Pavilion p7-110c blank screen on start-up

My Pavilion. P7-1107c has a blank screen on start-up. There is a white flashing underscore mark in the upper left corner.  I have tried the f-10 keystroke recommendation with no success. Lights and fans are operating, and the cable is securely connected. There is a one-second display on the monitor of the hp logo (the hand with the building blocks) a few seconds after start-up, which immediately disappears.

Hi,
Your PC is listed as coming with Windows 7 64bit - if this is correct, try the following.
If you don't already have one, use another PC to create a Windows 7 Rescue CD.  Download the ISO from the link below.
Windows 7 64bit
You should use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO to a CD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.  Once created, or if you already have this, insert the CD into the PC and restart to boot from it.  Select the Repair option.
Select the 'Repair your Computer' option and follow Option 2 in the guide on the link below to run Start-up Repair – you may need to run this 2 or 3 times.

If the above fails to help, make a note of any error messages you may get during the procedure and include them with your next post.

  • HP Pavilion g4 notebook-- Blank screen at start up

had the monitor screen  replaced, did not solve the problem.  I connect to a stand alone monitor the computer works fine.  Using Windows 7 Home.  Any ideas?

With it connecting to an external monitor and working just fine, it would indicate an issue with either the lcd or the video cable. Usually, a completely black screen is the lcd panel itself. But you said you had it replaced...
Go ahead and boot up with the external monitor. Once you are booted up, press Win+P. That should bring up the shortcut for your projector screens. Select Laptop only. Could be a setting just didn't get back to normal.
If that doesn't work, I would take it back to whoever replaced it. Did they test it before giving it back to you? Did it work at all after having the screen replaced? I do this kind of work all the time and would lay 10 to 1 odds still that it is the lcd panel. If it hasn't worked at all, I would have them double check to make sure everything plugged back in correctly, done that a time or two... If they are positive the screen is good, change out the cable. In my experience, one of those has to be the issue.

  • Macbook pro: blank screen on start up? help!

my macbook pro had a blank screen on start up. I tried restarting it and nothing worked. I could hear the computer running, but nothing would show up on the screen. When I would shine a light at the screen on start up I could faintly see the apple, but after startup it would go completely black. Then, off a whim, I tried plugging it in to our tv via an HDMI cord and it shows up now on the TV but still nothing on the computer display. How do I fix this?

  • Blank Screen after start-up chime, won't start

I'm rather perplexed as to what's happened to my PowerBook. I'll run throught it
    PowerBook 12" 1.33 768
    Background:
I've just updated it to 10.4.4, which caused it to get stuck at the Apple symbol and spinning wheel. I had to restart in single user mode and run applejack, restart again and it was fine.
Recently the PowerBook started to not wake from sleep, I'd have hold down the power button then restart it. I thought it had done teh same thing today, but this time it makes the start-up chime but gets no further than a blank (dark, black) screen.
I tried inserting the Mac OS X CD and start up holding down the C key, but still same blank screen (with the added benefit that I'm now unable to remove the CD)
I tried plugging it into an external monitor, but nothing.
I've tried resetting the Preference RAM and the PMU. With some limited success. On occasion after resetting the PRAM, turning it off then back on, it starts with something like a extra blow of air from the fan and white blank screen instead of a black one. It then won't turn off at all, the only way is to pull the power and the battery.
I've noticed that when the ac adapter is plugged in and i've the white screen it flashes very quickly, orange.
I tried starting in Tartget disc mode connected to an iMac, the disc doesn't appear.
I tried starting up with an external firewire drive attached, nothing.
I've tried starting holding the keys for open firmware mode, nothing.
I've removed the AirPort card, no change.
I removed the extra 512mb RAM with no change.
The screen is clearly working, has anyone any ideas how to get it started?
Any help would be appreciated, it's a second hand PowerBook and so has no AppleCare.
    Cheers
    Stuart

I had the EXACT same problem happen to me, Stuartea71. My PowerBook crashed on the on Feb. 4th and I still can't figure it out. I had just dowloaded the 10.4.4 update, bought iLife 06, and ordered a new battery.
I tried every single thing that you did above. I finally called customer support, and walked me through a few things which I had already tried, but she finally pin pointed something in disk utility that I missed. My disk would not mount. In red letters it said "failing." She told me that was a internal HD problem that needs to be fixed by a certified tech.
I did something I'd never done before. I put my HD to sleep to optimize battery performance. I work with podcasts and downloaded a large file. Unfortunately I forgot my battery setting. I chalk it up as a lesson learned, and just bit the bullet and ordered a MacBook Pro.
BTW... if you all customer service they basically read directly from the Apple Website. I paid $49 dollars for someone to tell me my mac was broken and send it in.

  • How to avoid blank screen when starting?

When starting my mac book air, it only shows a blank screen, any suggestions to get back to normal?

    Hi Daniel,
By blank do you mean that the screen is black? Is it gray? Is it blue? The word "blank" is vague when trying to determine and isolate startup issues.

  • IMac blank screen at start up, just fan whirl.

Well I've got myself a bit of a problem, my computer is usually left on all the time with the odd restart here and there, anyway it got turned off today while I was out of the house and now it's stopped working.
Simply put, after the startup chime there is nothing but a blank screen, no lights on the keyboard or monitor, none of the start up key combinations will do anything so I can't even open the disk tray to try a Tiger boot dvd.
After scanning these forums I learnt that the PMU may need resetting, so I did that, the actual pressing of the PMU didn't move it much so I hope I pressed hard enough, and turned it back on agin only to be met by that same blank screen.
So is my faithfull iMac G4 dead?
    iMac G4 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Try things in Apple doc.#106464 for your startup issue.
Also, try using Disk Utility to repair your startup disk (hard drive) as shown in Dr.Smokes Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption. Smokes link will help walk you thru it.
Let us know if Disk Utility reports any problems and what they are.
    Cheers!

  • Pavilion G6-2264ca blank screen - BIOS corrupted?

Hello, I've been having problems with my G6, it's about a year old and suddenly the bottom half of the screen was pink and green colors for about a day, after that then whenever I booted it, the regular image would flash on the screen for a second and then go black, and now it just stays black. When I press the power button, the wifi and power LED's come on and I hear the DVD drive start up as normal, but I'm not sure if it goes beyond that because all I see is a black screen.
    I tried:
    -Hard reset
    -Reseat RAM
-Unplug one stick/other stick/both sticks of RAM, unplug HDD, all of the above
-Win+B when booting to recover BIOS, nothing seems to happen but it does give me a 2 blink notification on my caps lock, which supposedly means a corrupted BIOS?
-Tried recovering BIOS via bootable flash drive (Trying both wincrisis and PheonixTool methods)
-Swapped motherboard out for one I bought online, STILL gives me the same problem and error code (2 blinks).
Could it be an extremely rare coincidence that both are corrupted, or do you think it's something else?
    Help is appreciated!
(Or if anything, does anyone know how to view your whole hard-drive with another computer? I hooked it up to my desktop and I could only see Public, Default, and Admin under Users and they were all empty in both Windows and Linux, even when I tried to take ownership with windows!)

    Hello derf321,
I see that you're having an issue with the notebook loading to a blank screen. I will try to help you with this.
Reading over your post, you've done the troubleshooting for beep/blink codes. It is possible that there is other faulty hardware.

