  • Laptop keyboard giving wrong characters

    Hi there,
I am having HP pavillion DV 2760 en since early 2008 and facing these days a very unique problem.
when I press ASDFJKL:" and ENTER keys they print another charater of lower string by pressing of single key.
    like charters prints this way
    A = ZA
    s = xs
    d = cd
    : = /; etc
I have gone through many forums and have checked there is no NUMLOCK issue at all and some of the peoples suggested cleanining and some replacing the keyboard. Can you please guide me how this problem can be solved?
My  Left Arrow key also went insane it works upside down. Is it a virus or is it something hardwre issue. yeah there's nothing spilled over any sort of liquid on my keyboard.
I am using VISTA home edition 32bit and yeah I had changed recently DSL router and after that this problem became very prominent but I remember keyboard used to malfunction earlier as well like printing " instead of @ and vice versa. I hope this much details would be enough and waiting for your your feedback as its making me mad while working..
    Thanks
    Zee

    Hi,
    Thank you for your feedback.
I will check this way also. But it seems to be solved for now but not for arrow keys actually. I was told to shut dowm system and take out battery for some time. And turning it on my keys were back in normal except arrow keys...
I tried to clean my keyboard and there I saw some dust and hair actually stuck inside I have cleaned them to maximum possible but now the issue is there's a plastic covering back on the alluminium or mettalic lower part of the keyboard. it is transparent and looks glued.  If i rip off this sheet to clean the dust and particles stuck between that sheet and metal part then  my question is what kind of glue to be used to put it back. You can see at step3 and step 4 here.

my laptop keyboard has stopped workin suddenly... i was entaered pasword and as the desktop opened the keyboard working stopped, my notebook is Pavillion-g6 2136tx and i've installed windows 8 os. please help me as soon as possible......

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to see if this will launch the Start-up Menu - if it does, select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.

  • My left shift key on Macbook Pro Retina (15") is behaving like the F11 key (show/hide open windows).  The key behaves the same for the laptop keyboard and for an external Apple keyboard?  This just started in last week after 6 months of use

My left shift key on Macbook Pro Retina (15") is behaving like the F11 key (show/hide open windows).
The left shift key behaves the same on the laptop keyboard and on an external Apple keyboard.
This just started in last week after 6 months of use.  The right shift key and other keys on the keyboard all appear to work correctly.
    Suggestions greatly appreciated.

I have a solution to this issue now after a discussion with Apple Support.  Some where in the last few weeks, there was a change in the key that would do a Show Desktop under the Mission Control settings in the System Preferences.  Even though the key sequence that was shown for the Show Desktop setting did not include the Left SHift key, by changing this first to having no key sequence and applying that and then changing it back to the F11 key, the Left SHift key issue that I was having has cleared up.
A second issue that was uncovered was that the SSD had some issues (uncovered when I ran Disk Utility using the Repair Disk key).  I had to restart and use the Disk Utility through the Command R sequence to get to the stand alone Disk Utility.  The SSD appears to be running better as a result as well.
Hope that this is of use to someone else in the future.

  • Windows 8 HP Pavillion Laptop won't boot from cd?

    Hello everyone,
I have a Windows 8 HP Pavillion Laptop. I've forgotten the password to my account, but I wasn't worried because I had a recovery disk. However, even with the cd in the laptop, I've directed to the login page each time. I want the cd to run instead and recover my account! I've enabled Legacy in BIOS and disable Safe Boot, and I've even changed startup order to put CD startup first. None of it's working though. Can anyone help me? I'd really like to access my laptop soon.
    Thanks,
    Alice

  • Ios upgrade stopped my external hard drives and keep changing my laptop keyboards

Latest ios upgrade stopped my computers from contacting and saving in my external hard drives and keeps changing my laptop keyboards everytime I turn it on. Please Apple solve this because I know that many people suffer from this. If you do not I will stop my almost 30 year old use of Apples.

iOS has nothing to do with devices connected to your computer.  It also has nothing to do with your keyboard.  What have you done and when?

