PC build for PrPro & SpeedGrade

My builder is suggesting some body parts for a new editing machine, based on an Asus mobo listed below with 32Gb RAM, re-using my current EVGA GTX770-4gb video card and twin-raided SSD system drive ... but of course, there are choices. I don't know between the chips he's suggested which is best especially of course per dollar ... though a few dollars here & there I'm not worried about. And is the mobo a good choice for cost/performance?
Mobo:
ASUS Z97-PRO(Wi-Fi ac)/USB 3.1 LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 ATX Intel Motherboard - Newegg.com
RAM:
CORSAIR Vengeance 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model CMZ32GX3M4X1866C10 - Newe…
Based on the above, he offered these chip choices ... and reasoning ... I try to follow his reasoning, but ... I'm not the tech brain he and clearly some around here are. And while he builds incredible gaming machines per dollar, he doth get frustrated when Adobe doesn't code things the way he thinks they should, and his knowledge of just what works for the Adobe DVA's isn't as comprehensive as many here. I have had him look at the Tweaker's page. I don't know how much weight he put on what he found there. Anyway ... these are what he suggested for CPU ideas given the above choices ... would love to hear thoughts & suggestions.
Assuming we get any one of the options to an extra 800Mhz with the same $300 cooling system, their total Mhz per dollar scores are:
6 core Ivy-Bridge @ 4.8Ghz / $1325.99 = 21.7Mhz/$
6 core Haswell-E @ 4.1Ghz / $0689.99 = 35.6Mhz/$
4 Core Devil's Canyon @ 4.8Ghz / $639.99 = 30Mhz/$
Or, in the context of single threads, like a given video stream, where its simply top speed / $:
Ivy-Bridge @ 4.8Ghz / $1325.99 = 3.6Mhz/$
Haswell-E @ 4.1Ghz / $0689.99 = 5.9Mhz/$
Devil's Canyon @ 4.8Ghz / $639.99 = 7.5Mhz/$
So while the old Haswell offers in stock speeds the greatest Mhz per dollar ratio in a general sense, the Devil's Canyon gives the best top-speed per dollar.
In contrast, using stock cooling and keeping stock speeds, the per-dollar efficiency is pretty stellar:
6 core Ivy-Bridge @ 4.0Ghz / $1025.99 = 23.3Mhz/$
8 core Haswell-E @ 3.0Ghz / $1049.99 = 22.8Mhz/$
6 core Haswell-E @ 3.3Ghz / $389.99 = 50.7Mhz/$
4 Core Devil's Canyon @ 4.4Ghz / $339.99 = 51.7Mhz/$
So basically, the sweet-spot for efficiency without taking into account the cost of building a whole machine to support the CPU, is the Devil's Canyon as linked, sans additional thermal units. Taking it into overclocking, however, we would expect to pay 117% the cost for 120% capacity. This is one of those very rare cases when I'd recommend doing so.
Neil

first, game machines are based off maxing the graphics. most get by just fine with an i5 and a high end video card or two or three. video/graphics programs are the opposite. they use the cpu much more than the graphics, and in some cases like AE, use the graphics very little to none. video games are still primarily 32-bit applications, which only use 2 cores but usually run better on 4 core cpu's. most video/graphics programs are now 64-bit which will make use of as many cores as given. the problem is with bad/sloppy programing, which adobe is guilty of. parts of the program are still single threaded, 32-bit based, and therefore can bottleneck the program as everything has to wait just for one part of the program to finish. AE is guilty of this, as many of its effects are still 32-bit and ruin its performance. they have their tricks to help get around it, but its still terrible. they are supposedly working on updating it to be true 64-bit and use the graphics card to catch up with the other major players in that market, but who knows when they will do that. these may be some of the things he gets frustrated with, as would anyone who buys a fast computer only to have the software bottleneck itself. this is becoming extremely important as intel is adding cores and dropping its clock speeds to gain performance/speed. intel has some xeons with 12, 14 and even 18 cores. that 18 becomes 36 with hyper-threading! any program thats not full/true 64-bit could bottleneck a $50,000 super computer into a $500 dell. this is why its so important that software companies get their act together.
so for parts, if you need to save money build around a i7-4790K and possibly re-use your ram. if you have the budget, get the latest and greatest, the new haswell-E. the i7-5820K is best value, but there is also the i7-5930K and i7-5960K. the new haswell-e takes ddr4 ram, so you wont be able to re-use your ram. ddr4 also costs a bit more as its new tech. if you are overclocking and paying for high-end overclocking components, then you can afford to go with the haswell-e.

