Pavillion dv5-1002nr with 32-bit Vista

Using HP Recovery Disks, the notebook prematurely shuts down. The recovery was started due to stability problems resulting in Vista not loading. During some of the running of the Recovery Manager, the error message has occurred:
STOP:c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The initial session process or system process terminated unexpectantly with a status of 0x00000000 (0x0000001 0x0010037c).
The system has been shut down. Any ideas? Is Vista still on the Hard Drive?
This question was solved.

Hi,
To answer your questions.
1.  Regarding the Hard Drive, you are in no way restricted to a particular manufacturer, so you may well find it cheaper to buy the HDD from somewhere like Amazon.  According to Page 62 of your Maintenance & Service Guide your notebook can certainly take a 320Gb HDD and again, if you wanted to, you could install a 7200rpm drive if you wished ( you may lose a little battery life, but hardly noticable when weighed against the performance increase ).  I would stay away from Advanced Format HDDs though.
So to sum up, any 320Gb Sata II ( 5400rpm or 7200rpm ) HDD will be fine - an example would This Hard Drive.
2.  You can use your existing HP Recovery Discs to reinstall Vista on the new HDD - they will also reinstall all the original software that was bundled with your notebook as well as re-creating the Recovery Partition on the new HDD - a guide on using your set of Recovery Discs to install Vista on the new HDD is Here.
3.  Why the drive failed is impossible to say without further analysis - the average lifespan of a HDD is between 3 - 5 years however some fail much sooner while others last far longer.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
Best regards,
DP-K

  • Sync File Corruption with 64-bit Vista/iTunes

I'm getting some file corruption problems when trying to sync my new 16GB iPhone with the latest 64-bit iTunes (7.6.0.29). "yes I have the 64-bit version".
The sync seems to go correctly, but I have yet to be able to play any videos all the way through. Videos purchased from iTunes as well as self encoded files. All said files were working on my 60GB iPod Video with previous versions of iTunes on the same 64-bit Vista machine.
The videos will start playing fine, but will eventually reach a point in the file that was corrupted during transfer, the audio will drop out and the video will distort, then it exits from the video as if it reached the end of the file. No error messages or anything. If I play the file again, it will do the same thing at the exact same spot, so its a problem in the file. Now, if I remove the file and add it back, the file still has the same problem, but in a different location, which means the source is fine, but the copy to the device during the sync is the issue.
To test, I synced the exact same content from my notebook which is 32-bit XP, and zero problems. So I'm currently just using my notebook for syncing at the moment.
Anyone else with 64-bit Vista have a similar issue?

    Hello
I have a couple troubleshooting steps I would like you to try. I myself do not have a 64 bit Vista so I can not test this to confirm if the same issue occurs or not.
    1. Attempt to Sync content using each of the USB Ports. See if all USB Ports pose the same issue with the video. Or if you found when where it does not occur.
    2. Test on a new user on the Vista Machine. If possible take at least one or 2 movies and copy them onto a flash drive or something. And bring them into iTunes on a new user account. You may need to Authorize that user and De-authorize when your done. Does the same issue occur?
    3. If you perform a reboot on the iPhone, Then Sync Data over. Does the same issue occur?
    4. If possible could you restore the iPhone. Then Re-sync and see if same issue occurs.
    5. Is this happening with all videos? or only certain ones? Does the corruption occur at the same time frame every time? If so is it the same time frame for all videos or slightly different?
    6. Perform an Uninstall and Reinstall of iTunes on your system, See if same issue occurs.
Let us know how it goes.

