PC can't see Airtunes Speakers, While Mac Can

Hello,
My Windows XP Professional PC is connected to the same wireless network as my PowerBook G4, with an Airport Express set to join the wireless network to share printer and play iTunes music.
The Mac can print and see the Airtunes speakers in iTunes fine, but the Windows machine can print, see iTunes shared music, but not see the Airtunes speakers!
My "look for Airtunes speakers" option is turned on, I've reset the Airport Express several times, uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, and am now at a loss.
Anyone willing/able to help?
Thanks.

Make sure the firewall built into Windows XP is turned off, make sure any firewall or "internet protection" software you installed on the PC is disabled or uninstalled, and make sure any VPN client software installed on this Mac doesn't also have a built in firewall enabled.

  • ITunes won't see Airtunes Speakers

My iTunes 6.0.1 no longer sees the speakers connected to my Airport Express.
I have both a Mac and a PC, and the Mac can see the speakers, but the PC can't!
The PC is running Windows XP Professional with Bonjour networking installed.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks.

Had same problem and went through an hour-long diagnostic with Apple support, reinstalled all software etc. After sitting and thinking about it, I removed the security from my wirelessrouter, made sure all wireless devices had the same WEP key and then restarted WEP security on the router. Instant fix and praobably didn't need all the wasted time on re-installs !!

You have to do it on the Apple TV itself while it's plugged into a TV so that you can see its screen.

Learn how to update the software on your Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation). It's always a good idea to have the latest software on your Apple TV.
    Update your software
Select Settings > General > Update Software. Apple TV checks for an available update; if one is available, a download message should appear.
Click Download and Install to start the download process.
Do not disconnect your Apple TV during the update process. The Apple TV status light may flash slowly during the update and restart process. This is expected behavior.

  • Can't see airdrop on my mac

can't see airdrop on my mac (its a imac)

I did two complete installs of Lion and AirDrop was missing from the Finder Sidebar both times.  I believe the cause is the age of my MAC 24" 32bit Intel computer which was built in late 2007.  On my wife's 10/2010 15" MACPRO laptop everything installed perfectly.  Obviously Apple did not test their installs on older hardware.  Other issues I had to resolve were the old Network Utility version 1.4.5 was not removed and showed up under applications while the new one version 1.5 showed up under Utilities were it belonged (meaning Launchpad had two duplicate apps).  The older one was missing the BSD package, but this was not the real issue.  I trashed the earlier version.  Java had to be installed when the install was done.  A glitch occurred with moving files out of a desktop folder.  They would snap to the far left upper corner.  This was resolved by restarting in safe mode, followed by a second restart when safe mode was complete.  And to add insult to injury, 1Password does not load IDs and passwords any longer, but that's another vendor's problem.  I filed a bug report on the Apple Developer website.  That's all for now.  I previously had to remove Sigma Chess, a legacy app that required Rosetta.  Lion is not as stable as Snow Leopard was, because Snow Leopard was tested on the older hardware.

  • How can I see the bitrate while playing a DVD?

(I posted that also on the DVD Studio Pro page, but there I got an advice that points to a professional and expensive tool - Digigami's 'Mpressionist'. Maybe here someone can help me with a simpler sollution. I will post on both sides potential sollutions.)
So, I have a DVD encoded with variable bitrate, and I want to see the bitrate while playing the movie. In QuickTime I can see only the "global" bitrate, not the one of the actual scene.
    Thanks.

For the moment I got only that:
    - MPressionist, a very nice tool, but very expensive too;
    - MacDVDBitrateParanoia that displays the bitrate of the whole DVD as a graph, but not while the DVD plays, so I can not see the relation between complexity of a scene and the bitrate.

    This indicates a network issue.
Power cycle the ATV and router, reboot the computer.

Well if there is a EFI block, then running a program in OS X isn't going to do a lick of good.
After all EFI was designed for Trusted Computing and Digital Rights Management, to act between the OS and hardware, can read drives, contact the Internet and everything.
Windows doesn't use EFI, will have UEFI in Windows 8 though.

  • I can't find older emails in my Yahoo account or iPhone app BUT I am able to see them on my Mac Mail version of email. sent emails are OK.

... for the past few months i have noticed that emails in my inbox Yahoo mail account older than a few weeks keep disappearing. i cannot find them in my Yahoo account or iPhone app BUT i can see them on my Mac Mail version of email. Emails that i have stored into folders in my yahoo account are still there... same with my sent emails... it's just the Inbox emails.. strange, very strange. I don't know how to 'move' the emails from my Mac Mail  back to my Yahoo account.

Please read and begin using Can receive email, but not send email. I had a similar issue with Comcast mail (could receive by not send) and found my answer in this letter. For me it took resetting the outgoing mail and telling the system to use a password when sending outgoing mail. If you need help with that please advise and I'll tell you where to look.

