Pay of Terms + FBL1N

Hi gurus,
I need to limit the use of the changes through the FBL1N TX. How can I do?
For example, depending on the user that is, limit the the possibility to modify the field Terms of Payment Key or Baseline Date for Due Date Calculation
Is there any way?
Tks

Thank you Jan for your answer
So, I can put or driving permits from the field Baseline and payment terms? That is, for example, a user can not modify the field Bline Date or Payt Terms?
Thk again

    I love apex!

If it works on Oracle Express Edition, the license charge from Oracle is $0
If it is something larger than Oracle Express Edition, check out the prices on http://store.oracle.com for the maximum, non-discounted, list price. Remember that very few pay list price.

  • XL Report Requirement - AP Docs incl. Pay. Terms

    Hi all,
i'm about to create a user specific report, using XL reporter. Setting up the report to come up with all open AP Invoices has not been a big deal. Now i want to also show the payment discount, to calculate in the XL report. e.g. AP Doc total is 100u20AC, payment term is 14days 2%, 30days net.  couldn't find a solution calculating the 100u20AC minus 2%. Anyone an idea how to handle that..?
    BR - Dominic

    Hi,
the problem is that normally different payment tearms are used for each AP invoice. It is necessary to get the discount percentace for each invoice, but i cant find it using the XL-Reporter. Any idea?
    Thanks Dominic

  • Fixed Due Date Pay,ment Term

    Hi,
My client needs a payment term with a fixed due date.  For example, all sales orders for a certain sales program is due for payment on  sept 22, 2007. So an order placed in march 2007 is due on sept 22, 2007.  If another order is placed on April 2007, it will still be due on sept 22, 2007.
I've created a payment term with a fixed date of 22 and set the doc date as the basis of the baseline date. During sales order entry, the document date must then be set to sept 1, 2007. Unfortunately, the users can't be relied on to update the document date all the time.  Another alternative is to create a user exit to change the document date based on the payment term.
I think these might work but I'm still trying to find out if there is any simpler way of setting a fixed due date in the sales order.  I'd appreciate any suggestions.
    Thanks.

    Hi ,
I guess while configuring the payment term if for the base line date you select the field No default ,in this case system will prompt you for the baseline date ,here you can set this as 1'st of that month etc.
just check if this helps you ..

  • Pay to term emp

Just wondering what could be the best SAP practise of paying money to an employee after he has been terminated. I.e the company found after 2 months of terminating it's employee that it owes him $1000. Can you please suggest how can we pay him , when the status of employee is '0'-withdrawn. Can payroll be run for this employee? How to pay him $1000.
    Thanks in advance
    W.

    Hello:
You can use the "Run Payroll Up To" field on IT0003, entering the date of the end of the payroll period you want to process them in.  The date must be in a period in which the employee is not active.  This will allow the employee to be picked up on the payroll run even though they are withdrawn.  Hope this helps.

  • Payment Term/BP on the level of Charge type in FWO

According to business process I have 2 variants of payment term  for transportation with payer:
    1)      Prepaid (paid by Agency1(Payer1) in POL port of Loading)
    2)      Collect (paid by Agency2(Payer2) in POD port of discharge)
    3)      Today customer has  a requirement to issue several settlements from one FWO to different business partners on the level of  charge type.
    Example:
    BP Role: Payer
    BP : Payer 1
Payment term: will pay with term prepaid:
Charge type1 - NTFR (Net Ocean Freight)
Charge type2 - BAF (Bunker Adjustment Factor)
    BP Role: Payer
    BP : Payer 2
Payment term: will pay with term collect:
    Charge type3 - DTHC
The problem is how to  combine several terms(prepaid/collect/direct) with several BP Roles(Payer)/BP(Payer1/Payer2)on the level of charge type(service) in FWO.
From the fisrt sight this case could be some way covered by standard on 9.1 functionality of «Charge type activation based on incoterm».
But at the same time we some issues with this standard solution, because we need to split payer and term not only for the whole stage, but also for different charges in one stage. An example of this could be port to port transportation without any pre-carriage or on-carriage, but with OTHC/DTHC that could be paid in any term(P/C) separately by the appropriate agent in POL or POD. At the same time all the transportation costs will be associated only with one stage of transportation.
Do anybody has an idea how to split payment term deeper than level of stage?

    Hi,
You can use the "Flexible Settlement" function in TM9.1.
Assign the charge types to settlement group.
Assign the settlement group to settlement rule.
Assign the settlement rule to settlement profile.
    Best Regards

  • Change of Customer Payment Terms and Its Impact On Invoice

    Hi All,
i would like to know that I have few open customer invoices for a customer. Now I have changed the Credit terms from 30 days to 60 days. Of-course it will not automatically impact on the already created accounting documents. Is there a way that i can update the accounting documents with new credit term days so that the due dates can be recalculated.
    Please advise
    Many Thanks
    SAPXPT

It doesn't work that Way.... need small ABAP changes in the standard program: Just follow as given below but need to be done with ABAPer as it needs access key to change the standard programs:
    Symptom
On the new line item list (transactions FBL1N, FBL3N, FBL5N (FAGLL03 as of ERP2004)), you can carry out a mass change for certain document fields. You want to add fields to the mass change that do not exist in the SAP standard system.
    Other Terms
    FBL1N, FBL3N, FBL5N, RFITEMAP, RFITEMGL, RFITEMAR, FB02, FB03, document change, mass change, FAGLL03, FAGL_ACCOUNT_ITEMS_GL
    Reason and Prerequisites
Fields for the mass change are not contained in the SAP standard system.
    Solution
    Note:
The following solution refers to transactions FBL1N, FBL3N and FBL5N. If you want to create the changes for the line item display of the new general ledger (FAGLL03), do not make the changes in the FI_ITEMS function group (LFI_ITEMSI01). Instead, make the changes in the FAGL_ITEMS_DISPLAY function group (LFAGL_ITEMS_DISPLAYI01).
    Solution:
Carry out the enhancements described below in your system and test them thoroughly.
Note: SAP cannot guarantee that the modified mass change will work correctly even if you carry out all of the steps as described in the manual tasks.
    Preparation:
Go to the line item list, select a document and choose 'Change document' in the menu bar.
In general, all the fields that can be changed in the following screen can be changed in the mass change If you choose 'Additional data', the system displays an additional dialog box. The fields that can be changed in this dialog box can also be included in the mass change. You cannot change the CPD data of a document in a mass change.
Make sure to remember whether the system displays the field that you want to include in the mass change (from now on referred to as 'XYZ') on the main screen or in the additional dialog box. Also note that this can differ for customer accounts, vendor accounts or G/L accounts.
Enhancement of the screen for the mass change:
To manually change the screen for the mass change in the line item display, proceed as follows:
Call transaction SE80 to display the FI_ITEMS function group.
Expand the 'Screens' folder and double-click screen number '0100'.
Choose '-> Layout' (note that you must use the graphic layout editor for the following steps).
The system now displays another dialog box: 'Screen Painter: Change input/output field'. In this dialog box, choose 'Display <-> Change'. You should now be able to modify the screen.
Choose 'F6'. The system generates another dialog box: 'Screen Painter: Dict./Program fields'.
Enter *BSEG-XYZ in the command line as a table/field name and choose Enter.
The system displays a relevant table row in the large white window. Select this line and choose the pushbutton with the green checkmark in the lower left corner.
Place the cursor on a suitable position on the first 'Screen Painter: Change input/output field' and left-click. The system then displays the required selection field including the description. You can now move it to the required position on the screen.
Select the white selection field of the two new selection fields and choose 'F2'.
The system generates the additional dialog box: 'Screen Painter: Attributes'. Select the 'DICT' tab page in the 'Attributes' section and deactivate the 'foreign key check' if it is activated.
Test, save and activate the screen.
    Manual source code changes:
You have to modify the SAP standard source code as follows:
    First change:
Call transaction SE80 to display the FI_ITEMS function group.
Expand the 'Screens' folder and double-click screen number '0100'.
Select the 'Flow logic' tab. Add the row marked with "<-----INSERT LINE to the source code:
field *bseg-bvtyp module req_bvtyp on request.
field *bseg-rstgr module req_rstgr on request.
field *bseg-cession_kz module req_cession_kz on request.
field *bseg-xyz module req_xyz on request.  "<--INSERT LINE
    Second change:
Call transaction SE80 to display the FI_ITEMS function group.
Create the module req_xyz in the LFI_ITEMSI01 include:
    module req_xyz.
    fldtab-fname = 'XYZ'.
    fldtab-aenkz = 'M'.
    collect fldtab.
    endmodule.
    Third change:
Call transaction SE80 to display the FI_ITEMS function group.
In the 'SCREEN_DETAIL' subroutine, add the rows marked with " <-----INSERT LINE  if XYZ is displayed on the main screen of the document change (see above):
    when 'HBKID'.
    zusatzbild = 'X'.
    continue.
    when 'XYZ'.                        "<-----INSERT LINE
    bdcdata-fnam = 'BSEG-XYZ'.        "<-----INSERT LINE
    bdcdata-fval = s_bseg-xyz.        "<-----INSERT LINE (*)
If the XYZ field is displayed in the additional dialog box, add the following rows marked with "<-----INSERT LINE instead:
    when 'HBKID'.
    zusatzbild = 'X'.
    continue.
    when 'XYZ'.                        "<-----INSERT LINE
    zusatzbild = 'X'.                 "<-----INSERT LINE
    continue.                        "<-----INSERT LINE
    when 'HBKID'.
    bdcdata-fnam = 'BSEG-HBKID'.
    bdcdata-fval = s_bseg-hbkid.
    append bdcdata.
    when 'XYZ'.                        "<-----INSERT LINE
    bdcdata-fnam = 'BSEG-XYZ'.        "<-----INSERT LINE
    bdcdata-fval = s_bseg-xyz.        "<-----INSERT LINE (*)
    append bdcdata.                  "<-----INSERT LINE
Note: If conversions of data formats are involved, you may have to insert the following row instead of the row marked with (*):
    write s_bseg-xyz to bdcdata-fval.    "<-----INSERT LINE
For an example, see Note 573954 about the mass change of the baseline date for payment ZFBDT.
Save and activate the source code changes.
    Notes on error handling:
If the mass change does not occur as required even though you changed and activated all program parts, note that the error log for the mass change (Environment -> Mass change -> Error log of line item list) may contain useful information for error handling.
In addition, see Notes 573954, 577792 or 322163 for more information.

