PC at Work - Mac at Home - use both with iPhone?

I have a PC at work and a couple of Macs at home. I plan on using my iPhone for both personal and work use. From a work perspective, I would like to get to email, contacts, calendar etc (they are all on outlook.
From a personal perspective, I am interested in bringing in my photos, music etc. from my mac. I guess it would be nice to pull ical and pers mail as well. I think that Mobile me is the solution. However, I wanted to get thoughts from other people.
Thanks.

Hey CoffeyL,
The iPhone can sync from multiple computers.
This article goes over syncing in detail.

  • HT204074 I have a PC at work and a Mac at home. Both run Itunes under same Apple ID account.  How can I sync both computers to a common song library?  ITunes Match?

I have a PC at work and a Mac at home. Both run Itunes under same Apple ID account.  Each computer's itunes library is common by around 75% of the songs.  How can I sync both computers to a common song library, so that all songs can be updated for both computers?  Will ITunes Match do that?

I solved this by reset of the Wifi (unplug cable and power to both modem and wifi ... wait 60 sec ... plug in modem cable and power ... plug in wifi power and LAN to modem ... restart AppleTV and Mac ... Turn Home Share 'OFF' in iTunes then back "ON" ... it took ~60 sec for the AppleTV to pick up my Mac in computers.

  • Accessing work Mac from home

I currently work from home as a brand designer. I'm thinking of moving away (turning the home into a business and buying another home) - What's the best way to still have access to my main (work) Mac from home and what hardware is involved? I need to be able to work on the same files and not worry about having multiple versions on 2 different computers which will obviously create probs! Being a designer I work on large image files - something to bear in mind I think?
    Thx 4 any help.

The technical is easy. The practical is not. First the technical. Assuming that you will have an office LAN with your workstation, server, etc. the best method of connecting is a VPN. This is safe (read secure) and is generally pretty simple to set up. Assuming you have a Firewall/VPN in place, the cost to configure for your Mac should be trivial. On the high end, < $100 for a vpn client like VPN Tracker. Check your Firewall/VPN vendor for a Mac client. If they have one than no need to pay for a client. Other method include port maps but they are less secure and can result in system compromise when poor passwords are used.
But now for the practical. As a designer, you files are large. Attempting to open a Photoshop document across the internet is a exercise in pain and heartache. You would need a really fast connection (> 50 Mb/sec synchronous) on both ends and you still will be susceptible to loss of data and problems. (Recall that most LANs today are 1000Base (1000Mb/sec., and those that are not are 100). I would instead recommend doing a remote control of your work machine with ARD or Screen Share (VNC) or looking at Aqua Connect (http://www.aquaconnect.net/?page_id=26). The idea here is that your work machine remains running and you make a secure connection over VPN. Then you remote control your work machine and it is doing all the opening, saving, and communication with shared resources. All your home machine is doing is getting the screen updates.
    Hope that helps.

  • Using wifi with iphone 4

When using wifi with iphone 4 does it use up your data allowance? Also when using wifi with iphone 4 does your phone automatically detect the wifi present and uses the wifi or o you have to physically turn on the wifi inorder not to use up data allowance?

Wifi does NOT use plan minutes or amounts - it is wholly independent of your data plan.
Wifi cannot connect if turned off, so yes, it must be on to connect. And, you may have to log on to a network if you have never done so before (it can remember networks once connected the first time, and then will automatically reconnect when next in range).

  • Can we use siri with iphone 4

may we use siri with iphone 4

worse than julian made it sound.  Siri was actually disabled to run on the iphone 4 when the iphone 4S was released.  I had been using it and now I cant unless I buy the newest phone.  ever heard of planned obsolescence?

  • I have a work Itunes and a home Itunes how can I use both with my Iphone?

I have an Itunes on my work computer and another on my home, but my new Iphone will only allow me to add music from one of the Itunes.  I have purchased music on both Itunes how can I get this to work?

You can only sync with one computer. If you have the same account on both computers you can transfer all of your purchased music to one of them, then sync with that one.

  • Setting up a Network form my work to my home computer: Both are Macs

I have a Dual-Core Intel Xeon at work and a MacBook Pro at home. I want to be able to access my office computer from home. Is there a complete step y ste setup guide somewhere to talk me through exactly what needs to be done? I have a home network which works flawlessly (hard-wired over ethernet) but I'm just not sure how to go about making this happen. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Find the outside IP of the work Mac...
    http://www.whatsmyip.org/
Assuming a Router, set a static IP for the work Mac...
    http://portforward.com/networking/static-Mac10.4.htm
For Personal File Sharing with the work Mac, click that Pref in the Sharing pref pane.
Then assuming a Router at work, Forward ports forward ports 427 & 548 to the Static IP of the work Mac, pick your Router here...
    http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm
If perchance you don't have a Static IP at work, then you'll need a free service like no-ip.org or dynDNS to get you connected via name.

  • HT2731 can i have more than one apple id on a computer? As when we go away we want to facetime from our macpro to our main mac at home and both are registered under the same apple ID. Thanks

Can you have more than one apple id on a computer. We are going away and want to facetime from our macpro to the mac computer at home but both are registered under the same apple ID. What should we do ?

I will share with you what I have done to manage this with my family.  While the solution isn't without flawes, it seems to do the trick.  First, you need to have one person who is managing the synching of everyone's devices.  In my family, I have three iphones, about to be four, and five ipads.  We all synch to the same apple ID to allow one another to take seemless advantage of our Itunes, which is on our Imac.  To synch individual music or video interests, we simply select which playlists we want and manually synch that way.  A couple of us use imatch and the cloud to make the entire library accessable as well.  With respect to the imessage, mail, contacts, etc. we each have a gmail account for our individual emails, contacts etc.  So for instance, my forth grade daughter has a gmail account that we choose to synch her contacts, calendar, etc to and then that is also the account where she receives her imessages from on her ipad and itouch. My son, who has an iphone and ipad, does the same thing, but under settings, he goes to imessage and checks his phone number and his email as his preferred way to receive imessages and texts.  My wife and I do the same thing.  To avoid having everyone see one anothers contracts etc, we only synch contacts from our individual email accounts.  Here is the downfall to this:  When you update your phone or add a new device, apple always wants to reset everyone's facetime and imessage settings and then low and behold we are all receiving imessages from one another's friends etc.  To work around this, I simply take each of their devices and go to their imessage settings and only check the email and phone numbers relative to their devices.  I dont' know is this is the best solution, but it seems to work for us.

  • Getting a new mac and want to use both with iTunes

I looked around the forums and the main site a bit and didn't see anything specific on how to do this, but I am currently using iTunes with my macbook and I have all of my iTunes content on an external hard drive. When my new mac arrives I first want to be able to use it as the primary device for iTunes (still want to keep content on the external drive) and need help on how to set it up (preferably w/o losing any content especially my iPhone backup) and if possible I want to be able to stream iTunes content to the macbook with the same account.
    Thanks in advance!

I'm not exactly sure if my library database documents are on the external or not. I do know that I just have my entire itunes library on the external. Any way I could check to be sure?
your entire iTunes folder, not just the iTunes music (or media) folder, should be on the external. the iTunes folder contains, among others, the *iTunes library file* - which will be the database both your Macs need to access. click here for information.
And if not, how do I go about moving the documents to the external
just drag & drop them over. next, on one Mac after the other, launch iTunes with the option key pressed. you will see this window
click on +choose library+ and navigate to the +iTunes library file+ (which should be located on the external HD inside the iTunes folder).
As far as using the macbook with iTunes I guess I'm looking for a way to share the music with it after I have setup the new mac to be the main iTunes machine. I know there's the option of Home Sharing in iTunes so is that all I need to do?
home sharing should work okay. click here for information.
    for another option, click here.

  • Need to control my work mac from home

Hello all wise and knowing. I have a G5 at home and 1 at work. I need to be able to control my work computer from home with decent speed. I have a T1 at work and cable at home, but I don't know how to acheive my goal. I tried Chicken of the VNC, but its horribly horribly horribly slow. I read about remote desktop, but it doesn't seem to be what I need. Anyone have a suggestions? Please.......

VNC is the only free option. If you're willing to spend money and ARD doesn't do what you want, you could look into Netopia's Timbuktu or the just-announced PC Anywhere 12.0 from Symantec which now supports Macs.

  • Various problems when trying to use both my iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 at the same time? HELP!