  • Airtunes speakers "being used by someone else"

Hello. I have an Airport Extreme running a WDS, and an Airport Express as a remote basestation on that network. Everything works fine, except that, as of last week, choosing the Express' remote speakers in iTunes results in the message that they are "being used by someone else."
I have tried everything I have read in the forum, to no avail. My firmware is up to date. I have the latest iTunes (6.0.1). I'm running 10.4.2. I have set the Express back to factory default, and set it up again fresh. I have renamed the Airtunes speakers. Nothing does any good.
The story is this: a couple of weeks ago, our receiver blew out, and we took our system apart for repair. At that time, Airtunes was working perfectly. We got the receiver back, fixed, and reinstalled everything this past weekend. Airtunes gives me this error now. We have a TiVo Series 2 box plugged in to the Ethernet port of the Express, and it is networking fine. I have not installed the TiVo Desktop software, so my Mac running iTunes should not be confused about where it is sending audio.
My only thought is this: Airtunes settings include the checkbox to enable Airtunes over Ethernet. This choice, while enabled, is also grayed out, so I can't turn it off (I'm told this is part of the WDS or something?) Could the Express be confused, with something plugged into the Ethernet port, thinking that this is using the speaker setup?
I tried running iTunes with the TiVo unhooked from the Ethernet port, in fact, I tried it right after factory resetting the Express (I never plugged the Ethernet jack in) but it still gave me the "being used by someone else" error.
    Can anyone help?
    Thank you,
    Danny.

    Henry,
Well, I am glad to hear that it isn't the settings, nor the TiVo plugged in. But that does leave me in a state of limbo, eh? To reiterate, I have restarted the iTunes running Mac (we also have an iBook, but it has been shut down for all these tests), and I did factory reset the Express.
Would it help to factory reset the Extreme? I wouldn't think so, it having nothing to do with Airtunes... but I'll try anything.
I've seen in other threads that iTunes 5 appeared to produce this effect for some people... (though the majority of them were streaming fine and then would suddenly lose their speakers, whereas mine never make an initial connection...) could it be that iTunes 6 and 6.0.1 are doing it to me? There was no posted resolution for those other people, so I don't know if they had their issue solved.
    Still tuneless,
    Danny.

  • HT1399 I was able to see the lyrics while playing the audio when my iOS was 6.1.4 now i do not know what to do to see the lyrics while playing the audio or a karaoke

I was able to see the lyrics while playing the audio when my iOS was 6.1.4
now i do not know what to do to see the lyrics while playing the audio or a karaoke after upgraded(?) to iOS 7
Is there any chance to see the lyrics in iOS 7 or i want to degrade it to 6.1.4?

Thank you for responding. I'm not sure if my complete original message came through. It was just today that an automatic update notice came through, and I installed the update that was offered. So I have to guess that version — 10.1.10 — is the latest version that's available to me. My OS is 10.6.8. Again (in case the complete message isn't appearing), I'm on an older Mac, specifically MacBook 2.1. Perhaps this is the problem, and I never should have updated a few years ago. If so, I wonder if there's any way I can go back to that earlier version that worked well for me, rather than the last few versions, which have not.

  • Accessing external speakers while using airplay

While using airplay I am unable to use my external speakers through the audio system that I use.  When I go to preferences and sound I do not see external speakers listed.
I have used this same system for over a year now, but now external speakers are not listed, only the internal speakers are listed.
When using my iPad I have no problem using the external speakers.  The problem is only when using my MacBook Pro.
    Does anybody have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Ron

Thank you for the response. I was afraid that might be the case. I've been trying to think through a way to connect the ipad so that I can use the connected speakers inside while using airplay to connect to the ihome speaker outside. It looks like it is one or the other. I didn't think about that when purchasing the speaker for outside.

  • Cannot See Remote Speakers

Downloaded version 6 and can no longer see my remote speakers. Wife has an iBook and it sees the remote speakers so I know our wireless LAN is OK. I've disabled my Firewall and restarted my router and airport express and still cannot see the speaker selection box.
    Any thoughts?

Yep, all that checks out. I can stream music to the speakers from my iBook just fine, but the PC Desktop (with the big, fat hard drive filled with all our music) doesn't work as well. The PC won't see the external speakers. Running iTunes from the iBook, I can "see" the PC's music collection, but it only works for, say, ten to fifteen minutes and then the iBook "loses" the PC's music collection.
The PC is connected to an Airport Express for it's internet connection. The internet keeps working fine, so I know it's not a range issue. If I hard-connect the PC with an ethernet cable to the main Airport, I suspect it will work fine (haven't tried that since moving this summer, but it worked that way in the old place). Also, if I reset all the Airport Express components, essentially rebuilding the wireless network, then I suspect the PC will "see" the speakers for a short while and then lose them again. Haven't tried that in a few months, when I last got disgusted with the issue.
From what I read on here I suspect it's a bug with iTunes for Windows. Is there any way to send a bug report to Apple?

  • ITunes 10.7 on Snow Leopard unable to select AirTunes Speakers

We have a Mac Mini Server running 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) that used to be able to play through speakers connected to either of the Airport Express access points on the network. We're running the latest version of iTunes (10.7). iTunes sees the speakers on the access points, but will not allow you to connect to them (you can try to select the speakers, but the selection doesn't stick). This used to work nicely, then it mysteriously it quit.
Our other machines (a variety of MacBooks running Lion & Mountain Lion, all with iTunes 10.7) are able to use the AirTunes speakers on the AE access points. I'm more than a little puzzled. So far I've tried the following incantations:
    Repairing permissions and rebooting.
Various magic sequences of disabling Home Sharing and shared music libraires.
Removing all traces of iTunes and then reinstalling from a fresh download (of 10.7).
Sacrificing a turkey (to those outside of the U.S. this is a regular ritual on the 4th Thursday in November, we call it Thanksgiving, the turkeys call it mass murder – the next day we assuage our guilt with a shopping frenzy).
None of these has produced the slightest improvement. If anybody has any suggestions, I'd sure appreciate them.

Try updating using a .dmg installer downloaded from the Apple website:
