Pavillion DV6-2112sa BIOS error, yet BIOS is up to date...

Hi,
For the last few days I have been getting the blinking num-lock and caps error (twice flashing), which I have learnt indicated BIOS failure.
I have ran through the updates only to find that the current version installed is correct and up to date.
Does this flashing error indicate anything else? Should I reinstall the same BIOS version anyway?
Thanks!
Sarah

Your BIOS ROM file is corrupt.
Your notebook has the UEFI environment installed so you can do it from powering the notebook on and tapping the Esc key to invoke the start menu. Select F2 to invoke the PC Advanced Diagnostics menu.
Select Firmware management and install the BIOS from there. Fortunately the UEFI environment is safe and allows BIOS recover, unlike earlier model notebooks and PCs.

  • HP Pavilion dv6-6023tx Entertainment Notebook PC Will not start up. Suspect BIOS error.

    Hi guys,
Was recently using my HP Pavilion dv6-6023tx Entertainment Notebook PC and the next day went to use it and the computer would not boot. Turns on and I get a black screen with the capslock light flashing at me. It flashes twice which is why I suspect I have a Bios error. I have tried flashing the bios but cannot get the computer to flash. Maybe I am flashing the computer the wrong way.
Can someone please provide there expertise and the proper way to flash this type of computer.
Thanks for the help in advance.
    - Ben.

    Hi xdfrightener,
Welcome to the HP Community! You are correct that two flashes indicates a BIOS corruption. The only thing that I can recommend is doing a Restore of the BIOS. How long have you had the notebook for?

  • Pavillion DV6 2020sa bios corrupt, wont take recovery. please help.

hi, thanks to anyone that has any input on this problem its much appriciated,
I am looking at my brothers laptop, pavillion DV6 2020sa he had a virus lock the screen, he held the power button to switch it off, upon reboot he gets the blank screen and flashing leds (2 flashes) upon lookin up it says bios corrupt, i have downloaded the bios from HP tis 3635.bin and have put in on a USB drive, the sticker under the battery also says 3635, so im confident i have the right one.
I then hold the win + B button and then power, it starts, and shortly after the USB stick light up and flashes, then stops, then flashes again, at that point i get 6 beeps, then silence, then i get 5 slow beeps, i have read this is meant to happen, but then its meant to resart, and this is the bit that dont happen, it dont do anything, when i restart it, it just does the same flashing lights.
am i doing something wrong, or something im missing.
    Thanks again for any help.
    Jamie.

You will need an eeprom programmer to reprogram a new BIOS chip with a fresh BIOS file. It takes a special hot air tool to successsfully remove and replace a notebook BIOS chip. This is not just normal soldering. This is what real electronics technicians and workers at an electronics R&D lab and workers on the assembly line at manufacturer do. Unless you just happen to be an electronics enthusiast or engineer, and I am guessing you are not since you asked these questions, this may be out of your league. If you feel adventurous and have  your brother's permission to use his notebook as a guinea pig...go for it! It is not as easy as the guy in the video made it look. He is a trained technician and  does it for a living.

  • Tecra S1 boots correctly but does not work properly and has BIOS error beeps

Toshiba S1 has started to crash regularly after a certain period of use.
    Sometimes: BIOS error beeps: Short-short-long.
Sometimes: Bluescreen of reduced screen size/reduced resolution.
Sometimes: Just crashes (frozen) and has to be shut off manually.
As Toshiba uses its own BIOS, does anyone know what these beep sounds mean or can provide support?
Is it a hardware / connection problem between graphic card and monitor or is it a memory error?

    Hi,
did you tried to make a memory test? If not, I would suggest you to make it. For such tests I would prefer using "memtest86" (www.memtest86.com)
Otherwise I would assume that your mainboard is malfunctioning and you will have to bring your machine to an local ASP.
If you need help finding an ASP, here is a good site:

  • Dc7700 Booting randomly // BIOS error

    Hey!
I am having trouble with my dc7700 computer, it has started booting randomly. This occurs, like mentoned, randomly. There is no spesific program that is "crashing" or forcing the computer to boot. It sometimes boots when I am doing nothing on it, only windows running. With booting I mean that the computer "resets" itself and starts to power back on.
I have tried to dust the computer and fans, removed memory and installed back in diffrent order. I am out of solutions, and I need your help!
Also I am having this weird BIOS error message every time the computer is turned on. Should I (like the error message tells me) update the BIOS or Managment engine firmware. If I should, could someone link me the right firmwares?
    Error message:
    System spectifications:
    Processor: Intel Core 2 duo
    Memory: 2GB DDR
    VideoCard: ATI Radeon X550
Hard Drive: 250GB (Don't remember the model, ask if neccessary)
(Please ask if you need more information)
I do not know where to start fixing this booting problem. What should be my next move?

PS. I'm sorry if this is wrong forum section, I wasn't  sure where to post...

    Hi:
I would go back and remove all but one memory module.
Test each one individually to see if one of them is intermittently flaky.
If the machine crashes with the one stick, remove that one try the next one and so on.
If the machine stops crashing, you have found a faulty memory module and you can replace it.
Next thing to check if the PC crashes with all memory chips tested individually would be to carefully inspect the motherboard for bulging, or leaking capacitors (the can shaped objects on the motherboard).  Bad caps will emit gasses that cause the top of the can to swell and bulge.
Bad capacitors will cause intermittent freezes, crashes, random reboots, all kinds of nasty things.
Firmware error.  That one I don't know.
There is only one ME firmware update and I suggest you carefully read the instructions!

  • I have an HP Pavilion a 1035c desktop. At boot I get BIOS error 04-3. New 2TB drive.

I have an HP Pavilion a1035c desktop.  I am trying to install a Hitachi 2TB drive.  The drive was cloned from the original drive in the system using Norton Ghost.  As an additional drive on the computer everything seems fine but when I try to boot up using the big drive only I get BIOS error 04-3.

    Tim, welcome to the forum.
Do you have two hard drives connected when attempting to boot from the 2TB drive?  If so, I suggest disconnecting the the second hard drive to see if that helps.  Also, if you haven't done so, updating to XP SP3 may help.

  • Boot Up BIOS Error Beeps????

I have installed WinXP SP2 and my system is booting fine.  When I boot my system up however I get what sounds like BIOS error beeps (AMI 1.3).  I've scanned the threads and checked the beep pattern against the documented patterns but cannot find a match.  The beeps make the following pattern:
(all short beeps) - high beep, pause, high beep, low beep, high beep, low beep.
anyone else experience this?  since its beeping there must be something the BIOS is trying to tell me I just can't figure out what it is.  I did reset the memory sticks since many of the error beep codes refer to memory, but that didn't stop the beeping.  Any help is appreciated.

I punted...  Never did find out why this board and BIOS was giving me stupid error beeps.  I returned this MSI board and got an Intel D925XCV board and 99% of the problems I was encountering - and it appears the rest of you are encountering went away.  Everything including my new SATA drive installed perfectly the first time.  Food for thought...

    Hi, Klinge.
You are one of the more-experienced members of HP's Forums — but most folks here aren't as tech-savvy; if you had searched for any of the following :
Tablet won't boot, startup problem, ElitePad 900, startup error ...
You would have found several useful suggestions in each of those corresponding search results.
As it turns out, you stumbled upon one of the solutions to startup issues caused by allowing the battery to become completely drained; I'm pleased that you've recovered use of your ElitePad — without having to restore any software.
    Enjoy!

my hp elitebook 6930p shows BIOS error on starting

    Hi:
Yes you can get any version of W7 that the product key on your notebook is good for at the link below.
Use the applicable SP1 Media Refresh ISO file as they are the latest ones.
    http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/14709-Windows-7-Digital-River-direct-links-Multiple-Languag...
After you download the ISO file make sure you got the whole advertised file size.
Then use this tool to transfer the ISO file to a 4 GB USB flash drive or DVD.
The tool will also make the media bootable.

  • Internal Battery Error HP Pavillion dv6 Prod# VM222UA#ABA

I have an HP Pavillion dv6, Product # VM222UA#ABA, it am getting an internal error notice with regularity.  How do I go about replacing the battery, how do i find the battery to replace.  As well I need to replace the external battery.  Where do i get the batteries and what type?

    Hi,
First thing to check: the label of the battery which shows many information including part number. You can use part # to order from HP, from your local computer shops or from online stores. Yoy can also use the following chart to find the right battery:

Note: your machine is a dv6 "HP Pavilion dv6-1355dx".

  • Bios error

I downloaded the newest version of the bios.  Under system info, it identifies this newest bios as the bios.  But the computer shuts down every 30 minutes or so.  The computer shuts down.  Then it restarts, on its own, and a message comes up, saying "The bios is corrupt or missing (error code 501)." I tried recovering the bios using a press key combination, but it doesn't work.  I don't think the computer supports this function.   I do have a HP_Tools volume.  It has a folder "Hewlett Packard/Bios/Current" with files "68SAD" and "68SAD.sig".  The "Previous" folder has the same files.  The "New" folder is empty. I've always updated the Bios from the system drive, rather than from an external Flash drive.  I don't know if this matters or not.   I retried updating the Bios several times, thinking I did something wrong.  The computer still keeps shutting down, on its own, while doing things.  Then it restarts on its own with the "bios is corrupt or missing" message.  I can't turn off the computer without it restarting on its own and coming up with that message.   I'm desperate.

Normally there is an eight decimal digit lockout code. That is what I need to be able to help you.
Otherwise your options are a bit limited. You can have the BIOS CMOS chip replaced by HP or a BIOS repair company.
There is also the option of using a hardcore utility such as Darik's Boot CD on a usb flashdrive. Darik's Boot utilities are not really suitable for novices.

    Hi there @Robin912
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.
I understand that you are looking for help with installing Linux/Ubuntu on your notebook. Unfortunately that is not among the supported operating systems for this model, and so there are no customized drivers for your notebook for Linux/Ubuntu.
