  • Can you suggest a best way to store and read arabic from oracle database?

    Hi ,
    can you suggest a best way to store and read arabic from oracle database?
    My oracle database is Oracle Database 10g Release 10.1.0.5.0 - 64bit Production on unix HP-UX ia64.
    NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET AL16UTF16
    NLS_LANGUAGE AMERICAN
    NLS_TERRITORY AMERICA
    NLS_CHARACTERSET WE8ISO8859P1
    I have presently stored the data in nvarchar2 field. But i am not able to display it correctly.

    Using the national characterset should work but there are other factors that you have to consider when working with NCHAR/NVARCHAR2/NCLOB.
    If possible, changing the characterset is usually the best solution if it's a possiblity for you.
    For more info:
    Dear Gurus: Can u pls explain the difference between VARCHAR2 & NVARCHAR2??

  • Problem in retrieving arabic data (Oracle Report Builder)

    Hi ,
    - When I built a report using report builder and click run paper layout icon, all retrieved Arabic and English data , labels, Header and Titles appear fine also font properties( font, size, bold) appear fine.
    But when click run web layout icon for the same report ,
    - all Arabic retrieved data appears ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? .
    - Arabic labels appear fine.
    - Headers and Titles didn’t appear at all .
    - All font properties( font, size, bold) don’t appear , I used many fonts like (Times New Roman, Arabic Transparent, Arial,…)
    - NLS_Lang in registry= american_america.ar8mswin1256 which supports English and Arabic languages.
    And I can insert and retrieve Arabic and English data from SQL+ and iSQL , so I feel that settings of NLS_Lang and
    CONTROL PANEL-REGIONAL STTING are correct.
    Thank U & Best Regards

    merci de me venir en aide.

    Hello,
    What do you mean by "change the resolution" ?
    Do you know any application that allows you to change the resolution ?
    Don't you meen, adapt the size of the Forms screen to the current resolution ?
    if yes, you can use the following code:
    Declare
      LN$width pls_integer ;
      LN$height pls_integer ;
    Begin
      LN$width := Get_Application_Property( DISPLAY_WIDTH ) ;

  • Printing Arabic text in Oracle Application(R12i) using XML Publisher.

    Hi,
    I am using Oracle Application R12i version with Oracle database as 10g, base language as English and installed language as Arabic.
    I am trying to print the data which is there in English/Arabic in Oracle Application(using XML Publisher).
    I've created a rdf using Report Builder 10g and registered as concurrent program (XML as Output format). There after i executed the concurrent program and generated the XML file.
    Based on the XML file, i created a rtf file using XML Desktop(in Ms word) and register the same rtf file in XML Publisher Administrator for creating the XML definition and Template and Output as PDF.
    After creating a XML template, when i executed the Concurrent program, english text is shown in english but arabic text is shown some ascii characters like Question Mark(up side down).
    Could anyone please let us know the steps for doing the same or plz let us know are we missing any step.
    Quiet urgent.

  • License information for oracle and HTMLDB

    Anybody knows which metalink document or where I can found information about getting license for Oracle Database 10g , oracle10gAS Forms&Report server and HTMLDB 2.0 to deploye on the web..?

    Hello,
    HTML DB v2.0 (Oracle Application Express, by its new name) does not need separate licensing, as it is part of the database license. For all the rest of the items in your post, you can get a "first impression" on the Oracle on-line store, but the best, I believe, is to contact a local Oracle sales person. They can give you the best information with current prices.

  • XML storage and retrieval in/out of 8i

    Please take into consideration my lack of exerience in XML and
    Oracle8i when you read this question....
    Our project is considering using Oracle8i to store, query &
    retrieve XML documents. Having read several Oracle web sites on
    XML, I'm left with the impression that the Oracle iFS is at the
    conerstone of Oracle's XML implementation. The idea of a
    drag-n-drop approach to place XML data files into the database is
    interesting, but I suspect our project needs a more "programatic"
    (i.e. background/automatic) approach to conveniently storing and
    retrieving XML data. I've read only "hints" that O8i will support
    this. My question: where can I find out more about what Oracle8i
    has to offer the developer in this area?
    Thanks

  • System Passwords

    Hi,
    I created an oracle 10g server on a windows server2003 platform.
    I installed 10gDB R2 on the server and everything went great, perfect install - i could get into the EM page on port http:myserver:1158/em and create users etc via EM
    I then installed Application server and i was able to log into the portal section no problem via the web browser but when i tried to install BI i seem to have created a duplicate listener or duplicate databae instance.
    I now have two web pages were i can access my EM Console on port 1158 and port 5500
    log into http://myserver:5500 shows the name orcl
    log into http://myserver:1158 shows the name orcl1
    log into http://myserver:5500 shows the name orcl
    i am getting this message on orcl for my listener - The listener is down: listener "LISTENER" is not running using "C:\OraHome_2\network\admin/listener.ora" file..
    However i can create users etc in the administraion section
    http://myserver:1158 shows the name orcl1
    I get the following error
    Database instance - Down
    Host myserver
    Port 1521

