PC and Mac compatible?

I have a friend who uses a windows based PC, they are doing updates with dreamweaver on a website for me - I run a Mac.
Can we both do edits on the same website using dreamweaver and the updates be compatible with each other?
I think I have worded that right..

Web pages are computer agnostic.
Doesn't matter how they're created (Mac, PC etc) provided they're written with HTML code - which DW does.
If you have DW on your Mac and your friend has DW on PC then both computers can happily update the same website.
Just ensure that you have Check In/Check Out enabled in DW on both Mac and PC so that you do not overwrite each others edits.

  • Problems Installing Software on a Mac that is both Win and Mac compatible

I am new to Mac. My kids have a bunch of games and some educational software on CD ROM. The software case's say the CDROM is compatible with both Windows and Mac. I have not had a problem installing them on my old PC but cant get either my iMac or Macbook to install the software.

Check the exact version requirements on the box. Make sure it says OS X. If it only supports OS 9, then it won't work on Intel Macs (e.g. your MacBook and 2006 iMacs).
Also, there are a few bizarrely-designed games that are OS X compatible, but the installer runs in OS 9. If that's the case, you'd need to install it on a PowerPC Mac, then copy the game folder onto your Intel Mac (using flash drive, CD, file sharing, etc)

  • Making PC and Mac compatible CD

I have 8 Captivate 3 lessons that I want to put on a CD. The
CD needs to run on both Mac and PC. At the end of each lesson I
have a link to go to the next lesson.
I have been able to get a version working with .exe files,
but don't know how to get that to function on a Mac. (Captivate 3
doesn't seem to have an option to make a Mac executable file)
When I try making .swf and .html versions, the link at the
end of each movie, that is supposed to advance users to the next
    lesson, won't work.
Any help would be appreciated. I'm at the end of my rope on
    this.

You can make the Mac/PC compatible CDs with Toast, do a
Google search for creating a Hybrid CD with Toast.
As far as moving from one SWF file to another, and using a
single file to launch your multiple swf files. Consider using Jesse
    Warden's Captivate Player. here:
    http://code.google.com/p/captivateplayer/
Captivate Player can be used as a container for multiple
captivate swf files, has a slick xml based menu and can be
published from flash as .exe win or an swf.
Also consider this link for autorun for mac

    Cheers, Hope that helps.

  • Pc and mac compatible drive format

I have a 2-year old macbook and it is a real piece of crap and I am unhappy that I bought it. I have a p.c. waiting for me for christmas and I was wondering how to change the format type on my external drive. Right now it is Mac OS extended (journaled) and I need to change it to a p.c. compatible format type. I also read somewhere that FAT32 can not handle files bigger than 4gb. If this is true is there a different format that is better. I will be burning a lot of movies and they will be more than 4gb. Also, If I could buy another mac I totally would, it just would not be a macbook. They are just so expensive compared to their p.c. counterparts. Thanks for all of your help.

I also read somewhere that FAT32 can not handle files bigger than 4gb.
    Correct.
If this is true is there a different format that is better.
No. Third-party software is needed for that purpose.

  • PC and Mac compatible email/print forms

I created an email/print from that I am running on my website. The email and print buttons work for my PC using customers but they do not work for my Mac using customers. How do I make the form compatible to both systems?

Well, the wireless router works fine but the hub I'm not sure. The hub came with a cd rom that stated windows and didn't mention mac. I got it from Bestbuy and the Geek Squad said it will work. Am I just doing something wrong within my settings etc? It didn't sound complicated when I bought the equipment and the two PC's recognized the new hard drive through the hub right away.

  • Digital Camcorders - What Kinds Are Good AND Mac Compatible???

Well, the subject kinda says it but so what are they? Im looking for good digital camcorders that have good video quality and that are Mac/iMovie compatible... My price range is pretty much anything $275 and under.

In that price range, you are limiting yourself to only a few, and video quality will be OK, but not great.
If the camera has a firewire jack on it, you should be able to connect it to your mac and capture to iMovie.
MiniDV tape cameras are the standard, but some of the newer hard drive/DVD cameras (AVCHD format) will work with the newest version of iMovie.
What's definitely necessary is the firewire jack. Cameras in your price range from Sony, Panasonic, JVC, etc. should work.

  • NAS that's Windows PC and Mac compatible?

    Hi All,
I'm brand new to the Mac world, I've never own a Mac of any kind before and I've played with one for a grand total of 10 minutes before deciding I want one. I ordered one last week and it should be here in a few days. I'm excited to say the least, but I have my anxieties that I'm sure will cause me to search this site frequently. Thanks to you guys, I've already answered quite a few questions; Pro Retina or Pro, Apple Care for Retina or no, Mac Air or no, Office or iWorks, etc.
    I appreciate that.
My most current question that's been difficult to get answered from any site is, "What's a good affordable NAS or Personal Network Storage device that I can use with my MacBook Pro Retina and my fiance's Sony Vaio"?
I've been stuck on the MyBook Live 1TB thing for some time now, but I keep reading uncomforting customer reviews.
A buddy of mine suggested I get a router with the ability to attached an External HDD for sharing, but I'm not sure if the set up will allow streaming of content such as video, music or movies. I'd like to assume it would since I'd just open the music, video etc from the external HDD and it should play if i'm not mistaken, but I'm not certain.
Anyway any help will be appreciated.
Oh the reason why this is an issue is because I researched on this site how to build the MacBook Pro and it was the consensus that Speed and Memory were more important than storage if money was an issue. So I did just that and I only have a 256 GB SSD drive.
So I'm trying to make it an easy transition.
    Thanks again
    Respectfully,
    Michael

