PB doesn't always start up/won't run on charged battery
I have a 15" aluminum PowerBook that I've slowly been bringing back to life after it had a full mug of coffee dumped into it. I cleaned everything out and it's working again, for the most part. However, there are a couple of unresolved problems. The biggest is the computer doesn't always start up. I've also noticed that it won't run on the battery alone, even though the battery is fully charged. When unplugging the computer, the screen goes dark but the computer is still making noise -- it's running to some extent. Any pointers on how to get things running again properly would be greatly appreciated.
If you're able to charge the battery while it's in the computer, and pushing the button on the back of the battery shows all the LEDs lighting up, that suggests that you have a logic board problem. There are only 4 components to the charging circuit: power adapter, DC-in card, battery, and logic board. If what you described is that you can hook the power adapter up and charge the battery completely in the computer, the only component left is the logic board.
While there aren't any tests I've found to test the charging circuit, have you run the Apple hardware test or either of the TechTool programs to test the system? Insert your original OS X disk that says 'AHT Version x.x' in small print on the label. Reboot holding the option key down, choose the Apple hardware test, and when prompted choose the extended test. Does that give you any errors?

Macbook won't run off charged battery
My battery indicators on screen and underneath the Macbook show maximum charge but when I remove the power adaptor, it dies.
This started to happen a few days ago after a couple of years with zero problems. I tried re-setting the SMC but it makes no difference. As the battery is charged, it seems unlikely just changing it will help.
Any ideas please?
The spec is.

MB won't run from charged battery
Hi,
My MB has developed a problem in which it will only run when connected to the mains. The battery is fully charged but within a few seconds of removing the mains lead it all goes black. The MB is less than 2 years old and I have had no previous problems. I have copied the battery information (below)

Any help will be very much appreciated!
Thanks
AlanMBFrom the information you have posted, there is no obvious reason why your battery should be failing or why your MacBook is not working unplugged.
However, the first line of attack for any battery problem is to reset the SMC. Follow the instructions here:

If that does not address your issue, you may need to call AppleCare or visit an Apple store. -
Flash Builder 4.0.1 profiler doesn't always start correctly
Hi,
I'm using Flash Builder 4.0.1 Premium to profile my application but the profiler doesn't always start (hook) correctly. Sometimes it works at first try, sometimes I have to restart the profiler up to 10 times before it finally hooks.
It's very annoying and waste of time. Do you have any solution for this?
Thanks!
MatetnicEverything is set up correctly with the path folder - as this error occurs with an empty, blank, default AIR app built via "new".
I believe this is an error with 4.0.1 - as when I installed 4.5 demo (on OS X); this problem doesn't exist and I had no problems building an AIR app.
So either there's a problem with my version/copy/install of Flash Builder or it has something to do with the AIR/FB/and VMWare/Win7.

My USB mouse doesn't always start at boot.
After updating from Arch 0.7.1 to 0.8, one of the big pile of bugs I had was that my USB mouse doesn't always start at boot. In fact, when I start the computer, the red LED in the mouse lights up but sometimes it switches off after the menu where I can choose to use Arch linux or .. Arch linux.
So, the mouse switches off before I startx one time on two. When it happens I just deplug and replug it but I hate to do that.
Need some help.dmesg when the mouse isn't working :

Powerbook won't run off of battery - requires PMU reset to power up with AC
Like everyone else posting here, my powerbook won't run from the battery. I have two batteries, one that came with the computer 3 - 4 years ago and a newer one that I purchased about 1 year ago. When I am plugged into AC using iStat Nano the newer battery shows cycles 173, health 89%. The older battery show cycles 0 and health 100% (go figure!). Both batteries just say 'calculating' on the tool bar battery meter. The light around the AC adapter plug always shows green as if the batteries are fully charged.
Here is where my post differs from the others. Once I shut down the computer I can't power it up again with reseting the PMU. I've tried reseting NVRAM and deleting and re-establishing the powermanagement plist as suggested elsewhere on this forum to no avail.
Is the PMU something that can be replaced? How is it related to DC-IN? I've read elsewhere here that is another problem that could cause these symptoms. Has anyone had these two components repaired and did it fix the problem? How much did it cost?
Thanks in advance for any information you can give men.I had the same experience. I have 10.4.10 on the cloned drive but the battery is still not charging. I decided to take a closer look at the battery updater instructions and discovered that even though I am at 10.4.11 on my Powerbook the BatteryUpdater.bundle was at revision 1.1.3 and hadn't been updated since Jan 6, 2006. So I downloaded the BatteryUpdate that is posted at the top of this forum and installed it. It has made no difference in the operation of the computer. The AC adapter still isn't charging the battery although the green ring light is on which usually indicates the battery is charged. furthermore, when I go back and look at the date and version number on the BatteryUpdater.bundle they haven't changed. Who knows what the update actually changed! There is no mention of it running in the software update log. My system profiler says:
The battery is installed
Full charge Capacity 3890
Remaining Capacity 0
Cycle Count 173
AC adapter cannot charge battery: YES
By the way, my battery is a replacement battery.
I have just about exhausted all my option other than taking it into an Apple repair store and I'm not sure at this point I want to give Apple any more of my money. I am going to live with it the way it is for a while in the hopes that someone will post a fix for the problem. Good luck with your investigation. If you find out anything else please post it here as I will check back on a regular basis. If I find out anything else I will do the same. Nice working with you. -
HT4314 how do I turn off a game after playing so the app won't run down my battery?
How do I turn off a game after playing it so the app won't run down the battery. This has happened 2x and I have had to reset my phone.
To completely close an app (though a lot of apps don't remain active when you switch into a different app or go to the homescreen) : from the home screen (i.e. not with the app that you want to close 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.

Poject doesn't always start on slide #1?
I have created a project using Captivate 4. I published as a swf file. When I open the swf file the first time, it starts at the beginning on the 1st slide. If I then close the swf file in the middle of another screen and then re-open it, it starts again on the screen where I closed it. Is there a preference or something I can set so it always starts on the 1st screen, at the beginning?
TIA,
AdrianaHi Adriana. I think what you are seeing is the Self Paced Learning feature of the Table of Contents. Open up your TOC (Project >> Table of Contents), then be sure you're on the TOC tab, then click the Settings button. See if the Self Paced Learning check box is selected. Un-check it if it is.
Hope this help.

I've had my computer for a little over a month, and the other day it stopped running off the battery. Everything is fine when I have the AC adapter plugged in, but the computer won't start up if it is disconnected. I ran the computer off the battery more often than not before this started happening. I removed the battery and put it back in a few times, but that didn't help. Has anyone seen this before? Thanks!
Mine did almost the exact same thing.
A few days after the update, it started registering 32 hours of remaining charge (33500+ MhA), and one day, all of a sudden, the battery just died.
Mac OS says there is no battery installed, obviously it won't charge or run on battery power, when I press the LED button it does nothing. It's just dead.
My machine is almost 2 months old... I called Apple and complained about this whole thing, because my machine has almost every other defect out there, including the whine, the almost unbearable temperatures, the moo, and the LED buzz... so I told them that enough was enough and that I wanted a new machine.
They just said I sould drop it off at the Apple Center, and THEY would decide if should get a new machine.
I feel so terribly frustrated. How is it possible that you spend $2000+ Dlls on a machine that after just 2 months does all these things, and still be treated unfairly, like an idiot, with arguments like "It's our decision if we replace the machine, or repair it..." ??
This is just not fair. But what can we do, right? -
Satellite C650 won't run while charging
I recently had to replace my charger, I purchased exact same one from a reputable store, however even though it charges, my laptop won't run unless it is at 100%. I then bought a new battery & another new charger but the problem is still there. So basically I can only use my laptop with battery only or wait till it's a 100% charged?
Can anyone please help?>It starts with battery removed but it won't load any pages
What does this mean exactly? What pages did you mean?
If you power up the unit, can you see the Toshiba splash screen at the beginning and does Windows boot properly?
Did you notice this issue BEFORE you have replaced the AC adaptor?
Why did you replace the AC adaptor?
From my point of view this issue has nothing to do with AC adaptor or battery
It could be an motherboard related issue -
HP4560US won't run on new battery
I replaced my battery and let it charge until the charge light turned green before I used the new battery. My notebook also has a weak power jack and sometimes will quit powering the notebook until it is moved or twisted. Even with a full charge, it will only run for about 30 seconds if the AC power fails or if I try to run it on battery power only. I pulled the fully charged battery from the computer and pressed the test button on the side of the battery and it lit all but the last LED. Is the battery not charging sufficiently or is there a setting the allows changing the voltage level of a fully charged battery? In Power Management I have disabled all shut down options in an attempt to see how long it would run on battery alone.
The information you requested is as follows: Model Number is HP Pavillion ze4500 s/n CNF3432HP8 P/N DM736A#ABA ze4560US. There has been no new hardware OR drivers added recently. The operating system is Windows XP Home with the latest Service Pack.
However, while looking the computer over and the labels, I think I have found the problem. I won't know until I can get another charger which I have ordered. The plug on the power supply has a yellow plastic insulator that extended beyond the barrel of the connector. I had known for a long time that part of that had broken off. I DID NOT know where that piece had gone, thinking it broke in handling the power supply. I happened to look into the power jack (which is HPs weak point on all of their laptops....at least up to this model. I have replaced that jack at least twice and I believe a third time but there is barely enough to solder to the main board and I hesitated to try to replace it again) and found that broken ring of plastic inside the jack. I believe that power jack has a switch on it operated bye the insertion of the plug to charge the battery and I'm guessing that the ring is not allowing the battery to be connected to the mainboard when the AC power fails. I removed the battery to prevent a short while trying to remove the broken piece but failed to remove it. I have some other ideas to try but decided that I should wait until I receive a new power supply since after I run the battery down it may not recharge once that is removed.
Let me know what you think and I'll let you know how things turn out. If you believe I'm wrong about this, I'm open to any other thoughts. Thanks, Ron -
WinProducer2 start error, won't run with nVidia Capture drivers
I'm not having a good experience with the bundled WinProducer2 that came with my MX440VT8x-128.
If I have either of the versions of the nVidia capture-drivers that came on the card's CD (that's v. 1.16 or 1.18) installed, or the 1.22 version from nVidia's website (as of 2-20-03), and then try to start WinProducer, I get the same start-error every time:
"WinProducer.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows....need to restart program...an error log is being generated."
If I look at the Dr. Watson log, it says WinProducer 2 generated "Exception Violation c00005."
If I uninstall the nVidia capture-drivers, WinProducer2 opens right up just fine, but, of course, with no capture capability.
I downloaded and tried (after uninstalling v.2) WinProducer3 from InterVideo's website yesterday (2/20/03), with the exact same results! ???
Anybody else having this problem?
This is under Win2k, w/SP2, then added SP3, with no improvement.
StennAfter I made the original post, I tried a lot more things that didn't help:
I booted in safe mode and tried it but PSP gave an error message that it wouldn't run with the screen resolution that low (800x600); so it did try to run. So I booted normally and set the screen rez to 800x600 manually, then tried to run PSP and got the same error message.
I did a clean boot with all start-up programs and all services disabled; PSP still wouldn't run.
I disabled my anti-virus and PSP still wouldn't run.
Disabled my video card in the device manager and booted with my on-board video; PSP still wouldn't run.
There's never an error message as long as the screen rez is high enough; when I try to run it, it looks like it's starting to run but nothing ever happens. -
MBP won't run off charger, but original battery on life support
I want to run my MBP off just the charger, because my battery is (surprise) bulging.
However, it won't even try to start.
The charger (not original) appears identical to original (original pulled exposed wires from base) but was given with the new 13"; I thought all MBP's had the same charger, tho, and it's the Macbooks that use a lower power cord?
Advise, explain.ooops

Mbp won't run (even without battery)
Hi, all.
I noticed a few days ago, my mbp shut down when batt life was at 30%. Battery is on the way out I thought. But now I'm getting worried as mbp will not switch on at all. Even when connected to the power adaptor, battery in or out. The battery indicators say full power. It's a 2008 model, the last before the unibody came out (yup that was gutting!).
According to other threads it should still work with the power supply if the battery is dead. Is this correct? When I push the power button it (mechanically) sounds like it will start, then all is dead after 5 seconds.
Could it be the battery, or does it sound more serious, I have tried the cmd/ctrl power and pram reset

Did you try a SMC reset?

MP3 Player (Zen Micro)won't recognize fully charged battery and won't recognize compu
Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas for me. I can not download the new firmware until I can get the computer to stay connected to the MP3 Player long enough. The only way I can use the MP3 Player is if it is plugged into the wall. Any ideas of why the MP3 Player will not recognize the fully charged battery?
Thank you?
Kukmeri? Is it possible that your battery might be worn out or defecti've? If a fully charged battery only lasts a very short period, there would either be a problem with the player cutting off at the incorrect voltage or the battery itself is not capable of holding much of a charge.