    Can anyone explain a quick fix or do i need a complete re-install?
    This is a new test system but would rather iron out my issues than re-install
    Another things - Can anyone explain to me the account to backup the server i was trying to use the following
    username - sys
    password - Password1
    but i keep getting a invalid username and password. I was under the impression that in Oracle the SYS account could do anyting
    Any replies greatly appreciated

    SYS password. You should check if the credentials provided for the sys user are correct. When you try to test the sys password don't do it directly on the console, try to use a sqlplus session using the @tnsentry, otherwise, you'll be authenticated by the OS and it won't matter whatever password you type you'll be loged in.
    SYSDBA Role. At the enterprise manager you should not only define the preferred credential for the sys user (sysdba role), but also for the os username, this user must belong to the ORA_DBA privileged group and have the grant 'connect as batch'. Otherwise you won't be able to launch any os related task from the EM console, such as backup, recover, export, sqlldr.
    Missconfigured instance name. Verify instance name, and check the instance name for you rdbms oracle home. If you created another database when you installed your second oracle home, then most probably they are conflicting. Oracle ports are assigned just once, in case you install a second EM for another instance a different port number will be assigned.
    Troubleshooting. In case you have made sure your environment is properly configured, and if problem persists, you don't have to reinstall, you only need to reconfigure your EM console:
    set oracle_sid=YourInstanceName
    emctl stop dbconsole
    emca -deconfig dbcontrol db
    emca -repos recreate
    emca -config dbcontrol db

    Kernel Parameters?
    From: Bolen Coogler (guest)
    Email: [email protected]
    Date: Mon Oct 26 16:00 CST 1998
    The Oracle install instructions mention setting various kernel
    parameters, such as:
    SHMMAX 4294967296 (0x100000000)
    SHMMIN 1
    SHMMNI 100
    SHMSEG 10
    SEMMNS 200
    SEMMNI 70
    SEMMSL
    While setting these parameters is VERY important in HP/UX or
    Solaris, I haven't the slightest idea if this is really applies
    to Linux. Does anyone know if tweaking these and other kernel
    parameters matters in Linux? If so, where do you make these kind
    of changes? (/usr/src/linux/include/linux/<something>.h ?)
    My initial impression is the Oracle on Linux documentation is
    converted Solaris boilerplate (i.e. %s/Solaris/Linux/g).

  • Simple use of variables in query

    Hi,
    i've just started using PL/SQL and as a long time user of TSQL the syntax is a bit confusing for me. I'm trying to test a simple query - using a variable to select some rows from a table. Lest assume that we have a table with data from different days and we want to view data from specific day.
    I could use:
    SELECT * FROM TABLE
    where TRADE_DATE = '2010-10-23'
    but what i would like to do is to pass the date value as a variable, in TSQL i'd just write:
    declare @trade_date datetime
    set @trade_date = '2010-10-23'
    SELECT * FROM TABLE
    where TRADE_DATE = @trade_date
    Could someone help me and write the last query using PL/SQL syntax?
    Also - it there some kind of a tutorial for people like me? comparison of simple queries written in both languages? tried to google it but didn't have luck.

    There are a couple of differences besides variable syntax. The variable would look like this in PL/SQL:
    declare
        v_trade_date date := DATE '2010-10-23';
    begin
        select * into ?????  -- see below
        from   table
        where  trade_date = v_trade_date;
    end;However the next difference is that PL/SQL does not implicitly return result sets to the client application, so you either have to select <b>into</b> a PL/SQL variable, or process the values in a loop, or explicitly return a ref cursor (or just do the processing in SQL statements within the procedure, without returning anything). I don't know much about T-SQL but I have the impression that in Oracle there is a stronger distinction between SQL (the interpreted query language) and PL/SQL (the compiled programming language) than the equivalents in SQL Server. Saubhik's example above is not PL/SQL (which you asked about) but plain SQL.
    Using the example of SQL*Plus, you might use a ref cursor like this:
    var r refcursor;
    declare
        v_trade_date date := DATE '2010-10-23';
    begin
        open :r for
        select *
        from   test_table
        where  trade_date = v_trade_date;
    end;
    print :ror
    var r refcursor;
    create or replace procedure p (p_out_results out sys_refcursor)
    as
        v_trade_date date := DATE '2010-10-23';
    begin
        open p_out_results for
        select *
        from   test_table
        where  trade_date = v_trade_date;
    end p;
    set autoprint on
    exec p(:r)Edited by: William Robertson on Oct 24, 2010 5:31 PM

    Hi, this is an attempt to install Ora 10g Release 1 on an out-of-the-box Red Hat Enterprise 3 system on an Opteron 64-bit processor. 10gR2 is not available for the x86-64 platform yet.
    I have been through the prerequisites, set the system parameters, oracle account and environment etc.
    And I get

    From reading some other threads I suspected a Java problem; and I recall earllier Oracle installs on earlier Red Hats needed to have a 3rd party JDK installed.
    There's nothing I can find in the Oracle 10g docs about Java prerequisites. I was under the impression that the Oracle installation media included their own Java. Can anybody tell me what I am missing?
    Thanks,

    o installed jdk 117_v1a-2 from rpmfind.net, and put /usr/local/jdk117_v1a/bin/ at the front of $PATH but that's not correct:
