Pavillion Dm4

Hi, I have 3 year old Pavillion Dm4. My computer won't work when it is on battery. Power button has white light, and fan is working high and capsLock button light is flashing but nothing else.
If I remove battery, it starts and works with charger. Today, I got new battery but problem didn't solved.
Can I solve by myself, or I have to go to repair.

my speaker as well as headphones are not working in hp pavillion dm4 1101tx series

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp51501-52000/sp51937.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, restart the notebook and let Windows fully load.  Open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.
If you still have no audio, open windows Control Panel, open Administrative Tools and open Services.  Check that the following services are all showing as Status= Started and Start-up Type= Automatic
    Audio Service
    Multimedia Class Scheduler
    Windows Audio
    Windows Audio Endpoint Builder
If you need to make a change to any of the above, just right click the service and select Properties, then in the dropdown box next to 'Start-up type',  select Automatic and click Apply to save the change.  Then click the Start button.

  • HP Pavillion dm4 - 1002tx Entertainment Notebook - Hardware Upgrade

    Hi,
Does anyone can help me answers my silly questions regarding above subject. I have just installed a simulation games on my laptop HP PaviIlion dm4 - 1002tx Entertainment Notebook. I have problem on running it and beleive that my laptop system doesnt meet the requirements.
    Games Installed Minimum Requirement:
OS :  Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8
    Processor : 2.66GHz Intel Core2 Duo E6750 or 2.8GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+
    Memory : 2GB RAM
Graphics : 256 MB DirectX 9 / NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT or ATI RAdeon HD 2600 XT
Hard Drive : 12 GB HD Space
    Sound : DirectX 9.0c - compliant
    Games Installed Recommended :
OS :  Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8
    Processor : 3.1GHz Intel Core i3-540 or 3.3GHz Athlon II X3 455
    Memory : 4GB RAM
Graphics : 512 MB NVIDIA GT 240 or 512 MB ATI RAdeon HD 5670
Hard Drive : 12 GB HD Space
    Sound : DirectX 9.0c - compliant
    My HP Pavillion dm4 - 1002tx has 4GB RAM and Intel Core i5 -520M 2.26Ghz.
1- Can I upgrade my Processor to meet the requirements above?
2- What will be the type of upgrade to be done?
3- Is it possible to upgrade my processor from 2.26Ghz Intel Core i5 into Intel® Core™ i5-4690K Processor
    (6M Cache, up to 3.90 GHz) ?
    Please need badly your help.

No you absolutely cannot upgrade the processor from a first generation Core i5 to a 4th generation. The plug (socket) in the motherboard is not the same. The processor you refer to is not even a laptop processor, but you could not even install an equivalent laptop processor. Your real problem is I believe you have the Intel graphics, which do not meet the minimum specs in any way. You could install a processor that would be in the range necessary to play the game but that is not the whole issue. The fastest procesor you can install would be:
    Intel® Core™ i7 processor 640M, 2.80-GHz (SC turbo up to 3.33 GHz), 4-MB L3 cache
You could also install a motherboard with better graphics that are between the minimum and recommended specs.
    ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD6370 with 1024-MB of dedicated video memory [128-MB×16 DDR3, 800-MHz])
Whatever game that is has some moderately high recommended specs, but not super high. HP does currently make consumer laptops that would meet those specs. There is just no way to upgrade yours to get the necessary video performance to play it without buying a new processor and motherboard, which will not be much less than a new laptop.

That's correct, this is why I posted the link to a service guide for the laptop. The card is listed in the manual so no BIOS modding is necessary. There are 2 compatible adapters but Intel is better than Broadcom..

You can try ordering the Recovery media from HP, which unfortunately, is the only option left if you want to factory reset the system & bring back all the factory ppartitions again:

  • Pavillion dm4-smushed with no screen; recover data?

Airline took carry-on bag and put in hold. Smushed my Pavillion dm4 laptop. It turns on but no screen. The back was also cracked where the fan is so the fan is loud now. How do I recover my data?

    Hi,
Well, hopefully the Hard Drive is still in tack.  If it is, then one option might be to remove the hard drive from the damaged notebook and reinstall it in another notebook to get the data off.  It would not have to be the exact same model if you were just looking to get the data off of it.
Another option (possibly better), is to get an External Enclosure for the hard drive from the damaged notebook.  That would turn that hard drive into a portable USB drive, allowing you to simply plug it into a USB port on another computer and access the contents of the drive like you would any portable USB drive.  You can usually find an External Hard Drive Enclosures at most computer retailers or online for a pretty reasonable price.
    Good Luck,

  • Pavillion dm4-2195us

I have a pavillion dm4-2195us.....the screen is black and I can't get the back open to remove the battery .... The tab will not   move it is stuck.....

    Hello tennisdi,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I would like to make sure that you are correctly trying to remove the battery, and as well to confirm the point at which the battery is jammed. Please confirm the following steps from the Maintenance and Service Guide.
    1. Turn the computer upside down on a flat surface.
    2. Slide the battery release latch to release the battery.
    3. Pivot the battery upward and lift it out of the computer.
Now with the latch being stuck at a certain point (making sure that the notebook is powered down) have you tried sliding, and moving the battery in place, while moving the latch? Are you able to lift the battery with either your nail, or a piece of plastic?
Please let me know the outcome of the above steps.

