Pb export/import keywords with psd file

While working with export and import of metadata, I found the following strange behavior with LR1.3.1:
0) Initial keywords
1) In LR, I modified keywords of a psd file
2) Export of metadata
3) Remove all keywords of the picture in LR
4) Then, reload of keywords.
=> I should get keywords defined at the step 1
and I always get initial keywords (step 0). It appears than something is not working as I would expect when importing, just exported data.
Any help to understand this behavior or workaround would be welcome.
Thanks all,
PH

As Curt stated, the keywords are written to the file itself and will not be cleared using the clear and import function in Keywords.
Using the clear and import option is useful if you want to get rid of the default keywords or have a better new list for import at hand. If you already have assigned some of these old keywords to files and they are not present in your current list then they will show as italic in the keyword panel (usually at the bottom under "Other keywords") once a file with this old keyword is selected in Bridge.
When a keyword is in italic then you have the option to make it again persistent in your new list using right mouse click menu or leave it as it is. Using the find option in the menu should provide you with the result of all present keywords in the files you are searching in, regardless if they are in the list or not.

  • AIR app with PSD files

I am new to AIR and thinking about making a [simplistic]
image editing app. Ideally, I would love to have the app allow
users to import a Photoshop PSD file, and be able to manipulate the
layers of the file in simple ways (either move them or turn the
    visibility on/off, that's all).
But, before trying something futile, I thought I'd ask -
would that even be possible? I know Flash can load and manipulate
JPGs and the like, but a PSD is doubtful. Just asking in case
    there's something I don't know though.
    Thanks!

Thanks Joe. I figured I'd have to write my own code, but I'm
not against trying so long as it's actually feasible. I did some

  • Importing XMP sidecar with PSD files

I've got a boatload of PSD files in Aperture with keywords and other metadata. I want to import these into LR5.
Aperture will not (AFAIK) write the metadata I have in Aperture to the files themselves since they are PSDs. But it does write to XMP files, so I exported a test batch, PSD + sidecar of same name to a folder. I go to import that folder into LR5 and it works, except no metadata.
I checked the metadata in the sidecars with a text editor; it's there.
I tried the Metadata>Read Metadata from File menu; nothing.
    What's up?

Thanks. One problem is that Aperture doesn't seem to put things in the XMP that I'm interested in, or in places I wanted in sidecars. I didn't get too far into it, but it seemed to write a more complete set of data into the tiffs than into the sidecar for the same file. I didn't really care if it was in XMP or exif or IPTC or wherever as long as it was useful in LR. As it turned out, exporting to tiff with the metadata from Aperture was the fastest way to go for thousands of files.
BTW, anyone have a nice chart with where various bits of metadata are stored by common applications? Although each has it's own standard there doesn't seem to be enough agreement about where a "keyword" or "tag" winds up in exif, IPTC, XMP, xattr, etc. Annoying. Supposedly Mavericks in the MacOS is gonna have some support for tagging (gee, welcome to the 21st century) in lieu of labels; wonder if they'll make any use of any of the formats we use.
BTW, Graphic Converter 8 was very helpful in massinging metadata and reorganizing in the move from Aperture to LR. After all these years it still proves to be super useful.

  • Can't import RAW and psd file with same name different extension

Trying to import a folder of images from desktop that I have been working with in Bridge CS3.
LR won't import a RAW file that has a PSD file by the same name. Tried renaming the PSD and deleting the one with the same name, but says it is still there and won't import the RAW file - What is the correct workaround on this? Why can't it import same name files with different extensions?

A forum search for 'RAW + JPEG' will give you more posts on this than you care to read. This will change. For now, import the RAW and PSD's from separate folders and then move them together for within LR.
LR is seeing the RAW as a sidecar to the PSD. It is an unforseen effect of the RAW + JPEG thing where they decided to not import the JPEG, seeing it as basically a preview image for the RAW.

  • Problems importing keywords with image

I have exported keywords from another program (IMatch) to both embedded iptc and xmp files. The problem is that I can't get LR to assign the keywords to the pictures when importing, or when trying the "import meta from xmp file" option. I have tried with both jpeg- and cr2-files (cr2 is raw from EOS 20D). The strange thing is that all keywords assigned to the pictures shows up to the left in the keywords panel, so LR somehow reads the keywords from the files and knows about the existence of these keywords, but, as I said, does not assign the keywords to the keywords field of the respective images. The keywords show up perfectly fine in Adobe Bridge.

Can't say, as I don't have Aperture installed- actually did, but trial ran out- to test definitively.
    <br />
<br />Either someone with same experience will come along and say, or you could try a small controlled experiment to see if perhaps you didn't select All photos on importing the xmp file, etc.

  • FW CS6 internal error while trying to open or import CS5.5 psd file

Just installed CS6 and I'm trying to open a psd file, I see the preview of the file but cannot open or import it, I get the error message.
    Anyone can help me? thanks!

Have you tried saving the psd file in Photoshop with legacy support (Maximize Compatibility)?
If you received this psd file from an external source, it may be a Photoshop CC file. It may not be compatible with Fireworks at all. Or perhaps the psd file is corrupt - try opening it in Photoshop, and resave.
Unfortunately Fireworks' development was stopped last year by Adobe, and it is dead in the water by now. I would not expect a lot of support on their side anymore.

  • Transparency Issues with PSD files in FCP 7

I'm having some weird file layer transparency issues with FCP 7. I'm working on a project that's made up entirely of graphics drawn in Photoshop CS5. They Photoshop settings were done to match an HDTV 1080i (16:9) sequence in FCP. In FCP, the pixels were set to square, field dominance to none, frame rate to 29.97 and compressor is Apple ProRes 422.
I exported my PSD files out of Photoshop, with each layer being exported to its own file. In general, things were fine, but there were a few files where you could see the outline of the character against the background, but mind you that this is only visible once the video is rendered out in the FCP timeline. Nothing is visible in Photoshop, nor is it visible while viewing from the Browser in FCP. I told this to the artist and he went back and made corrections, making sure everything was on a transparent background, but the result was still the same - once I rendered the graphics out in FCP, these edge lines were visible.
I then went back into Photoshop, opened all the files that were giving me trouble, clicked on the "foreground color" and changed it to a color other than white, then back to white and hit ok. That seemed to work - even when rendered out, I was getting no artifacts, until I tried enlarging the graphics over 100%.
Also, with some of the same graphics, I was trying to layer them so that a guy was in the foreground with other people and a van behind him in the background. Once again, no problem in Photoshop, but once brought into FCP, the background people were actually being displayed over the main foreground character.
I'm pretty baffled - what to do? I'll attach a photo of the weird lines around the characters. It might be hard to see at this size, but if you download and enlarge it to 300% or so, you'll see what I mean.

Just saw that Adam's original post was an older one.  Will keep this here anyway to maybe help the most recent poster.

Adam, did you try what David said about pointing to the root folder?  Did that work?
When I copy the SD card, I name a new folder on my hard drive something specific, like Smith Wedding.  Then I copy everything inside the SD card to that new folder.  The first level inside my new folder now has folders for
    AVF_INFO
    PRIVATE
and on down from there.  When you open Log and Transfer, point it to the Smith Wedding folder (of course whatever you have named yours).
ClipWrap2 also works great to convert the files beforehand if you want.
What camera are you using?  I have the Sony NX30 and it was giving me fits because the .mts files don't ingest if the clips are longer than 11 min. My problem is that I'm still on FCP 6.0.6.  I think 7.0.3 fixed that.  But I did find enough work-arounds to keep the camera.