  • How To Get Ipod Touch 2nd Gen to work with 64 bit Vista / Vista Ultimate

Okay, so I just got me a 2nd Gen Ipod Touch for X-Mas..I decided to take a break and get this puppy installed on my HP Tablet. Like many of you, I struggled in frustrations. I hate Apple Support. Notice their method to resolve all of their issues in regards to Itunes not working or Touch not working is to just REINSTALL ITUNES....doesnt solve anything. I have a solution.
For many of you, this may work, for those that are experiencing the same problem, please read below.
    What I am using:
    HP Tablet TX1000
Platform: Windows Vista - Ultimate 64 Bit.
I downloaded the 64 bit version of Itunes 8.02...hoping the thing will work, and still after plugging in my brand new ipod... i get an error message saying.
"The IPOD you are using is not recognized by this version of Itunes, please delete and reinstall with 64 bit version of Itunes."
However I did install the 64 bit version of ITUNES on my Vista. Before you guys delete and reinstall again. Do this first to confirm that my solution will help.
Open up Itunes, go to help, click on Run Diagnostics. Select only, Ipod/Iphone Connectivity tests and hit next.
If your Apple Mobile Device Service is RED, it means its not installed or not activated. Please read apple forums for the reactivation of AMDS. *If you are like me and did that help, and realized its not installed,* something on vista is preventing the install.
    Do the following.
    1) Delete ITUNES Completely. When asked for a restart, click No.
    2) Go to the C:\Program Files\Common Files and look for the Apple Folder and delete that puppy too.
    3) Redownload the 64 bit Installed and save to your desktop. You will need this later. DONT INSTALL NOW.
    4) Go to the Start/Circle Menu and on the bottom, type RUN in the Search and select the Run Program.
    4) Type msconfig and hit enter.
    5) When the Program pops up, in the General, DE-select normal startup and select. SELECTIVE START UP. and deselect/leave blank START UP ITEMS
    6) Move over to the Start Up Tab, DESELECT ANY VIRUS SCAN PROGRAM You Have Running.
    7) Click Apply then OKAY, and Exit that window.
    8) Now RESTART your computer.
    9) Reinstall ITUNES as done before.
    10) Go to HELP...run the diagnostics as before and your Apple Mobile Device should be green Now.
    11) Close that window. Connect your IPOD.
    12) iTUNES should now recognize your IPOD.
After it works. Go back to MSCONFIG...and on General, put Normal Start Up. Click Okay. Restart.
    Hope that works.
If IPOD is still not recognized, then its a driver issue and I dont know.
The problem I was having was due to Apple Mobile Device Services not being installed.
    Sincerely,
    Dr. SkiLLz. M.D.

This is an Answer for a Possible Solution. It worked for me and is still working. The issue I was having with my 64 bit vista, was Apple Mobile Device Service was not being installed, I dont know why. But I disabled any active running program through MSCONFIG, to allow a clean uninterrupted install of ITUNES 8.02. This allowed AMDS and drives from ITUNES to install. Hope this works for most of you.
APPLE, please review your Support Methods. Re-installing doesnt help an issue that resulted from installing.

  • T400 came with 32 bit Vista but want to upgrade to 64 bit Vista...

    Hi All,
Just received my T400 not too long ago.  It came with Vista Home Premium 32-bit preinstall.  A 64-bit Vista Home Premium was not offered.  My T400 was ordered with 4 GB of RAMs.
I have already created a set of 32-bit Vista Home Premium restore discs.  I was wondering whether I can request a set of 64-bit Vista Home Premium restore discs from Lenovo.  I wanted the 64-bit version of Roxio Creator Business Edition that should be bundled with the 64-bit version OS.
Thanks in advance for those who offered help.

The product key for your T400 will work for both 32-bit and 64-bit of the Windows Vista version that was preinstalled on your ThinkPad. You can install and legally activate Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit using that product key.

  • SOLUTION... Error updating iPod Touch with 64-bit Vista

For the last two years... I have had a horrible time updating my iPod, beginning around iTunes 7. I am running 64-bit Windows Vista and I have had trouble with the 1st Gen, 3rd Gen and 4th Gen Touches. Everytime I would attempt to upgrade it would set my iPod Touch to recovery mode and iTunes would give me a 1602 error. After this it would never recognize it again. I scoured the internet for hours upon hours to no avail. I contacted Apple support a couple of times and the best response I got was, it's probably a Vista issue.
My solution for this issue was rename my iTunes folder, uninstall iTunes completely, install an older 32-bit version of iTunes, restore my iPod (only the firmware), update iTunes, re-rename my iTunes folder, and then restore from the last back-up. For my 32GB Touch, the process took 5-6 hours. So, I basically quit updating. Finally, I was determined to find a real solution.
After unsucessfully trying several different methods, I set iTunes to run as Administrator and that solved it. I have successfully updated mine and my daughters iPod without a hitch. It doesn't make any sense to me considering that my Windows login is the Administrator... but I'm happy to have found it.
So, if anyone out there has suffered this issue... the solution that worked for me was to right click the iTunes shortcut and go to Properties. Click on the Compatibility tab and Check "Run this program as an Administrator". Click Apply and exit. Now try it and hopefully you will have the same results as me.

Many thanks Ronda for the kind invitation.

  • Getting Cinema HD to work with 64-bit Vista

Got a new Vista 64-bit machine today. My Cinema HD shows up as a "Generic PnP monitor on Intel(R) G35 Express Chipset Family". Obviously it looks awful at the 1280x800 resolution and I'd like to be able to use the Cinema HD's features fully.
    1) Is some kind of driver needed from Apple? I can't find one.
    2) Or Microsoft? Ditto.
    3) Or do I need to change the monitor type in the Control Panel somewhere? I don't know how to do so in Vista.

Well, my Mac Pro with Vista and W7 x64 show Generic PnP but the Nvidia drivers are all that is needed. On Apple computers is hardware abstraction layer support provided for (Boot Camp 2 package) that comes from Leopard OS X disc.

  • Iphone not syncing with 64-bit Vista Ultimate

hello, i order a new iphone and can not sync with itunes. windows is detecting it is connected, but not with itunes. I try to see if it can connect with my laptop(windows XP Home 32-Bit) and it can, so it was not the phone that can't sync with itunes. i try everything from uninstalling to running MSCONFIG Mode and checking that apple mobile Device is working. Itunes is up to date and windows vista is as well.
Anyone else have this problem and may have a solution to it.

    Hi,
You did not mention whether you tried creating a test admin user, that might be worth trying.
You could trying uninstalling iTunes completely and then download fresh copy and use the 'right-click' then 'run as admin' approach to installing itunes.
How to completely uninstall iTunes... http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305409
You could try connecting the phone using forced recovery as described here... http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305797
    You do meet the requirements...
    Windows system requirements
    * PC with USB 2.0 port
    * Windows Vista Home Premium, Business, Enterprise, or Ultimate Edition; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later
    * iTunes 7.5 or later
Let me know if anything mentioned worked... Good Luck!

  • No audio with 64 bit Vista Ultimate, red light in headphone jack

So I've been searching these forums for the last several hours, trying to find some helpful tidbit of knowledge to help me in this situation.  I have whatever the latest version of bootcamp installed, and just did a full install of Windows Vista Ultimate (64 bit).  With relative ease, I got everything working except for sound.  With the generic driver off the Snow Leopard install disk, it tries to tell me it's working, but there is obviously no sound.  The red light inside the headphone jack stays on all the time, and I have tried all the dumb tricks suggested for that issue too.  I have unsuccessfully manually installed the latest realtek driver (2.28), and even tried both the 32 bit and the 64 bit. The 32 obviously does nothing, but with the 64 it tells me the device won't start, and shows that obnoxious yellow exclaimation point.  Just trying to progress beyond this point so I can hear what I am trying to do in windows.  Please help!

Same problem here. Daily I plug in speakers at the office, then rely on internal speakers while on the road/at home. I use old analogue speakers that go into the headphone jack.
I don't think i have any firewire audio out devices, but think i might put my hands on a USB one, so will try a varient of that trick.
tried the "wiggle the plug" solutions, but no luck.
I have to say, after something like 20+ years of using apple products (IIC was my first), my instinct here is that this is a software issue. People are getting sound out of a variety of devices (USB, Firewire, headphone plug) and the problem is intermittant but recurring. I don't wonder if it didn't start w/ the last iTunes update (to 4.9)? just a guess there. (although note that when i was fiddling w/ iTunes, the system speed and iTunes slowed way down.
Apple, please note there are two other related threads on this, one small at
    Topic: "Sound optical out/ Headphone"
and a very large one (which may conflate several problems) at

  • Will PrE4 work with 64 bit Vista or Windows 7?

    Hi,
Will be upgrading my computer soon and hope to keep using Premiere Elements 4.  Does anyone know about any compatibility issues with the latest OS's?

    jkmck
I have seen numerous reports of users successfully running Premiere Elements 7 in Windows 7 64 bit and Windows Vista 64 bit in the 32 bit compatibility mode of the 64 bit operating systems. But, check out the AdobeTech Note on the topic:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/403/kb403402.html
As for Premiere Elements 4...I know of at least 1 user who claims to be using it successfully in a Vista Ultimate 64 bit operating system. I am sure there are probably more, but I have not come across any more reports for what is now an older version.

  • Pavillion dv5-1002nr says: "hard disk test" hard disk not exist

how do i fix this myself or can i?

    Hi
It sounds like the hard drive has failed and needs to be replaced.
That is a fairly easy job for someone to do themselves.
However you will either need to have a set of recovery disks to reinstall the operating system or purchase some.
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook. See chapter 4, pages 62 and 63 for the procedures on replacing the hard drive.  Don't throw it away because you will need to remove the caddy and screws to use on  the new one you buy.

  • Easy Print VI panel not working with 64-bit windows vista

We have a significantly sized application developed in Labview 8.2.1 that is designed to work on a standalone computer. This application uses "Easy Print VI Panel" to print report pages which are basically front panels of various VIs. The application also prints some report pages using the "Print Report" module. Typically we use the application builder and use the generated installer to install the application on a target computer. We also include the appropriate Run-Time engine and NI VISA 4.1. The applications works exactly as designed on all versions of 32-bit Windows (ME, XP, Vista). Now, when this application was installed on a machine running Windows Vista 64-bit, attempts to print reports resulted in a lot of blank pages. I noticed that the report pages that are based on the "Easy Print VI Panel" module were blank whereas the ones that are based on the "Print Report" module were not blank.
To further troubleshoot, I created a very small application. The only function of this application is to use the "Easy Print VI Panel" to print the front panel of another VI that I bundled inside the application. I observed the same behavior.
From what I can tell, either:
    1. "Easy Print VI Panel" with Labview 8.2.1 is not compatible with Windows Vista 64-bit
    2. The Labview Run-Time Engine 8.2.1 has some incompatibility with Windows Vista 64-bit (I have not tried to install the full development system on the 64-bit Vista computer)
Any insights as to what may be causing this? or does anyone know of a fix for this issue. I am attaching the latter simple test code to the post.
    Thanks

Sorry Sam, I couldn't get my hands on a 64-bit Vista machine to tinker with your VI. I got a little obsessed with trying to get ahold of a computer to test it out on, that I overlooked actually taking the time to think about the problem. But, now that I'm thinking about it, which operating system did you build this application on? Sometimes an application that was built in another OS than it's running on will have problems caused by the differences in the OS. I'd like to try building the application in 64-bit Vista and deploying it to another 64-bit Vista machine, but unfortunately, I can't test this out myself. My gut feeling is that the application is acting up because it wasn't built in 64-bit Vista, not because the Easy Print VI or the 8.2.1 Run-Time Engine themselves are incompatible with 64-bit Vista. If you can, please test out that theory. That will definitely help determine if it's truly a bug or not.

