Pavilion15 e036ss WIN8 (verification failed and empty DVDs obtained)

Hello,
I'm having a lot of trouble creating a DVD revocery set with laptop HP 15-e036ss with WIN8 64.
I have two units of this notebook and I obtain an error after verification phase when creating the first DVD. This happens on both units. HP Recovery Manager prepares the image, then writes it and when finishes the verification I get an error message telling that verification process was not correct and the creation stops.
I have tried several DVD brands, Verbatim 4x DVD+R, Verbatim 16x DVD-R, SONY 16x DVD-R, etc. and I always get the same error on BOTH laptops.
What is really odd is that after this error, when I try to read the DVD, it apperars to be BLANK (empty), in fact if I try to write another Recovery Set I can use the same DVD and HP Recovery accepts it and starts writting. So I'm afraid that HP Recovery is not writting anything on the write phase at all. I've thrown away more than 10 DVDs (because I didn't realize that they were probably blank).
I would appreciatte any suggestion to solve that issue. Alternatively I would prefer to write the Recovery on an 32 GB flash USB but it seems that as I started creating DVDs the program doesn't give that option any more, is there any possibility to create the recovery on flash memory having in account that i still have not created any succesful DVD set?
Many thanks,
 Pep

Please see Creating Recovery Discs or Saving a Recovery Image to a USB Flash Drive (Windows 8) for information on creating recovery disc or USB flash drive.
The creation process takes about 30 minutes per DVD. The entire recovery set does not need to be created in one session. The Recovery Media Creation software can be aborted at any time, except during the writing (burning) process, by clicking Cancel . The next time the Recovery Media Creation software program is run, it automatically starts where it last stopped.
HP Recovery Media Creation software creates a set of system recovery discs using blank, writable DVDs (DVD-R, DVD-R DL, DVD+R, or DVD+R DL). HP recommends using blank DVD+R discs. Use a name-brand label from a manufacturer you trust, as these recovery DVDs are very important.
I have had great experience with HP, Sony, and TDK 16x DVD+R discs in the creation of dozens of Recovery Disc sets.

  • Satellite P200-1B6: Sound Driver update fails and HD-DVD Player doesn't work

I have just bought a Satellite P200-1B6 laptop and spent the day installing the updates recommended by the TEMPO program. One of these was a Sound Driver update from RealTek but on running this it fails about 80% of the way through with an error: 'Install Realtek HD Audio Driver Failure !!'.
Now the Toshiba HD DVD player fails to start with an error 'Unable to output the video to an external device.
Please switch your display device by pressing the Fn + F5 keys after ending the application'. I've tried this but it seems to have no effect.
I'm now regretting starting to update the installed drivers. Should I try to rebuild the machine using the recovery discs or is there another solution that someone has found? Or have others found the upgrade works?
    Any advice welcome

Last month I upgraded my PC Satellite P200 (BIOS, Driver ATI HD2600, Package VAP and HD-DVD Player).
But after this update, I was no longer be able to read my HD-DVDs
Error message was: "Unable to send the video to an external device. Please turn off the display device."
The problem was much of the update Realtek R1.76 (Realtek Sound Driver - 6.0.1.547 - 20/11/07) currently proposed on the site toshiba.
Indeed, the P200-1DE is equipped with Realtek ALC268 Audio Codec.
The latest update of this codec is R1.89. I downloaded from the site Realtek and it has allowed me to solve the problem.
    [http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level= 4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false]
I have no problem since that last update

  • Installing Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard, Install failed and HD write-locked