I am experiencing a wide range of problems with both of my iPhones. They are both a 4 and a 5. I will list the problems I am having.
    Using both phones:
A few weeks ago I recieved a new phone, the iPhone 5 as my contract was renewed. I backed-up my old phone, the iPhone 4 to my computer and restored it onto my 5. But when using my 5, I discovered it has 'no service' (but will use wifi), it won't send IMs OR texts and Apple constantly keeps asking me for my Apple ID which i recently changed but still uses the old email, and won't accept any passwords.
The 5 used to send IMs and texts but they would be sent to my friends through my email address, so I googled this and went to messages>send and recieve, and the only thing i can select is my email, not my number. I am using the 4 as well, purely so I can send texts and IMs through my name, not my email. The 4 also has signal and wifi, whereas the 5 only has wifi. I am wondering if the 5 has no signal and won't send IMs & texts because I am still using another phone? Surely they both cannot work together, so I was thinking I could reset my iPhone 4, and then see if the iPhone 5 will work, once the second phone isn't used anymore. If that doesn't work, I thought I could reset my 4, back-up my 5 and then restore again. I think that will work, but I have no idea.
I have absolutely had it with trying to figure it out, I have used google but nothing seems to work. I am really hoping someone can tell me what to do with all my phone problems, because they are absolutely driving me mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I need to use the 5, it is costing me an extra £60 a month to use and I feel as though that money is being wasted as I can't text, IM or call people. Should i just get rid of the 4 and see what happens? I read online that to stop iMessages coming through as your email, you should turn it off and use regular texts. BUT I DO NOT WANT TO DO THIS. I send way too many texts, and it would cost a fortune. I also can't send photo messages on texts, because they cost a bomb to send through. I want to be able to use both texts and iMessages - using my name, not my email.
To add on to that huge essay I have written, on both phones Apple CONSTANTLY asks me for my Apple ID which I recently changed. I changed the email and the password, and it is coming up with the wrong email, and whatever password I put in, it still says it is wrong. It doesn't make sense, because yesterday I purchased some music from iTunes and when asked for my Apple ID, it used the right email and accepted the correct password. ...??? yet it still keeps getting it wrong, even though it worked in iTunes. ??!?
Okay so I just reset my iPhone 4, and nothing seems to have changed...I thought if I reset it, it would be completely wiped, like a brand new iPhone 4, but it's not....THIS IS SO IRRITATING! Can someone please help me! I GREATLY appreciate any answers, hopefully someone on the internet can fix my problem! thank you for taking the time to read this essay, I am very thankful. PS. Both phones are up to date.

You said, "the 4 also has signal and wifi whereas the 5 has only wifi". By "signal", I'm assuing that you mean cellular signal. If so, that means your iPhone 4 is still active on your cellular number and your iPhone 5 is not. Contact your carrier to sort out which phone is active on your account.

  • Just bought an ipad air and I have an ipad 2.  I would like to use both with the same computer.  Can someone tell me how to do this.  Do I have to set up a separate user.

I just ordered an ipad air and I have an ipad 2. Can someone help me so I can use both ipads from the same computer.  The new one is for my husband and I am going to take the ipad 2.  Do I have to do something different since they will be using the same computer.  Any help you can give me would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance for your help.

It's no problem. I hope this explanation simplifies the information in the Link Demo gave you. It's how I think most people do it...
To avoid having to pay again for apps you have already purchased, use the same Apple ID (likely the current one) on both devices. You can adjust this in:
Settings > iTunes & App Store.
So that you can communicate with each other, use separate Apple IDs for iCloud, Messages, and FaceTime. Adjust those in:
    Settings > iCloud
    Settings > Messages
    Settings > FaceTime

  • Can I use both my iphone 5 and 6plus with 1 cell number?

I love the size of my iphone 5 for quick texts, retrieiving voice messages, making calls. I've ordered the 6plus as I end up doing lots of work on my phone when transitioning between events of my day - my eyes are begging for a larger display. While I know I need to give myself a period of time to adjust to the larger size for typical phone functions, I'm thinking of keeping the i5 for just the functions I love. Can I operate both phones with the same phone #?

My Iphone 5 (6.1.3) was working perfectly with my Apple tv3, streaming videos, musica...
I have just upgraded both and....No AIRPLAY, Both connected, both with internet conexion but my apple tv somehow does not work properly (my ipad retina does not pick the ATV neither)
I have restarted it three time as well as conected it to itunes to restore it 3 o 4 times now...
    Just getting bored...
I have restarted the router too (oddly enough someone, somewhere suggested it) but no luck so far.
    Techs ideas welcome,
    Thanks guys
