PB cannot recognize airport express

I am traveling (in Amsterdam) from US. I can use the airport express in my daughter's home without trouble. However, where I am staying there is also an express that does not show up on my wireless list. My daughter's pb recognizes it just fine. There is actually a list of 4 networks that show up in this area (password protected) just not the one I am currently sitting right next to.
12 PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

If the AE was set-up as a "Closed Network" it will not be broadcastng the SSID, it would require you to manually enter the SSID and password.
If you daughters PB was set-up this way, it would recognize the network.
Just a thought...

cannot connect airport express to ipad
I keep receiving the message: "an unexpected error occurred" when I try to connect my Ipad to my airport express.  Does anyone have a solution?

I could not "see" my Express via my wireless router or via the Airport Utility until I reset it to Factory Settings by unplugging it then holding in the tiny reset button while plugging it back in, waiting for the flashing yellow LED signal before letting go.
Then I set it up to DHCP - "connect to wireless network" and DOWNGRADED the firmware to 7.3.x
I would tell you the exact Firmware but I can no longer "see" the Airport express............ AGAIN or still.....
BUT at least I am listening to music streaming from my MacBook Pro... Hmmm.
I log back into the router (Linksys WRT110) and it no longer shows the Airport Express as a DHCP client AND the Airport utility can no longer "find" any Airport Devices..
So if I don't move, or there are no cosmic events, or maybe my KARMA is effecting the device or my "VIBES" are good, but I'm not sure if will continue to work.. Sure would like to use this little device from hel*.
Since I have had this Airport Express I have spent many hours trying to get it to work.
It works just long enough to fool me and then takes a dump...
    Maybe this time?
    5 Minute later...
Music was playing. I went into iTunes and switched from Airtunes to Computer speakers. When I tried to switch it back GUESS WHAT?
[An unknown error (-15006) occurred while trying to connect to remote speaker "Airtunes"]
Wonderful Green LED though. Totally useless piece of equipment AFAIK.

  • Cannot connect Airport express wireless

Hello, cannot connect airport express wireless to linksys router.  Connected now with ethernet  cable but cannot figure wireless connection. My laptop cannot find the express while preforming setup scan, yet I'm connected to it.  I can connect with my iphone but not wirelessly. Any suggestions?

....I was then told over the phone that airport express will not connect to third party routers.
    This is NOT correct.
The AirPort Express will connect to a wireless network if you know the following:
    1) The name of the wireless network
    2) The exact setting for wireless security that the network is using
    3) The wireless network password
Most users know 1) and 3), but very few know the exact type of wireless security settings that their wireless router is using. The Express will not connect to the wireless network unless it receives all of the information listed above.
So...we will assume that you know the name of the wireless network and the password for the network.
Do you know the exact type of wireless security setting that your wireless router is using?  If not, the Express will not connect.
You may need to check the setup of your wireless router....or if the router was supplied to you by an Internet Service Provider, they may be able to tell you what type of wireless security setting is being used.
Post back when you have this info and we will proceed. There are still no guarantees that the Express will connect....but at least there may be a chance.

  • Airport extreme doesn't recognize airport express remotes

Airport utility doesn't recognize airport express remotes in my network even though they appear to be working. Any ideas how to fix this?

You don't need to download drivers to the Airport Extreme Base Station.
However, you may have to download and install a printer driver on your Mac - if Epson's web site has a newer version than the one built into OS X (which is version 3.09).
You could also try using the alternate "Stylus Photo R340 - Gutenprint" driver built into MacOS 10.5.