I recently downloaded the mountain lion installer from the App Store and I ran the installer. Stupid person as I am, I did not have any backups for my file and I naively assumed that an apple OS installer would be without flaws. Boy, was I wrong. I need every bytes of my data (or close to every bytes) but the installer failed.
Mid installation, the installer stopped and said that the installation failed and that I need to repair my disk. So I restarted the computer and I ran disk utilities (my start up disk was the OS installer and the installer allows me to run several programs, including terminal, disk utilities, and by the way, when I held option while starting up to see which start up disks I have, I only had the OS installer as the start up disk. Also, the installer allows me to run a program called "Startup Disk" when I click on the apple logo on the top left corner, but it doesn't allow me to startup my computer using Macintosh HD) and noticed that when I highlighted Macintosh HD, my "Repair Disk" button was grayed out. So first things first, I ran the "Verify Disk" button but after a minute or so, Disk Utilities said that verification failed and that Macintosh HD needs to be repaired. But the "repair disk" button is grayed out! So I went to the Mountain Lion installer again and ran it. Of course, it failed again so I restarted the computer.
So I tried to first back up all files in Macintosh HD to an external hard drive using Disk Utilities, and I used features such as "New Image" and "Restore" but they both ended up in "Input/Output error". I tried many methods with Disk Utilities but they resulted in errors.
After some research, I noticed that some people's computers worked after they reset their PRAM. So that's what I did. I held command+option+P+R when computer started up and I reset the PRAM. When the start up disk (which is the OS installer, not the normal operating system) loaded, I was greeted with choose languages option and then I was back in the Mountain Lion installer state. I again ran the installer again, hoping something would be different, but then it was different. But not in a good way. When I was told to choose where I would like to install Mountain Lion, I noticed that Macintosh HD was grayed out. Last time, I was at least able to run the installer but this time, Macintosh HD was grayed out. The installer said that my Macintosh HD was locked. After some research, I learned that apparently, the Mountain Lion installer write-locks Macintosh HD mid installation.
So now I am stuck and I am thinking of two things (plus some questions)
    1. I am wondering if there is a way to unlock Macintosh HD. But even if I can unlock Macintosh HD, there is no guarantee that the installer will successfully install Mountain Lion, am I right?
    a. so how can I un-write-lock Macintosh HD?
    2. More realistically, I am thinking of borrowing someone else's macintosh computer and use it as the backup center. I have a firewire cable and a terrabyte external hard drive. So what I'm thinking is that I'll hook my computer in target mode to my friend's computer and I will also plug in my external hard drive to my friend's computer and then I can download and run Carbon Copy Cloner from my friend's computer to copy all data from my Macintosh HD to my external hard drive. And then I will erase my Macintosh HD, freshly install Mountain Lion onto it and then copy all data back from my external hard drive. But I am not sure about few things.
    a. it looks like my Macintosh HD is write-locked. Can I still use Carbon Copy Cloner to copy all data from Macintosh HD (in target mode) to my external hard drive?
    b. will my computer allow me to erase (or format) Macintosh HD?
    c. will my erased/formatted Macintosh HD able to install + be installed Mountain Lion OS?
If you are here, then you have read my long long problem. Thank you very much and I would really really really appreciate your answers and opinions. Thanks

I'm not sure where you read that about the disk being "write-locked." That doesn't make much sense, given that the major task an installer like this must achieve is writing a whole bunch of files to the hard drive. I think your source was mistaken.
As to what happened, it sounds like your hard drive was badly corrupt to start with, or possibly was on the edge of failing and is now in the process of dying entirely. If you don't have backups of your data, that does not bode well for you, unfortunately. If you can manage to use target mode to copy your data, do that.
Once you're sure you've got all your data, you need to start up from your Snow Leopard install disk and repair the hard drive. (Since it sounds like the Mountain Lion installer didn't work, I wouldn't trust the recovery partition that Mountain Lion installs.) Or, even better, just erase the hard drive entirely and reinstall Snow Leopard. Then, once you're back up and running, with all your data back on the system and with Snow Leopard updated to the most recent version, try installing Mountain Lion again. If any of that fails again, the problem is likely to be a dying hard drive, and you'll need to replace it.

  • Facetime prompting me to login to apple id- saying "verification failed"

I use facetime on my macbook pro ALL THE TIME. Usually when I launch the application, it's already logged into my account. All of the sudden when I opened the application it was prompting me to login with my apple ID and after several minutes, it says "verification failed" and then gives me the option of creating a new Apple ID, which after a decade of one Apple ID, i'm not prepared to do. Any suggestions? My software is up to date. Running on 10.7.5

  • Verification failed! codec overrun!

So this is a brand new MacBook given to me yesterday as a Graduation present. I haven't been able to download anything (such as MSN messenger for Mac and Firefox for MAC, both of which have been downloaded from Apple website). I have tried probably fifty times. Each time I get the same error message 'verification failed' and then 'codec overrun'. I've called Apple three times today, and had to reinstall my software three times. Nothing has worked.
The Mac people don't know how to fix it.
    Help anyone???

I'm getting this same error, from Firefox AND Safari. I'm using a TiPB/867MHz with a gig of RAM. I did the archive install (which mucked up my Apache2/PHP install, but that's another story), I did AppleJack.
Once I did the "downgrade" from 10.4.11 to 10.4.6, I was able to download the two Java updates (20 and 36MB - ????) but I can't download the 10.4.11 update at 186MB.
I also can't download things like Plone, iWork '08 demo, and a lot of other things. BUT I went to my Intel Macbook and the same links download fine.
I thought it was bad RAM, but I ran Techtool and everything checked out OK. Applejack didn't find any problems either.

  • Superdrive problem, verification failed with toast7 and 8

If I burn a dvd disc with toast 7 or 8 the verification fails immediately or at 1% of verification. When I see a video dvd burned with my superdrive 2 o 3 times during the film some frames are dropped, I've tried to read the dvds with the table player under my tv too and the problem is the same...
I encounter this problem from november 2006, when I bought my imac 24

Generally the first two things to try are these:
    1) Burn at a slower speed;
    2) Try a different maker of dvd media.
DVD-burning is timing-sensitive. Always best to avoid doing other tasks on the computer while burning.

    Mac OS 10.5 /
I deleted the " Private" folder ... and emptied the trash. So the folder and its contents no longer exists on my computer at all !!!
I do have the OS 10.5 dvd that i purchased years ago...
But my computer will not start from it on its own.
My question is what is the open source or terminal language code used to tell my mac to look in the DVD rom drive for startup info?  I know that im not the only person in this world who has deleted the "PRIVATE" folder and emptied the trash so it no longer exists on their machine...
That said theres gotta be a common fix for a Power PC G4 that has the OS X dvd in the rom drive but wont look to it to reinstall the vital contents of the PRIVATE folder.
Once again there is not a copy of this file or its contents in the recycle bin...
Also rebooting the machine , pressing and holding the letter C does not prompt the machine to look to the dvd rom drive.
I was reinstalling pro tools and figured I would make some room by cleaning my computers HD...
Lol It was a bad choice to delete this file ...
    Thanks guys

Okay sorry it took forever to respond... But for a while there I gave up on this computer!!!!
Money's been tight lately , so taking it in to a professional was not yet an option... though I did consider it eventhough.
Anyway long story short im glad I didnt spend any money because I already had all the tools necessary to fix this issue but was going about it in the wrong way. Okay so here is my scenario and the breakdown... Though this may not fix the issue for everyone :( which *****... But I know we all will have different circumstances.
    Anyway here we go...
Okay so first things first....  Years ago I purchased the OS 10.5.1 disk ... So that has always been in my possession!!!!
I realize that some may not have a disk to reflash your OS to your hard drive... but if you do your in luck.
2ndly ... I had an external harddrive with all of my itunes downloaded music so it was more than okay with me to delete my primary HD because all the important stuff could either be copied over or repathed to be located.
-------If you dont want to read through the whole story the fix is summed up in the bottom section-------
    Okay so now the SOLUTION!!!!
By trial and error , and pure boredom I opened up my computer to clean the inside...
    AND
    "Disconnected the primary HD"
and just because ....... REBOOTED my computer. Just to see what it would do.
Upon restart and though it looked like it would repeat its usual cycle...
About 1 minute in to that process my computer froze for about 2 seconds and flashed to the OS installation screen.
Mind you I havent seen this screen yet... Probably hasnt been since I installed the OS years ago.
After a bit of trial and error...
I decided to tell my computer to startup from the OS 10.5 disk located in my dvd rom drive and restarted once again...
    this setting is under
    Utilities / startup disk
After a little more trial and error ... I realized that I could reconnect the primary HD , restart the machine and return to the OS installation menu.
    So upon this discovery
I went to the Disk Utility located under Utilities
Highlighted my primary HD located in the left hand column
    Once highlighted ...
In the heading section on the right I selected the option
    Erase
in which I erased My current OS on my primary HD ...
I used the first option in the list under security... Because it seemed like the least invasive and would take the least amount of time to see if this process would actually work.
    I FORGOT to add something...
Another reason why I deleted my primary HD!!!!!
I forgot to say that it WOULD NOT!!!!! Show up in the STARTUP list as an option...Even After multiple reboots....
But like clockwork... Once I deleted its name IT SHOWED UP as an option!!!!
So back to the next step...
I returned to the STARTUP option under utilities ... And was then able to see MY primary HD now as a startup option...
But ofcourse it had no name because it we previously erased it.
So when Clicking my newly erased HD ... I was almost immediately prompted to REINSTALL the OS ...
Which said it would take about 57 minutes ... But I believe was alot less...
My issue was resolved ... My computer then stated the install was SUCCESSFUL!!!!!!! :))))))))))) lol ;)
It was like I was setting up for the first time ;) asking for my registration info...
The dilemma of deleting the private folder and emptying the trash is finally over resolved. Done ... and no extra money spent!!!!!!!!!
Its really crazy that the information for such a simple thing is not readily available. Especially being such a simple fix.
I know im not the only person who's had this issue , because i've seen numerous posts with similar wording.
I also know I wont be the last person to have this issue... So I hope this synopsis makes sense.
    -------One more time the fix------
*Insert your OS dvd into your dvd rom drive.
*Unplug your primary HD or corrupted startup disk
    *Reboot your machine...
Upon restart your primary HD will not be recognized...
    * you will then be prompted to select your language.
    Once selected
*Click Utilities/startup... Highlight the the selection that refers to the OS dvd located in the dvd rom drive.
    * Click restart...
!!!!!!!!!!Be sure to reconnect your Primary HD Before your computer restarts and you hear the chime!!!!!!!!
If you do not replug your HD before the chime it will not be recognized.
    In that case restart again.
    Upon restart once again
    *Choose your language...
    *Click Utilities / disk utility
In the left column select and
    *Highlight your HD ...
Then towards the top portion / center of the page
    *Click the heading Erase
Then on the page toward the bottom
    *Click security options
This will then provide erase options.
    I USED THE FIRST OPTION
    "Dont erase data"...
    *click OK
    * click erase...
Once erased which should take a few seconds
    *Cancel the disk utility...
    * Click Utilities / startup
And your newly erased HD should now appear in the list.
    * Select your drive from the list by highlighting
It should no longer have a name.
*Once selected, you will then be prompted to restart and install the OS to your newly erased HD...
    Thats it!!!!
Once everything reinstalls re-add your personal info or registration info and you are up and running.
    Goodluck ;)