  • Do you have to pay early termination fees up front

Do you have to pay early term fees up front on your next bill? or can they be broken down monthly?

We don't want to see you leaving us, smokey18. What's going on? To answer your question, the Early Temination Fee is applied in full to the final bill, which usually is created about a week after the line is cancelled and due just like a monthly statement about 25 days later.

  • Custom Payment Screen

    Hi Experts,
I'm working in the ERPCRM B2B web shop.
At the moment I'm trying to create an in-between page where the user is able to select their payment option.
The Page is a custom JSP wich allows the user to:
    1) Create either a new Credit card.
    2) Select a Stored Credit Card.
    3) Pay by Terms (invoice is sent).
The screen is able to render without any problem , the issue now is how to assign the selection to the order before submitting it to the backed.
I have checked the standard and found a class called PaymentActions which has a method called setPaymentAttributes, but I'm not sure if this is the correct object that i need to change to store the credit card information/invoice.
Does anyone know how to do this? how can i set this information to the Basket/Order so that it can afterward be saved in the Backed.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Sheldon.

If it just an additional information which you need to send alongwith order/basket, then you can try the extension mechanism of BO. Here you can add the additional extension data to business object which you need to send to backend.
Please pardon me if this is not what you intend to do, or if this is not the correct direction.
    Thanks

  • Logon trigger - restrict acces using Toad, SQLPLUS...

    Oracle 10.2.0.4
I have users who use oracle form - ifweb90.exe.
I want to restrict them to access database using SQL Developer, TOAD or any other tools. I create logon trigger:
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER block_users
    AFTER LOGON ON DATABASE
    begin
    FOR REC IN (SELECT USERNAME,PROGRAM
    FROM V$SESSION
    WHERE AUDSID = USERENV('SESSIONID'))
    LOOP
    if rec.username like ('X%')
    and
    rec.program not like ('ifweb90.exe')
    then
    RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR(-20001,'ERROR MESSAGE');
    end if;
    end loop;
    END;
This solution don’t work if the program executable is renamed (this can’t be done with SQL Developer).
    1. Is there any way to solve this?
    2. Whether this trigger will use resources, whether this trigger will check all connection? What is the cost to pay in terms of performance?
    Thanks in advance!

This solution don’t work if the program executable is renamed (this can’t be done with SQL Developer).
    1. Is there any way to solve this?Better alternative would be to change your own program, set the client_application_info and check for that using logon trigger. Anything else, can then be thrown off.
    2. Whether this trigger will use resources, whether this trigger will check all connection? What is the cost to pay in terms of performance? There would be negligible usage of resources.
But this trigger won't stop any connections from any tool which come in as SYSDBA.

