Pavillion 500-c60 Windows 7 x64 backload hints

Just trying to give back, not perfect:
1)  Win 8.1 Home doesn't have downgrade rights.
2)  If you have a valid Win7 license, then this is what I did:
3)  Don't plug in the network.  Boot the PC and build the recovery DVDs (4).
4)  Restart the PC and change the BIOS settings to disable secure boot, enable legacy support for USB, and introduce at least a 10 second delay on the post screen.
5)  Make sure that your keyboard and mouse are not plugged into the the rear USB 3 ports at the rear of the pc.
6)  Install Win7 x64 from your media.
7)  I used a USB wireless NIC to do the following, but you could probably do some of the downloads in this step:
a)  Download mozilla and install it.  (IE doesn't render the "menu" correctly on the AMD due to screen resolution.
b)  Install the catalyst suite.
c)  After the catalyst suite is installed, use the link to the chipset drivers provided by AMD.
d)  Uninstall your wireless NIC and do windows update.  Make sure that you overlay the MS-provided video drivers over the catalyst drivers as of 12/31/2014 as they seem more stable.
Should be GTG after that.

  • CHKDSK fails on fresh install of Windows 7 x64 on mid-2009 MBP with SSD

There was an earlier post about this that has been archived prematurely that I will reproduce below. The main issue is a flaw in the Windows 7 x64 CHKDSK of the SSD drive in the mid-2009 MBP= 5,2. With fresh OSX installs, bootcamp 3.1, Windows 7 x64 all updates, the CHKDSK operation checks files at about 1 per second in stage 4 of 5, verifying file data.
Moderators: please leave this open until it is actually resolved.

Windows 7 x64, MacBook Pro, frequent CHKDSK after HDD firmware update
    Posted: Nov 2, 2009 6:45 AM
Hello, I have been having filesystem problems on my Windows 7 partition since the HDD related firmware update (the latest Performance update) was released and installed onto this mid 2009 MacBook Pro.
The HDD is a 500 GB 7200 RPM model, but it never gave me any troubles under OS X before the "fix" and I know other users had intermittent problems with the HDD on their MacBook Pro's related to the HDD making noises and pausing.
The fix was released, I installed it and I started seeing my first problem in Windows 7 x64 a few days after... I cleanly shut the OS down, but when I booted it back it asked me to perform a coherency check to the Filesystem... I thought that the problem was related to the fact that I was using the RC1 build of Windows 7... although that problem never manifested itself in the weeks before the Performance Update (HDD firmware fix) was installed and Windows 7 x64 RC1 had been on there and used frequently.
I recently purchased Windows 7 retail a few days ago and after a bit of trouble-free operation I started having problems again... always shutting the PC down carefully and I was asked to run the CHKDSK utility at boot twice already.
    What to do?

    Hi there,
I have a different experience. I installed Windows 7 before the "performance update 1.0" came out. I actually experienced the chkdsk launch problem with Windows 7. I had done repartitioning and clean-install several times but cannot solve the problem. So I tried to install XP and Vista on my MBA (Mid 2009 with SSD) and found that these two OS doesn't introduce such problem.
To be honest, I'm not sure which caused such problem, Windows 7, a bootcamp driver, or EFI. But I'm sure that CHKDSK in Windows 7 has an obvious bug that needs to be patched (memory leak and maybe this problem as well). So now I'm using Windows Vista SP2. And I'm happy with Vista SP2 (seems to become faster and stable now).

