PC can not connect to the Internet...sort of

Hello everyone,
I have a laptop(Win XP Home Ed) connected wirelessly to an AE, previously i was able to surf the internet w/o problems but soon after, there was a message from "ZoneAlarm"(???) re some security problem then afterwards, i always get the ff message :The connection was refused when attempting to contact "website" when i try to surf. What is strange is i can connect to the internet with WinMedia Player to listen to internet radio streams and thats it.I have a secured home network with the ff configuration:imac is directly connected via ethernet to the cable modem, cable modem then is connected to the router then router to airport extreme, emac and laptop(windows xp) wireless. Please help

Zone Alarm is a third-party firewall software application for Windows. Someone (you?) installed it on your PC. Firewall applications like Zone Alarm can cause all sorts of bizarre problems with internet access.
First disable Zone Alarm, restart your PC, and see what happens. If that fails, then uninstall Zone Alarm from your PC, restart your PC, and see what happens.

  • Can not connect to the internet. This is a new problem since I have been using firefox for years.

I can not connect to the internet. I called mediacom due to the problem and they connected me to internet explorer. They indicated I should contact you for help in connecting to the internet. It appears firefox has made some kind of change since last night since I was using firefox for my internet connection last night. Something has changed. Your help will be appreciated.

The only way that file opens thru IE8 for me ''(but not actually in IE8)'' is by using the Zip Utility (then IE closes) that is in WinXP and then opening the two image files in the Windows Fax and Picture Viewer.
I think Firefox is trying to display that file because the MIME-type is for '''''text/plain''''' instead of the appropriate MIME-type of '''application/vnd.google-earth.kml+xml''' or '''application/vnd.google-earth.kmz'''
That is something that needs to be configured in the server that is hosting that file type. Sorry, I don't know how that can be fixed. The one support person here that might know lives in Europe ''(I believe)'', so you might need to wait for an answer.

IP routing doesn't work the way many folks might initially think it does; functional IP routing requires manual configuration and the establishment of static routes and default routes specific to the local network configurations, and it's very easy to get it wrong, or to get the default route swapped. Multiple NIC boxes don't magically work, either. (Been there, done that, wondered what happened to my network when the paths got reordered or my route settings were messed up, etc.)
Routing configuration errors can be quite subtle, too. (Again, voice of experience. Ever had a thousand-seat office LAN accidentally routing through your desktop? As the, um, unnamed guilty party discovered, getting into that configuration was subtle. Seeing the performance crater on the fellow's box and on the LAN was obvious.)
Knowing how IP routing works is a prerequisite to getting this configuration to work; there's manual configuration required. Clearly something has gone weird here.
What to do? Read up on IP routing. I'll again suggest the threads and the manual mentioned earlier.
And in general, I prefer to avoid using my comparatively expensive Mac boxes as sub-optimal IP routers or as firewall boxes. General-purpose operating systems and generic x86 boxes are going to be inherently poor IP routers. Dedicated routers (or embedded or surplus x86 boxes with routing software loaded) offload the Mac boxes here, and are also typically easier to configure manage. And "real" IP routers can have hardware specific to efficiently routing packets. Use of an outboard firewall or firewall-router box also greatly simplifies gateway routing, too; it's a configuration that many folks and many businesses tend to use.

  • I just downloaded the latest OS upgrade and since I can not connect to the internet using my cellular data plan.

I just downloaded the latest iOS.7 upgrade on my ipad2, and since I can not connect to the internet using my cellular data plan.  I have checked my data plan and it's both current and over 2GB remaining.  However the indicator shows no service, thus would be the best steps to recover.  Thanks much for any support that can be provided.

  • Was always working and today I get a message that it can not connect to the internet. Internet Exployer works fine. So, I tried uninstalling the program and reinstalled. Still did not work. check out the proxy and firewall no problems there.

I get a message can not connect to the internet when trying to open Mozzila Firefox. It was working fine until my internet service went down. Once back up it was not working. I have tried installing and uninstalling the browser. I have looked at the firewall and proxy on my computer. Still not working Internet Exployer works fine. Deleted all cookies also.

Did you check your security software (firewall)?
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.

  • The wireless symbol is present and indicates a strong signal, but I can not connect to the Internet.

The wireless symbol is present and indicates a strong signal, but I can not connect to the Internet.  I'm  on my home network and have never had trouble before.  My iPad is current on all updates. I have tried to reset the network settings, nothing has worked.  I can connect to the internet via my iPhone  personal hotspot and all other wireless devices are operating normally on my home wireless network.

I am also having this issue. My boy just got an iPod 4 touch, upgraded to iOS 6. I have a D-Link DGL-4300 108G Wireless Gaming Router. With the iPod I can connect to the router, get an IP address (either DHCP or Static) and even browse through the menu on the router, but I can't connect to the internet.
With a DHCP IP address the iPod give the error "Not connected to the internet" with the static IP address it takes a long time when trying to connect to a website but then it gives the error "server stopped responding".
Clearly the issue is in some setting in the router. I've tried setting up a filter so that the iPod will always have access based on MAC address. I've tried changing the various wireless connection settings, all to no avail. I would greatly appreciate some guidence here.

  • After downloading IOS 8.0.2 I can not connect to the internet, any solutions?

After downloading IOS 8.0.2 I can not connect to the internet, any solutions?

