Pavilion Touchsmart 23 screen dim after sleep since Windows 10

I have tried this, and it has not changed the problem. FYI, adaptive brightness was off by default on my computer after I upgraded to Window 10. Please escalate our issue, it is driving me crazy!

I also have a HP Touchsmart 23 with Radeon HD 8570D display adaptor exhibiting the same issue.  Microsoft and HP report no available updates and the adaptive brightness is OFF. There are no brightness controls on any control panel page including the power managment sections. The Windows 10 notifications pull-up for settings does not have a brightness slider.   Rebooting is the only method I have found to restore display brightness to a usable level.  Previously on  this thread it was stated ....According to the available list of supported drivers for your desktop computer, there is currently no Windows 10 graphics or chipset software published at the moment.  The orginal post is from August 4, so now more than one week later a solution has not been forthcoming.    Please escalate this issue as HP was reminding me to join in the Windows 10 upgrade and now that I did,  I have an ongoing problem with the hp pavilion 23.   Seems HP missed the boat and was recommending the upgrade knowing the chipset in the computer was incompatable.   Shame.

  • Screen Dims after a few minutes

    My screen dims after a few minutes.It is annoying when trying to watch a news segment or DVD.I have went to the energy section and can't find anything to do with Dimming unless I am looking in the wrong section.The only thing I can find are settings adjustments for screen saver and such.
    This is my fisrt Mac and I have had it for only 4 days.Yikes!!
    I have only seen a couple people post on this subject.I take it that maybe there is no real solution except to take it to Apple.
    `

    +~ Go into System Preferences open Energy Saver choose Options. Uncheck Automatically reduce the brightness of the display before display sleep. ~+
    I don't mind the dimming (except in extended viewing situations), but is the apparent battery-saving effect of the dimming preferable to the presumable wear-&-tear on the screen of the frequent brightness changes that result from having 'automatic dimming' active?
    Also, is there a way to put this under real-time control so that you can switch b&f between having/not having automatic dimming without having to keep opening System Prefs. each time?
    Thanks.

  • Macbook pro screen dims after waking from sleep?

    Does anyone know why my macbook pro screen dims when waking from sleep or waking from my screen saver? I can't get it to stop doing this. Thanks.

    It sounds like I have the same thing happening. It's more like the colors are washed out, like there is less contrast. I have a hot corner set up for my screen saver. Once I activate the screen saver for a second and then deactivate it, the Macbook screen goes back to normal. I have a 30" Samsung 305T monitor set up as a second (main) screen for when I'm working at home, which is most of the time. I haven't had it unplugged from the Macbook since this started, so I don't know if it happens by itself. I do know that the Samsung looks fine when waking up from the screen saver at the same time.
    I tried to find others with this problem in this forum, but got tired of looking through all the other posts that had nothing to do with this problem.
    Can anyone help us?

  • Screen dims after a minute or so

    How do you set the time it takes the screen to dim after not touching the notebook for a minute or so?

    I was wondering the same exact thing. In the Energy Saver area, I have "Put the computer to sleep when it is inactive for:" set to Never, "Put the display to sleep when the computer is inactive for:" set to 1.5 hours, and "Automatically reduce the brightness of the display before display sleep" unchecked. I also have "Automatically adjust brightness as ambient light changes" unchecked in the Display settings.
    Even with all these settings, the screen goes dim after about 1 minute of inactivity. Can't seem to figure out what would cause it.

  • New Mac Mini -- permanent screen dims after installing Mavericks

    Hello -- hope you can help.  We just purchased a Mac Mini and installed Mavericks on it.  It's driving a Panasonic Viera Plasma TV via HDMI, which is its only monitor/display.
    As soon as we finished the install and authorized it as a computer for my iTunes account (I did these nealy at the same time so can't be exact at what time the event occurred), the screen dimmed drastically -- from quite bright to very dull.  Has any one experienced this, and have you come up with a solution for it?  Or do you have any ideas?
    I have ensured that the radio buttons in Mission Control are off for multiple display options.
    Thanks so much.  Look forward to your response.

    Some people have experienced problems with monitors attached via HDMI. Most of them are having issues of the windows resizing to an un-responsive window.
    For some, the fix was to do a SMC reset. Since you have a Mac Mini, it's pretty easy. Power it down, unplug it for 15 seconds and plug it back in. Wait 5 seconds and turn it on and it should be reset.

