Pb of Styles in Pages

Here is my problem (sorry for my english, I'm french
iPAD 2
G5 PPC dal 2,5 Ghz 10.4.11
I create a document with "pages" on the Mac. In this document I create styles (I modify the existing styles or create other)
Then I transfer the document on the iPad. When I open the document on the iPad, my new styles emerge, but also the originals sytles I have deleted before on the MAC. I can not erase these originals styles on the iPAD.
And it is difficult to work with all these styles. When I want to selecte -on "Pages" iPad- one of the styles that I created, I have to scroll 15-20 styles before I get on mine.
Thank you
Aristote

  • How do you select all paragraphs using the same style in Pages 5.2?

    I'm trying to find how to select all paragraphs using the same style in Pages 5.2 without any success.  I writing a book and I need to able to adjust all my paragraph styles globally.  I see how upgrade my paragraph style when I do something new, but not how to revert back to the orginal template.
    For example, in my custom template for my book I have 12 font for a review questions paragraph style.  I changed the font size for all this paragraph style to 18 font.  Now I want to change it back to size 12 font.  But I have this paragraph style at the top and bottom of my document.  How to I select all of my review questions style so I can make the font change to all at the same time?
    I just upgrade to Pages 5.2 from Pages '09.
    Thanks for the help,
    Rob

  • Character styles in Pages 5

    Can't find Character styles in Pages 5. After a couple of hours of work I am about ready to jump back to Microsoft Word, which annoys me beyond belief. At least Pages 09/11 had Character styles, AND hot keys for styles (even if they were limited to F-keys).
    I use several different styles constantly through my documents, including character styles, and Pages 5 is letting me down BIG time.
    OK, it's cool to have object styles - I can dig that.
    BUT WHY ELIMINATE CHARACTER STYLES?
    Sorry for shouting.
    What a pity. Maybe the iWork software engineers don't actually work for Apple . . . yeah, that could be it. Or they don't actually USE the products they design.
    I encourage everyone to make liberal use of Apple's feedback page, http://www.apple.com/feedback/

    I posted this in another thread before I discovered this one:
    I just upgraded to Pages 5.
    I opened a document that I'd been working on in the previous version of Pages. It has several styles, incuding a bulleted list style called "main bullet".
    I attempted to apply that style to a section of text, and while it did indent the text properly, it did not add bullets. (Also, in the Style panel a bullet does not appear next to the "main bullet" style as it does in Pages 4. This was my first clue that something was wrong.)
    So I went back in the text to a bulleted list that uses the "main bullet" style. I selected the text, then went to the Style panel and chose "main bullet" > update style. This did not seem to help. The "main bullet" style still has no bullet next to it in the Style panel, and when I tried again to apply it to some text, the bullet doesn't appear.
    I decided to try a different style, in this case "body". I went to a section that has the "main bullet" style, selected it, and applied "body". The indentation changed, but it did not remove the bullet as it was supposed to.
    Is this a bug, or do styles work differently in Pages 5?
    It appears that styles do not include formatting like bullets, which, if true, is a huge problem.
    I was also upset to learn that once I've opened a document in Pages 5, I can no longer open it in Pages 4. So I'm essentially stuck with Pages 5 whether I like it or not.
    Is anyone else noticing this?

  • After updating numbers and pages I can no longer copy multiple cells from numbers and paste and match style to pages.

    After updating numbers and pages I can no longer copy multiple cells from numbers and paste and match style to pages.  I used to be able to select multipule cells in a row (such as company name, address, etc.) then paste and match style on to a pages letter. I found the paste and match style option in the edit menu, however it will only work one cell at a time. Before the update is was working great.

    For diagnosing purpose thy the procedure in a new user account and see if it works there. You create a new user account in the System Preferences > Accounts. If it works in the new account it is probably a corrupt plist file that needs to be deleted.

    Then don't do it. Use Paste and Match style in the Edit Menu. You don't need to go by other applications which Niel suggested.
    It's not always the best soluce.
    Example:
    copy group of 3*3 cells from a Numbers table
    Paste in Pages gives a table with every style attributes.
    Paste and Match Style gives nine paragraphs of raw text, one by cell, exactly what we get when pasting in a TextEdit Rtf window and converting it to Text.
    Running my good old huge script :
    --{code}
    set the clipboard to the clipboard as text
    --{code}
    then Paste, gives three paragraphs with cell's contents separated by TAB characters exactly as what we get when pasting in a TextEdit Text window.

    To be the AW6 successor, iWork MUST integrate a TRUE DB, not a list organizer !

  • How do I create a new paragraph Style in Pages for iPad?

    I opened an RTF document in iOS 6 Pages for iPad. How do I create new paragraph Syles?

    Style is a function of the template applied to the document (and/or the limited number built in to Pages). You can mofify the text or apply one of the built in styles, but I do not beleive within Pages in iOS you can create a new style.

  • Find/replace styles in Pages 5

    In Pages '09, one can find a style, under the "Advanced" menu in the find/replace pop-up.  I use this to prepare talks, writing my own comments in a different style than what I'll print and hand out.  Thus, I find the style and replace it (with nothing), and be left with simply the text for the handout.  Is there a way to use find/replace in Pages 5 to search and find a particular style?  I can't find it.  Thank you!

    That is an extremely useful feature. I just was using that on a document to hand last night, searching on an expression and applying a style to it, Saved me hours of work. Not something Apple seems to get these days.
    Nobody apparently is supposed to work on Macs anymore, just fiddle.
    Viking is being modest, the count is over 110 known missing features and countless bugs or things that simply don't work as they are supposed to.
    Thankfully there is still Pages '09! For now. Which should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.

  • Managing Styles in Pages 5

    Hi,
    two questions regarding paragraph style management:
    1. Is it possible to combine numbering/bullets (list styles) with paragraph styles? Imo numbering should naturally be a styling element of a paragraph just like font size, weight etc...
    2. For a work-around to the above, is there a way to "select all paragraph X" text in a document? Previously it was possible to select for example all "Header 1" styled text through the styles menu and apply changes.
    I need to do some changes in a larger document and add numbering to all headline styles.
    Thanks for any help!

    1. No. Use Pages '09
    2. No. Use Pages '09

  • How to set custom shortcuts for Styles in Pages 5.1?

    I just updated Pages to version 5.1. It said, that it will bring back the feature where you can use different shortcuts for specific styles. How can you do that? Anyone figured it out yet?
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Peter thank you very much! I owe you one
    It was way easier back than. I was so mad that the just put it back in this recent version. It drove me crazy.
    Thanks,

  • Keyboard shortcuts for applying styles in Pages 5.0

    In Pages '09, you could set a function key as a keyboard shortcut to apply either paragraph or character styles. But I don't see this in Pages 5.0. Have they taken it away or is there another way to do this?
    This feature was key for me—it saved me a lot of mouse clicks and drags and made formatting text very easy and consistent. I'll miss it if it's gone, and may even have to keep using the old version of Pages for this reason.

    Gone along with 90 other features.
    Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder. Use that and review/rate Pages 5 in the App Store and delete or archive it to prevent it from opening .pages files accidentally.

  • Formatting Word document with APA style in Pages

    I have been asked to format a word document into APA style; however, I use Pages and do not have Microsoft Word. Can I take the document, format it in Pages and then save it again as a Word document? Will everything transfer correctly? Or am I asking for a major headache?

  • Copy and paste style in pages

    I select one paragraph, tap on Copy Style, it seems to work.
    I go laterr in the document, select another paragraph, and look for a Paste Style command. Frequently, perhaps usually, it is there and works. Other times, for no discernible reason, it simply does not and will not. All I can do is Copy Style for that new paragraph, and nothing seems to work to enable the paste style function.
    Does anyone have any idea of why this should be and perhaps some approach to use when this happens? TIA.

    This happens to me all the time as well!
    I work in Pages daily (as a professional writer no less) and virtually everytime Copy and Paste Style fails completely.
    It simply ignores the request, or sometimes it changes only the font but not the color.  Still other times it change steh font to anotehr type entirely!
    It's beyond frustrating.
    I notice also that whether or not you copy from a paragraph mark it sometimes affects it.
    There is no consitency that I can find.
    I will note I am using the latest Pages for the latest Lion, but my documents were imported from MS Word 2004.

  • Footnotes using Turabian style in Pages

    I'm writing a dissertation which the school requires to be in Turabian (Chicago) style. Footnotes in pages use superscript and Turabian requires plain numerals at the start of the note. If I convert the superscript numeral to a regular numeral, Pages doesn't recognize the footnote as such. Has anyone figured this out? Thanks.

  • Mattext - a simple console matrix-style text pager

    Hi,
    I wrote a simple text pager, it shows text in console. But it does it in matrix-style, columns of random symbols trickles down the screen, leaving text after them.
    Some screenshots:

    http://dhurum.github.io/mattext/screenshot2.jpg
    http://dhurum.github.io/mattext/screenshot3.jpg
    At this moment it can:
    - read text from [multiple] files or stdin;
    - run in interactive  mode (default)
    - run in non-interactive mode, autoscroll through text;
    - show only one page of text, then quit;
    - run infinitely, reading files over and over again, until 'q' is pressed;
    - colorize output;
    - centrate text vertically and horizontally (each string separately or using longest string, this is useful for ascii art)
    - show Japanese half-width kana along with English letters and digits;
    - block until specified number of lines is read (it responds to commands while it is blocked), is stdin is used;
    - quit (press 'q' or 'Q' or ctrl + D);
    - show next text page(press any other key);
    You can find sources on github, https://github.com/dhurum/mattext/

    I have to install this on my work PC and start it running when people come to me with a problem. They'll think I'm doing something incredible complex and amazing, when all I'm actually doing is sshing into their machine and looking at their logs/clearing out their stockpile of ancient kernels.
    "Hmm, yes, I see what the problem is: your data containment receptacles have become saturated with outdated conglomerations of modules and header files. I'm currently removing the excess of binary data, so your system will be fully operational again by the time you get back to your desk. Would you like a skittle?"

  • Pasting HTML styles into Pages

    Is there any way to get Pages to recognize basic HTML formatting styles?
    I'd like something with an h1 tag to map to Header 1 in my paragraph styles.
    Any ideas/workarounds?

    GUI scripting ones able to paste in a document or instructions dedicated to Pages which you will learn studying the Pages 's Applescript dictionary.
    The 'Open Dictionary' menu item of the Script Editor is the entry point for this dictionary.

    Some of the embedded scripts are setting style attributs to pieces of text.
    I think that the easier track is to work with two documents.
    enter a loop like that:
    repeat while there is text to import
    insert a chunk of text in document 1
    apply the required attributs
    select all
    cut
    paste at the end of document 2
    end repeat
