PB Ti Upgrade to 1.2 GHz.

As I have read, Sonnet Technologies have made a new upgrade for TiBook motherboard.
It upgrades 550MHz and 667MHz (vga) to 1.2GHz!!!!!!!
Which I think is amaizing!!!
But has Anyone used it???
Or has it came out in the Uk??

That is cool. I have not heard of anything like that, but if Sonnet makes it, it's probably a good product. I upgraded an old PB 1400c a few years ago from a 166MHz PowerPC to a 400MHz G3. The speed boost was amazing. I still use it from time to time to check emails and do some light surfing. The only problem with upgrading older Macs, though, is that sometimes you can get a faster processor but none of the newer technologies. My 1400 is fast, but lacks USB, Firewire, a CD Burner, and it has a low RAM cap of only 64MB. An old TiBook, upgraded, should be more useful.

Can I easily upgrade my 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo to the new Quad intel i7 processor? any compatibility issues?

Not only can it not be done easily... it can't be done at all.  For starters, the processor is soldered to the logic board and it is not replaceable.  However, even if the processor were removable, the new quad core i7 processor is not compatible with the chipset used in your current system.  The new processors use an entirely new chipset.  The new processors also have an integrated GPU on the processor.  Your current chipset wouldn't have any idea how to deal with that.  Basically... apart from the fact that you just can't remove the processor, there are a significant number of hardware incompatibilites between the new processors and the logic board in your current machine.

  • Adobe CS3 Upgrade on 2.4 GHz MacBook Pro

I am planning to purchase the new generation MacBook Pro in about a month.
My question is about Adobe CS3. I currently use CS2 on an older G4 PowerBook because I could not deal with the performance dip on the older MacBook Pro (1.83 GHz with 512MB RAM). So I have a licensed copy of CS2 for PPC. If I buy the Upgrade Version of CS3 at a much reduced price, will the transition to Universal work on a MacBook Pro? No more Rosetta? Performance problems solved?
I realize Rosetta probably struggled with my previous MacBook's speed and lack of RAM. But I don't want to go through that hair-pulling again. I don't get into that advanced PhotoShop, etc. of CS3 but I'm willing to upgrade just to have it Universal and be more reliable. And, of course, I'd like to save the $800 on having to buy the Full Version of the software.
    Thanks everyone for your feedback.
By the way, I had the same performance issue with MS Office for Mac. Almost 30 seconds to open Word! Anyone know if this becomes a non-issue with newer Macbook Pros??
    1.8 PowerPC G5 3GB DDR SDRAM Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Your problem your your previous MBP was simply RAM. 512MB when trying to use CS2 products is simply insanity. If you opt for a new MBP with the standard 2GB, better still with an upgrade to 4GB, then CS3 will perform extremely well. RAM us hugely important and one of the biggest bottlenecks in today's hardware and software requirements.

  • Unable to Upgrade Original 1.8 Ghz G5 to Leopard

I recently replaced my G5 1.8 Ghz (2003, w/8x RAM Slots) and would like to sell the G5 to family member--cheaply. However, I have tried to upgrade the internal hard disk--not the original drive, which failed earlier--from 10.2.8 (came with G5) to Leopard. On two OS X disks (10.5 & 10.5.4), I get to 99% through the install when an error message pops up about "damaged media" or "problem with Epson print driver," and either "OS X upgrade cannot be installed on this disk" or "try again." I bought & installed another hard drive for it, thinking it might be the drive, and I even replaced the Combo Drive with an OWC DVD Burner--which the Mac recognizes I bought before getting the iMac. I have reset PRAM, to no avail. I am not overly technical, but the fact that the problem has happened with two OS disks, two optical drives, and two hard drives (one Seagate/one WD) tells me that I am missing something WRT the computer itself. The computer's time is accurate, so the battery seems out as an issue. Any suggestions? Many thanks, in advance.

One more interesting point: I ran the G5 from an OWC Mercury external drive, and it ran just fine with no anomolies.

  • Upgrading 17" 2.0 ghz Intel iMac

I have a 17" iMac that I want to upgrade the memory in. I have some pulls from a 24" 2.8 ghz iMac that were not used much before the were removed. The 17" uses PC2-5300 memory. The pulls are PC2-6400 memory. What is risk involved in using this (PC2-6400) in an older 17" iMac?

If it won't boot with both 800 modules installed in it, try one 667 and one 800...

  • What to upgrade on dual 1 Ghz powerpc G4 to run Final Cut studio 2?

I have been using Final Cut Pro HD (4.5) on my Dual 1 gig G4 (1g sdram) for a few years. I have just purchased Final Cut Studio 2 and it needs at least one 1.25 ghz processor to run. Does anyone have any recommendations on what processor I should upgrade to? What else should I upgrade too make the system work well? I don't have the $2600 to buy a new mac, but would like to make the most of the upgrade.
    Thanks.

    Hi-
What model G4 do you have- Quicksilver or MDD? It makes a difference with processor upgrade recommendations.
    MDD processor upgrades
    Quicksilver processor upgrades
I would recommend the Newertech processors (for Quicksilver). They are solid upgrades, and carry a three year warranty. Sticking with a dual processor is also recommended.
For graphics, at a bare minimum, you will need the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Mac. You would do even better to find a flashed (converted to Mac compatibility) Geforce 7800GS.
You will also need to max out your RAM, and depending on your current drive, a larger hard drive may also be necessary.
So, you really need $600-$900 worth of upgrades to really use the new software.

  • Can the intel core 2 duo processor be changed and upgraded to 2.5 ghz

can the processing chips be upgraded on the imac 1.7ghz model??

You can't upgrade processors or video cards on Mac's (MacPro if you can find one that is)
Only the RAM and in some machines the hard drive, that's it.

  • Is it feasible/cost effective to upgrade my G5, 2 GHz Dual PowerPC processors,  2 GB DDR SDRAM to an Intel system? There are no updates for PowerPC systems any longer.

Is it feasible/cost effective to upgrade my current MAC G5, dual 2GHz powerPC, 2GB DDR SDRAM, running OS 10.4.1.1 to an Intel board & processor(s)?  Power PC G5 no longer has updates available.  Things such as the newest version of Flash require an intel system.
Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.

Well you can upgrade your 10.4.11 G5 to 10.5.8.  But you lose Classic, and don't gain any Boot Camp capability.    Only Intel Macs have Boot Camp, and still no Classic.  You also have be mindful, if you buy too new, you won't have Rosetta capability which allows PowerPC applications to run on Intel Macs that were designed for Mac OS X.   Macs that ship with 10.7 or newer have no PowerPC support for applications or drivers.  See this user tip:  https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2295

  • Upgrade from 867 Mhz to 1.33 Ghz?

Hi, is it possible to upgrade from 867 Mhz to 1.33 (or better) Ghz?
I have a Powerbook G4 I bought in June 2003. I am still running on 256MB RAM and 40G. The battery doesn't really work anymore. I'm guessing I need a new battery, more memory, etc.
I realized I need to upgrade to 1.33 Ghz because iTunes 7.0.2 will no longer play video, and apparently I need at least 1 Ghz to play video.
Should I attempt these upgrades, or should I try to trade in my Powerbook and get a newer model?
    Thanks so much,
    Lisa.

I wonder whether it would really be worth the effort. As someone else has said, the logic boards from the later versions are not the same and it is unlikely you would be able to successfully upgrade.
Having said that you might want to consider upgrading the memory and the hard drive. I have the same model as you and have 1.12GB of RAM. I don't have any problems playing video from iTunes (although the odd video will sometimes stutter). In addition there isn't really anything that important (to me) I can't run. Programs like Garageband can put a bit of a strain on the system and iDVD encoding/burning is an overnight job for a full DVD but overall this is still one very useable system. Increasing you hard disk space can only be a good thing for your system too! One benefit of hanging on is that you will save a bit of money which you can put towards a new one!
The processor upgrade mentioned here sounds interesting but I have never heard of it before so am not in the position to offer any advice on it. I am a little surprised about the battery. I use my Powerbook everyday, often using the battery and have done since I got it in Feb 2003. I still get a couple of hours out of it...

  • Cannot install on g4 upgraded from 400Mhz to 1.2 Ghz processor

I'm attempting to install Leopard without success. I've have a g4 (originally 400Mhz but upgraded to 1.2 Ghz) Upon attempting to install it just plainly states (cannot install 10.5) I am currently running 10.3.9 and have 1.7MB ram
Any suggestions? PLEASE HELP! I'm dying to install it
    Thanks!!!

After taking it to the shop and paying $81.00 to find out that there is nothing wrong with it, it stopped smelling hot after a month or so. Still working fine. Go figure.

  • Not able to open Logic8 sessions after upgrade from 10.5.8 to 10.6.8

    Hello,
I recently upgraded my 2x2.93 GHz Quad-Core system from 10.5.8 to 10.6.8, and now i'm not able to open certain logic 8 sessions. Most of my sessions open fine, but theres a bunch that I'm getting memory errors for, saying things like "not enough memory" or "audio units failed to load" or the session will load with just a blank screen.
Since I'm running in 32 bit, and I know these particular sessions were (in 10.5.8) using around 2.21 gigs of real mem its pretty clear that i'm pushing the limits of my computer.  However it would stand to reason that if i could open the session in leopard, I should be able to open the session in snow leopard.
Strangely enough, I have a mobile rig (2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 macbook pro running on 10.6.8) that will open up these "troubling" sessions just fine.  The only thing i can think of thats different is the lap top was a clean OS install while the 8 core was an archive install.
Also strangely enough, I'm able to load sessions larger than 2.21 on my 10.6 8 core as long as its not from the "troubled" bunch of sessions.  Which leads me to believe it could possibly be a specific instrument or plug-in or combination that is causing these crashes.  Not quite sure how to test for that.  Also since the sessions load on the laptop, not sure why it would be an issue on my mac pro.
If i go into the "troubling" sessions by not lunching the "core audio" driver, and delete some instruments i'm not using my sessions will open just fine on my mac pro.  While this is a temporary work around, its not work for me in the long run.
Also, none my virtual memory servers have changed since my update so I don't think thats the problem.
If anyone has any idea they could through my way I would greatly appreciate it.  I'm definitely stumped on this one.

    Syed,
This could be the issue. Please follow the steps in the following thread to change the status of this product from shared to installed and check then.

  • Can't drag and drop files onto Applications in Dock since upgrading to 10.6

Ever since my wife upgraded her iMac (2 GHz, 2 gigs) to 10.6, she can no longer drag and drop files onto certain applications in her dock to open the file. She has to go into the application and go to "open file" or whatever.
For example, if she has a Word doc on her desktop, she cannot drag it onto the Word icon in her dock.
    Any advice?

You have many issues with your and your wife's machine(s). Everything you've posted works here. Reinstall Snow Leopard, repair permissions, and see if that fixes things.

  • Can't login after 10.5.6 upgrade

Yesterday I upgraded my iMac 2 GHz to OS 10.5.6. It worked fine in the beginning, but today the Mac started to behave slow and strange (couldn't click on anything). I had to force quit. But then I couldn't login again. When the login window appears, I can't choose user or enter my password. If I force quit, the startup process comes to the same place, but not any further.

  • Will the new Retina MacBook Pro outperform a standard MBP with upgrades?

I'm after a new MacBook Pro 13" but don't mind too much about a retina display (music production and sound design is my thing) - I just want it to be as fast as I can afford. I've been comparing the new Retina models with a standard MBP upgraded to the same price area as the Retinas.
Here's the specs I'm interested in:
    MBP Retina
Processor: 2.4 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 (Turbo Boost up to 2.9 GHz) with 3MB shared L3 Cache
    RAM: 8GB
    Storage: 256GB PCI-e-based flash storage
    MBP Non-retina (with some upgrades)
Processor: 2.9 GHz dual-core Intel Core i7 (Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
    RAM: 8GB
Storage: 1TB Serial ATA Hard Drive @ 5400 rpm.
Which will peform best? Does the flash storage makes the retina faster while the hard drive on the standard MBP negate the upgrades?

    Yes, yes and yes.
"Also am I correct in thinking that my 2008 early Mac Pro has more processing power than the new macbook I am looking at?"
    You MUST be joking! LOL!
There will be NO COMPARISON as far as speed, processing power, etc.
You are looking at about a 40% performance boost on the CPU, alone, never mind the boost in RAM.
Coupled with the speed of the drives in the MBPro, you will also notice that your insanely complicated projects that typically take a few minutes to load, will actually load in mere seconds.
    GO FOR IT!

  • I'M MAD! Majority of games/apps require 2 GHz Intel Core Duo...D:

So to start off, I have a Mac OS X 10.6.8
Processor 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo
             Memory     2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    What I want:
To be able to play games/apps
    "Why can't you?"
Because they require 2 GHz Intel Core Duo
    So my question is:
IS THERE A WAY I CAN UPGRADE TO A 2 GHz INTEL CORE DUO???
...it makes me frustrated that I have the required OS version yet I still can't play games or use simple apps because of my stupid processor...
What I've already tried (so don't suggest this):
Wine (so that I can open windows required games)
    Updating all my software
    Getting rid of unwanted files
    Downloading X11 (to run Wine)
Watched tons of tutorials on downloading desired games/apps correctly
EVEN BUYING A NEW COMPUTER (this one)
Repeating the above tactics on my new computer
What. must. I. Do. Please tell me !!

I can't even download most apps in the App Store that are specifically in the 10.6.8 category .-.