  • Export/import text with all styles (indesign CS3 (XP SP2))

I'm looking for the best way to export text so authors can edit their text using MS Word, Excel or xml. (they don't want to use Indesign). after they are done editting I want to import the text back into Indesign (with par, char, obj styles).
I know how to import/export to .doc with styles, but this doesn't work for table, object styles, and page breaks.
Xml tags or plugin/software might be a solution.
I've searched the forums, google and read the help file, but still don't know what the best/quickest solution might be. ... ?
    thanks in advance

    1. Those programs don't support every feaature of InDesign, so you are out of luck.
    2. If they don't want to use InDesign, ask them to use InCopy, that is the only one programm which supports the whole InDesgin-functionlity
    3. Page breaks should never be done manually, never in Word, neither with InDesign. They should be created via paragraph styles in both program, but with the import options is a checker to get Word's page breaks.

  • Importing problems with MP4 files.

A friend of mine wanted me to make a DVD  with some media files that they sent me (all with .mp4 extentions). I've just purchased CS6 Premuin Pro so I thought I'd try ENCORE to do it with (previously I've been using DVDStyler). However I had problems with importing the mp4 files they sent. Some of the files import OK, but with others I get this error:
Couldn't import file FILENAME, Quicktime and/or the appropriate codec do not appear to be installed.
Now I did have Quicktime Alternative, along with the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack installed. Did a bit of searching and found advice to remove the K-Lite pack and Quicktime Alternative, and update with Quicktime and another set of Codecs (I've installed the Windows 7 codec pack v4.06, as I'm using Win7). However, I'm still getting the same error message when I try and import some of the files. I don't know their origin or what created them as such. However, I did download a copy of MediaInfo and got the following for each type of file.

Just what is the problem here? Why will the first type of file import OK, but the second not, and what can be done about that (do I need to load an extra codec, and if so what)?  The odd thing is that using a program like DVDStyler, I can load those files and actually build a DVD. And yes, I know that's an entirely different program, but it just seems odd to me that an open-source program seems to do something Encore can't (and I'd much rather use Encore to build DVDs). No doubt this is something obvious but I'm a novice with Encore and Premiere, so I'm missing it anyway.

Codec packs, even the "better" ones, do not typically provide codecs that Premiere and Encore can use.
The "problem" file is a flash format (whether it is an mp4 container or not).
"Consumer" type DVD authoring/burning applications, and even more so, all in one apps like windows movie maker etc, may be more "powerful" when you are trying to take a large range of formats and create a DVD with relatively few options. This is not Encore's strength.
Encore will reject almost anything that has flaws it isn't able to handle, but more importantly (once you get to this step), it will treat as noncompliant (and  re-transcode) anything that is not DVD compliant.
My guess is that you need to get  the flash into something that will work better for transcoding to DVD compliant.
I would first try to bring one of the problem files into Adobe Media Encore, and see if you can export an MPEG2-DVD file.
Not that, while there are some less known DVD resolutions, I assume you are going to end up with 720x576 PAL. I wonder what the quality will look like....
If you are just looking to get the files onto a DVD to play on a DVD player, just stick with DVDStyler.

  • Is it best to import images as .psd files or .tif or another format?

Hi, when working in the default 1080i is it best to import .psd files or go through the trouble of rendering the .psds to .tifs in Photoshop, to then import the .tifs??
It seems HDTV 1080p .psds have a different aspect ratio -- and, the black background of the .psd file I've imported into FCP appears dull green rather than black. Is there a reason for this? .tifs seem fine...thanks

If your not going to do any individual layer effects or animation then TIFF's would be generally easier and faster to work with. If you are gong to do some effects and layer animation you should do that in Motion then bring the Motion project into FCP.
My Opinion, My Two Cents, That's might be what its worth.