It is not the wording but the lack of detail.
The iPhone connects to both the phone network (3G, LTE, etc) and to WiFi networks.  Which one (or both) are you having issues with?
If it is the phone network, go to Settings->Cellular and see if Cellular data is turned on globally AND for the apps you wish to use.
If it is a WiFi network, go to Settings->Wi-Fi and see if you are connected to a network.  If so, touch the circled "i" next to the network name and see that you have a valid IP address, etc. (take a screen shot and post it if you don't know what to look for).

  • After updating my mac from snow leopard to mountain lion, i can not connect to the internet anymore

After updating my mac book pro from snow leopard to mountain lion, i can not connect to the internet anymore ;(
Anyone know what is wrong with it??
Is something wrong with mountain lion or the wifi itself????
    HELP PLEASE!!
I need to use the internet desperately but i cant...
    Thank you so much xxx

    Hi galleryskins,
The article below may be able to help you with this issue.
Click on the link below to see more details and screenshots.
I've quoted some helpful highlights for you:
OS X Mountain Lion: Zoom content on the screen
Zoom with a mouse or trackpad
To zoom in and out, hold down the modifier key you specified while you perform the scroll gesture.
For example, if you have a trackpad and used the default settings, zoom in by holding down the Control (^) key while you drag two fingers up on the trackpad. Zoom out by holding down the Control key while you drag two fingers down on the trackpad.
If you chose Picture-in-picture zooming, a window appears near the mouse cursor with the magnified image. If you chose Fullscreen zooming, the entire screen displays the magnified image.
I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!

  • Linksys Wireless Router BEFW11S4 - Shows connected, but I can not connect to the internet

I have a Linksys Router hooked up to a cable RCA modem using Comcast Cable. There are 3 laptops that hook up wirelessly to the router and they have been working fine for the past two years. However, recently all three laptops can not connect to the internet for some reason. I checked with Comcast and they checked out the modem and tested it and it works fine. When I hook my laptop up to the modem with an ethernet cable, it works fine and I can get  on the internet. When I hook the modem up to the router and try to connect wirelessly it appears to be fine. It shows that the router is connected there is connectivity on all our laptops, however when I open a new internet explorer page to get on the internet, it does nothing. A blank page appears and the webpage will not load. Does anyone know how to fix this? Is it the router or the way it is setup in the admin page or could it be possibly something else? Thanks.

As it shows connected under wireless ....check the Ip address under wireless network connection .....
If it shows Ip 192.168.1.X ....with gateway 192.168.1.1 ..... try to pnig the gateway address ...
If getting reply try going online ....
    Also disable the firewall first.....

  • HT1338 Software Update says it can not connect to the internet - why?

I had to take my MacBook in to have it worked on. I can't afford to buy a new one so I have to fix this one. I had OS 7.2 Lion installed. Since then Software Update will not work always saying I should check my network connection to make sure it is operating normally as Software Update is not responding. I also get messages that I am not connected to the internet. I tried to update iPhoto 9.2 to 9.2.1 and when i finally got it uploaded off the internet [took forvever] it would not load saying I needed iPhoto 9.2. to load it! When I tried to send what I had shot from PhotoBooth to iPhoto 9.2 it said I did not have iPhoto at all. Is there anything I can do myself to correct this situation? Has anyone else experienced this kind of thing?

Did this happen to you, too? Or something similar?

  • New MBPro...airport connection established but can not connect to the internet...help! suggestions?

Hi all, trying to set up my MBPro...seems to be connecting to my AirPort Base Station w/out any troubles...but when I try to get online I'm getting a "can't connect to the Internet" message. I checked my network settings, restarted multiple times, etc. No luck. Seems to be a problem with the IP address (I think)...but not sure how to resolve it. I have an iMac and iPhone in the house that are able to connect and get online w/out issues. Any thoughts? TY!!

Are you asking the make/model of the computer or the AX base station?
Neither, I was interested in the make/model of the cable modem.
Our ethernet connection was fried in an electrical storm so we had to go wireless.
Electrical storms are never a good thing when it comes to electronics. What was/is your current network configuration? Is it something like the following?
Cable modem > (Ethernet cable) > AX > (wireless) > wireless devices
Is there another router, other than the AX, in the configuration? ... or an Ethernet switch? I'm just trying to understand your network to best advise you on how to configure the AX.

  • Can not connect to the internet

I just upgraded my girlfriends computer to Tiger from Panther. Now She can not get on the internet at all, neither can I while her powerbook is on. When it is asleep or turned of I have access for some reason.
Anyone know how to fix this?
I have a PowerMac G5 dual 2.0 running 10.4.7 witah an airport card.
She has a Powerbook 1.33 running 10.4 also with an airport card.
Should I just downgrade her back to Panther?
Thank you so much for any help.
    Dual 2.0 G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

There should be an admin page on the router. It is typically "192.168.1.1". Just type that address into the Safari address bar. If that IP address doesn't work, go to your Network Preferences and enter your current IP address, changing the last ".nn" number to ".1".
It sounds very much like both computers are trying to use the same IP address. Usually though, the computer will pop up a nasty error message that says that. I haven't seen that message in MacOS X, but Windows and the old MacOS did it.
I do not think that reinstalling Panther will help. Check your Network settings. They should be set to DHCP with an automatically assigned IP address.

  • Time Capsule has green light, but I can not connect to the internet.  Help please

Just got a new Time Capsule.  After a few tries, I finally got the green light.  But I now can not conect to the internet.  Help please.

Problem Solved.....call ATT and they gave me the information I needed....account is a PPPoE.  Use your ATT email address as the username, and then ATT provided the network password.  Enter the information, update, restart.  Now, internet access is achieved.