  • Problems deploying Windows 7 x64 computers with more than 8GB RAM

    SCCM 2012 R2 CU1
    Windows 7 x64
We have a weird problem after upgrading from SP1 to R2 CU1. We have built a Windows 7 64 bit image with the latest updates (currently September 2014 updates). It deploys fine to all computers. But after some days – don’t know exactly – guess after 4-7 days
    - we start getting errors on computers with more than 8 GB of RAM. The errors just start out of the blue. We didn't change TS, image or driver package.
The error shows in 3 different ways – depending of the computer model.
    1) BSOD – STOP 0x000000F4. Disk error.
    2) Task Sequence error 0x87D00269 when installing the first Application in TS. The error seems to have something to do with Management Point not found.
    3) Task Sequence simply stops after installing CMclient. No errors - it simply stops.
For instance we get the BSOD on the Lenovo ThinkCentre M93p. But on the ThinkCentre M83 we get the TS error 0x87D00269. M93p and M83 uses the same driver package. They consequently  fail every time after the error has begun. If we reduce (remove physically)
the memory to max. 8GB of RAM, they successfully run the Task Sequence.  We get the above errors on both Lenovo and HP machines with more than 8GB.
I made a copy of the production TS and started testing. I created a new driver package for M93p/M83. It contains only the NIC drivers. Now M93p an M83 successfully finishes the TS. Adding sata or chipset or MEI/SOL drivers to the package I get the 0x87D00269
error on both m93p and M83. At least not the BSOD on the M93p ;-)
Tried setting  SMSTSMPListRequestTimeout to 180 in the TS. Also tried putting in a 5 minute break before installing the first Application in the TS. Also tried putting in SMSMP=mp1.mydomain in the installation properties for the CMclient. It is still
    the same problem.

Hopefully this is a bug in translating the errorcodes? Just to be sure I checked all the SCCM serviceaccounts and none of them have expired passwords.  And again why only on computers with more than 8GB RAM.
Anyone else had problems rolling computers with more than 8GB og RAM?
Why does this happens after a few days? To begin with, it runs just perfect and then starts failing on all machines with more than 8GB. Without a change in TS, image and driverpackage. We have seen this pattern for the last 3 month after
updating our image with the latest Windows Updates. It all started after updating from SP1 to R2 CU1.
Why does it only affect machines with more than 8GB RAM?
How to get rid of the 0x87D00269 error?
Seems to be somehow related to driver installation mechanism in SCCM in combination with Windows 7 64 bit, +8GB RAM and SCCM 2012 R2 CU1 or perhaps just R2.
Any help or hints would be appreciated!
    Thanks
    Anders

We have the same workaround, using a x64 boot image resolved all our issues with WinPE 5.0.
    Machines with >4GB of RAM
Lenovo ThinkPad T540p failed applying drivers with 80040005
    Black screen/white cursor issues intermittently
No updates from Microsoft, they are still looking through the logs, but we have updated our boot images and all is well now. Our case it still open with Microsoft, they are researching the logs.

  • Using USB for Bitlocker in a Bootcamp install of Windows 7 x64 Ultimate on early-2011 Macbook Pro

First of all some details on my current setup:
Macbook Pro 15" (early 2011) with a i7 QM processor and 8 GB RAM, Superdrive and HD installed
    Mac OS X 10.7.3
Windows 7 x64 Ultimate in a Bootcamp setup
Existing partitions on HD are EFI, MacOS X, Bitlocker Startup, Windows
I removed "Recovery HD" after creating DVD image contained in latest Lion installer from AppStore.
    What I got so far:
It took some time to find a way for Windows getting a second partition to be used for Bitlocker startup files. Using existing partition layout I replaced previously existing "Recovery HD" partition for Bitlocker partition in Windows (after taking dd-based image of Recovery HD).
Recently I tried to enable Bitlocker and continued to fail on Bitlocker System Check claiming to have no access on USB while booting. And that's my issue ...
I read about using Windows' diskpart to have a GPT partitioned USB stick containing single NTFS partition. I tried to achieve the same with disk management in Mac OS X though it was creating a hybrid MBR/GPT setup that wasn't recognized by Windows at all. Then I tried partitioning in Mac OS X to have GPT partitioning, used Clonezilla Live CD's gdisk to apply hybrid setup another time. I even tried to do the whole partitioning in Linux using gdisk, but Windows still didn't recognize the formatted partition on USB stick then. So, the only way found is using diskpart in Windows to get a GPT-based USB-stick with a single NTFS partition.
I put my startup key there (attributed as hidden, system file) and tried to restart several times. On every boot Windows is prompting for inserting valid startup key as it wasn't found. The partition is encrypted already and entering the printed 48 digits recovery key gets me in every time.
If I keep the stick inserted the boot is noticeably delayed, but it's instantly continuing as soon as I unplug the stick. So there is something processing the stick ... I tried different sticks, but hope it's not related to using one special stick since they are used to support similar (equivalent) interfaces, aren't they?
Don't tell me about using TrueCrypt or similar as I prefer to use existing software instead of adding 3rd-party software doing things the same way. And for True Crypt USB must be readable at boot as well. And previous trials with different approaches rendered all failing at some point of setup. Finally, I don't want to reinstall existing Windows as it keeps me from working even more.
Found some post regarding trouble with Lion installations (e.g. I can't use rEFIt ... it simply didn't show up and this seems to be related to using Lion), found the KB article of Apple on preparing USB external storage for use at boot, but all troubleshooting hints didn't help.
What the heck is wrong with this setup?
EDIT: There is no problem to have Bootcamp starting previous Recovery HD partition now Bitlocker startup partition instead of originally prepared Bootcamp partition, which is encrypted now. This is in contradiction to other posts here. I'm sure Apple support isn't best choice to ask for support as this problem is MS specific and thus Apple won't care that much ...