  • HP Recovery Problem (How to recover)- Pavillion dm4

Ok Lets cut to the chase here:
    - I have a hp pavillion dm4, hdd failed, installed new hdd, went from 500gb to 1TB hdd.
    - installed hp recovery disks, error--Windows did not complete the installation.
    - I do not know what to do, so now I will download Windows 7 ISO files, and do a clean install of Windows 7 through USB. Thing is, can I just install the USB that has the ISO file, will it recognize?
    - I know why recovery disks didnt work, and can fix it by installing a program (Cyberlink Recovery Utility), and burning it onto CD. However, it never burns the CD, and I can never get it to work. It says "Update Complete" Then tells me to click yes, no, or cancel. I dont know what to do from here. If you are knowledgeble at this please help.

    >> can I just install the USB that has the ISO file, will it recognize?
No, this won't work your machine at this stage know nothing about ISO file. You need to burn to a DVD using a burning software to get a proper installtion DVD structure.
    >> can fix it by installing a program (Cyberlink Recovery Utility), and burning it onto CD.
The CD won't fit. You need to burn from OTHER machine.

  • Pavillion dm4 audio has stopped working

    Hello,
The audio on my HP dm4-2015dx (Product #LW478UA) notebook has suddenly stopped working. It runs Windows 7 Home Premium and has an Intel processor. I use Chrome as a browser.
I have updated BIOS, chipset and audio drivers.
I have run the Windows audio troubleshooter and it finds no problems and that the latest versions/updates are present.
I have checked that the Mute button is not on and that volume control is at maximum, as well as checking volume control on Youtube, etc.
I have re-downloaded the audio driver and saved it to downloads, then uninstalled the active driver, shut the machine down, pulled the battery, held the power button, restarted, entered through the BIOS menu, loaded defaults, etc. then installed the driver from downloads and set it as default.
    Nothing.
Both the Sound icon on the taskbar and when I go into Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Sound, Manage Audio Devices, Playback tab actually show the sound level going up and down when I play a Youtube video, for instance. But no audio comes out of the laptop's speakers.
Can anyone please provide some guidance to correct this issue?
    Thank you,
    Doug

    Hi Doug,
Please take a look at this document, and let me know if the troubleshooting steps help resolve your no sound from your notebook speakers.

  • Pavillion dm4 Notebook Battery Question

I know that the stock dm4 battery does not have the correct ports to be compatible with a docking station, but I am wondering if I can buy an extended battery pack that will have the correct ports to make use of a docking station. I can't find anything that explicitly states whether or not a product like this exists.
Would it be better for me to give up my docking aspirations and just buy another charging cable? I really just need something I can travel with and something that can stay wired in my desk, but the extended USB and other ports of a docking station makes that route most desirable to me.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
As mentioned above, you need a machine which has connectotr to a docking station NOT the battery. I use docking stations at work at at home as you can see here the docking station connectors do NOT sit on the batteries, they are on the machines.
You may need to buy a business laptop which has docking station connector such as Probook series as mentioned in this link. Your requirement is very simple: you need something you can carry and TWO charger units should do the task. If you wish more ports to work at home, you can buy "HP USB docking station" or just USB hub.

  • Pavillion DM4 Touchpad+HP Support Any_Productivity = -500 Satisfaction

I cannot begin to tell you the enduring frustration and remorse of buying, trying to be productive with, or working with the Support folks when buying an HP Pavilion dm4 laptop with its Alps touchpad.  Simply stated, it is near impossible to treat this laptop as a productive tool - the touchpad is hyperactive beyond belief, and try as they may have, the mighty HP Support team cannot offer a solution.  Much worse, they cannot seem to even comprehend  the problem (although there seem to be hundreds on folks on the BBs reporting the same/similar problem).  UNLESS you are sitting/standing at the most stable position, you are CONSTANTLY haunted the mousepad selecting webpage hyperlinks INCHES from your focus, Word documents where you look up and you're now typing text inside of word six sentences above, and spreadsheet anomalies from outer space.  Filling out a web form is excruciating.  Lost work,  some much lost time.
Cut off your thumbs?  Numerous chats and escalation with the Support team, including sending it back for two weeks, and "no problem found".   NO ONE UNDERSTANDS SIMPLE ENGLISH..  "I ONLY WANT A MOUSE ACTION WHEN I CLICK ON A BUTTON.. WHERE IS THAT SETTING?!?!"   Over the months they simply wear you down, and  I give up.  This laptop IS NOTHING BUT A COUCH WEBBROWSER, I cannot and will not try to type or muster anything on this cute looking piece of junk, and will never waste another moment or dollar on an HP product.   I still have a glimmer of hope that someone can get through to me with a "look stupid, just adjust this setting", but I've suffered a couple dozen false hopes of resolution.

Set the D partition active and see if it will boot.  If that fails then use the XP installation disk and run repair to get back up and running.