  • Cannot get Airport express to recognize on Vista PC

    Hi,
I purchased the AirPort Express to play music off my Sounddock Portable in my Kitchen from a wireless signal off my router thats connected to a modem connected to my PC. I have a Linksys WRT150N Wireless Router that everyone in my house uses to access the internet. The modem is hooked up to the router in the computer room thats hooked directly to the Windows Vista PC. I am downstairs with an iMac, and also have a Macbook in the livingroom that transmits wireless internet just fine off this router.
I first setup the Airport utility on the PC that the modem is connected to. Then I plugged in the Airport express and it turned green first, then flashed the blinking amber from then on. I opened up Airport Utility and it didn't read anything but prompted "A newer version (5.2.1) is available" so I click "Update" and it just disappears the prompt, and nothing downloads?
I do a google search, find the 6.3 i believe it was, firmware update for windows.. try downloading that and I get an error when trying to set it up.. so apparently, I can't update this Airport Utility, and can't read the Airport Express.
Just for curiousity, I brought the Airport Express downstairs, and plugged it into the wall and get the blinking amber. I installed the Airport Utility software to the iMac. It didn't pick it up on that, but also prompted an update needed. So my faithful Mac is able to update the software and then boom, it can recognize it. I didn't go into any setup with it due to the fact that I just had the airport express hooked up to the wall with no ethernet cable (as I want to use the airport express wirelessly). I don't understand how it was blinking amber but my iMac could still at least go into the next screen.
I did try opening up my routers settings to see if anything was blocked. I saw in the security that MAC address filtering was disabled, so i enabled it and added the "Airport ID" MAC Address on the Airport Express in the list to allow to connect to, just to see if that would help, but it didnt.
What I need is to get this to work as I spent $100 assuming it would pick up my wireless signal as do my other apple products, and so my family could enjoy music from the iTunes on my PC to the Sounddock in the kitchen. I was hoping it would be plug and play like my iMac and Macbook were. Please help as I would prefer to not return this item and just get it working =P

Make sure you have the "latest" Airport Admin version of the SW for your PC.
Secondly, just plug the PC directly into the Ethernet port on the Airport. (You probably need a Xover cable). It's been awhile since I've had to do this. So, double check the manual. Worst case, you can "reset" the Airport back to its defaults... Then update it from there.

  • Cannot configure Airport Express

I've set up my Airport Express as a wireless client, the computer recognizes it (it shows up on Airport Utility), but I cannot configure it...everytime I try it says an error occured when trying to communicate, and that's it. All I want to do is play music wirelessly, but I can't select wireless speakers from iTunes...I've already tried a hard and factory reset, no dice...any idea out there?

Solved my own problem, I guess. Updating the Airport Express Firmware to version 6.3 solved the problem: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airportexpressfirmwareupdate63formacosx.h tml
The unfortunate thing is that there was nothing via Airport Utility or Apple Software Update that told me it was necessary to do so. The only reason I discovered this as the problem was trying to connect to the Airport Express using Rogue Amoeba's Airfoil. It diagnosed the problem immediately and sent me to the proper URL to download the firmware update...

  • PowerMac doesn't recognize AirPort Express

My PowerMac has recently stopped recognizing my AirPort Express. I have a PC/Mac network in my apartment with a WDS wireless bridge consisting of two AirPort Expresses. One is connected to the cable modem, the other to a hub in another room. The computer in question connects to the hub via ethernet. It does not have an AirPort card.
I've used this setup successfully for almost a year, with no problems until now. I have several other computers on this network (a PC connected via ethernet and a Mac laptop with wireless). They don't have any problems seeing the AirPort or using AirTunes.
While I still have internet access on the PowerMac through the AirPort Express wireless bridge, my Mac has quit recognizing it in the AirPort Admin Utility. iTunes also no longer shows my AirTunes speakers and iTunes sharing isn't working on this computer. iTunes sharing quit working first, then AirTunes a couple of days later.
I can access both AirPorts if I enter the IP address in the "Other" window in the AirPort Admin Utility. Using this I can change firmware settings and reset the AirPorts, but they still don't show up in the Admin Utility or in iTunes. Also, I can mount network drives from my other two computers (both wireless and ethernet), so basic network functionality seems OK.
I've installed all the most recent updates and I've played around with the IPv6 settings and UDP block option in the firewall. Nothing seems to make any difference. Any thoughts?

I believe I had a similar problem and found your instructions helpful without too much effort.
I've been in the 10.8.2 environment with no disruption to my wireless network until I choose to reconfigure it.
I'm using a Time Capsule as my primary wireless base station with a DSL modem directed into it. I then use an older Airport Express Base Station to extend the wireless network.
Upon reconfiguring the Time Capsule, Airport Utility 6.1 recognized it but not the Airport Express Base Station and the extended network was lost.
Using the workaround you described, I was able to obtain, unpackage and install airport utility 5.6 and then subsequently airport utility 5.6.1. Both recognized and maintained the configuration of my time capsule but neither version recognizes my older airport express base station. I did a factory default reset of the airport express base station a couple of times and rescanned using the airport utility 5.6.1 and it still does not recognize it.
My question is whether there is something beyond which version of airport utility and the airport express base station that might need adjusting. For example, anything to do with my time capsule configuration or other network settings?
    Thanks.