  • Satellite L450D - blank screen at start-up

    Hi
my laptop shows a blank screen totally black on start up the hard drive light is not flashing but I can hear the fan.
    Suggestions welcomed

Sounds like a serious hardware problem.
You can check if the issue is related to the display or graphic chip.
Connect external monitor and check if something would be visible on the 2nd monitor.
In case nothing would be visible on the external monitor, your graphic chip (maybe motherboard) is affected

  • Hp Omni 100 5050 blank screen on start up

2 days ago I put my PC in sleep mode and when I went to get back on it was unresponsive with mouse and keyboard. The light near the power button was on, but I powered down and powered back up and PC powers up, but now the light near power button is not working and neither my keyboard or mouse. The light is on where power cord is plugged in back of PC and where you can insert a CD/DVD light working. I have tried the Bios resetting from the forums troubleshooting no go. Power cord good and tested keyboard on another device and that is working. Not sure what else I can do? Any suggestions on possible fixes would be great! Thank you

  • HP pavilion dv7-6c21nr blank screen

Please Help! My husbands Hp dv7 screen won't show up. The computer itself works just fine and I have been able to use the computer via the HDTV we have but I need his computer screen to start working again so I can do my quizzes and give the kids back the TV. The day before the computer was working fine and now the screen refuses to show up on the computer screen. I even downloaded and installed the new BIOS and it's still not working. I'm hoping we don't have to send his computer in to be fixed and there is quick solution to the problem

    Hello jschronce,
I see that you are having display issues with your HP computer. I have a couple of suggestions that may help with the issue. Here is a link with troubleshooting steps to correct common display issues. Follow the steps in the link and it may correct the issue.
The first step I would suggest is testing to see if the screen stays blank when inside the BIOS. This would let you know if it is a hardware or software problem.
Follow these steps to enter the BIOS of the computer.
    Power the computer off
Power it on and immediately start tapping "F10"
This should open the BIOS utility on the computer
If you are unable to get this screen on the laptop display that means it is an issue with the screen itself. Since the computer is working on an external display the graphics card should be fine.

  • Imovie 09 - blank screen on start up

Brand new issue. Never had a problem with imovie before.
Recently updated to newest version 8.0.3 (802).
Now whenever I open imovie I get a blank screen. Tool bar is present at the top but I cannot see any of the work areas until I click new project. Then it seem to appear from the top right corner. Only to disappear again to the top right. I thought it had something to do with expose or having a firewire drive plugged in. Anyone have a similar problem? HELP? any advice will be appreciated!

Its almost as though the program is fully active. But it's sucked out of view.
I'm able to see the work area if I hit the "show all windows" or F3 on my apple keyboard. But as soon as I click the window it gets yanked into the top right of the screen, gone from my view.
I was able to get half the work area to stay in view long enough to export my events to an external HD I'm anticipating not being able to use the program.
This is sooo frustrating because I've used imovie since forever and NEVER had a problem like this. I've run anti-virus, checked screen-size settings, un-installed and re-installed imovie, then updated still nothing.

  • MBP with solid state drive blank screen at start up

    Hello,
I plugged in a USB 3 drive last night, the cursor changed shape into a blurring rectangle about 3 cursors wide that looked like a slot machine and wouldn't do anything else. I shut the lid, opened up and same. Shut it down and it won't get past a blank screen. It won't go into target mode.
MDP 13 inch with retina display Solid state drive. Help?
    Mark

I took the non optical drive MBP into Genius Bar at Apple Bridgewater, NJ. The guy was very well trained in how to make a logic board crash seem normal. It was applaudable. Seriously. Really good service. "Mind if I plug this into our system?", "Hmm, Let me try this drive" "Well, it did get on our system, let me run this diagnostic". "Look, your hard drive is there, that's a good sign".
Me "Yes, but what is that red check mark next to power + - 5 volts?"
Him, "Yes, do mind if I take this in the back and look inside?"
    Me, "Sure".
On his return," So the inside looks very clean, no problems there but this looks like it  might be something that we would like to send to our repair facility in Tennessee. You see, if we put in one part and it doesn't fix it, we'd have to wait for another one. So we like to send these to a place that has all of the parts"
I got it back in 4 days. New logic board, new SSD. Ah, the joys.
Thanks for the responses, especially the SMC info and the PRAM reminder.
