PC-6023 MAX INPUT VOLTAGE

IN THE NAME OF GOD
I have a pci-6023E card and potentiometer . The ouput of the pot. is differential .
The (-)end is always 13.5 Volt and the (+) end is between 5to22 Volt. I connected the output of the pot. to the input of the card in dif mode and i could measure the output of pot( ie 13.5-(5to22) ) successfully. Is this a correct connection to the card?
The maximum working voltage of each input of the card , according to manual, is 11 volt, but my sensor (i.e pot.) outputs are 13.5 and (5-22) !!
I used BNC-2110 terminal in dif. mode for this exprement.
Please explain me that how the card can successfully measured this input?
Can this demage the card at ling time or not?
thanks
Edward. Hb.

Thanks Mr. Alan A
I am "434343" memeber.
I recive your response to my question about "Max input voltage of PCI-6023E" .But I have some questions.
According to the "Data Acquistion Specification- a Glossary by Richard House" ( Application Note 092):
"Maximum Working Voltage (signal+common mode)= the highest voltage level that can be input to board without saturating the input."
And according to your response:
"measuring a signal with higher common mode voltage than that(11V) might not accurate"
But in may experiment with a potentiometer (floating differntial source with (-)13.5V and (+) 5to22V),I could successfully measure the signal without saturating and without error (Max error is about +/- 0.02 volt)!!
I think that the maximum working voltage of PCI-6023E is greater then 11 volt??!!
or my measurement has a little error.
I think that I don't need to use a signal conditioning circuit.
Please Help me.
Thans again.

  • I'm not able to set Analog Input voltages, etc

    ok,
so i have an NI DAQ I/O card (NI PCI 6723, or something to that effect) and i'm trying to configure the channels for Analog Input signals.
when i try to choose any kind of setting for Anolog signal by:
    >>drop DAQ Assistant vi onto the block diagram
    >>>>choose Analog Input
    >>>>>>>Voltage
i get this message "No supported devices found"
i thought since I have the I/O card, i should be able to configure channels for both input/output.
i also have ADAC card (from IOTECH) installed but when i look at MAX, i only see the DAQ card.
i'm really confused at this point. can anyone break things down for me ... what i'm doing wrong?
    -r

    stuartG,
you were right. so what i'm using for the input is a ADAC 5501MF from IOTECH
following their manual (http://www.iotech.com/productmanuals/adac_lvi.pdf) it says that the ADAC-LVi libraries can be located at "Functions->User Libraries" palette of labview.
does this mean that i have to install the ADAC-LVi driver in LabView->User Libraries directory?
if that's not the case then i don't see why the ADAC-LVi is not showing up in the LabView User Libraries since i've installed the driver correctly (in C\Program File\ADAC )
do you have any idea why?
    thanks

  • Varying input voltage refrigerator testing application

I am working on an application for refrigerator testing. One of the specs that we need to comply requires that we vary the input voltage, (ex. 127 VAC for a 120 VAC unit) through some sort of voltage regulator. The biggest unit we test has a 2 hp compressor with a max current draw of 18 amps. We would like to know what equipment we would need in order to accomplish this through a LabVIEW application that we are working on. We could do this through GPIB, serial, etc. Any help on this matter will be appreciated.

You might be right.  I was think of one small 1.5 HP controller (Commander SE) we are using that is being powered by 1-phase 240 VAC supply.  So I was thinking the motor was 1-phase, but actually it does the voltage chopping to create a 3-phase supply to the motor.
It may be possible to still use one where you just use 1 phase relative to ground, but I'm not sure, and I'm not an electrical engineer to be able to tell how to do such a thing.  It may be worthwhile to ask them if such a thing can be done.  Or look around for some other motor speed controller manufactures that make a 1-phase motor controller.
I'm sorry, but I don't know where else to look or be of any help.

  • WLS 9205 setting input voltage range

Hi folks. I need some assistance in setting my input voltage range for my WLS 9205. There are three settings (it would appear) from the documents supplied with the DAQ device ranging from +/- 200mV, +/-1V and +/-10V. How can i create a dynamic menu in standard Labview to alter the settings within a .vi. I am not using field point or anything of the sort. The DAQ mx does not give me the option to select the range either.
On the old devices, you could alter setting using dip switches but there are no dip switches on this device. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Error when trying to edge-trigger to a input voltage smaller 300mVpp

The programm shown in a cut below (just a cut of it) reads multiple channels from the PXI5105. The program allows to choose between different triggers. When I choose edge-triggering and the value of the input voltage I am triggering to is smaller than 300 mVpp the program stops and sets an error. With the 'Highlight function' I found out that the error is set at the '1D WDT'-vi.
    The error message:
    ERROR
    "Possible reason(s):
    Driver Status: (Hex
    0xBFFA4009)
A previous acquisition is still in progress. If you are
attempting to change an attribute, note you can only change fetch attributes
while an acquisition is still in progress.
    Status Code: -1074118647
I guess, if the voltage gain isn`t high enough the '1D WDT'-vi waits the 'timeout' = 5s for the trigger, isn`able to get one, and stops. But what can I do to trigger to smaller voltages as 300 mVpp? There is no option to change it. The trigger level of the 'Analog Edge Ref Trigger' is set to 0.

    Well then that's not it.
Not triggering at low voltages- can be caused by either scale too high
(so that 1 bit is bigger than the trigger level, not the case here) or
scale too low (because of saturation the acquired signal never reaches
    the trigger level).

  • Analog input voltage fluctuation in myDAQ

    -Hello !
I have a turbine blade rotation sensing and measuring device (i.e. picoturn) connected to AI4 pin of BNC 2110 I/O board. I am using a PXI-1033 chassis with  PCI-6251 M series card in it. I have programmed an algorithm which acquires voltage from AI4 channel through DAQ Assistant and converts voltage into RPM.
Picoturn is connected to DC power supply (ranges 9 - 36V)
    These are the following problems:
    1. I will get error voltage readings if picoturn is connected to other channels except AI4 (i.e AI0,AI1,etc)
    2. The reading of the voltage keeps on fluctuating between 0.49 and 0.51, in both the cases of when turbine is stationary and rotating.
    3. If the power supply to picoturn is removed, even then I could see the fluctuations in the voltage reading from -0.0005 to 0.1 and above till I stopped running the program.
Could you please help me to solve these problems?
Attached is the VI of the program and manual of the instrument Picoturn.

What Error Voltages do you read when the picoturn is connected to other AI Inputs than AI4?
What are you using for the ground reference of your measurement?

  • Input voltage in LAP1242AG?

Following up the previous discussions on powering the LAP1242AG through PoE IEEE 802.3af, is there a way to monitor, using SNMP, the input voltage if (a) using IEEE 802.3af and/or (b) using external power 36-57 VDC?

    Hi AaronJudge,
Welcome to the NI discussion forums.  I have a suggestion about what may be occurring.  You mentioned that you are using SCC-SG04 module with a SC-2345 signal conditioning box. Do you
have the LVDT connected to the SCC-SG04?
If so, then you will not be able to change the range above +/- 100
mV.  The SCC-SG04 is a full bridge strain
gauge input module.  It has a fixed input
    range of +/- 100 mV.
In order to read the full range of your
LVDT you will need a different setup.
According to this Knowledge Base (Is There an
SCC Module that Can Be Used with an LVDT?) there is
not currently an SCC module that provides both the excitation requirements for
most LVDTs.  If you have and external
excitation source an SCC-AIxx module could be used.  There may be other options as well that do
    not use SCC.

  • SCXI-1120D input voltage protection:

    Hello All,
I have a SCXI-1120D input voltage protection question:
the data sheet specified 250Vrms. Does it mean signal plus CMV only? What if my signal itself is has a large potential difference (thus not CMV) , say 20V? Will the SCXI 1120D be damaged?
    Thanks
    Feilong

    Hi Feilong,
You are correct. The 250 Vrms refers to your signal plus the CMV. See Figure 3-2 on page 32 of the SCXI 1120D User Manual. The paragraph above Figure 3-2 also explains this. I hope this helps!

  • New problem, 2 of 11 channels do not respond to input voltages

Hi All, I recently posted a question about my output flat lining, Thanks for all the help.  Since then we thought the problem was gone.  I'm not sure.  We had an applications engineer here on monday morning and she was great.  She re-did our vi front to back and we thought we were in.  Except now two of eleven channels seem to not like us, they pick a voltage point all there own and refuse to read above that point, they just flat line.  The set up for the Daq is as follows: Brand new Dell (bells and whistles) that had one PCI slot available for the new PCI-6224 M-Daq board.  To this we have a SCC-68 accepting signals from a generic 5-B module back plane (all analog grounds are shared).  Into the 5B's there are mixed voltage and current inputs (all modules are matched to the inputs and all output 0-5vDc).  Most inputs work great, two do not.  The new Block diagram uses my pre-defined Task with eleven inputs(mixed) with a couple of empty spaces on the board (i.e.0 is empty, 1-9,12,15 have inputs)  The channels that do not like us are 1 and 7.  The new vi. was built by the appl. engineer using my task and the panel included an indexing array so we can watch all channels at once while the file runs, we also collect data to a .lvm file for later export.  We have tried rescaling the inputs on both the trouble child channels a number of times, we checked the constants for each array and checked the waveform graphs too many times to remember.  If I disconnect these two channels and in put known voltage levels from a calibrator on channel 1 I see a change in signal up to 1.063 volts Dc then it flatlines.  The scaling for that channel was set up numerous times using Linear and Mapping functions in Max.  No difference, even when scaled to only read the voltage input (y=1 x=0).  We did change the Task(i.e. build a new one a number of times and paste it into a copy of the vi. the engineer built for us, no help.  I should mention that I changed all of the inputs at that time to NRSE from RSE (after the problem) because I felt the description of NRSE fit our situation better (High hopes).  All of the channels share an earth ground with their excitation power supplies (I did not set this up, I adopted it and am trying to make it work) and most travel hundreds of feet to the setup.  I do read the voltages that are supposed to be there in the SCC-68 and I do see them vary as they should, but the Daq card doesn't see what I see.  The App's Eng. can't come back soon enough to help us again so I was hoping someone here might have seen this before and be able to set me straight on what I did wrong.  Thanks Rich.

    Hello craftsmanatlarge,
Every time I have seen this bahavior occur, it has been because the input limits of the virtual channel are not correct.  Whenever you create a custom scale for a particular channel, you then have to specify the input limits (max and min) in terms of the scaled units, not the raw voltage.  Please check to make sure that you have done that.  If you are still having trouble after that, please post back with the specific numbers you are using for max and min input limits, and we can troubleshoot from there.
    Best regards,

  • Analogue input voltages railing to +/-32768

    Adam
    Hi,
I recently bought a RIO-7833R PCI card and am having weird problems with it.
I would like to use it to measure analogue voltages. However, even when nothing is connected to the card, the analogue input channels are railing to +/- 32768. I've written a very simple program to measure these voltages and it’s hard to see how there could be a bug in this code (see attached image). So, I'm thinking it has to be something with the driver of the card or some other bug in LabVIEW, or perhaps a setting on the card that needs to be changed.
Complicating things is that I actually had another card that was doing the same thing that I returned. When they sent me this brand new card it also gave the same values, so I do not think it is a hardware problem with the card. In addition, I've also changed the computer the card was installed in, and again, I get the same values.
Has anybody seen this before? Could there be a bug in the labview driver? I've tried changing the setup of the card in MAX so that the measurements are "differential” or “single ended,” but this does not appear to solve the problem.
    Thanks,

    Hi Adam,
I understand you are getting some strange readings from the analogue inputs on your NI PCI-7833R.
From what you say I agree that it is unlikely to be a problem with your specific piece of hardware. I have had a search to see if there are any known hardware faults for this device fitting your description and didn't get any results.
I don't believe the driver will be creating a problem for such a simple task as long as you have the correct one for your hardware and OS installed. You can check that it shows up in the software section in MAX.
I would suggest then that you try using the known working analogue input project for your device in the LabVIEW example finder which can be found on the start up screen.
In the example finder Select the Browse tab>>>Open the hardware folder>>>R Series>>> Basic IO>>>Analogue Input - R Series.lvproj. This has the FPGA VI to deploy to your hardware and a test Host VI. See if you can then get the expected 0 input when unconnected and test with a signal input on the graph.
    Hope this helps

  • How to measure CompactRIO system input voltage

    Hello,
I would like to measure the voltage of the two 9-35V DC inputs going to the CompactRIO RT controller. I am using the 4-slot chassis due to space considerations and do not have a 24V analog input module on-board to be able to do this via a module. On the 9205 analog input module there is a hook for "chassis temperature" that works perfectly. I am trying to find a similar hook to read the voltage that the CompactRIO is running on.
I will be running this CompactRIO on two 24V batteries and wanted to be able to detect when the battery levels were too low to continue operation. When this state is reached, or hopefully prior to, I want to offload the data I have collected before running out of power to do so.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Eric,
I am not an electrical engineer, so trying to figure out a clever way to split the voltage and measure it on three different inputs would be a job for one of the other researchers here. This seems like a straightforward feature though. We are using the CompactRIO as an onboard controller for a robot, but I would imagine that other more "mission-critical" applications would benefit from knowing the voltage that is powering the C-RIO. Much like the on-board chassis temperature reading, it seems like an important piece that is missing from the basic feature list. I don't know if we even have the 3 inputs free on the AI module as they are used to control everything else.
    Hmm.
