PB detects projector but not 20" Display

I'm having a strange problem when connecting my 15" PowerBook G4 Ti DVI to a new 20" Apple Cinema Display (ACD). When I first got the display, I was able to connect just fine for about 8 weeks. I went on a trip and since my return, the PB won't detect the display.
I took the PB to a Mac store and tried connecting to another 20" ACD... no luck. This lead me to believe that the PB display adapter was shot. However, I just tried to connect a Benq digital projector via VGA and the PB detects the projector without issue and works in both dual display and mirroring modes.
So far I have reset the PRAM, the NVRAM, and the PMU, but it didn't help.
I've also repaired permissions and repaired the disk (no errors found). Again, no luck.
Finally, I tried closing the lid on the PB and clicking the external mouse to see if I could force the PB to display to the external 20" ACD. The technique worked for the Benq projector, but failed for the ACD.
At this point, I'm not even sure how else to troubleshoot this issue, let alone fix it.
Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this? Could it be a corrupted driver? Is there any way to reload Apple display drivers without having to do a fresh OS install?
Your help is greatly appreciated!

Hi, Wesley. Is it possible that your monitor's DVI cable has been damaged? You've verified that your DVI port is good, and also that your DVI->VGA adapter (and of course the projector's VGA cable) are good. If the DVI cable is detachable from the monitor, I'd try a different one and see whether the results are better.
I took the PB to a Mac store and tried connecting to another 20" ACD... no luck. This lead me to believe that the PB display adapter was shot.
When you tested with the display in the store, were you using your own display cable or the store's? Why did that test, which failed, suggest to you that your display adapter was bad? It wasn't in use when you connected a DVI display to a DVI Powerbook, was it? What did the store staff say when your Powerbook failed to detect their display?
You do have a warranty and free phone support for the display; I think I'd go ahead and contact AppleCare about the problem and see whether someone there can help you. I see you've also posted in the Displays forum here; that was a good idea too.

    I've got a similar problem, my 15" aluminium powwerbook 1.5ghz will not display an image on the external 20" alu cinema display when connecting using DVI.
    Have reset pra, checked cables power, screen just stays blank!! The 20" display works fine in exactly the same situation when using my wifes 17" Macbook Pro
    The powerbook feels the external monitor [laptop screen flashes when connecting cable] but will not detect it as a valid external monitor. Use all the time at work with an external 21" CRT and VGA adaptor.
    I've searched these forums and seen a couple of people with same problem but no answer as yet.
    Very frustrating!!!

  • Actionscript works in IDE,projector but not SWF

    Hello, I'm atempting to create a swf that loads in a
    controller swf and accesses some of the information contained
    within the load swf. My main timeline is pretty simple.
    var preloader_mc:MovieClip =
    this.createEmptyMovieClip("preloader_mc",
    this.getNextHighestDepth());
    var labelcontainer:MovieClip =
    this.createEmptyMovieClip("container", this.getNextHighestDepth());
    var label:TextField = labelcontainer.createTextField("label",
    1, 0, 365, 150, 20);
    var TOCcontainer:MovieClip =
    this.createEmptyMovieClip("TOCcontainer",
    this.getNextHighestDepth());
    var TOClabel:TextField =
    TOCcontainer.createTextField("TOClabel", 1, 0, 300, 150, 20);
    then I have an onenter frame function that access the
    variable contained within the loaded swf.
    loadMovie("xml_controller.swf", preloader_mc);
    onEnterFrame = function () {
    vTime =
    this.preloader_mc.container.controlBar.timeView.label.value;
    this.label.text = vTime
    When I test the movie I see the time displayed and everything
    is ok. When I create a projector file I see the time display. When
    I try to run the swf, in a browser or straight from explorer All I
    see is undefined for the values.
    Anybody have any ideas why this would work in two
    environments but not the third?

    I saw this issue with a website I did. Sometimes the code
    would work no problem in the projector but fail when I published to
    the site.
    Does the xml_controller.swf refer to _root anywhere? If you
    have not locked the root and there is something it needs to access
    locally it won't be able to find the item because the _root it is
    referring to is now the load.swf movie

  • Macbook detects monitor, but nothing is displayed

    Hello everyone,
    I just recently bought a mini-dvi to dvi cable so i can use my 24 inch westinghouse monitor as an external monitor.
    The macbook detects the monitor but nothing shows up on monitor, i've tried putting my macbook to sleep and changing the resolution settings but i've had no luck.
    does anyone have any advice? The adapter is brand new from my school's computer store, so I'm sure that isn't the problem.
    Any help would be great!
    Cheers
    Jason

    I have this same problem with my MacBook and a Hanns-G 17" widescreen monitor I just purchased. (I had a previous Acer 20.1" widescreen monitor that I actually returned because I couldn't get it to work and figured it was a problem with the monitor; months later, I'm trying this other one and coming across the same issues.)
    It is detected, but nothing is displayed, which sounds pretty much like the same problem. I suppose it could be my adapter (which I'll test as soon as I find someone else who has a mini-DVI out port), but I'm afraid it might be my MacBook, which would be unfortunate considering I'm out of my 90 days of phone service and I live literally hours away from the nearest Apple Store, and not very much closer to an authorized repair center.
    Oh, also: I'm using OS X 10.4.11, not Leopard (yet...), if it makes a difference.
    If anyone has any more ideas, I also would love to hear them. Thanks!

