063ei.
Has anyone else seen this, or know how to fix it? I am hoping there is a way to fix it that does not help refreshing my Windows because I really do not want to install all my apps and games again. I already had to do that once before.

    HI Gan_Javi,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP ENVY 15-j063ei Notebook and issues after an update. You might need to check for updates from Windows. Here is how to do that.
Click the Windows key and type change PC settings, and click Update and recovery.
click Check now, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates. You can also do this from the HP site under Detect my product click on the Find now button. If updates are found, click Install updates. To make sure all updates are completed restart your computer twice.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.