  • F3507g GPS not working after sleep/resume Windows 7

    Under Windows 7 on ThinkPads with the F3507g Mobile Broadband Connection, there have been two long-standing problems:
    (a) after sleep/resume, the F3507g (Wireless WAN) disappears from the Fn+F5 menu;
    (b) after sleep/resume, ThinkVantage GPS does not work (forever displays Fix Type: N/A).
    By searching these forums, you can find past threads about these problems, none with a reproducible resolution.
    I am pleased to say that the latest driver update for the F3507g (v6.1.10.5  7UW708WW) appears to ameliorate problem (a) in that the F3507g Wireless WAN eventually re-appears in the Fn+F5 menu if you give it a few tens of seconds after a resume.  This update is available from:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-73681
    However, the non-working GPS after sleep/resume is still not solved.  Even though the "Wireless WAN" card is present and shown powered-on in the Fn+F5 menu, ThinkVantage GPS (2.60) is stuck on Fix Type: N/A, and the Windows 7 Weather gadget does not automatically discover the location.  Both applications work fine after a full Windows restart, but not after a sleep/resume.
    I have, however, discovered a work-around which restores GPS operation without a full restart:
    Open Device Manager;
    Expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers";
    Right-click "F3507g Mobile Broadband Device" and select "Disable";
    Wait for the system to settle down again;
    Right-click "F3507g Mobile Broadband Device" and select "Enable";
    Wait for the system to settle down again.
    Now you can press Start in ThinkVantage GPS, and Fix Type will quickly change from "N/A" to "No Fix", and then onward to satellite discovery.  And after a few false starts, the Windows 7 Weather gadget will discover the location.
    The fact that this work-around restores GPS operation indicates that the underlying fault is a driver software issue.
    The above symtoms and work-around have been verified on both a ThinkPad X301 and a ThinkPad T400s.  Neither have ThinkVantage Access Connections installed.  The X301, when previously running under Vista with the previous generation of drivers, did not display these symptoms: the symptoms appeared with the upgrade to Windows 7.

    Actually mine works fine after applying all the updates available on T400 w/ Windows 7 Pro 64bit. I can sleep/shutdown as much as I want and the GPS works.
    By the way, you have to goto your bios to reset your settings to default by pressing F9. Maybe you should try this and see if that solves your problem.
    The only GPS related issue that is not fixed is the issue of dual booting into linux. I dual boot into linux, and when that happens the GPS problem re-occurs once I log back into windows. The only way for me to fix the problem again at that point, is if I go back into the bios and hit F9 again, then re-enter windows.
    If I were to stay in a windows environment indefiniately, there is no problem. The problem is once I enter Linux, the problem in windows will occur again (maybe the powerstate settings by the linux kernal messes up the settings on the card).

  • Problems waking up after sleep since 10.8.3 update

    A couple of weeks ago, I updated to 10.8.3. Since then, I have been having difficulty waking the machine after sleep. I get the constant beach ball. On a forced restart, I will get the spinning gear followed by the prohibitory sign, like it can't find the OS. I have tried rebooting in safe mode, resetting PRAM/NVRAM, repaired disk and disk permissions with disk utility, checked the status of hardware with (AHT), reinstalled OS X (twice), but the problem persists. I'm at a loss and have no idea what else to do.
    I'm seriously regretting upgrading from Snow Leopard at all.
    I've been trying to run time machine to back everything up, but my external USB backup disks keeps randomly unmounting, so I can't even get a solid backup now.
    Please help.

    No, it has nothing to do with being Friends or not.
    There are more and more security issues with java, Oracle comes with updates almost every few weeks. Until lately Apple had it in theuir distribution system, but because of the security issues decided that it was not good business to distribute automatically this leaky system. So with new system updates the Java is removed to make sure the customers reinstall the latest version. You can download from both Oracle and Apple, but don't download from any other source.
    Luckily I do not need it anymore and have not installed Java since a few months.

  • IMac white screen after sleep since latest update

    Ever since I updated our iMac to 10.8.3, we get a blank white screen when we wake it from sleep. We can "wipe away" the white to reveal the desktop by dragging the mouse across the screen. It appears to be a video memory issue.