  • Is there a way to have OSX ignore the input from the laptop keyboard when an external one is attached?

My cat tends to try to lie across my laptop keyboard, but I use the external bluetooth one would love it if there was a software program that would notice the exernal one and turn off the internal one.

Not officially. You'll have to check Google or the Mac App Store and see if there are any apps that do that.

  • Inherent design flaw in HP laptop keyboards

Anyone struggling with random behaviour when typing quickly (windows shutting down, blocks of text being deleted etc) may be interested to know that there is a flaw in HP laptop keyboards. This has been seen on an HP550 laptop, it's not clear how many other models contain the same flaw.
They have implemented shortcuts in the keyboard firmware such that Right-Shift together with two other keys creates a completely new keycode. For example Right-Shift + N + U, generates a Ctrl+A keycode. Right-Shift + R + T generates a Plus(+) keycode. The problem is that the timing in their implementation is completely flawed, so anyone who types fast / touch types will find that these keycodes are generated during normal typing. You will find that while typing a block of text, the whole lot is suddenly deleted, or the window you are working with is closed down, and several other problems. Essentially you press one thing on the keyboard and the keyboard does something else completely.
This flawed design is only implemented on the Right-Shift key. Those of you who do not use the Right-Shift key while touch-typing will not get this issue.
If you do use Right-Shift, however, you will need to retrain yourself to touch-typing using the Left-Shift key or otherwise modify your touch-typing. HP do not acknowledge that this is a flaw, claiming that it is "a feature not a bug", despite it being a significant difficulty for those that touch type. Their UK customer service manager Oliver Dyson refuses to accept that it is an issue, so be aware before purchasing HP laptops that any of your staff who touch type may have difficulties, and HP will not resolve the situation for you.

  • Solaris on x86 Dell Laptop - keyboard driver!

    Hello,
As some of you may have a Dell Laptop I am asking if anyone has
had any success installing Solaris 8 for Intel. If you have please
    drop me a line.
So far I have worked my way past the hangs during the install's
configuration of /dev. I had to remove all references to cardbus in
the "Edit Device" settings of the device configuration assistant.
But then I hit the second problem where the first keypress at the
language selection window sends repeating characters until the keyboard
buffer is full. In other words it goes nuts because the Solaris driver
does not support the Dell Latitude CPi laptop keyboard. I know it is
not a supported configuration but I have little option since Sun are
no longer interested in supporting laptops in Solaris 8.
I already know there is a USB keyboard workaround but I dont
fancy myself hauling around a seperate keyboard just so I can use
    Solaris 8.
More specificallly I am looking for driver settings to make the
existing keyboard driver work or an alternative keyboard driver to solve the
issue. Sun can you help out here?
Any suggestions appreciated, especially some input from Sun.
    Sincerely

    Hi knightweb,
Did you checked the BigAdmin center to know if your box is compatible / known to work ?
The installation program says your drive is RO ? Are you installing from a CD ? If yes, be sure that the disk choosed to the installation is not the CD drive (I don't know Dell 6350 anyway)
Did you tried to broke the last partition if there's one with fdisk ?

  • Why do certain notes not play using my  laptop keyboard?

In Logic 9, I have notes that have quit working using my Akai LPK 25 laptop keyboard. I think one quit when I was in clicks and ports trying to figure this out. This keyboard is plugged in directly via USB port. I have a Casio keyboard that I use using a Lambda interface that works fine; only in that case I hear them through the interface. The Logic Caps keyboard works fine. From July till now, it all worked great. I think the first note may have quit playing when I was exploring the Logic arpeggiator. I can see that the signal for the note is being received, but the indicator shows the note with a line through it, as it does with other notes after the key is released.