  • Force password on system wakeup but not on display wakeup

    Hi everybody,
    is it possible to disable the necessary of a password when the display times out but force a password if the lid is closed and opened up again?
    I've found the possibility to set a timeout for both of them coupled in Lion. But I want the system never to ask a password when the screen goes to sleep but always ask a password when the lid is closed and opened up again.
    Thanks in advance for your help.

    I just wanted to inform you that I went to my local Apple Store and the technical staff told me the keychain issue should to be looked at by them and to bring in iMac to figure out this issue. It should not be figured out by yourself as it could be a critical security problem.

  • Z87-G45 Detects SSD, but not Windows installed in it

    So the problem started last night when my computer wanted to "update and shut down". I did that, and the next startup, the Killer 2200 would not work. So I followed the steps here to get rid of the killer suite and install just the driver. Hours later, I suffered my first BSOD with the error msg IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
    Now, every time I boot up, it will NOT detect the Windows 8.1 boot up, but it DOES detect the SSD that window's is installed.
    So how do I fix it every time? I keep reflashing and reinstalling BIOS version 1.9, that has been the only method that has gotten my computer to detect windows.
    I have talked to support already and they informed me that I need to send the motherboard in for repair/exchange. But does anyone have any advice in maybe attempting to fix this issue?

    Hi,
    Your SSD or memory might be damaged.
    Try use only one RAM stick at one time , and try with different RAM stick,
    or run memtest/HDD test tool to see if the RAM/SSD is okay.

  • Using a projector as a mirrored display

    HI,
    I'm trying to use an LCD projector to mirror my display and have connected using the VGA connector. The iBook seems to detect it but nothing is displayed on the projector apart from 'No RGB input detected'. I've tried following the instructions given in Help but I'm missing the 'Arrange displays' tab that it talks about and any search tells me that 'this option is missing as the computer does not support an extended desktop', or something along those lines.
    I know the projector is OK because I was using it with a Powerbook yesterday but I only have access to an iBook at home and desperately need this to work.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Rhiannon

    Does the projector itself have any manual settings that may need to be "set" when using particular types of input? Does it provide a USB option as well as an alternative, too, perhaps?
    Have you clicked on "Detect Displays" in the System Preferences /Displays/ Display tab , after connecting the projector ? Does the iBook have the "screen spanning" hack from http://www.rutemoeller.com/mp/ibook/ibook_e.html installed on it? (might be worth trying if all else fails or removing, by zapping the PRAM, if it is already installed but causing problems)
    Tried a different VGA cable for the projector?
    Cheers

  • Mini Displayport to DVI working in Bootcamp but not in Leopard

    I've got a new unibody MBP together with a mini displayport to dvi adapter.
    When I connected the dvi cable with the MDP2DVI adapter to my new MBP and my 3-months-old Benq 20" LCD monitor, nothing shown up no matter how I tried. The monitor just kept saying no signal could be detected.
    Being frustrated so I did some googling, and I'm surprised by the vast number of people who have got problems with the external display!! I really didn't notice this before I decided to buy this MBP and I'm a little regretted, coz the 2nd monitor is so essential to the productivity of my work...
    After searching around for a solution for some time, I am pessimistic of waiting for a solution from apple as I see some people had already address this issue in late 2008 but till now seems no solution had came out.
    Last night when I use bootcamp to enter Windows XP, surprisingly it can recognize my external display!!! So now I am quite sure that it's the problem of Leopard but not the display hardware nor the adapter nor my monitor/cable. Did anybody have the similar problem as me tried this in bootcamp??

    keepyourpower,
    For what its worth I've been having much the same issue with my Macbook Pro. Leopard will refuse to see the external display while Windows Vista on bootcamp 90% of the time will but not without some effort. I've been able to get Leopard to use the display after going in to Windows and manually selecting display attached in the display properties menu. It doesn't always work but it will sometimes.
    I'm 100% sure there is a flaw in the logicboard on some of the 2.4 Ghz that is causing this issue. I recently sent my portable in for repairs and they replaced the display which is why it was in and the Logicboard. I'm not sure why they replaced my Logicboard nothing was wrong with it, but with the new one its having much the same problem as you. As I said before I'm 100% sure this is a hardware defect in the Logic Board and if you are within your 14 day return window I'd see about asking your local Apple store to exchange the unit for a new one.
    Not really sure if this will help you at all but didn't want you to think you were alone with this issue..