• Updating my .ipa in DPS App Builder for testing is not working

Hi there,
I've build my .ipa file in DPS App Builder for testing on my iPad before I publish it to the app store. No problem. I tested it and saw some modifications to make. I made the changes on my folio, updated it in the folio builder of indesign (on the cloud). Then I get back to DPS App Builder and rebuild an .ipa file from the "Manage" and "Modify" windows, it download and test my certifates, seems to work ok. Then I've created the new .ipa file (after erasing the old one on my desktop and iTunes) but when I synch it back on my iPad it's not updated. It's still the first version of my folio without the changes.
I tried to create a new app from the beginning but the single edition serial number does not work anymore. So my only solution is to update my folio, right? But what is the right way to do it? Am I missing something? I didn't find any answer in the step by step guide about that.
Or is it possible to delete completly the first version in DPS App Builder to recreate it without losing my single edition serial number as I didn't submit it to Apple yet?
Do I have something to do in the Folio Producer?
Thanks for your help.
Julien.

Single Edition Serial is one time use thus modification is not possible from your end directly in case you wish to use the same serial number. For such cases you need to contact DPS Support, who can get an approval on a serial number reset after reviewing the need.
In this case, I'll take this offline with you in reference to forum post # http://forums.adobe.com/message/5597607.

• XML Publisher Template Builder for Adobe Acrobat

Need a XML Publisher Template Builder for adobe acrobat as is available for word.

I did so.. however, publisher is not able to substitute xsl syntax by the actual value..
eg.
i had a <?X_PO_NUM?> in word (either using text field or manually writing this..) and i converted the word doc into pdf using third party s/w..
when i uploaded this template pdf with sample data file using xmlp admin repsonsibility, and tried to preview the output,
substitution is not happening..
the requirement here is, to have some input fields in final PDF output for which report-users should be able to type values in.
for which I assume initial template has to be in PDF itself..
any ideas or pointers will be much appreciated..

• Release Build for Dev vs. Production environment

I'm working on a very small project that performs an LDAP
search using a CFC on our Dev box. The folder structure between
Development and Production are the same so when I create a release
build and copy it from the dev environment to the production server
I get a "send" error on the client. The compiled release build is
copied to the same folder structure location as it was on the dev
box, but I believe the application is still trying to point to the
dev box ip address vs. the production server address. How do I
handle exporting a release build for a different server than the
one I'm developing on?

How is your classpath build up?
if it's like this:
SET CLASSPATH=c:\prod;c:\dev
try
SET CLASSPATH=c:\prod
CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;c:\dev
if that doesn't work try setting your classpath to nothing:
SET CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%
Please tell me if this helped, I've had a lot of problems with my PATH and CLASSPATH to, and I ain't sure I gave the solution. So please reply to let me know this is the answer or not.

• How to find out the differences in minor builds for components?

Hello,
We use crystal 10 included in a vb6 application for reports design and viewing. When we changed our installshield version, for a reason I haven't understood yet, our versions of all the crystal components changed with it. This got identified as a problem with some minor difference in a small bit of functionality, what I'm now looking for is to know what changes were made between the builds for these components. If it's very minor changes that will not affect us we will leave these components as they are, if there are any major changes that will affect us we can either test their impact or make the decision to revert to all the old versions and re-release the software.
I've spent just under an hour looking for the information but to no success, this forum really helped me out before with a weird crystal problem we were getting so thought I'd try here!
These are all from the Ciphr Install\Common\Crystal Decisions\2.5\bin directory.

