PB G4 17" 1.5hz:: slot1 (reversed) == EMPTY. WHAT?!!!

I've just recently discovered that my Powerbook G4 17" (1.5hz) is no longer happy with its SLOT1 (Reversed) memory slot. Whereas I previously had two (2x) 1gig SODIMMS in there, installed for me on the day I bought it by the Apple guys, I now have only 1gig available.
Swapping the SODIMMS around reveals that yes, in fact, the reversed slot (SLOT1) no longer works. Both SODIMM chips work just fine in the upper slot, reporting 1gig of RAM, but neither one is detected by the bottom slot. I bought this machine in September 2004 .. so that means I'm screwed, right?
Anyone know a solution? The problem is I no longer live in the country I bought this Powerbook (Australia) and have to suffer through the European Apple support dilemna .. is there an easier way to fix this? Is it something I can repair myself (I'm a qualified electronics repair guy, can handle a lot of the surface-mount repair stuff myself in my own lab...)
If anyone has any clues how to fix this without a) paying Apple through the nose to fix their hardware bugs, and b) having to ship my most important work-tool back to Australia, and c) waiting weeks and weeks.. please let me know. I really want my 2Gigs back!

Had you purchased AppleCare, you'd still be under its coverage today. The AppleCare coverage is 3 years from date of computer's purchase. In the future always purchase AppleCare in the first year. Unfortunately the memory slot replacement program only applies to the 15" Powerbook and not the 17". Therefore, your issue would have to be resolved under AppleCare. I would contact AppleCare wherever you are at and at least let them know you have the issue. http://www.apple.com/contact/phone_contacts.html
Unless more people having the issue report to AppleCare directly that they are having it, the chances of us seeing a repair program that extends beyond:

won't ever get extended to other models.
You might want to try resetting the PRAM and see if that helps.

My PB17 have a different kind of problem. When I installed a piece of 1G on the reserved slot, the Mac loaded but crashed after the desktop came up. Initially, I thought it was a bad memory but the 1G works well on an IBM Thinkpad. Now, my PB17 works on 2 pieces of 512MB SODIMM. Any help?

Your description points to memory that doesn't work on the Powerbook, even though it works on the Thinkpad. Are you sure that the specs are exactly the same between the two systems (Apple specs can be found at http://support.apple.com/specs/powerbook/PowerBookG4_17-inch_15GHz.html) ? What brand is it, and does the manufacturer say it should work on a Powerbook?
Powerbooks are generally sensitive to the quality of RAM used, and while some RAM will meet Apple's printed specs, they don't always work. Apple's use of memory bus slewing can really challenge some memory.

I use a two button mouse with my Mac Book Pro. It works fine, but after installing Lion, the mouse wheel goes in reverse of what it did (rolling the wheel towards your palm goes up not down the page). Anyone know how to fix this?

An iPod can only sync with one iTunes library. The iPod sees the rebuilt computer as a new iTunes library. To make this computer the syncing computer
- Transfer iTunes purchases:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
- Transfer other music by using a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
newer copy
- Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
- Restore the iPod from that backup.
Note that the iPod backup that iTunes makes does not include synced media like apps and music.

What do you see in Finder when you try to open such a folder. If you see a big blue folder icon, then there is something mixed up with your user privileges.
Highlight the folder, and press CMD+I to get the info window.
At the bottom of that window is a section called "Sharing & Permissions". In there you'll see some users and the Privilege associated with that user. If you have the Privilege of 'Read only' then you need to change this to 'Read & Write'.
To do this, click on the closed lock-icon at the bottom right of the info window. You'll be asked to enter your administrator username and password (mostly these are the same as your login credentials). After that, you can change the privilege of the user to 'Read & Write'.
Before closing the info window, also tick the gear-icon on the bottom of the info window and select 'Apply to enclosed items...'. Depending on how many files and subfolders there are in this folder, it might take some time to change all privileges.
After all changes are done you can close the info window, and all your files should be visible to you again.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

My applications folder is suddenly empty, what happened and how do I fix it?

I was moving things around on my desktop and folders and now my applications folder is empty. All programs are still working, but I can't see any of them. What happened and how do I fix it? I'd greatly appreciate the help!

Click the Spotlight magnifying glass icon top right in your screen then type in the name of an application.
Hopefully it will show where it is.

Path is reverse of what I need....Can I alter the path so the shift/command/I is saved

Sometimes when I path an image I will get the opposite effect.
The object will be removed instead of the background. This is shown in the path window panel as the object (a guitar) is dark and the background is light. When I activate the path - then copy and paste the image the object is removed not the background.
I know I can shift/command/I to reverse the path but that does not correct the file. It is permanently saved as the opposite of what I want.
I want to create .tiffs that I can take into Indesign and utilize the path. But with the current file I only get the background with the guitar removed.
Is there a way truly reverse the paths information (resulting in showing the object light and background dark in the path panel icon)
I called tech support and they told me it's a file problem and should do behave this way. It happened in cs2 and cs4
I suspect I am causing this to happen but I don't know what I'm doing.
I pathed 30 files and about 10 came out this way.

thanks. I read something like that in the forum before I made my post. I tried it but it had no affect on my files....
( I also asked the Adobe tech about it; telling him it did not work for me - oddly enough he told me tech does not support forum solutions:-)
With the path selected, should it be as simple as clicking the pen tool and clicking the 2nd box in the options
I've also tried this with the path highlighted, non highlighted and inverted.
Nothing works.

while i was downloading the drivers i must have done some thing wrong the next day all my files are empty. and still are i had 4 disc of back up and only two it reconice the thirt one get spat out. I write this on my new computer so that i have the time (and maybe some saved money ) to fix it.

Apple's policy on sales of digital content is that all sales are final. If however you wish to appeal to Apple, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History on your computer.
Currently, if your purchase happens to be your most recent purchase you will not be redirected to the report form, in this case use the report a problem option from the invoice that was emailed to you.
You can set up your device to require a password for purchase from the app store either immediately or after 15 minutes of being previously used. (Settings > General > Restrictions > Allowed Content > Require Password)
More often than not this stops unwanted purchases by others, but does not stop In-App purchases, to disable In-App purchases, go to Settings > General > Restrictions > Allowed Content > In-App Purchases > Off.

The Apple.com site usually defaults to the U.S version of the site.
On a side note, if you are located in the United States, please try rebooting your phone, signing into your Apple ID and launch the music app.

I am taking courses online and the newer version of firefox 4.0 isn't compatible with the java, which I use on my web page. And I need to go back to the older version of 3.614. How do I reverse to what I had before?

In most cases you can simply "upgrade" (meaning downgrade) directly from the installation. It would be a good idea to save your passwords & bookmarks just to be on the safe side.