Well, I've seen lots of those threads as well and most failed to manage cooperation of Bitlocker and FileVault, have trouble to get a second partition for windows to use with bitlocker or truecrypt etc. But these issues don't apply to me anymore.
Next there are threads instructing how to get a USB stick to work with Bitlocker claiming to have GPT instead of MBR so EFI is gaining any access on them. Those cases seem to work with MacBooks running with Windows, only, thus passing the issues mentioned in paragraph before as well.
And there is my confusion originating from: I can remember some sites claiming to have trouble with EFI on a Mac using Lion, but all those sites are older than Lion's final release date. So I don't know if there is a similar issue today or if I'm actually missing some option ... rEFIt isn't working with Lion according to the refit site itself. Some sites claim EFI is behaving differently on whether there is a super drive or not as Lion isn't supporting USB booting as long as booting from DVD/CD is available ... what's true about those facts? Is my problem related to having a super drive? Are things getting better as soon as I'm replacing my superdrive by a second internal drive? Is it that strange or some sort of plausible behaviour?
According to GPT, Windows 7 is obviously failing to properly detect hybrid MBR/GPT setups on USB sticks while that's what MacOS' disk manager is doing on having GPT-based single partition stick with exFat format. Instead of using the second hybridized partition it's accessing the protected part, only. If I'm converting a disk to GPT in windows everything works fine, but then without hybridized MBR ...
Regarding the fans I'm with you ... as soon as processor load is exceeding 5% the fans get quite noisy ...

  • Windows 7 x64 on T500 (ger)

    Hi,
since yesterday I'm installing and configuring windows 7 x64 german at my Lenovo T500. After fresh install it seems to miss not soo many device drivers - so I installed the bunch of Lenovos windows 7 beta program. The following I don't get to run at the moment:
+ ATI/INTEL SWITCHING GRAPHICS (perhaps missing special win7 driver)
      - 1st I installed with switchable graphics and os detection on at BIOS, windows 7 recognized only Intel
      - 2nd I installed vista ATI switchable driver, and got swicht GPU at power manager menu
      - device manager shows aTI only for a few seconts after trying to swicht GPU
      - 3rd I decided to set BIOS to use ATI only fpr the moment
+ OSD inside hotkey package (win7 beta but freezes my system starting tponscr.exe, hard to find if you can't login)
    + FINGERPRINT
      - 1st I tried windows 7 built in, but no scan results reached the system
      - 2nd I saw an driver update using microsoft update, but nothing changes
      - 3rd I installe Lenovos windows 7 beta driver; after starting and enter password I have to wait several seconds to be able to press send; afterwards it seems there is also no communication between soft- and hardware
      - 4th I tried authen's windows 7 beta; same as windows 7 own driver
      - last I deinstalled Lenovos beta because it costs about 10s at booting (I'm using ssd and so its terrible)
    + CAMERA
      - I installed Lenovos driver for vista; at device manager there is the camera, at scanner and cameras I can't see
      - how to test camera functionality?
+ HSDPA MODEM / ACCESS CONNECTIONS
      - After installing Lenovos windows7 beta shown at devide manager ...
      - but how to connect; access connections comes without the second and third tab I used to see there
      - using GPS its possible to unlock SIM
Perhaps somebody can give/complete some installation hints to get the one or other to work now. I only wrote about the seen problems, thinks like power manager seems to work perfectly, thinks like easy eject or presentatin director were no more useful because of built in windows functions.
    best regards
      Ronny

Ronny, I felt I should at least let you know there are others out there trying the same. I have experience with both Vista x64 and Win7 x64 on my T500.
As far as video is concerned, my findings are in line with yours. Switchable Graphics are completely non-functional, I was able to enable discrete, but performance was poor.
    On-screen Display is completely non-functional
If you're using HSDPA forget Access Connections. It's been crap since it was first ever created and it is still crap today. I say this as a user of Thinkpads for over a decade now. On any platform it has always consistently hung on connection. Use Sony Ericcson's Wireless Manager, it works perfectly and has radio enable / disable features built right in:
Direct Link to Wireless Manager 5 for Ericsson F3507g Mobile Broadband Minicard Network Adapter
I think that's all I have for now. The rest of everything seems to be working. Oh, I also tried the graphics switching with and without the Thinkpad Power Manager installed.

  • Creative audigy 2 (SB0400) + windows 7 x64 compatability issue.

Hell everyone, I am experiencing an issue with my sound card " the creative audigy 2 (SB0400) model " . I am running running windows 7 x64 bit with all latest security patches and updated drivers where available. However, when using the provided drivers from windows update (WDM), I experience a pause when listening to any type of music files ie: mp3,flac,ogg just to name a few and when playback on several media players, it freezes the sound + mediaplayer for a minute or two, then it will play onward. Also when not playing any media files, I have noticed a crackel pop every so often from my speakers, which can be annoying as well.
Now, I have uninstalled the drivers provided by windows 7 update via " Start button > Computer > Manage " and selected Device Manager Then Sound , Video and Game Controllers and Right clicking on Creative SB Audigy 2 (wdm)? and choosing uninstall making sure the box is checked to also "Delete the driver software for this device" And did a reboot afterwards. After the reboot I have now downloaded the current driver pack from Creative Labs website SBAX_PCDRV_LB_2_8_00. It has installed successfully other than the fact that it has detected a previous driver (by windows updates), which I had " thought " it was deleted by windows 7. Now after i have installed the SBAX_PCDRV_LB_2_8_00 driver, when going to the speaker icon in the windows 7 tray area and selecting sounds I am annoyed by a message box saying: Windows has detected that audio enhancements for the following device are causing problems: Speakers (Createi've SB Audigy 2 (wdm) )? Would you like to disable the Driver Enhancements for this device ?.
First of all, Why would I want to disable the " Driver Enhancements " for my SB0400 card when the card is supported for it. Are these issues be fixed, if so, please point me to the rigth direction for the proper support for my device. ?
Also, I have been noticeing when playing any type of media file mostly all formats out there the sound will just RANDOMLY stop and freeze.

  • Unable to connect to localhost Windows 7 x64, CF9 x64

I've been following along with the Lynda.com tutorial on ColdFusion Builder. Everything went smoothly until the part where I'm supposed to attach CFB to the localhost. The Lynda.com presenter is on a Mac. I am running 64-bit Windows 7 and 64-bit ColdFusion 9 developer edition.
When I would add the local server to CFB, it would sit with status unknown forever. Eventually I would get a message on the console saying
Error retrieving server version. Cannot perform the operation. Check if the server is accessible from web browser.
(I was following the thread about remote connection issues with great interest, but nothing there seemed to apply to my problem.)
I have tried a number of different permutations of installing and configuring the components.
    CF9 x64 Stand-alone
    CF9 x64 J2EE piggybacking on IIS
    CF9 x64 J2EE built-in web server
I tried these with and without the most recent patches to CFB and CF9
With the built-in web server, I tried using cfusion:8300. I also tried creating a new server instance called localhost on 8500. When I tried adding localhost:8500 to CFB, CFB locked up.
I have a feeling that I'm either looking in the wrong place or I have overlooked something obvious. I just thought of one thing I haven't tried... I will try to install the 32 bit version of CF9 to see if that helps.
Any other advice would be appreciated. Is anyone else running CF9 x64 under Windows 7 x64?
    --B

I decided to check the system reqs for CFB just in case I made an RTFM gaffe.

So, no 64 bit version, but the 32-bit should work... well - that's one less thing.
I tried 32bit CF9 but the server wouldn't serve any pages. I kept getting a 500.0 error. Adobe has addressed this:

but I decided to shut down IIS and run CF9 as a free-standing J2EE using its own built-in web server.
Once again, CFB locked up when trying to add the new localhost server. I'm going to uninstall and reinstall CFB...