Hello,
We are facing an issue when triggering a new build using TFS 2013 Update 4, VS2013 Update 4 using TFVCTemplate.12.XAML template. All our other older build definitions just work fine but not the TFVCTemplate.12.XAML. It seems to me that some certificate

Thanks,

Hi Mitul,
Thanks for your reply.
It’s strange, if your old build definitions can work using the same TFS Build Server, that indicate your TFS Server configuration is correct and can works. But only new build definition with default TfvcTemplate.12.xaml template cannot build successful.
Please share your TFS Server detailed environment information here. And share your
Build Service Properties dialog screenshot here.
Try to clean the Cache for TFS 2013 manually(delete the content of the folder only, not the cache folder itself):
Clean the Cache folder on Server machine. The folder path is:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Team Foundation Server 12.0\Application Tier\Web Services\_tfs_data.
After cleaned, on Server machine, click Start and select
Run… to open the dialog box, then input iisreset.exe and click OK, wait it run completely.
Additionally, you can run the TFS 2013 Power Tools BPA to scan the installation of your TFS Server.

Hi all,
How to create a project in Flexbuilder for the hybrid store

in my system,
will you please tell me how to create a project for this
sample.
I have also read the readme.html file. but i could not follow
exactly what they are saying.
what i did is, I unzipped the source code into a folder
hybridstore.
I opened the flexbuilder : File -- new -- flexproject ( i
have selected) then i have given name to my file (hybridstore) ,
and set the path to the hybridstore folder where the source code
exists.
but it as created hybridstore.mxml file also.
it is not working.
will you please till me how to create project for this
application.
I have created project for other samples like restaurent
finder, dashboard. they are working fine.
I got problem with this sample only.

Hi,
thanks for your reply,
I have tried to open using file import, but still it is not
working.
in the readme file for this application , contains how to
Creating a project in Flex Builder for the Hybrid Store
application:
Name your default application catalog.mxml.
Prevent Flex Builder from generating an HTML wrapper: select
Project > Properties. Select the Flex Compiler page, deselect
the Generate HTML wrapper file option .
Create a Run configuration for your project but deselect the
Use defaults option and instead assign the Run setting to the
hybridstore.html in your project's bin directory.
To enable debugging of the Hybrid Store application you must
create a copy of hybridstore.html. Open it in an editor (you can
right-click on the file and select Open With > Text Editor).
Find the line that says "src", "catalog" and change it to "src",
"catalog-debug". Assign the Debug setting to this new HTML file.
As i am new to flex , i could not know how to do this.
please help me how to do this.

• Unable to see columns of Data Model in Template Builder for Word.

Experts,
My customer has defined Data Model,
and when Ct is trying to insert fields into their documents,
the columns in the Data Model can't been seen in Template Builder for Word.
(in tool bar; Oracle BI Publisher > Insert > Field)
The details is as follow;
(Data Model)
Name : TEST
Type : SQL Query
SQL Query : select case_id,case_name from TEST where case_id = :p_case_id and serious_flag = 'Y';
'p_case_id' is taken from LOV.
(sample data in TEST table)
CASE_ID CASE_NAME SERIOUS_FLAG
1 case1
2 case2 N
3 case3 Y
In this case, CASE_ID and CASE_NAME can't be seen in Template Builder.
But we can see the columns when the sample data is as follow;
CASE_ID CASE_NAME SERIOUS_FLAG
1 case1 Y <-(*)
2 case2 N
3 case3 Y
I mean, the data of the first row (in this case, case_id=1) is hit by the SQL query,
we can see the columns in Template Builder.
I'd like to know whether it is an intended behavior.
Regards.

Hi,
I reformed the sample data in TEST table.
In this case, the columns in the Data Model can't been seen in Template Builder for Word.
CASE_ID CASE_NAME SERIOUS_FLAG
1 case1
2 case2 N
3 case3 Y
But we can see the columns when the sample data is as follow;
CASE_ID CASE_NAME SERIOUS_FLAG
1     case1     Y     <=(*)
2 case2 N
3 case3 Y
In fact, when the data of the first row (in this case, case_id=1) is hit by the SQL query,
we can see the columns in Template Builder.
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

• How to do subtemplate Using XML Publisher Template Builder for Word 5.6.2

Is it possible to do subtemplate (similar to subreport in crystal report) using XML Publisher Template Builder for Word 5.6.2?. If yes, can anyone explain how to call or import subtemplate from main template?
Thank you
V.Piraba