  • DataModel, SelectItem(s) Reading data twice - selection consistency

    Hello,
I have some concerns regarding the way how selected item in selectone_menu or command_link/command_button inside of data_table get resolved on submit.
I am very new to JSF so I might misunderstood how it works and will be grateful for your comments
Here are two samples which assume Request scope for their backing beans.
Lets say we have a typical form with Products drop down list
When we render the form Products gets populated from List of SelectItem which is built in backing bean from database
When we submit the form the view is recreated, product list is repopulated from backing bean again and user selection is resolved
Very similar case with data_table - in fact even more confusing because it seems use row numbers. When we render it its underlying Data Model gets populated from database and each row of the table outputs lets say a "delete" button. One of "Delete" buttons is clicked - form gets submitted. View is reconstituted by repopulating DataModel and resolving row which was clicked (using button ID and Row Number if I understand it right)
Now in both cases to successfully resolve user selection JSF needs to get exactly the same data in the list or DataModel which can't not guaranteed by application. If DataModel retrieves different set of data I am afraid user click might get resolved to a wrong row
Another issue is performance. I am not totally happy with the fact that everything gets fetched twice - first time on render (expected) and second time on submit
    Thank you
    Alex

    Adam,
I think it makes use of DataModel difficult and uncertain. And it is one of the most widely used scenarious - select something from a dynamically produced list.
As it stands now data_table can
    1. Cause event propagation to wrong row in case of dynamic data
    2. Performs very expensive data retrieval twice just so click can be resolved to row object
Storing data model in session for the time of render/submit cycle is possible but
    1. Not an optioin in many cases because the model references "live" data (like JDO which holds reference to PersistenceManager) and is not serializable it is meant to be used in request and released.
    2. But even if it was not an issue it is a very high price to pay in terms of transparency ease of development etc. I am not even talking about technical chalenges of purging snapshots of various data models from session
I wonder if there are any other approaches to DataModel. For example require a RowID for each row.
In most cases it is there anyway in form of primary keys or object IDs of underlying data. And in many cases it is all developers would want to get on row event - RowID. If DataModel had getSelectedRowID() method it would be all we need to go on. If people need to get an actual instance to fire event on DataModel could optionally implement resolveRow(rowId) method which will resolve selected ID to row data instance. It will also take care of double retrieve issue because you will not need to retrieve the same data second time - just selected row data.
Somehow I think in 80% cases people won't even need to get row instance in their event - just row id

<b>Dov Isaacs on Screen Captures</b><br /><br />Dov Isaacs had this to write about screen captures:<br /><br />***************<br /><br />Date: Wed, 23 May 2001 10:23:22 -0700<br />From: "Dov Isaacs" <[email protected]><br />Subject: Imported / Placed Images - MORE (You Asked for It!)<br /><br />All:<br /><br />Some additional issues were raised yesterday both on-list and in some private emails to me about me postings with regards to screen capture images specifically and images in general.<br /><br />Issue #1 - UNIX<br />===============<br /><br />UNIX is not my specialty and Adobe no longer provides a version of Photoshop for any flavour of UNIX. Thus, my advice for UNIX users of FrameMaker are effectively to capture the raw image as TIFF, process the image on Windows or Macintosh to obtain the EPS file with the image interpolation option, and then move the resultant EPS file back to your UNIX-based system for use with FrameMaker.<br /><br />Issue #2 - File Size - Screen Captures<br />======================================<br /><br />There is no question that the binary EPS files that result from the procedures I outlined yesterday are somewhat bloated compared to other files holding the same content. The resultant PDF files at the end of the process, though, are exceptionally compact.<br /><br />To show what is going on, I captured an image showing one of the PSCRIPT driver dialog windows. I saved the resultant RGB image in a number of different formats. The following are the files, sizes, and explanations:<br /><br />Printer Properties.bmp - 899 KBytes<br /><br />        RGB and K only, no CMYK option, no compression option,<br />        no display/print-time interpolation,<br />        limited cross-platform interoperability,<br />        application/driver resampling problems<br /><br />Printer Properties.gif - 20 KBytes<br /><br />        RGB only, no CMYK option, 24 bit color reduced to 8 bit color,<br />        no display/print-time interpolation,<br />        application/driver resampling problems<br /><br />Printer Properties.tif - 61 KBytes<br /><br />        no display/print-time interpolation,<br />        application/driver resampling problems<br /><br />Printer Properties Direct ASCII.eps - 2735 KBytes<br /><br />        no compression, enormous size (includes TIFF preview)<br /><br />Printer Properties Direct Binary.eps - 1462 KBytes<br /><br />        no compression, large size (includes TIFF preview)<br />        care must be taken in setting Windows PostScript printer driver<br />        to correct binary option (most often TBCP if not AppleTalk printer)<br /><br />Clearly, you are indeed paying an on-host penalty in file size by using<br />the EPS approach that I outlined. The resultant PDF generated from this<br />content most often is SMALLER than the PDF generated from TIFF equivalents<br />and has higher quality, but you will pay in terms file size of the on-host<br />"content" files with the images.<br /><br />(You may ask "why are the EPS files from Photoshop so bloated?" The answer<br />is two-fold. Part of the problem comes from the fact that Photoshop does<br />not have a compression option for non-JPEG EPS export, although it has a<br />ZIP compression option for non-JPEG PDF export. The other part of the problem is the TIFF preview header, which surprising enough, takes at least as much space as the "base" uncompressed image in PostScript. Yucck!)<br /><br />But alas, I did find a way of fixing this problem enough to be quite a<br />bit more tolerable. (If local disk space is not a problem, then you need<br />not worry about trying this stuff out!)<br /><br />Instead of saving the image as EPS with the interpolation option in either<br />Photoshop 6 or Photoshop Elements 1, save the image as Photoshop PDF with<br />the interpolation option and ZIP compression (not JPEG!!) using either<br />one of those programs. THEN, in Acrobat 5, save the PDF file as binary EPS, <br />TIFF header, language level 3. (In Acrobat 4.05a, export the PDF file <br />similarly!)<br /><br />Resultant files (both ASCII and binary flavours):<br /><br />Printer Properties.pdf - 23 KBytes<br /><br />        Most compact format for this image type<br />        Not appropriate for FrameMaker import/placement.<br /><br />Printer Properties from Acro5 ASCII.eps - 400 KBytes<br /><br />        Slightly larger than binary equivalent,<br />                much larger in the general case, though<br />        (includes TIFF preview)<br /><br />Printer Properties from Acro5 Binary.eps - 396 KBytes<br /><br />        Slightly smaller than ASCII equivalent,<br />                much smaller in the general case, though<br />        (includes TIFF preview)<br />        care must be taken in setting Windows PostScript printer driver<br />        to correct binary option (most often TBCP if not AppleTalk printer)<br /><br />With the replacement step of generating PDF instead of EPS and then the extra steps of running Acrobat and saving/exporting PDF, you save over two thirds of the disk space for the EPS files.<br /><br />There is no quality loss in this process. The savings in disk space is<br />due to the fact that unlike non-JPEG EPS export from Photoshop/Photoshop<br />Elements, PDF export from the same program can ZIP compress images as<br />well. Screen captures do exceptionally well with non-lossy ZIP compression.<br />The EPS save/export from Acrobat maintains the images' ZIP<br />compression. The remaining "bloat" in these Acrobat-generated EPS files is the<br />result of Acrobat's PostScript procedures in the EPS file as well as the TIFF header.<br /><br />Bottom line is that I think the extra steps are worth it if you want to<br />conserve disk space. If you want to re-edit THESE EPS files in Photoshop,<br />unlike the EPS files directly saved from Photoshop, extreme care must<br />be taken in opening them to avoid weird resampling.<br /><br />Issue #3 - Non-Screen Capture Images<br />====================================<br /><br />I would still recommend EPS as a better means of importing/placing images<br />into FrameMaker such that resampling does not occur in the application or driver.<br /><br />Likewise, I would not recommend ever resampling any such images to a higher resolution. Turn on the image interpolation option and let either<br />Acrobat or the ultimate PostScript printing device do the hard lifting<br />for you. You gain nothing by carrying around the extra data which really<br />contains no real new data.<br /><br />This is most likely contrary to what your service bureaus and printers<br />will tell you as gospel and what their pre-flight software will advise you to "correct," but resampling here buys nothing at all. (If they still don't believe you, have them contact me!)<br /><br />I have revised the recommendations from yesterday based on the above ...<br /><br />        - Dov<br /><br />========================================================================<br /><br />Based on our experience at Adobe, there is one way that easily yields the highest quality computer screen shots for both display and printing.