    I have the same problem ever since I updated to 1.8.3.
    Have any of you heard about a possible way to fix this?

  • PB 15" screen backlight after sleep problem

    I have an intermittent problem wherein my display backlight will not light sometimes upon waking up my PB from sleep. The backlight is totally out when this happens, not just dimmed. The laptop is on and the display itself is functioning (I can barely see the images on the dark screen) but the backlight is out. I have to press the power button for a second to get the "shut down" box, shut down the PB and restart it. During the boot process the screen backlight eventually relights. Anyone else having this problem?

    Try to replace inverter board.
    http://www.ifixit.com/cart/customer/product.php?productid=746&cat=&page=1
    Really easy to replace if yours is still under warranty then bring to nearest AASP or Apple store, If not then to replace inverter board you neew to use allen key to open 2 screws in the display open your display as wide as possible more than 90 degree and try to take the screws out.
    Then use plastic stick/nylon sticj to pry open the display along the light and dark grey plastic and after you open the display bezel you will see the inverter board located in the bottom of your display.
    Hope this help

  • Screen dimming after 20 seconds - not coming back to life

    This morning, when I started my laptop, it was working fine. THen after about 20 seconds the screen went really dim - dimmer than you can make it go normally, and too dim to use, but you can still see somethign.
    I put it too sleep, then brought it back again, and it came to life - but then did the same thing.
    Can anybody tell me what is wrong?
    Thanks

    You also may want to check TVT Power Manager; there are a few options in there that dim the display, some of which really dim the display quite a bit.

  • VZ Navigator Screen Dim after ICS update

    Since the update to Android 4.0.4, the VZ Navigator application my Droid Razr Maxx is almost unusable during the day.  Entering the application immediately dims the display so low that it is almost unreadable.   Exiting the application immediately returns the screen back to normal.
    I have disabled 'night' mode on VZ Navigator, uninstalled and reinstalled the VZ Navigator application (currently at 8.0).
    Has anyone else seen this behavior?

    I have the same problem after I accidentally installed ICS this afternoon. Also affected Navigator unless kept touching the screen at timeout.  Called tech support--no help.  Read threads then TRIED THIS TEMPORARY SOLUTION:1
    1. Go to Preferences->Display->NIGHT MODE->ON.
    2. Set Night Mode Brightness to 100 (slide right).
    May have to take phone display off automatic and manually set brightness.
    I also set screen timeout to 10 minutes for Navigator (Google) to prevent dimming until solve that one too
    A few other points.  VZNavigator, which was working perfectly on my Droid Razr Maxx prior to ICS, provides your speed and posted speed limits on screen.  Has a better display in some ways (3D is pretty real) and has found better routes at times. My wife has a Droid Razr and now also agrees VZN has some advantages.  Neither is perfect, glad to have both so when one is not working or gives bad route can switch to the other.  And it's $5/ month and worth it.
    When she upgraded to ICS, it caused battery drain almost visibly dropping.  Full charge gone in less than an hour.
    I also found some apps are SLOWER in loading on my Maxx and ICS changed my settings on email and other apps.  I personally do not like the newer visuals/graphics--harder to see, some controls easier in previous version, widgets had to be reloaded after power down trying to solve dark screen problem.
    Lots of things they could have fixed instead of an "a la Microsoft" let's give 'em lots of "new" features and looks (even if they don't like it).  After all, we're Microsoft (substitute Verizon)--we're big, we don't have to care.
    I loved the tech response (translated) "we'll get to it".

  • Macbook air 11.6' (late 2010 model) screen dims after few seconds and does not recover.

    Hi,
    I am running win7 under bootcamp on a macbook air 11.6'' late 2010 model (1.4 dual core, 4Gb memory, 64Gb ssd). A few days ago the screen started to dim a few seconds after bootup. Even if I pres any of the keys it does not light up again. However, if I connect to an external display it works fine. I use it for work and often I am mobile so I really need the display to work. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

    Found another forum with the same problem: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1560774, including another youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaGOKuwqsaw. The severity of the problem in this link looks worse than my problem. Mine is less severe than what's in this video, but more severe that what's in the first youtube link I provided.
    The posts in that forum claim: 1) the problem began after upgrading to a newer OS, 2) it occurs after waking from sleep, and 3) that closing the lid for 10 seconds is a work-around fix.
    Would be great if Apple fixes this. I won't buy another Mac, desktop or laptop, if they don't. Macs are too expensive to only get 2 years from, and in my opinion thay are not that much better than other options. I'm going to post a bug report on Apple's web site.

