Pavillion G7 black screen

Hi,
Pc worked properly, and when closing the lid I've heard clicking noise. Next day I got a black screen, I can hear a noise from inside that components work ( not quite sure which one), and there is no any indicator light except for the one on start button. Tried to locate clicking noise and found out it is comming from the hinge right above start button.
Tried to resolve an issue by  following directions for black screen troubleshots: turning PC off/ removing battery, trying to start in safe mode, connection external monitor  ( did not get the picture on it).
Is there any possibility to recover the data from that pc ?
I appreciate any suggestion.

  • HP Pavillion Beats black screen

I keep getting a black screen on my HP Pavillion Beats 15z touch.  My only option is to do a hard reboot to get my pc back.  Is this a known issue? How can I resolve it?

Try a hard reset, works sometimes.Disconnect all external devices first.
    1-remove power cord and battery
2-press power button for 30 seconds
3-reinstall only power cord for first startup.
    4-power on

  • Pavillion dv7 new hard drive goes to black screen with cursor

A couple weeks ago my computer suddenly started going realy slow so I rebooted, and it wouldnt boot. Just gave me an error in the upper left corner (I dont remember the exact message). Anyway I took it to a family fried who fixes computers he said the hard drive probably had a bad boot sector. We couldnt boot to it, but he could read from it by plugging it into his own computer like an external.
Anyway we got the new hard drive in (upgraded from 320g to 500g) as well as the old one with the intention of making it a slave drive.  I tried putting in a windows 7 install disk (originally had vista), when I turn it on first I see the hp splash screen, then it says "windows is loading files" and goes to a "windows is starting" splash screen. After that its just a black screen with an arrow cursor and doesnt appear to be doing anything else.
Any idea what the problem might be? Is it just trying to install to the wrong drive? Or could something more serious be wrong like the processor or motherboard that would mean the whole thing is trash now?

  • My HP Pavillion dv4 has a black screen and blinking Caps and Num lock

BEFORE anyone says to take out everything and press the start button for however many seconds, i've tried that. I've also tryed counting blinks, but there seems to be no pause in blinks, thus continuous blinking.
SO, recently i have updated my laptop, i let it shut off but i did not choose for it to restart. Today when i tried to turn it on, the screen was black, did not turn on and the caps lock and the num lock have been blinking continuosly, without pattern. The touch screen volume and such is also on and after a few seconds the fan turns on. There is no loud beep, just the regular startup soft beep. So, i would like to know, if anyone knows what i can do, before i have to go and pay to fix this thing.

i have took it to the apple store, i am out of warranty and they said it is a hardware problem, god knows whats causing the black screen it is fine when on as i got it fixed at a local phone shop but when the phone dies then there is no bringing it back to life.

  • Hp pavillion laptop with xp start up displays black screen with pointer

Start up results in ms logo an turns to black screen with pointer. Fan and led function. No error codes. Maybe lsasse.exe file problem but cannot get to command prompt with esc, f8, f10 options. How do I get a command prompt? Tried all boot tricks including holding down on bottom to bleed power after removal of battery & power cord. Help?

Yeah probably it died suddenly and some files on the hard drive are corrupt. Can you tap F8 as you power on and get into a menu that includes safe mode? If so choose safe mode with command prompt and when you can get to a command prompt type
    chkdsk C: /r
and hit enter and let the full chkdsk utility run. It might take a couple hours but it will fix file system errors on the hard drive and likely allow you to boot again, now that we know there is nothing mechanically wrong with the drive. If this does not work we can link you to a Windows 7 32 bit repair disk that will allow you to do the same thing.

  • Black screen on startup with a mouse pointer but can't do anything???

    Hello,
I've read all the posts in regards to this topic.  Nothing has worked.  I have my brothers HP laptop with Windows Vista.  I thought the Hard Drive (HD) crashed because all I had on start up was a black screen with a cursor.  When booting I am given the option to start up in Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, and Safe Mode with Networking.  No matter which one I choose I get the same thing - black screen with a cursor.  I can move the cursor around.  Nothing happens when I hit Ctrl+Alt+Del.  When I hit the **bleep** key 5 times the widow comes up about the Sticky Keys - the paragraph asks me if I want to enable them but does not give the the option to click on a "yes" or "no";  My only option is to click the X to close the window.  If I use the short cut keys for the Windows Utility (windows key = u) I get an error message basically saying it can't find the file.
I have a Rocketfish HD Enclosure for SATA drives.  So, I removed the HD from the HP and plugged it into my other computer (an Acer) with the enclosure.  I ran Norton AVI & Spy Sweeper.  Norton removed & resolved 2 Trojan viruses.  My brother was not using Norton or Kaspersky, or McAfee - or any other AVI software that is worthy... obviously - he got 2 Trojans!  Spy Sweeper ran overnight and half a day (16 hours) - didn't finish and found nothing during that really long time span.  He apparently partitioned his HD himself.  When I hook it up to my computer it shows up as 3 different HD's.  One appears to be just back up files and that part of the partition is FULL.  One has pretty much nothing on it, and the other appears to be the main one he is/was using because that's where all the program files are.  I can successfully navigate through all 3 partitions.  I copied all his documents, pictures, files, Mp3's, etc to my own external HD.  I can see his entire OS is there... his HD is FINE as far as I'm concerned.
I put it back into his laptop and the same thing happens... black screen with cursor.
I can get into BIOS.  In BIOS I ran the HD diagnostic, it says to replace the HD.  I let it go ahead and do the memory diagnostic test in BIOS for the heck of it and of course that's fine - he's got 4gb.
I did something else in BIOS - restoring?  It restarted and did nothing...
I tried hooking up MY own personal old HD (with entire OS still on it) via my SATA enclosure  to his laptop and still nothing... so, it won't recognize any OS.
I have ruled out - in my belief that his HD is okay.  Especially now that I have removed the viruses.
I have not figured out what the problem is though.  I can't get in - it seems to not recognize the HD - it won't boot from the HD - I can't get into C:\ from anywhere to even try to get up Windows Explorer.
I'm thinking other hardware failure... fried motherboard?
So, I'm not completely computer illiterate.  But, hardware trouble shooting is not something I've had much hands on experience with.  I can write lines of code in several languages... but hardware troubleshooting does not seem to be my best subject... (I'm still in school for my BS in IT).
My brother thinks his laptop is trash - I think his HD is okay - he may still be able to use it as an external HD if he gets an HD SATA enclosure like mine.  But, this poor laptop has survived Hurricane Gustav - where he lost his home in Baton Rouge, LA and therefore I'd like to fix it, I know I can fix it, but I have to know what's wrong with it in order to fix it...
I'd appreciate any useful suggestions!  If it is a motherboard issue... I wonder how hard they are to replace
    P.S. - it's a HP Pavillion dv6500 Entertainment PC
P.S.S. - I'm going to open it all up tomorrow & clean it - who knows the last time he cleaned it, if there's a lot of dust in there it could be a big problem.  Just running it today it got VERY hot and the fans seem to be running very loud (as compared to my Acer laptop).

A hard drive if it has failed will sometimes allow you to boot into windows but may not work completely (Eg: In a scenario, where system partition ;where windows is installed works fine but logical partition of hard drive has gone bad).
On certain conditions, if the hard drive is on verge of failure may/may not respond completely. I would suggest you to run a diagnostics using Seagate Seatools which works on any hard drive irrespective of manufacturer to actually confirm if your hard drive has failed.
Also, any hard drive can fail in spite of it been 1yr old or 1day old as its all manufactured in bulk and most of it comes from China

  • Consumer IR drive not loading, bluescreens and black screens?

I have an HP Pavillion dv4 Notebook PC that I purchased in early summer, 2010. It's got Windows 7 64-bit, 4 GBs of RAM, and still is as fast as it was when I bought it, however I'm having tons of crashes, so first I tried to figure out the problem myself. I get several different BlueScreens, with these error messages:
    "BAD_POOL_HEADER"
    "BAD_POOL_FOOTER"
    "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL"
    "MEMORY_MANAGEMENT"
and system service exceptions. Along with bluescreens, the computer screen will freeze, crash and have skewed graphics, like lines or boxes, and have black screens. Often on boots, the computer will start up, but the screen will be black and the num and caps lock keys will flash 4 times, then pause, then flash 4 times again. After leaving it like this for a while, the computer will eventually start up like nothing happened. There's also been bluescreen loops when I boot the computer up occasionally, and sometimes I'll be using it and the screen will just go black, but the LED lights will all still be on. This has been going on for a while, but recently it's gotten progressively worse, crashing more often.
To try to solve the problem, I first scanned my computer for any malicious software, several times, and all of the scans had come up negative. So, it wasn't a virus. I updated EVERYTHING I possibly could, all drivers and such, still no fix. As a last resort, I used the system recovery option to return my computer to the factory state. Still, no fix. By this point, I know it is definitely a hardware problem.
I ran my computer in safe mode to see if everything was functioning as it should be, and found that the system couldn't load the "Consumer IR" drive, and I think this may have to do something with the problem.
    Any ideas?

