PC card adapter for Powerbook

My wife's employer would assign her an old 15" Powerbook or buy a new Windoze laptop, so she did the right thing and took the Powerbook. Now, the problem is that it doesn't have an Airport Card installed, isn't Airport Extreme capable, and I'd like to add 802.11b (good enough for her needs) or better.
There are several brands of PC card NICs for .11b/g, and elsewhere in this forum I saw a recommendation for a Linksys, but most mfrs. including Linksys, don't show compatibility with OS X (10.4) or offer driver downloads. Could I guess that the Airport driver will run them or should I continue searching for someone who makes an OS X compatible PC card & driver? I have standard Airport in my iBook to run Admin Utility for the home network, so that isn't a consideration - more improtant to have compatibility with hotels and convention centers that she visits.
Thanks!
Dual USB original white iBook   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Yes, all PowerBook G4s are Airport ready. The Aluminium PowerBooks require the Airport Extrememe card while the PowerBook Titanium (I'm not entirely sure if it's all in this case) require the original Airport card which is no longer available.
Presuming your wife has an Aluminium she will find the slot for the Airport card in the battery bay. You can find the installation instructions here…

  • Express card adapter for NI Express Card 8360

    Hi All,
I am trying to find a USB or Firewire or eSATA or PCMICIA to express card adapter for my laptop (DELL Latitude E6400) to connect an NI Express card 8360.
I have searched for adapters but they are all based on USB2.0 technology but the link below seems to suggest that USB based adapters wont work.
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/B5E9398279914984862574F700049847
I was wondering if any of you had the same issue and got it to work one way or the other?
The idea is to use the express card to communicate to a NI PXI-1033 PXI rack.
    thanks and regards,

    Hi ace,
There isn't really anything I can add to this issue except to echo what it said in that link. NI don't manufacture such adapters so I can't recommend any, hopefully someone else has had some experience with this and can offer some advice on the issue.

  • Where can I get accessories and power adapter for Powerbook 180c

My father just bought me second hand a Powerbook 180c. It looks to be in great condition. But it can't be checked to make sure as the battery is dead and the power adapter was not with it. I've looked on line at various stores, Office Depot, Staples, Amazon, Buy, etc only to find that they either do not carry Apple products or the accessories and power adapters would not work. Or the prices are disgustingly high. Due to illness I cannot work and my parents are on a limited budget. Does anyone know what sites carry accessories and power adapters that will work on the 180c without breaking the bank, atleast a power adapter for now, to see if the 180c even works? Any advice appreciated.

Hi, I'm not sure that a retail store will still carry an adaptor this old unless it's a generic one.
I just checked mine, as Jan says it is 7.5V DC at 3.0A don't get the older version which was for older PowerBooks as it was only 2.0A. The part number on my 3.0A is M5652.
This fellow on eBay seems to have lots.

  • Is there a flush microsd card adapter for MBP?

So I have a late 2013 13" Retina MacBook Pro and I have to say I'm surprised at how the SD adapter comes out as far as it does when inserted.  I would think with the usual Apple design that if someone were to use and SD card, they wouldn't want it sticking out that far.
Anyway, is there a microSD card adapter that exists which would be much more flush with the unit?  I'd really prefer it not sticking out as far as it does. Thank you.

    mva5580 wrote:
I think that'll do, thanks!  I'd prefer a microSD adapter since I already have the 64gb card but if that's my option, then that's my option.  Too bad there's not an 128gb version for the 13" 2013 Pro, I'd probably buy it.
There are many other options it there, however you didn't appear to finding any, so I gave you some examples.
There are a lot for the Raspberrypi, but I don't know how the MBP slot would handle them…

    http://quilix.com/pio
If the MBP SD reader is spring loaded (if it pushes back to pop out the card) I'd consider trying one from Adafruit (it's cheap enough) you should be able to 'press it out' with the spring if it goes too far in!
I'd spend some time comparing sizes to a normal card though & see it it looks right - the last thing you want is a blocked slot
There must be a Micro SD card version for the Retina MBP, that was just the first one on Amazon, try any other sellers local to you.

  • PC-wifi Card adapter for mac

ok so heres the problem. cingular offers a wifi card that would just plug into a pci slot on a pc laptop for internet access all over the nation. http://onlinestorez.cingular.com/cell-phone-service/cell-phones/phonedetails.jsp ?id=cdsku9870019
pretty sweet stuff. now the box of the card only lists windows capability, but what i was wondering is if mac powerbooks have slots similar or equal to that of which i would find on a pc, or if there is an adapter that is made for such. the reason i dont know this is casue i dont own a mac as of now but i am a realestate agent and am planning on buying a laptop and i have my heart set on mac. i just need to make sure all my business needs are met, and this is one feature that i would find advantages. thanks for all your help.

Only the 15" and 17" PowerBooks have CardBus slots which you can insert PC cards into.
Your link does not work (asks me for my zip code which I don't have), so I can't work out which Cingular product you are referring to.

  • 3rd-party AC adapter for Powerbook and Macbook?

Looking into buying an AC adapter to keep at a 3rd location I'm spending a lot of time at. My current Powerbook won't live forever, so I'll probably be getting a Macbook (Pro) in a future that's nearer and nearer, and thus it'd be great if I could feed a future laptop off the same adapter. There are lots of adapters to work with whole collections of laptops, but for now I haven't found a single one that comes with the connectors for both a Powerbook and a Macbook. Are these models that different in their power requirements?

