PB wont wake up. Sleep light in the front is constantly on

Hey guys, i'm having a big problem with my PB 17. It wont wake up at all from what I think is sleep. When I open the lid, or when I push the power button or even hold down the power button, the flashing blue/whiteish light stays on and never goes away. Even when I close the lid or disconnect the battery from the PB, the light still stays on. The Hard drive is off, the screen is off, its not making any noise at all. Just a nice little light on the front. Can't get anything to go.
Any one have any ideas?
Thanks

Reset the PMU: it didn't work.
Removed the list of PMU as suggested by another discussion in the form: it didn't work.
It was just getting worse and worse that the computer fell asleep every 5 seconds.
I took it to the Apple Store. The guy at the Genius Bar immediately said that it's due to the top case, which was exactly the same as what I found out from Google and Apple Discussions. Two days later I received the call regarding that the computer is ready to be collected. The topcase has been replaced. The computer has been working fine so far.

I'd love to repair it but not if it'll cost 500 bucks or more to replace the logicboard.
    I appreciate any help

    Lao Bo,
yes, you can locate and copy a file from your HD to a USB key using UNIX commands. If you know the exact name of the file which you’re trying to locate, try this:
    find / -iname filename -print
This command will search your entire internal disk for the particular filename. If you know that it’s within a particular user account, then you can save search time with this variation:
    find /Users/username -iname filename -print
Either variation of this command will print all files found which have the given filename. Presuming that you’re able to identify the correct file, you can copy it to a USB key using the command
    cp -p filename_returned_by_find /Volumes/USB_volume
If you’re not sure which volume name your USB key has, this command will show you what the possibilities are:
    ls /Volumes
Please let me know if you have any trouble with these commands.

  • Wont boot, flashing sleep light

    MacBook Pro 13"
    Mid-2010 A1278
    Serial: WQ********ATM
When Power Button pressed, it is completely unresponcive except for the sleep light on the front flashes
I have noticed, If it is off the charger and you press power button, it will flash on then off just once.
However, if it is on the charger and you press power button it will flash on and off over and over, even if you then remove charger
Have searched heaps of Articles, they tend to point towards either Battery or RAM....
Battery is fully charged, battery indicator on the side shows its full when pressed.
RAM is fully populated, have removed one stick, tested, reinstalled then removed the other stick, tested, and then used RAM from a known working MBP similar model, all no good.
Have had plenty of experience with these A1278s, but never come across this before!
Thanks in Advance for any help!!

  • Macbook Pro wont wake from sleep

My '08 MacBk Pro wont wake from sleep. This has happened several times since I installed Lion. In the past I have simply clicked several times on the trackpad until it woke, but on several occasions it actually shut down after entering sleep mode, (It went to black screen, the little pulsing sleep light was dark and I got no responce to clicks on trackpad or keyboard). When this happens I can usually re-start the Mac with a hard re-boot to resolve the issue. This time however, I can't get the computer to turn on. I've tried pressing the power button once, and all that happens is that the sleep light blinks once along with a the normal whiring sound you hear when the computer is ramping up, but this lasts only a second and then it goes back to black screen/dead Mac. I also tried holding down the power button as I would for a hard reset at which point I get several blinks from the pulsing sleep light and then nothing. I also tried unplugging the cable, removing the battery and pressing the power button for 5 seconds, then reconnecting battery and cable and pressing the power button, (I got these steps from an article posted here on the furums). BTW, I have disconnected all external drives, etc. before trying any of these steps. Please let me know if there's something else I might try to revive my Mac.

Follow up: I took the MacBook Pro for repair and the tech found that the logic board was damaged - probably due to so many hard resets I had to perform to get the machine to load when starting it up after shutdown or restart. I replaced the logic board, (Very expensive) and its been running fine for 3 days. However, the freezing problem has just started again and I'm worried that having to perform a hard reset to get the macbook to load will cause more damage.
The problem that's occuring is as follows: When I start the computer up after shutdown, or sometimes after restart, the desktop fails to load and the spinning color wheel appears. I can see the dock and the main upper toolbar but my desktop is blank and my external hard drives do not load. I can't make any selections with the cursor because of the eternally spinning color wheel, so my only option is to perform a hard reset by depressing the power button until the unit shuts down. When I start it up again the system loads correctly. I have tried ejecting my external drives before shutting down, but this doesn't make a difference. This problem started when I installed Lion OS and got continually worse until the computer finally shut down for good and I had to replace the logic board. Now it's starting to happen again.
Has anyone else experienced this problem running Lion on a MacBook Pro early '08? If so, please help me find a solution for the freezes.