Eriksimon told you a fact that is little known and often causes confusion. Here is a diagram that demonstrates the concept with the MIDI signal flow.
The Controller Assignment ➊ is placed right there at the Physical Input (if you are familiar with the Environment). Any MIDI Event that you assign in the Controller Assignment window will be intercepted and "eliminated" from further traveling to your MIDI devices, objects or the Tracks.
    Hope that helps

  • I updated to Yosemite, now my laptop keyboard does not work in MS Word for Mac. Help!

I updated to Yosemite, now my laptop keyboard does not work in MS Word for Mac. Help! Any suggestions for fixing this?

Did you ever get a solution to your problem? Because I am having the same problem. I was actually in the middle of using Word when the keyboard stopped working. But it works in other apps, including in Excel.
Thing is that my laptop just got back from Apple for repairs and they replaced everything but the display - including the hard drive.
So not only do I have plenty of hard drive space, but it should be virus and error free otherwise.
I have only installed a few programs and redownloaded some of my files from places like Dropbox, but otherwise is essentially a new system.
Oh - and it came with Yosemite, so I did not upgrade to Yosemite and still Word doesn't work.
I've always had trouble getting Word to play nice with my Mac but that was also with the old, full hard drive.
This is a fresh install. And since I lost all my files, I only had like 1 old file I have downloaded from email and accessed and was in the process of
creating a new file when it crashed. I got no error, the keyboard just stopped working (to type). I also cannot even get Word > Preferences to even open,
    so it is completely unresponsive.
I did a Google search and under the Microsoft communities two suggestions to that person were that there may be multiple copies installed -
I have only the one - and that one is in the wrong place - again, I only have the one and it installed to the Hard drive (visible in Launchpad / Apps).
Another suggestion was that there was some problem with the updates. I ran updates and they installed fine. That helper suggested that the user
may have had different updates that worked for the other Office apps (Excel, PPT etc.) but not Word and that was at least part, if not all of his problem,
but all my Office apps show the same update version 12.3.6, so that cannot be the issue with me.
I've not yet tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but as I got no errors on the original install or updates, I'm not sure if that would fix it.
I've found that Mac just doesn't play nice with some programs at all.
And even though I have a factory installed version of Yosemite on a new, fresh hard drive, even when I booted up, my iPhoto app (which is empty) crashed. I am not sure if my iPhone or iPad was charging at the time, but I don't think so. iPhoto that I still have not even used has crashed several more times since, most notably when plugging in my iPhone / iPad to charge, namely when I declined to upload photos (by default) to DropBox. That may not be related at all, but thus far seems the only other problem I have encountered until this Word problem.
I'm on a MacBook Pro, Sept. 2009, running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 factory installed from Apple repairs running Office: 2008 for Mac (Home and Student edition).
Please advise if you found a resolution and what it was.
    Thanks

  • Simulate a numeric keypad right on a mac laptop keyboard?

Is there any software that can simulate a numeric keypad right on a mac laptop keyboard - like hold down a function ket or whatever and some keys become like numeric keypad?

revDAVE, I use [KeyRemap4MacBook|http://pqrs.org/macosx/keyremap4macbook> to emulate a numeric keypad on my keyboard. In KeyRemap4MacBook’s “Change FN Key” category, this is done by selecting the “FN to FN (+ When you type FN only, send FN_Lock)” checkbox. When the fn key is pressed and released by itself, the numeric keypad emulation is toggled; otherwise, the fn key continues to act as usual.

  • How to recognise what type of keys are used in the laptop keyboard reading its bottom description?

Could you please give me the exact model number of your notebook?
You can use the following document if you need assistance in finding it.

  • My laptop keyboard acting really weird

I just bought my computer a few days ago and starting last night, every time I pressed "p", shows "*' and the 0 shows "/", unless I press the fn key and p key at the same time.
Here are some of the other keys that are acting weird:
    ; shows -
    / shows +
    ? shows +
Was there some combination key I pressed to change these? If there was, can you *lease let me know because it's getting very annoying.
    Thank you.

It sounds like you have one of those standard laptop keyboards that numlock
    changes things.
Try pressing numlock again.  You might have to press the Fn key too...