  • Screen darkens after booting in Windows mode

    I have an intel mac pro that runs windows xp (sp3) on boot camp.
    Every time i boot up in windows mode, once I reach the desktop, the screen darkens. Windows xp, to my knowlege, does not have the capacity to adjust screen brightness, as that is normally done manually with the monitor. When I boot back up in mac mode, the screen is unusually dark, so I go to the display window in the control panel, and find that it has been set to minimum brightness.
    This does not happen unless I boot up in windows mode.
    I think this is a new phenomenon. Since it's relatively subtle, it may have been going on for a while.
    I just installed SP3 a few days ago, after installing the bootcamp 2.1 update.
    and before you ask, yes, i have installed the mac drivers in windows.

    hmmmm. Interesting. Does seem that the monitor is common. Your description just says macPro. If the 8800 is the OEM card, then yours is a quad 3.0, or current gen 8 core?
    Do you also have the external controls on the monitor disabled via the X control panel? Although the old 23 does have both brightness and power controls on the front bezel, I have disabled them in the X control panel. I wonder if re-enabling them and using it for brightness control instead would make a difference on the windows side?
    ===
    On replacing the monitor....
    Is the 8800 GT HDCP compliant?
    I don't think Apples new FP displays are. I say that b/c if if you do replace the monitor, it may be worth considering a small HD TV, many of which are HDCP compliant, and less expensive than the Apple screen.
    That would set you up for an internal blueray player
    I've seen a Sony on sale for about 150.
    I have an off brand...Insignia, I think, 19" HDTV as the monitor on my Windows box. Surprisingly nice screen, and has an ATSC tuner, too. Think retail on it like 300$ at BBuy (I got it as a giveaway at a local car dealer).
    HDMI, composite, and VGA inputs. composite and minijack for audio.

  • Mavericks and MacMini - after sleep mode windows resized and glued to left upper corner

    Hi!
    I have MacMini and HDMI monitor. When I go to bed, I use sleep mode and off monitor using power button (I don't like standby light). When I woke up, I press on my touchpad to wake up my MacMini, after that I stand up and turning on monitor. All works fine, until I installed Mavericks. Now, after turning on, all windows changed size to very small and glued to left upper corner. I can't resize or move window. Only shutdown app can help. But, I can't shutdown Finder, I need reboot MacMini. It's very annoying.
    As I understand, this problem appear, when I wake up MacMini before turning monitor on. When I turned on monitor and after that woke up MacMini, windows don't change his sizes.
    What can I do to solve this problem?

    This issue is driving me insane. I lock my computer a couple of times a day as I go to meeting and what not. Everytime either Outlook or VMWare or Chrome will be screwed up when I awake it from sleep. I have to kill the app and start it back up again or I can't get it out of its weird "docked" mode. Basically the application window will be nearly off the screen. I can move it on the screen but the caption will be off screen still and I will not be able to size the window at all. It really messes VMWare's mind up when this happens.
    I wanted Mavericks as it was supposed to fix multiple monitor issues but it has made it worse. Very sorry I upgraded. I hope they fix it in the next bug patch. I just cuss at the stupid thing when I wake it.
    MacBook Pro 16g of memory with external 24" monitor via HDMI -> DVI connector. Laptop is primary monitor on the left, external monitor is on the right. Mavericks is in the doghouse just below both of them.

  • Screen black after sleep startup and won't turn off w/ power button?

    I have a Powerbook G4 and hardly ever turn it off, till lately.
    My computer started turning itself off after I would open it and wake it up from sleep mode. It would flash the screen quickly and then go black. All efforts to turn it off with the power button failed. I had to remove the battery and disconnect the power cord for about 2 minutes until it eventually shut down. I have not had this issue since I have been turning it off after every use, but was wondering if this was a sign that something was going out on my computer?
    Thanks!

    Try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
    Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
    If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.
    There's more to try but let's go a bit at a time.