Hi V. Piraba,
Here is how it works for me in Microsoft Word 2003. I'm not sure if it will work in Word 5.6.2.
Creating Subtemplates
1) Make sure you fill in the “Territory” field when creating Subtemplates. Otherwise there will be no way to import the Subtemplate into another Template. The Import command requires the Territory field to call it from other Templates. You will get a big Java error if you try to import a Subtemplate that does not have the Terriroty field populated.
Importing Subtemplates
1) Place the following syntax at the beginning of your XML Publisher template to import a subtemplate (in Oracle Applications)
<?import:xdo://XDO.[Template Code Name].English.US?>
Example: <?import:xdo://XDO.WC_SUBTEMPLATE_LOGOS.English.US?>
2) Use the following commands to importing Subtemplates from local/network drives (outside of Oracle Applications):
<?import:file:C:/Temp/WC Subtemplate - Logos.rtf?>
<?import:file:L://Templates/WC Subtemplate - Logos.rtf?>
<?import: file:///C:WorkChemical.xsl?>
You can email me at [email protected] if you have further questions.
Hope this helps!

• Lightning 1.0 build for the Thunderbird 3b4 build for Solaris 10?

I use Thunderbird as my primary email client because quite frankly the version of Evolution in Solaris 10 is awful.
I posted to the mozilla.support.calendar list over in google groups some months ago asking what happened to the Solaris builds of Lightning
http://groups.google.com/group/mozilla.support.calendar/browse_thread/thread/12e27450b2cc67e0/7877dde2ace2ebf2
Essentially they said Sun used to provide servers to build Lightning on and now they don't. What does it take to get Sun to provide those again?
Evolution 1.46 is atrocious. 1999 called and wants there email client back....
The latest build for Solaris is Lightning 0.9. Of course the project itself has moved on to 1.0+. 0.9 still works with Thunderbird 2. Thunderbird 3 while still in beta is already so much better than Thunderbird 2, but it requires Lightning 1.0 builds. You can download Sun contributed builds of Thunderbird and Firefox from the mozilla releases site. Why not build recent Lightning builds so people can actually use their Sun calendar with the Sun contributed version of Thunderbird?

slo_chewie wrote:

A similar question was asked w.r.t. 64-bit Linux builds:
"Dan, regarding 64bit nightlys, this is somewhat dependant on Thunderbird itself having 64 bit nightlys. We will surely have contrib builds with 64 bits for releases though."
The latest build for Solaris is Lightning 0.9. Of course the project itself has moved on to 1.0+. The project has not hit 1.0 release (or beta) yet.

• Can i use flash for ui and interact with c++ builder for the rest

i know flash can be used in c# in visual studio but i dont remember a thing of this interaction.
is it possible to interact with c++ builder and how?
the scenario is simple
use flash for UI (showing-viewing data) maybe for a kiosk or something without mouse simply with touch input,
use c++ builder for the rest , database connection data proccessing etc
any info will be greatly appreciated
thanks

I would advise proper punctuation and grammar on a public forum, but to answer your questions, yes, yes you can! Flash can be used to produce any commercial imagery or animations for the purpose of making profit, as long as you have a valid license you purchased from Adobe. You bought it, you can use it for whatever you want.
By "book", I assume you mean the "tutorial" book series made by Adobe? If so, the name of the series is "Classroom in a Book", there's one for each versions of Flash. Personally it hasn't been of much use and I would advise simply practicing by yourself and getting familiar with the tools. Look for online tutorials and publicly available projects and see how they work.

• Form Builder for Oracle 9i

Hey greetings all
i am using oracle 9i and now wish to make interfaces for my database project using any form builder. The first option was to use form builder for oracle 9i but i have heard that its tought to learn and heavy on system. now 2nd option in my mind is to use oracle developer 6i. can anybody suggest what shall i use? my project is not very complex or bigger. i just need simple interfaces for it. plz give suggestions. Thanks in anticipation.

Hi ,
It depends on the type of application you want to have....an application on web environement automatically or an application in client-server environment which ,of course , can be run in Web but Oracle Application Server is needed with some configuration steps...
Also , the Oracle Form Builder 6i is the last version of Forms which the produced runtime file (.fmx) runs on non-Web environment...and some time in the future Oracle will stop to support it....!!!!!
its tought to learn and heavy on systemIt has some wizards... which can help you very much in your productivity and of course in the learning of this tool.....
It is not considered much more heavy to the system....
NOTE: Just another thought...If the application is very simple and needs to be accessible form just a few people in a room , then Oracle Forms 6i may be sufficient ...!!!!