  • Cannot see Airport Express as an Audio Output option!

    Hello All,
    Very frustruating.
I bought an AirPort Express hoping to use it as a Audio output device for movies/spotify etc.
Plugged it all in to my reciever (using optical cable) configured it to my TC network.
Opened itunes and the Airplay function is working perfectly. Music is streaming as expected.
However i cannot see the AE in the audio output options (when i "option+click" the speaker icon).
Tearing my hair out as this was the primary reason for purchasing the AE!
any help would be greatly apprecaited.
    Tim

Trying to play movies through VLC and stream the Audio component to my AirPort express. Similary use Spotify on my computer and stream the audio component.
I thought i would be able to enable my laptop (Macbook Air) to use the Airport Express as its 'speakers' through selecting it as the output source in System preferences.
However it does not show up in the system preferences at all, what has me stumped is the Airport Express is 100% functional through itunes as well as some third party applications (Airfoil).
Im very confused as other users (from extensive google searching) appear to be able to atleast see the AirPort Express as an output device.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

  • How do i get airport utility to recognize airport express?

Airport express does not show up on my list of devices when I start up Airport Utility.  I'd love to use express with my stereo, but I cannot.

If that AirPort Express hasn't been configured, there are two ways to get AirPort Utility to "see" it:  (1) Connect an Ethernet cable between the Express and your Mac.  This works best if you don't need the Ethernet of the Express to connect to another router.  (2) Use the AirPort/WiFi menu bar item to look for a network named in the form "Apple Network xxxxxx".  That's the temporary network that the Express is creating.  If you select that network, AirPort Utility should list the Express.  Once you've configured the Express and restarted it, you'll have to reselect the appropriate wireless network.

  • Laptop cannot see airport express

I have three laptops on my home network.  Two can see my airport express, one cannot.  I have the airport express set to join my home network automatically.  I am only using airport express to be able to listen to my itunes music through my home stereo.  Two laptops, my iphone, all of the ipods in my home work just fine.  The laptop that does not work is a Dell Latitude E4310 (my work laptop).
Any ideas why I cannot see my airport express?

When you use the Airport Utility, does the 'printers' window show your Epson being connected via USB to the Airport Express?

  • ITunes cannot see Airport Express / Windows XP

I have an interesting problem that I cannot figure out.
I am only using the Airport Express to stream music to my stereo. Therefore the Airport Express is in client mode, connected to my home network over a wireless connection (predominantly D-link hardware), WEP is enabled and working fine, and all hardware has the latest firmware. Finally, all hardware has functioning internet connections.
My Apple Powerbook with its Airport card can connect to my Airport Express (in client mode) without difficulty. The Aiport configuration programs can "see" the Airport Express and iTunes finds the device fine. The Powerbook works the way it should, and I can stream music the way I want.
However, the problem is that my IBM notebook cannot see the Airport Express through any of the configuration utilities, and iTunes on the notebook cannot find the Airport Express. I have tried disabling all firewall and antivirus software. iTunes is configured to look for remote speakers with Airtunes. No dice on streaming music from the IBM Notebook to the Airport express.
What is strange is that on the IBM notebook, I can open the Airport Admin Utility and choose "other." Then I put in the IP address for my Aiport Express 192.168.0.103, and I can communicate and configure the Aiport Express.
So the problem is iTunes cannot find the Airport Express on my IBM laptop. I have tried everything that I know of to solve the problem. I can communicate with the Airport Express on the IBM by using the "other" command in the Admin Utility. Somehow there is a flag or something that is not coming up automatically to let the notebook know that an Airport Express is in the network.
    Suggestions?

Have you tried re-installing iTunes as the problem may lie with that and not the network setup itself.

  • Utility does not recognize airport express

my wifi works normally but the utility is unable to recognize the airport express

I do not see a menu in the airport utility, but there is a tool bar.
The menus.....like File, Window, Edit, Help, etc are all located where menus are normally located.....at the very top of the computer screen. It sounds like you are looking at the AirPort Utility window in the middle of the screen.
Did you power off the restart both the PC and the AirPort Express? If you have done this, and the AirPort Express does not appear when you open AirPort Utility, then more troubleshooting will be required.
If AirPort Utility on your PC is communicating with the AirPort Express, the window in the center of the screen will look similar to  this when AirPort Utility is first opened, except that you will see a listing for the AirPort Express:

  • Cannot access airport express with airport utility...