<br /><br />(1) Grab the image with whatever your favorite tool is. Under Windows, the easiest thing to do is Alt-PrintScrn which puts the RGB bits onto the pasteboard. On the Mac, Shift-Command-4 followed by CapsLock yields an image file.<br /><br />(2a) Under Windows with Photoshop 6, create a new document. It will automatically be the size of the image on the pasteboard. CTRL-V will then paste the screen capture into that new image. Then, flatten that image.<br /><br />(2b) Under MacOS with Photoshop 6, open the generated image file (a PICT <br />file with a name of the form "Picture x" where "x" is an integer).<br /><br />(3) Convert the screen shot image to CMYK or grayscale to suit your needs.<br />Not all service bureaus require CMYK! If you are displaying the PDF file<br />and printing to laser printers, CMYK buys you nothing other than potentially<br />a larger file.<br /><br />(4) Flatten the image. Layers buy you nothing here and may cause problems<br />later in saving the file.<br /><br />(5) Do not resize or change resolution of the image!!!!!!<br />(Why? Because you generally don't know at this time exactly what the magnifications and resolutions are that you will be viewing and printing<br />with! In fact, zooming in and out with Acrobat or Acrobat Reader changes<br />those requirements on the fly. Better to simply just have the captured<br />data. Upsampling or downsampling at time of need to exact specifications<br />yields much better results than multiple such transformations!)<br /><br />(6a) Re-editable by Photoshop, but "bloated" EPS file size option!<br />Save the image using File=>Save As using the "Photoshop EPS" option. In the "EPS options" screen, you should use the TIFF (8bits/pixel) preview option (yields an EPS file that can be used both on Mac and Windows), <br />Encoding "binary" (ASCII can be twice the size and JPEG is totally inappropriate for screen shots). Check "PostScript color management" if you are using color management in your workflow. The key though is that you MUST check "Image Interpolation". This sets a image dictionary key that Adobe<br />PostScript Level 2, Adobe PostScript 3, Acrobat, and Acrobat Reader use to do<br />very high quality image interpolation and/or downsampling appropriate to the<br />device's actual resolution and technology at the time the image is viewed or printed. (Distiller passes this key along from PostScript or EPS in a PostScript stream into the equivalent PDF image key!) Close Photoshop 6.<br /><br />                        OR<br /><br />(6b) Compact EPS file size option!<br /><br />        (i) Save the image using File=>Save As using the "Photoshop PDF" <br />option.<br />        In the "PDF options" screen, you should use the ZIP encoding<br />(lossless<br />        compression) option. The key though is that you MUST check <br />        "Image Interpolation". This sets a image dictionary key that Adobe <br />        PostScript Level 2, Adobe PostScript 3, Acrobat, and Acrobat<br />Reader use<br />        to do very high quality image interpolation and/or downsampling <br />        appropriate to the device's actual resolution and technology<br />at the time<br />        the image is viewed or printed. (Distiller passes this key along from <br />        PostScript or EPS in a PostScript stream into the equivalent<br />PDF image <br />        key!)<br /><br />        (ii) Close Photoshop 6.<br /><br />        (iii) Open the resultant PDF file in Acrobat 5 or 4.05a. Save the PDF<br />        file as an EPS file using the export function in Acrobat 4.05a or<br />        the Save As function in Acrobat 5. Set the options for binary EPS, <br />        TIFF header, and language level 3.<br /><br />        (iv) Close Acrobat.<br /><br />(7) Import the resultant EPS file into whatever application you have in which you wish to include the screen print. Obviously you will only see the EPS preview in those applications (except for InDesign), but your resultant printed output (via PostScript or PostScript=>PDF) or display via Acrobat / Acrobat Reader will be of exceptionally high quality. During distillation, do not downsample any of these images. Downsampling of the screen shots can be avoided by having a high enough threshold for downsampling; 300dpi or higher will do!<br /><br />Working on a budget? It turns out that you can replace Adobe Photoshop 6<br />with Adobe Photoshop Elements 1.0 if you do not need to convert to CMYK<br />and don't need any other advanced image handling. This could save you $500 a copy if your image handling needs are more limited.<br /><br />NO, as far as I know, neither JASC nor Corel PhotoPaint nor any of the other budget image edit programs offer the EPS export image interpolation<br />option, assuming they even offer the EPS format. Furthermore, none of the nifty screen capture utilities that we know of offer either EPS or EPS with the image interpolation option.<br /><br />We know of NO better means of producing high quality printed or displayed<br />screen shots in an output device independent manner. Forget GIF, TIFF,<br />BMP, and especially JPEG. Forgetting the issue of the image interpolation<br />feature for the time being, use of any of these formats results in the "host"<br />program (such as FrameMaker or Microsoft Word, etc.) doing their own <br />resizing of the image in conjunction with the PostScript drivers based<br />on the device resolution selected. The bottom line is that by the time Acrobat gets to display the image or the PostScript RIP gets the image data,<br />the image data will have been upsampled, downsampled, resampled, i.e.<br />overmangled!<br /><br />Also, note that for purposes of placing other images in FrameMaker or similar applications, EPS with the image interpolation also is the preferred<br />means of image placement for exactly the same reasons. In terms of image<br />resolution, you may choose to leave as-is and let the Distiller do the heavy lifting, if necessary or downsample in Photoshop if the original image is grossly over-endowed, so to speak. Remember, you cannot later reconstruct what you downsample now.<br /><br />With regards to the "resolution" that you set the Acrobat Distiller printer to, that resolution primarily affects non-EPS image handling. As long as you set the resolution to 600 dpi or greater, character and vector artwork placement will be fine and not affected. You don't need to use the resolution of the final device (in fact, don't go over 1200 dpi under Windows or you might hit a nasty bug in FrameMaker's interface with the driver).<br /><br />For distillation job options, always use "compress text and line art". This is non-lossy compression and you gain nothing by not using it other than a larger PDF file size.<br /><br />I know that this information is very much at odds with what your service<br />bureaus, printers, or Kinkos will tell you, but it is authoritative and<br />Adobe Systems Incorporated stands behind it completely when used in<br />conjunction with Adobe Acrobat and RIPs with Adobe PostScript Level 2 or Adobe PostScript 3.