  • Vga black screen

I have a HP Pavillion P6751c with a radon hd 4200 and I  have two monitor a Hp 2311x and a asus vh236h and I want to make it dual monitor (I've done it before) the hp 2311x monitor is connected with a dvi and the asus is connected with a vga. before i had both working perfectly., but suddenly my asus monitor became too dark or just a black screen. so I try updating the driver, changing the cable and changing to another monitor, but nothing change. but dvi is doing ok and nothing wrong only the vga is wrong. How do i fix it?

While in the area discussed in my previous post, when the detect button is clicked, did the white number show on the monitor that is dark, even faintly?  If no, then perhaps try that monitor on another PC or try a different monitor on the PC in question's VGA port.  I suspect the monitor or PC has a defective VGA port.  If you find it is the PC fault, try checking the BIOS settings to see if the onboard graphics is enabled.

  • Black Screen After BIOS Update P6520f

    Hi All,
I attempted to install the BIOS update for the Pavillion P6520f as recommended by HP for sleep mode issues. The BIOS update was downloaded and began installing when the computer BSOD'd. I now have no indication there is any BIOS at all available for startup. The computer powers up, but no BIOS screen. No beeps. It's just a black screen.
Is there any fix available for this issue?
    Many thanks in advance.

First unplug your computer, and hold the power button for 30 seconds minimum. Replug the power back in and then see if it boots. If that fails, see if you can do a rollback for the update.
I have had an issue with an update and mobo failure. I doubt its the case, but it does happen, where the correct thing discovers malfunction.

Last night it was working fine, but this morning i turned it on and the HP logo screen comes up and then it goes to a black screen with a white underscore blinking in the left top corner. And it stays this way. Ive tried to enter the system recovery option with pressing the correct button but it does nothing. How do i fix this issue?

  • Start-up problems, black screen or open firmware

My iBook G4 1.33GHz Dual USB, with 1 gb RAM memory has been troublesome lately. It's installed with the latest version of OS 10.4.9
When starting up the ibook, it will sometimes only show a black screen after the boot chime. Repeated force restart sometimes makes it boot up the open firmware (white screen).
Then I see the error message:
    "Illegal instructions at: %SRR0:ff85e778 %SRR1:00081000"
When I continue on with "mac-boot", I get the blue screen with a question marked box. So it can't find the startup disk.
This usually only happens when I'm done working for the day and close the lid on my ibook without manually clicking on the sleep mode when I put in in my drawer,. I've seen several times that the screen is still on when I close the lid, so it will continue to burn battery time.
I've managed to get the ibook to boot properly after removing the battery and letting it "cool-down" for 15-20 min. Also, zapping pram, vram sometimes works, but I don't know how much that actually helped. It worked once when I typed in the reset-nvram in the open firmware screen too.
I'd rather not have this happen at all! Any suggestions? Is this the much-talked about RAM memory failure?
Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

    HI,
*"I get the blue screen with a question marked box."*
That can mean several things. One, the drive is failing. Two, your iBook can't find a System Folder to boot from. Try booting while holding down the Option key which will prompt the Startup Manager window.
    MemTest
Boot from your install disk and check the hard disk for errors.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window where you see Capacity and Available. Make sure there is always 15% free disk space. Not enough disk space can cause directory corruption.
If you cannot boot from your install disk, try booting in Safe Mode
A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac
    Carolyn

  • My iMac 8.1 was slowing down and had permissions problems. I backed everything up, and then re-installed. Now all I get is a black screen. Power+D gives me a hardware error message: HDD-1336. Help!

My iMac 8.1 (10.6.8 ) was slowing down and had recurrent permissions problems, mostly with Java. I backed everything up, and then re-installed from time machine. Now all I get is a black screen which says I need to reboot. Power+D gives me a hardware error message: 4 MOT/1/40000003: HDD-1336 or HDD-1327. When I reboot from the OSX CD and start disc utilities everything checks out OK. When I reload 10.5.2 from the OSX CD everything seems to work OK and no more permissions problems. But then I loose all my email and safari stuff. Anyone have any ideas short of going back to my old PC?

Thanks for the help. No point in fooling around with it any more. Will I be able to use it as a monitor if I get a mimi mac?
    Cheers. Don
No unfortunatley it's too old, you are referring to Target Display Mode which became avialble in 2009, your 2008 needs to have the HD replaced. I'd still do that if everything else is OK or you can simply buy a new MM and display or even a new iMac  or an Apple refurbished iMac to save money.