    Hi Erico,
I apologise - I did read your email but have obviously misunderstood. I have just bought this computer. I made it clear at the store that I wanted to plug it into the TV so that I can stream video to the tv. They assured me that I could using the hdmi connector. That part is true. They did not include the fact that you could not use integrated video and the video card at the same time. Perhaps you did not ask the right question.
It is not clear to me what you mean by saying that the graphics on the motherboard is disabled if there is a graphics card. You said: An installed video card disables the motherboard's onboard video ports. The ports do not seem to be disabled as my monitor, which is plugged into one of those ports, is working. What I stated is a direct quote from the specifications.
Are you saying that the mere fact of having the video card in the computer  should mean that the vga output that is coming from the motherboard is disabled - that does not appear to be happening. The are to portson the graphics card, hdmi and dvi. Neither og them output at all. The only port which works is the vga one on the motherboard. That would indicate either a bad PCIe-x16 slot, a failed video card or a bad motherboard. You need to contact HP or the store where you purchased it so you can resolve this issue under warranty. I suggest removing the connection to the integrated video and testing the connections at the video card again.

The following information on the image is from HP's Products specification on the support portal for your desktop PC. Your desktop PC has a different video card if I read  what you said correctly. BTW..no apology required. It happens to everyone.

Under Windows 7 x64 (fully up to date) both machines see about 10-12Mbits speed but I see all sorts of time outs and high latency when I ping the wireless router, they look like 1,2,2,2,1,3,4,6,455,500,timeout,timeout,1,1,2,3 and so on
Both of these tests were done standing infront of the router
Both machines are running 5.106.198.19 of the Broadcom 902.11n driver (dated 04/05/2012)
Is any one else experiencing the same issues? I understand Bootcamp is provided as is but this driver is bunk

    I've followed that link:
    Find it here: http://www.wireless-driver.com/broadcom-wireless-driver-utility-winxp-vista-win7 -ver51001968/
and installed the driver, but I notice no difference.
The boocamp 5.0.5033 driver doesn't work any better.
Where can I find a really old driver (like bootcamp ver 2.7, which worked great with this MBP),... or.. how do I extract just the broadcom wireless driver out of the bootcamp exe or dmg file if I can get my hands on bootcamp 2.7?
Or ... Maybe my Actiontek modem/router that Centurylink provided doesn't communicate well with broadcom wifi cards?

Just had to ask, do you know the difference between hard drive and CD/DVD drive?  Don't get angry, read this.
You said " I know the old drive .......... is working as i can put discs in and they load up.When i click on the old drive-F drive- in file explorer 'Please insert disc' message pops up.'
All that implies a CD/DVD drive. You can not put a disc into a hard drive.

  • HP Pavillion 500-164 playing through my television

My HP Pavillion 500-164 doesn't have a HDMI jack on the back of the desktop.  But it has a VGA jack.  I've plugged in a VGA cable to my desktop and to my television.  But only get the computer desktop screen on my television.  Nothing else.  I own a HDMI cable.  Should I get a VGA to HDMI converter?

    As you computer has the following connections;
    3 - VGA           4 - DVI-D          12 - Audio: Line Out port (lime)
I would suggest using an HDMI-to-DVI cable and a 1/8" mini-stereo cable to connect your computer to the HDTV. Alternatively, you can use a VGA cable but theoretically the image will be of poorer quality.
    Please see these examples from Amazon.com (RadioShack.com wouldn't work);
    HDMI-to-DVI = http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Rated-Speed-DVI-D/dp/B004CBDY42/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=139416240...

  • HP Pavillion 500-310t

I just received a HP Pavillion 500-310t desktop.  I am trying to use my HDTV as a monitor.  I purchased a DVI/VGA adapter cord to use, but my tv is still not recognizing that it is connected to the desktop. I have it on the RGB/comp input.  I understand the audio will not work like this, but I just want the tv to work as the monitor.

I understand that you are experiencing an issue where the audio is not working on your HP Pavilion 500-017c Desktop PC using Bose speakers. I would be happy to assist you, but first I would encourage you to post which operating system you are using. And whether your operating system is 32-bit or 64-bit as with this I can provide you with accurate information.
Which Windows operating system am I running?
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?
Additionally, if you could also provide the connection type you are using with the Bose speakers (and if wired where they are being plugged in) that would be helpful as well.
Please re-post with the requested information and I would be happy to provide you with assistance. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!