  • PSE 13 "Import Keyword Tags From File" Fails

Whenever I try to do the above command, it fails. As shown in the attached figure it gets to 9%. Does anyone have any ideas on how to troubleshoot this error?
    Thanks in advance.

is there a way to import tags from PSE 12
The PSE 12 Organizer and LR 5 use different file formats for exporting and importing keyword hierarchies. PSE uses XML format, while LR 5 uses a tab-separated format.  If you're a programmer or technically minded, you could convert from one to the other using your favorite scripting language.
But the approach suggested by dj_paige can be modified to accomplish what you want without scripting, by copying the keyword hierarchy from the "upgraded" LR catalog that was created from your PSE catalog to your "good" LR catalog:
    1. Make a manual backup of your "good" LR catalog: Lightroom Help | Back up a catalog.
    2. In LR, open the catalog that you created previously by upgrading (converting) the PSE catalog -- you can usually get to that catalog by doing File > Open Recent.
    3. Go to grid view in the Library by doing Window > Library followed by View > Grid (usually you're already in Library grid view, but just in case...)
    4. Make sure the Keyword List panel is showing on the right by doing Window > Panels > Keyword List.
    5. You should see the keyword hierarchy from your PSE catalog.  If you don't, stop and post a screen shot of the entire LR screen.
    6. Do Metadata > Export Keywords to export those keywords as a LR-format text file.
    7. Open your "good" LR catalog by doing File > Open Recent.
    8. Do Metadata > Import Keywords and select the file you exported in step 6.
    9. All the keywords that were exported in step 6 will be added to the current catalog, and there will be duplicate keywords if there were already keywords of the same name in the catalog.  Those new keywords will not be attached to any existing photos in the current catalog.

  • Export Table along with Link Files

    Moved from 1.6 to 2.0.
Exported my application from 1.6 and imported it into 2.0 - used "Application Export" feature - works fine.
Exported most of my tables from 1.6 to 2.0 - used "Table Export" feature - works fine.
Problem, I have certain Tables that reference/link to "uploaded files". These are PDFs, SLS and other files - now referenced/linked by these Tables. How do I move over these tables and their linked/uploaded files?

Maybe this should have been posted with a title of Backup Process.
We had a server running 10.1 and HTMLDB 1.6. We installed another server and put 10.2 on it with HTMLD 1.6. We couldn't move over everything because we were going from 10.1 to 10.2 -- so we moved over the tables -- this was recommended by Oracle.
Our tables came over ok but those tables that had attachments/links/uploads in them came over without the attachments/links/uploads. In their place came cryptic references(pointers?) but not the attachemnts.
Our end game here is to have 2 servers so that if one fails then we can use the other server. We are now upgrading both servers to 10.2. When both servers have 10.2 we will stop upgrading (for a long time) the database. The database had to be upgraded because of a bug in the Enterprise Manager Backup Process.
We will want new versions Applcation Express/HTMLDB. We would upgrade both machines to keep them compatable.
Maybe there is utility (that we can comprehend) that allows us to Export tables with attachments from one server and Import them with their attachments into the other server. Or, maybe going forward we should not try to move tables with attachments using Application Express export utilities but move over workspaces or schemas or something.

  • CS3 Still Very Slow with psd files

I'm still having terrible performance issues with CS3 and imported CMYK psd files containing spot colours. I have a 9MB psd file with two spot colours imported into a layer in Illustrator, with some illustrator line work on top. Just zooming in give me a 5 second screen redraw, everything is very sluggish and occasionally I get a crash. I still get these weird alert box saying "Generating Pixels" now and again when importing the psd files.
    G5 Dual 2.0GHz, 2.5GB RAM, OSX 10.4.11, Illustrator 13.02, Photoshop 10.0.1.
I'm not having these issues on a different mac running CS2.

I'm thinking it might be RAM, I have Photoshop and Illustrator open at the same time. I have around 100GB of scratch disk space.
But weirdly the slowness is not apparent using CS2. Things are just dead slow with a Photoshop file placed in Illustrator CS3. These files are only 30MB, but contain 3 spot channels + CMYK. Even with preview mode switched off, it's still very slow and I mean everything slows down.
There is a lot of disk activity going on, so maybe my hard disks on this 3 year old mac are just getting too long in the tooth.
What drives me nuts is I remember doing the same kind of work in Illustrator 8 on a G4 running System 9 and everything was MUCH faster.
Oh, and I'd better not mention how fast Freehand was for this kind of work...