  • Install from software failed AND install from DVD failed....

I downloaded Mountain Lion from the App Store and burned a bootable disc, or so I thought, before installing. Upon installing (from the hard drive version), the hard disk failed and ML wouldn't install, nor would the drive even mount any more. (Luckily, I ran time machine so my dada isn't lost.) So today I bought a new HD and spent 4 hours zeroing it.
I put in the bootable DVD and, after 10 minutes, it finally tried to install. Then it said "There was an error installing the system. Please try reinstalling the operating system." (Dear Apple, that is not the mot helpful error message.)
So, I tried to use the utilities on the DVD to restore from my Time Machine backup, but the tools never loaded!!
I finally got the old drive to mount, so I started CCC but now the drive unmounts itself about 3GB into an attempted clone.
I don't have a Lion DVD because I can't find the one that came with my MacBook.
    NOW WHAT?! :-(
My Mountain Lion App Store purchase is verified right? Can I attempt to download the ML installer on my 10.6 machine and possibly re-burn a disc? (Does it matter if it's +R DL or -R DL?)

You mean updating from the downloader? I tried that first, it's what crashed the drive to begin with.

  • Empty DVD drive spins and hums while battery is charging

This is odd and specific: When the battery runs down on my Powerbook and goes to sleep, I plug in the charger and the DVD drive starts spinning. It gives a continuous hum, despite being empty, which stops when I sleep the computer. When I reawaken it, it hums again. It takes three or four times of waking and sleeping before the DVD drive finally stops spinning. Pressing the Eject button does nothing and the drive has no media in it. It only does it while the battery is charging; once it's charged, unplugging and replugging does nothing. Any idea what's up? How to get it to stop? Thanks!

Arvin: Are you quite certain there's no disc in the drive? Nearly all of the vibration that you feel and the sound that you hear when an optical drive is operating normally is caused by the disc itself being minutely (or sometimes not so minutely) unbalanced. There should be far less noise and vibration without any disc in the drive, because only the drive motor is spinning. Of course without a disc in the drive, the motor shouldn't be spinning at all — as you know.
Start your Powerbook up from a cold shutdown while holding the mouse button down. Keep holding it; if there's a disc in the drive, it should be ejected before the computer starts up. If that yields no results, try (very gently) inserting a disc into the drive. If it inserts normally, you were right: the drive is empty. It shouldn't be spinning, and I don't know why it is.
If the disc runs into something and won't go in, don't push it: there's already a disc in the drive, and now the problem becomes how to get it out. I'm betting there is indeed a disc in there that you've forgotten about, and that isn't being ejected. Failure to eject a disc using any of the standard methods suggests a mechanical failure of the drive, which will need to be replaced if it can't be persuaded to behave.
The disc, if there's one in there, can be manually recovered in the course of replacing the drive — a fairly simple do-it-yourself job for anyone who isn't all thumbs and can follow directions.