  • External Hard Disks Windows And Mac Compatible

I have recently bought an external hard disk, which I plan to have one 80gb partition onto which I can do regular backups of my mac hard disk onto, and then the other 220 or so just for data storage. however I want to have the 220gb readable by both macs and PC's, and the 80gb as bootable by OS X (I am doing a complete Hard disk clone onto the external disk)
    anyone have any ideas

If you looked at Disk Utility [...]
I didn't mention Disk Utility at all. You do know that Disk Utility is just a simplified GUI front-end for the full functionality provided by diskutil, don't you? This does not make diskutil any less "officially supported".
Furthermore, the Mac OS X hints article is probably
not supported by Apple and therefore I didn't mention
it. I'm not in the habit of going against Apple
policies. Especially while I'm still under their
    warranty.
I have no idea what are you talking about here. Is this just FUD or what? Of course it is not "officially supported". Neither are many other useful hints provided at that website or elsewhere. So what? In no way does that mean that it cannot be done, not even that it shouldn't be done. Just do it at your own risk, there is nothing legally or ethically wrong about doing it.
Had you just advised the OP not to do that, I would have had no problem with it, and wouldn't have "corrected" you. But that's not what you said. What you said is wrong and had to be corrected, it's as simple as that.
I did Google what you asked and didn't find any
    relevant articles.
I wonder what did you Google for and whether you did actually read anything you found. These are just from the first 20 results I get:

If you have a solution why not you just explain it
Because it's not a simple solution and it's much better explained by providing a link to the web page where it's fully discussed by people who have actually tried it and compared it to other approaches. You're not trying to make me believe this is a bad idea, are you?
instead of trying to correct another poster.
Oh, man! You were wrong and had to be corrected. You're not saying that correcting someone who posts wrong information is a bad idea, are you?
Why have you chosen to take this personally I don't know, but I urge you to keep this discussion in strictly technical terms and support your assertions with facts, which as of now you've not done yet -- not that it has stopped you from requiring me to do it, despite I clearly had already done it, though.
It should be your intent to help the OP, not to try and
correct another poster, even if it didn't work.
Abe, I really urge you to calm down and re-read what you're saying. Correcting wrong assertions is part of helping the OP, isn't it?
Now, if you really think you were right when you said "There is not a way to have two partitions on a disk with one being Mac OS X format and one being Windows format", please support your assertion with facts and keep the discussion in technical terms instead of just telling me I shouldn't correct you. And yes, I will accept links to publicly accessible web pages that support your assertion as facts and won't require you to explain them.
    Regards.

  • Recommendations on a good back-up drive thats PC and Mac compatible

Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone had a good idea on any thing thats pretty reliable for a HD back-up for both my PC and MBA. I just bought the 13" 1.8 4GB 256GB version and I'm in love with it! I can't believe it took me sooooo long to convert but it's made me a believer! I would like a external hard drive that not only compatible for both but also serve as resting place for all my music and such so I can keep my MBA as clear as possible. I'm using the iCloud for my iTunes and think if I can keep everything off my drive until I need it, that would probably be the best for the MBA. I've had some crappy experiences with two WD's and was wondering if any of you guys something easy to use in mind...
    Thanks ahead of time!

  • Want to use a Lacie External Hard Disk with Windows and Mac? Can I?...

Hi, I've just purchased a Lacie Extreme D2 external hard disk, I'm looking to use it to move film clips from my Mac G5 to my Sony Vaio laptop. I'll connect the Mac using Firewire 1 and the PC using USB 1.
I understand there is an issue with setting the compaitibility of the hard disk to either Mac or Windows format but I'm wondering if I can set it to both, so it's possible to transfer these files? The hard disk is Windows and Mac compatible but does it have to be partitioned a certain way?
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Alex

Format the drive as FAT or use the Mac format (HFS Extended) and install MacDrive on the PC.

  • Are tiff files exported from PC, Mac compatible?

I need to submit photos from my PC OS via Lightroom that are LZW compressed and Mac compatible. Photoshop Elements has a setting for Mac compatible files but Lightroom 2.3 does not. Does anyone know if Lightroom exported tiff's from a PC are Mac compatible?

PC v Mac compatibility is a throwback to when the both computers used differents CPUs, and dependent on the hardware reading words left-to-right or right-to-left. Adobe TIF readers have never been CPU dependent because they were appropriately savvy of the TIF header and its CPU indicator.

  • If i use a usb flash drive which is both os and windows compatible can i transfer files from my mac to a windows pc using the same usb flash drive?

if i use a usb flash drive which is mac os and windows compatible can i use it to copy files from the mac to a windows machine. i have to do some training abroad and wnat to take the files on a usb from the mac but they will only have a windows operating system available to me.

Generally, it's not the flash drive that makes it compatible, but the formatting used on it.  In Disk Utility on a Mac, the format is called MS-DOS (FAT).  In Windows, I believe it is called FAT32.
A USB flash drive formatted that way should be readable and writable on both Mac OS X and Windows.  But you may want to try a "trial run" before relying on it for the trip.

I have an external firewire burner; it never shows on the desktop unless I insert a CD or DVD - that icon will then show (if I have my preferences set to show those on the desktop). Hae you checked in Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities) to see if it is listed under drives?