Apple was very slow to license its proprietary MagSafe connector to other manufacturers, though it appears they've finally done so now. For the longest time, it was just impossible to find anyone selling third-party MagSafe adapters, and those who did were clearly buying Apple adapters at full price and cutting the plugs off them. It made their products exorbitantly expensive. That's no longer the case; you can find junk MagSafe adapters online now for less than $25. I wouldn't buy one, but you may want to consider that option.

OK, I have a unit with A1021 on it. I recall that one could get the international plug set as an accessory and just replace the little clip-on adapter, but the unit itself remained the same model number. If you have the clip-on plug or cord assembly already for UK plugs, then the A1021 should work fine.

  • How to replace power adapter for PowerBook G4

I have a three year old powerbook G4 and the power adapter is toast (at least I think that's the problem). Doesn't charge and no illuminated ring around the connector to the computer.
Does anyone know how to replace this? Can't find it anywhere online or at Mac retailers.
    Thanks.

Replace the power adapter plug? Most folks won't bother, it's a hassle. The whole adapter is easily available from any Mac vendor. But before replacing anything, have you tried the following:
-reset the Power Management Unit (PMU)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1431?viewlocale=en_US
    -reset the PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1431?viewlocale=en_US
-unplug the power adapter from the wall socket for a while to reset.

  • Which USB to DVI graphics card adapter for MBP 13

After talking with Apple reps who had different answers, I understand that to do a second external display on a MBP 13, the only option is a USB to DVI adapter that basically has a graphics processor in it. My question is, does anyone know which brand is decent?  The reviews are all over the place.  I realize that you can't do video, but this is just for basic office work so I can connect my two Samsung 1920 X 1080 24" screens.

I would go with OWC, they have been in the Mac business a long time and are reputable.

  • How to get internet for powerbook g3

I have a powerbook g3 with documents on it that I want to email. It has internet explorer 4.6 and netscape
communicator, but neither works with my current modem fron ATT. Any ideas?

    Walter,
Would it be correct to assume that the PowerBook is connected by an Ethernet cable to one of the Ethernet (LAN) ports in the 3801HGV gateway? Have you tried the same type of connection with a newer Mac or with a PC?
Are the Mac OS 9.1 TCP/IP settings OK?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA20782
Unfortunately, the Mac OS 9.x web browser options are limited. You may want to test iCab and Classilla, since these possibly work better with modern web pages.
    http://www.icab.de/
    http://www.floodgap.com/software/classilla/
If necessary, you could download the browsers on a more modern computer, and then transfer the files to the PowerBook. Depending upon the exact PowerBook G3 model (original or Series), such a transfer can take place on a CD-R, a CompactFlash card in a PC Card adapter for CF, through a network, or on a USB flash memory stick. Keep the downloaded files unaltered until on the PowerBook; use StuffIt Expander for decoding/decompression once they have arrived there.

  • Memory stic pro duo and adapter for cybershot dsc p200

I boought a memory stick pro duo 2 gb and adapter for my cybershot  dsc p200 camera and when installed it reads no memory stick .

    Hi BigDawg,
    Welcome to the Sony Community!
When you inserted the card in the camera, did you try to format it? Does this happen with other cards or just this one? And may I also ask the model of the adapter you're using?
If you've tried to format the card and still get the same message, we recommend checking both the port and the card adapter for any dirt or debris. If this doesn't happen with other cards, the card or adapter that you're using may be defective. The dedicated adapter for this card is the MSAC-M2.

All Symbian ^3 devices support bt 3. I couldn't find further details about it but I want to benefit from the 21 MB/s or above for my C7 and N8.
    1. Is it possible with bt 3 adapters to get the 21 MB/s in practice?
    2. Are there BT 3.0+HS  cards/adapter for PCI, PCIe or USB out there? In germany you can't get it nowhere. I only found mini PCIe cards for notebooks but nothing for the USB slot or desktop PCs in general.
User experiences are also welcome. ...compatible with OVI Suite?....

Sorry to share this with you but the "so called phones" do not have high speed  because
" The High-Speed part of the specification is not mandatory, and hence only devices sporting the "+HS" will actually support the Bluetooth over Wifi high-speed data transfer. A Bluetooth 3.0 device without the HS suffix will not support High Speed ... "   -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth#Bluetooth_v3.0_.2B_HS

    Hello,
If it is a PowerBook G4 with a PC Card slot, you have two possibilities. You could buy a USB card reader for SD, or a PC Card adapter (such as SanDisk's 6-in-1adapter). Please note that you are or may be limited to plain SD (that is, not SDHC) unless otherwise noted. For a USB reader, make sure that it has Mac support. BTW, is an SD card absolutely necessary for the firmware update; is there not a way of updating via cable? If you post back with the camera model, someone may be able to provide additional information.

  • Wrong 'mini dvi to video' adapter for my 12" Powerbook 1.33

I recently bought the M9319 mini dvi - video adapter for my 12" Powerbook 1.33 to find that the mini dvi on the adapter is a different size to the one on the computer and the adapters supplied with the computer.
I've been doing a bit of research into this and it seems a bit of a grey area. Apple have not made it clear in advertising this product that it is only suitable for the newest 12" Powerbooks and even state that it will work with a 1.33 machine in their following article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86507
Has anyone had a similar experience, or suggest an alternative product that will work? Did Apple make an older version that works with the 1.33?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Graeme.

Just took the adapter to my local Apple store and they identified it as a mini VGA to video adapter - not what it said on the packaging!
I've noticed a few posts with this problem, so just double check before you leave the store that the packaging matches the product.