    Hello all,
I have a 14.88G iPod Nano that I currently use as my primary watch. A week or so ago I started to experience a blank white screen when I press the "sleep/wake" button instead of the watch face (I have it set to wake from sleep to display the clock). When I hard reset it, it will come back fine and the screen will respond and work as normal, as soon as I manually put it to sleep by pressing the "sleep/wake" button and then try to wake it the same thing happens and I have a blank white screen that doesn't respond to touch gestures or anything.
What I have tried so far to no avail:
Numerous hard restarts (holding the "sleep/wake" button with the volume - button).
Tried this: iPod nano (6th generation): Hardware troubleshooting
Changed the watch face to display.
Recharged the device overnight (without full discharge).
Since none of this works I'm out of ideas. Eventhough I have a 6G Nano it should no longer be under warranty since I was sent it as a replacement for a different (older) product.
Any ideas? Is this a known problem? Thanks in advance for any insight any of you could provide. Also, what time is it??
    Regards,

    Hey,
I have the exact same problem as you have described. I also used my ipod as a watch but starting from today, whenever I unlock it the screen turns white until a reset is done. Even a factory reset through itunes didn't fix it.
    Have you found any solution?
    Bah, this is annoying.

I cannot get the new mac mini to wake from sleep and trigger the displays - this is the second mac mini I have had and both have had the same issues. It worked before on my macbook extremely well...
Using 2 displays, connected via HDMI and thunderbolt
Been on to support a number of times now - is anyone experiencing the same issues?

    BUMP.
I actually showed this to Apple geniuses when I took my computer to the apple store, and it's still here. In console it says:
    kernel[0]: Previous Shutdown Cause: -128
I don't know if that's related or not, but maybe helps?

  • HT1551 The light on the front of the base is flashing rapidly but I cannot get the system to come on. Book says it is having problems but it does not say what type of problems or how to fix it. Any suggestions?

The light on the front of my apple tv is flashing rapidly and it  won't send a signal to the TV.  The book says it is having trouble but does not say what it is or how to fix it.  My daughter was watching it last night and I think she turned the tv off without putting it to sleep.  Any suggestions?

Sorry the news here is not good.  If the light just stays flashing then it is not able to succesfully startup the most basic part of the software.  The only option at this point is to find a USB cable that will let you plug ATV into a computer with iTunes and do a full restore of the system firmware.

  • What do the lights on the front indicate

I have read and searched and can't find the answer to this. I have 5 different lights on the front of the laptop, 3 are white and don't blink, one was amber and didn't blink but it now white and does blink, the 5th is a solid amber.
For no good reason, after the computer updated yesterday we lost our internet connection and it appeared the network card as well. This morning when I turned it on again, the computer logged on to the network no problem.  I don't understand this and wonder if the lights are supposed to tell me something that I don't know.
    I have a Satellite L755-S5214

The Quick Tour Guide that came with your machine explains (with pictures) what all those lights (called System Indicator Lights) are for and different places in your User Guide indicates how they may vary under certain circumstances.
    Starting from the left:
!.  AC Power light On when power plugged in.
    2. Computer On/Off light. Normally white when on but will blink orange if computer is in sleep mode.
    3.  Battery Light.  White when fully charged, User's Guide explains when not fully charged. See pages 47 and 48 of
         the User's Guide.
    4.  HDD Activity light.  Off when HDD idle, blinking when HDD active.
    5.  Memory Card Reader light (Only on certain models).
    6.  Wireless indicator light.  Orange when wireless on.  No light when wireless off.

My Apple TV white light on the front of the box flashes continously. There is no response from the remote.
On the TV there is a picture of an appleTV box with a USB cable and an I-Tunes logo.
I do not have a micro usb cable. Is the only route to fixing this problem to download syestem software via my PC
    and I-Tunes?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)

  • How do you control LED lights on the front panel to identify the number of steps a stepper motor has taken?

I am controlling a stepper motor that is coupled with a valve with four outlets (using an Arduino).  I've got a general understanding of how to control the motor, but I want LED lights on the front panel to light up that indicate which outlet the valve is currently at after the steps are taken.  The method I'm thinking about involves a lot of repetitive code.  I'm not that experienced with LabVIEW, I'm assuming I need some sort of loop structure but I don't know how to set it up in order to control the sequence of the LEDs.  I've attached my current block diagram for a visual aid if needed.

I was thinking about using the Stepper To Go and Stepper Write functions four separate times, using the same constants for the steps each time since the distance between each outlet is equivalent.  The only difference would be what's connected to the "steps remaining" node, which would be the function that activates one of the four LEDs (if that makes sense).  I was thinking that doing it this way would be a little counterintuitive since the only thing that needs to be changed is the LED indicator.

today my mac won't turn on at all...the light at the front is remaining on and at a constant brightness however the screen is still black! I'm not sure what to do next?

If you can log in blindly or using the flashlight method, it is possible your screen brightness somehow got set all the way to nothing.  I don't have my Macbook with me right now to test it out but I believe it may not be possible to adjust the brightness at the log-in screen so you have to be able to log in first (though I could be wrong on that).