  • Oracle Database : "Developer" or "DBA"..??

    Hi..
I'm from India & new to the Oracle Databases (currently a final year student, engineering).
I want to know from the "Gurus" (Just a noble gesture, not the terminology thats used here) here, which stream/track should I opt for in terms of getting "Oracle certified" in Databases with a motive of increasing my credentials as a Fresher, i.e., getting better job roles & pay (short term as well a long term perspectives in mind). (Developer or DBA side)
The reason I'm asking this (a probably stupid question, for some) is because someone in my college (whom I presume to be knowing at least more than me about this) told me that as a Fresher, Developer track is better as a DBA's role can't be granted to someone who's new (whether certified or not). But my interest is more towards being a DBA*.
So, please guide me which track to go for --> Forms/(PL/SQL) Developer, 10g/11g DBA, or Both (in sequence please..)_
(I may sound stupid to some, but please try and keep up with me; I'm just a noob & this is my 1st post here.)
    Thanks (*In Advance)..

Srini is right for the long term, your acquaintance is right for the short term. In general, there are way more developer jobs, and the experience will help you if you see that dba is what you think it is in the real world. Since there is usually 10x more development than dba work needed, pure dba work tends to be limited to larger shops. Smaller shops don't appreciate dba at all, but having the skill in addition to being a developer makes you valuable.
But always keep your eyes open for special situations.

  • Where to create new datafile

    Hi all,
Oracle 10g EE, Server 2003 EE
I use SAN storage for oracle_home directory, datafiles, RMAN backup files and Data Pump export .
I have different disks for Oracle_home directory, for my tablespace datafiles, RMAN files and for Data Pump export.
Disk that I use for datafiles is full and I don’t have free space for new datafile.
Is it good to put new datafile on my RMAN backup disks or on Oracle_home disk?
What is the cost to pay in terms of performance and security?
    Thanks in advance!

In general it is a bad idea to mix your primary and backup data -- what happens if the backup disk goes bad? How can you recover the primary data that was on there?
Why can't you provision more space from your SAN for the additional data files? If you put the new datafiles anywhere you are going to be doing heavy read/write activity (eg. backups, exports) then you might see IO contention, but that is completely dependent on your infrastructure and DB load. I would say the best bet is to TEMPORARILY put the datafiles in the oracle home, with the near-term intention of moving them back into the disk with the rest of the datafiles, or perhaps onto a new disk for new datafiles.