  • QTVR and 64-Bit Vista

My company uses QTVR files extensively in our projects. We recently started buying new workstations with 64-bit Vista. Now none of our QTVR files can be viewed on the new workstations. Apparently this is a known problem and Apple has not addressed it. 7.6 came out today and guess what, it still doesn't work. Come on Apple when is this going to be addressed?
I'm a Mac fan and have them at home. I would love to get Macs into the office, but when things like this happen its hard to make that recommendation.

  • Trying to get 32-bit Vista to see more than 2.5 gb of my 4gb ram - T500

    Hello all,
I've been reading what I'm able to find on the subject, and have tried the following suggestions from (http://www.ocmodshop.com/ocmodshop.aspx?a=989) to bump up the amount of physical ram that Vista sees. I've tried to forceenable pae, and then :
    Type BCDedit /set nx AlwaysOff
    Type BCDedit /set pae ForceEnable
Setting DEP off, and neither had any effect on the physical RAM available. I read a few posts hinting that these options may be unecessary in SP1 of vista as well. So, here are my questions :
    1. Is it possible for the T500 with 32-bit Vista to address more than 2.5gb of  physical ram?
    2. If so, how can I do it?
    3. Am I eligible for a 64-bit version of Vista with the recent purchase of my T500 and Vista Business?
Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks much all....

Keep rebooting.  At some point your system will recognize the additional ram.
My system did the same thing as yours.  At first it showed an additional 54mb or so.
Then all of sudden it was up to 3,065mb.  I can't remember how many reboots before
the big jump occurred.  I am guessing 3 to 4 more reboots over a day or two.
I don't know why it takes several reboots before the system will recognized the additional ram.

I bought a T500 laptop with 32 bit Vista business installed, now I am thinking to order a free upgrading  64 bit Windows 7 professional, dose anybody know it is possible? I know I need to do a fresh installation if I want a 64 bit windows 7 on a 32 bit OS PC, but I don't care. I am wondering if I can order a 64 bit Windows 7 from lenovo, it seems ok if I go through the Lenovo online ordering system, but I am not sure what will happen to my order in the end, has anyone tried this?

  • 64 bit Vista

When I bought my machine with 64 bit vista it came with both 32 and 64 bit versions of IE7 installed.  Flash only worked on the 32 bit version but that was ok.
When IE7 got too far out of date to work at some sites I upgraded to IE8 for the 64 bit version.  Without asking it also replaced the 32 bit version.  I then noticed Flash worked fine on both.  All went well until a couple of months ago when I started getting messages to upgrade to the new Flash player.  I put it off for a while because I'm a strong believer in "If it isn't broke don't fix it!"  When I finally gave in and installed the update I lost my ability to play Flash on my system.  I tried a system restore but there was no going back.
I see that the new version doesn't work with 64 bit vista, but I had something that was working and I would like it back.  There have got to be a million 64 bit vista machines out here and I can't believe we are just being written off.  There is no reason I should have to upgrade to windows 7 just to get something back that I had before.  Please help.

Not ready for that nuclear option yet..
Where it did fix some files I did a restart and tried u-tube again.  Still no flash.
Shut everything down and tried a system restore.  It only offered one restore point on 1/12 so I took it.  Everything seemed to go well but in the end it said it had been unsuccessful.
Whatever, the system is well behaved otherwise.
Tried running flash again and noticed at the bottom of the blank video frame
"Upgrade to Flash Player 10 for improved playback performance. Upgrade Now or More Info."
Why would it tell me to upgrade to 10 when 11 is installed?  Sounds like there are still some old files there, probably in those folders I never deleted when doing the clean install.
For the hell of it I clicked "upgrade now" and let it install Flash 11 again.  It also offered google chrome, which I took.  When I tried to install it, it told me it was already installed and opened a IE8 window.  Tried u-tube and got the same no go.  Is there something different I should be doing with Chrome?  It sounds like it should work without IE.
Anyway, this is what I've got.  What do I need for an uninstaller so I can try a clean install, deleting all the old files?
