Pavilion Slimline DVD drives and eject wire...

I tried to replace the DVD drive on my Pavilion Slimline with an HP dvd1270i DVD drive. Had no problems installing it until I tried to plug the eject wire to a plug on the new DVD drive. Problem is, there's no plug on this drive to attach the eject wire to. The DVD drive that originally came with the Slimline does have this plug. Can someone recommend a DVD drive for the Slimline that does have a plug for the eject wire? Or is there a way to transfer the plug from the old drive to the new drive? Thanks in advance...

I have similar problem on my micro PC case from HP
CD rom tray has not mechanical device for ejecting media but electrical switch instead.
There is no chance to reach eject button on DVD ROM, because it's hidden under doors on the case.
And that {Content Removed: Language Filter Evasion}non standard HP connector for opening CD used on case is not compatible with any DVD ROM I can find in my local store including HP products.
And nobody knows anything about that.

    Hi
    a. You are using Cheap media as Memorex, NoName etc DVDs - I only use Verbatim
    b. You use a DL-DVD or DVD+/-RW type of media - Old Macs can not use DL-DVDs - I only use DVD-R
    c. Your DVD-burner needs a cleaning - Cleaning DVD without liquid but the brush type
    d. Is there OK free space on Your Start-Up (Macintosh HD) hard disk - I never go less than 25Gb free.

  • My CD/DVD drive automatically ejects every disc I put in.

    Hi!
I have an Mac Book 15" - Late 2011 / OX 10.9.2  8 Gig RAM AND 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 Processor. My CD/DVD drive automatically ejects every disc I put in immediately. I can't figure out why it's doing this as till December 2013 it was doing fine? I had to reinstall OX and Maverics as my Laptop was lost and recovered and I had actioned erase all data.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

If you suspect it could be the latter, you may just have to replace the optical drive, or add an external one that supports Mac OS X utility booting, and not use possible rootkit CDs again.

  • Macbook DVD drive repeats eject sequence even when empty

Giving an old macbook (first model, white, 2006) away to a friend. He wanted Windows7 on it (don't ask ) so I got a copy from him and installed. Decided to use the bootcamp of Snow Leopard above Leopard, since Windows7 wasn't released yet when Leopard was released. Still I was a bit ambivalent as I didn't know if it would be suited to the rather old hardware of the macbook. All seemed to go well but after installation of the drivers of the Bootcamp CD I ejected the dvd drive and it started acting weird. What it does now is it keeps ejecting the drive, whether there's a cd in there or not. When I inject a cd (or dvd, no difference), I have to wait for the eject/load sequence to play out since it's locking the cd drive in between. When the cd/dvd is in, the drive won't read it, instead it will rumble a bit and eventually (about 20 seconds) spit out the CD.
Seems like a rather small coincidence that the drive, after all these years, would fail at this exact moment in time.... thinking there's something else to blaim but not sure how to proceed. What are your tips?

Nobody have any ideas or suggestions as to what steps I might undertake to solve this? Anything is helpful, thanks!

  • Loss of DVD drive and Infrared port on new iMacs

    Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone else has run into this issue.  I teach CPR classes and sometimes when a client doesn't have the proper audio-visual equipment, I will bring my 2009 iMac to play the course DVD on.  Thanks to the infrared remote, I can pause and play as needed without having to be right next to the computer. Well, as with all things, my older iMac is about ready to put out to pasture.  The issue I'm having is that when I looked at the newer iMacs in the store as a replacement, there's no DVD drive and no infrared port or remote!  Same price but less features!
What are my options here?  I thought about buying an external DVD superdrive but then I have no way of operating it from afar.  Also, the hardware (infrared port) for the Apple remote has been removed too.  Has anyone else run into this?  Aside, from purchasing a refurbished 2009 model iMac, how would I continue to be able to use my new iMac to play my course DVDs??

If you want to control your new iMac remotely and you own a mobile iDevice, there are remote apps you can use on both your iMac and iDevice.
These apps work over Wifi and/or Bluetooth.
Apple has its own remote app simply called Remote.
Another, which I use and is very comprehensive remote app, is called Rowmote Pro by a developer called Regular & Rhythm.
If you want complete and total remote control access to your Mac, look at Splashtop Remote.
There is also a dedicated WifI and/or Bluetooth remote for Macs and iDevices by a company called Satechi.
    Found here.
    http://www.amazon.com/Satechi-MediaRemote-Bluetooth-Multi-Media-Control/dp/B0082 4948U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1391729056&sr=8-1&keywords=Satechi+remote
All of these options work with an external CD/DVD optical drive.
I use Rowmote Pro helper on my 2009 iMac and I use both my iPad and iPod Touch as the actual Rowmote Pro remotes to control my iMac.

  • XBOX HD DVD drive and the Mac mini?

I hooked up the HD Dvd drive and it is recognized in both the Apple side and windows boot camp. I've tried both powerdvd ultra and windvd8 on the windows side to get the HD disc's to play but it says something about the video card not being supported when I try powerdvd, and when I try windvd it acts like it wants to play but does nothing at all. Has anyone got the xbox HD dvd drive to work with the mini and if so how?
oh...I have the mac mini Intel 1.66 duo upgraded to 2gb of ram.
    Thanks in advance

The Mac mini video chip (the Intel GMA 950) apparently does not support HDCP. There is a free tool from CyberLink (the authors of PowerDVD) to show if your computer is good enough to play HD DVD or Blu-Ray see http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/support/bdhd_support/diagnosis.jsp
Having run this myself, I can confirm it reports that the Mac mini video chip does not support HDCP. In theory you might be able to use VGA instead of DVI and still play HD DVD disk.
The above however applies only if you are running Windows on your Mac. While it is possible to plug an XBox 360 HD DVD drive in to a Mac running Mac OS X, because Apple are still prevaricating over whether they will support HD DVD, or Blu-Ray or neither they have not as yet released any software to play such disks even if you can plug a drive in.
I have seen reports that you can use the XBox drive on a Mac to play ordinary DVDs but it is not possible (yet) to do anything more than that.
Right now, not a single Mac model supports HDCP (nor do the Apple Cinema displays). There is a small possibility that Apple might be able to release a firmware upgrade at some point to address this.
*Really Apple, you are falling further and further behind. Not only do you not do HDCP, not only do you not do HD DVD or Blu-Ray, but QuickTime cannot do a decent job of subtitles, or surround sound, or multiple audio tracks. And all this from a company (Apple) supposedly synonymous with multimedia.*
Yes, the TV/Movie studios are idiots, yes DRM is a stupid idea, but come on Apple get a move on.

    HI,
did your friend installed the XP from a MS Cd or from the Toshiba recovery CD?
At my Toshiba notebook the autoplay section is also setted to Music file and works properly!
When did this failure occured for the first time? Did you used the MS System recovery option at Start - Accessories - system prog. - System recovery
Perhaps the backsetting of your system solve the problem!
You can also check if a firmware update is available for your drive! (If it is a Toshiba drive go to http://www.toshiba-europe.com/storage/index.asp?nav=HOM&page=HOM&frame=home

  • Dvd drive wont eject - using windows 7 - G50-70 i5

Im having problems with my dvd drive.  Have seen a few similar posts on here but I cant get anything to work.  The drive did initially work, but now I have installed windows 7, it wont eject.  The drive can read discs.  When I press the eject button, the light comes on, and I get the usual noise of the drive, but it wont eject.  It will eject using a paperclip, but not using eject under my computer.  Ive installed the lenovo eject utility, but no idea how to use it, but I dont think that having to go into the bios everytime or to use a paperclip is acceptable on a new laptop.  Would be grateful for any tips to try before I send it back.  For example, where can you download a mat**bleep**a driver or firmware update? Ive searched but they dont seem to have a website.  All I seem to get is lots of utilities that want paying for downloading anything.  Many thanks for any help, Tristan

    hi Tristan,
    Welcome to the Forums.
AFAIK, when you press the eject button, it sends a signal to the logic board, and the logic board sends a function to the eject machanism to release the tray. From your observation, it's likely that there's a mechanical or other physical failure inside the ODD that's preventing the tray to eject.
The Lenovo Eject Utility on the other hand is design for Thinkpads (haven't tested this on Ideapads units) and its function is the same when you right click on the DVD Icon and chooe Eject.

I recommend you contact lenovo and report your findings as you may likely need to send the unit for service.

  • CD/DVD drive and recognising DVD's

I have have a DVD from a skydive that i have done, it is recognised and played by any Dell or HP machine but my macbook pro says "supported disc not available" is there anything I can download to run it? Are there any particular formats that the drive doesn't recognise?

The laptop cd/dvd drive is not recognising any cd/dvd's I insert. The cd/dvd's that I do insert also do not seem to fit neatly into the drive.
Is this a software issue or is there something at fault with the hardware?
Any help on the issue would be greatly appreciated.
This sounds like a dirty laser lengs did you try to clean that off and see if can read again? Otherwise if you clean it and still does the problem would mean the drive is failing to read the Optical media.

  • Encore cancels DVD writing and ejects?!?! Help!

Ok, I know I just posted a little while ago, but now I am having a different problem.
I created a new Encore project and imported all my assets.  They were all in MPEG2-DVD format.
In the middle of encoding, Encore will cancel the process, and then eject the DVD.  Last time this happened to me, a message popped up saying that the "File was not a valid MPEG" or something like that. Now, the program just freezes.

    Hi There,
I've been owning LapTops since just about the days where Apple first introduced theirs.
I love Apple and I love OS X but for the love of the Universe I cannot understand why it has to be such a hazzle to wake up EVERY time the CPU has been sleeping and why it has to take AGES to eject a CD or DVD that aint even being used. This time of course takes much longer if the Mac has just been woken up.

  • HP Pavilion dv6000 DVD drive issues

I've had this issue for a while now and I've been able to get around it but it's really bugging me.  My laptop was unfortunately wedged under a heavy box while moving.  Everything else about the laptop runs fine, it's just the E: drive that refuses to work.  The computer recognizes the hardware and I'm able to check its properties, Windows believes that the hardware is functioning properly.  Yet, when I try to open the hatch (both by right clicking the E: drive in 'My Computer' and hitting 'eject', and by pushing the button on the hardware itself), nothing happens.  The light doesn't even come on anymore.
Is there any way to fix this problem?  I tried the download in the other thread about the CD drive not working, yet it didn't work.

I would replace the hard drive. That is a 640 gig 5400 rpm drive and you can get a bigger faster drive for a reasonable price.

If the computer is still working well enough to boot into Windows you can do a complete system backup and recover all your data, settings, programs, etc onto the new drive or we can help you do a disk clone of the old drive to the new.
Since your laptop will actually hold two hard drives simultaneously you could even put the old drive in the secondary bay so you have a copy of all your old stuff right at hand.