I've been using my old Airport Express, since it has a modem, to access my dialup service , I need to change the access number but Airport Utility reports that it can't access the AE with this version...(It sees it fine)...what do I need to do to change the number?  I've tried several different older versions of AU and get the same result....

    Try the direct link.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/DL1482/en_US/AirPortUtility56.dmg
I have been having some issues with the apple support and discussions area with my ISP.. something seems to be not compatible.
There is a free method .. since you need to pay for Pacifist.. there is a simpler free utility but it does the job .. unpkg
This is my version of Tesserax's which is of course just fine as well.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
Leave the package open on the desktop so you can see the file. AirportUtility56.pkg
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. If your Mac refuses to run the software, because it wasn’t downloaded from the Apple store, go to security in preferences and allow other software to work.. this is limitation of trade methinks. You can set back later if you like.
Now drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. in finder, open the new directory, drill down.. applications, utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall version 6 (now 6.3 if you updated) so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. although I have had no problems when doing so.

  • Macbook can't recognize Airport Express!

    Hi guys,
I have a Macbook Pro Retina 15" Early 2013 running Mavericks 10.9.1. My router is the Apple Airport Express A1088 and what is happening is: I did the setup of the Airport Express last year and everything was working fine. I had to download the Airport Utility 5.6 and then I configured the Airport Express. Alright. But today, my wifi connection was not showing in my Macbook Pro, but it was working fine in my iPhone 5. I tried to turn the Airport Express off, and the same for my Macbook Airport, but it doesn't work. So I decided to do a hard reset and also a reset to factory settings. What is happening is my Macbook Pro showed only one time after doing the reset and I did all the steps of the setup using the Airport Utility 5.6. But when the airport express restarted, it was working only with my iPhone 5, not with my Macbook. So I tried to reset again to factory settings and now I can't do the setup because the Airport Express doesn't show up in my Macbook as a new base station or anything else. With my iPhone 5 I can see the Airport Express as a new base station, however I am not able to setup it because it is a old version (A1088).
I don't know why my Macbook Pro is not showing up the Airport Express. I have already tried to make it work with Windows (via virtual machine) and using Airport Utility 5.6. I also know that THIS IS NOT A HARDWARE PROBLEM! Any other network I am able to join with my Macbook.
I also looked in this forum about other users that had the same problem, but almost all of them started working after a hard reset or reset to factory settings, which is not working for me.
I just wish my Macbook to recognize the Airport Express, until yesterday everything was working fine. And today it is only working with my iPhone, but I am not able to set up it with the iPhone.
    Help!
    Thanks!

    Hey Luis!
I am sorry - i only searched for Apple Airportutility and Mavericks to post the Link :-)
    Did you already tried
    - to delete your Wifi from the list of known Wifi's from your MacBook/System Prefs/Network/AirPort/Option/
    - or maybe delete and reinstall the AirPort Service from your MacBook/System Prefs/Network
    Cheers

  • Airport Utility for Windows 5.3.1 cannot access Airport Express

I am trying to configure an AX newer model and continually get an error. The AX has a flashing amber light, due to the fact that I have reset it to factory defaults. I am able to connect to the internet, even though my connection icon in XP says I'm disconnected. I open the Airport Utility and it detects the AX, when I go to configure manually it runs through some progress bars and the gives me the following error:
"An error occured while trying to access the Apple wireless device. Make sure your network connection is valid and try again"
    "error: -4"
I have version 5.3.1.9 installed of the utility, i tried to use 4.2, but it wouldn't recognize my device, said i had to use a version higher than 5.0 to detect my device. I tried with version 5.2 and no luck either, please help!!!
Only Windows PCs at home, sorry!

I've had a similar problem with Airport Express(not Extreme)and received exactly the same error message as the original poster "error: -4".
My system is a desktop running xp pro, Service Pack 2 (fully updated), Athlon 64 3000+.
I installed the Airport utility 5.3.1. It recognised airport express, which was plugged in and flashing amber. But when I pressed 'continue' to set up the connection, it came up with the above error message repeatedly whether I connect to the router wirelessly or with an ethernet cable- makes no difference. The router is a Thompson Speedtouch 780. An Apple senior analyst talk me through different permutations of connecting the AE directly to the computer etc, doing numerous resets but all to no avail. Looks like I'll be returning it. Shame!
