PC Card Requires Restart?

I've just bought a Wireless PCMCIA Card for my Powerbook 17" because the internal Airport has failed. Though I find that if I remove the card I have to restart.
For example if I want to use my CF Card reader I must remove the card, restart then insert the CF Card. Then to get back on the wireless I must remove the CF Card, restart, then insert the Wireless card.
Is this normal behaviour? I always thought that PCMCIA was hot-swappable.

This is not normal. The fact your airport card is fried in a 17", which was a built-in card to begin with says there may be other things which have fried along with it. Have it serviced by an authorized service technician.

FireWire Card readers require restart

I'm a photographer. Since loading Snow Leopard, every time I eject a FlashCard from my FW400 reader, I have to restart to access the next card.
Believe me, I have 2 identical FlashCard readers. They both work perfectly and consistently. I use them all day, everyday.
Since Snow Leopard, if I restart, I can access a card. Once I eject the card, I can not read the next card without restarting (Grrrrrr). (Log out doesn't do it and "relaunching" the finder does not work)
Any ideas please? I appreciate any info or to know if someone else is experiencing this as well.

Graphics Card requirement

I just downloaded Pixel Bender plug-in, but I get an error message that my graphics card can't handle the image. What's the graphics card requirements for PB? I have a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT in an aging MacPro. Thanks. Jim

I tried a 600x400 jpg and pixel bender worked. I reduced to 4000x2680 a 12 mega pixel capture from my D300 and while pixel bender launched without an error message, it froze the system when I tried to use a filter; power off button was the only way to restart. I guess my equiment is too old, or the plug-ins too unrefined for serious work. Thanks for the suggestion. Jim

Anyone seeing this issue? Advice re how to fix?
My iphone mail app regularly requires restart to get mail flowing. That is it is running (doesn't crash) but will at time just stop getting email updates. I then have to force close the mail app (i.e. kill it) and then restart it. After restarting it the mail flows again.
Notes:
a) I do connect to Gmail for my mail - I'm using the IMAP facility for gmail currently (i.e. not the "Exchange" method)
b) I do also have the Google "Gmail" app running on my device too
c) on iPhone 3GS, latest version of IOS

I have this same problem too. I have both a hotmail and work Microsoft Exchange account setup on my iPhone and have intermitent issues with both. Sometimes the hotmail push works, but my work email doesn't push, other times it's backwards, and sometimes neither work. I can't figure it out. Usually restarting the app (closing out of the multitasking bar), and/or going into settings and disabling the affected mail account works. And to top it, I have an iPad, I'll hear the mail chime go off on my iPad, expecting it to go off on my phone....and it never does, not until I manually fetch it.
Very frustrating.

Hi Lionel,
As a general rule of thumb, the ATI Rage 128 Pro will not support a 20" LCD. That being said, there are reports of it doing just that (possibly the edition that went into the cube).
I'm not that familiar with the ins and outs of the Cube, so I can't give you authoritative information on it.

Powerbook Requires Restart Often

My 15" powerbook has been having problems for about a month. When I start it up, the screen freezes and has a message to hold down the power button for several seconds to shut down and restart my computer. Then, if I wake it up from sleeping or start it the first time in the morning, the mouse gets stuck and will hardly move. I have to then shut off my computer and restart it. Then the mouse works fine.
I don't have apple care and the powerbook is about 1 1/2 yrs. old. I don't have a lot saved on it--just photos and music. No big files.
Any suggestions would help. I did try to clear out the PRAM, following instructions from another person having another problem. That slowed down the frequency of required "restarts" but it hasn't solved it.

What you are seeing is a kernel panic.

What happens in an application deployment if I uncheck "Commit changes at deadline or during a maintenance window (requires restarts)"? If I have an application deployed to a collection with a maintenance window with a scheduled to be available
now with an installation deadline of one week, what would happed? What about if the application was deployed to a collection that did not have a maintenance window and there were no maintenance windows defined in any other collection the member clients
were in?

This is for Embdedded devices, like ThinClients.
That means write filter commits either at deadline or during a maintenance window.
Your application still installs as you schedule it, available now and install week from now. If you have maintenance window and selected to not install or reboot outside of maintenance window, then everything happens within maintenance window. If you don't
check that box for write filter, then your app or setting you have just pushed does not get saved when device is rebooted.
Same scenario with no maintenance windows. If you don't have maintenance window then your app downloads and installs as you schedule the dates. Write filter would not commit these changes and everything would go away after reboot.

Thanks for the flag J.K. - they contaced me and solved my problem. On this account (which I created just to ask this question), I log in with my email rather than my user name (mtalldud). On the account that I was having trouble with, they told me to use my user ID instead of my email to log in and it worked. This is a bit confusing and seems a bit inconsistent but at least I don't need this temporary account any more to get into this community and find answers!

Does Java Card require a USB CCID-compliant smart card reader? I'm currently working with PC/SC usb token and it requires usb CCID-compliant smart card reader, which seems very inconvenient for my clients and I'm wondering if Java Card has the same issue? (I'm thinking about switching the project to Java Card)

Hi,
You will still need to install drivers for some card readers to function correctly. I know some work out of the box on Windows and OS X (10.5+ at least) ships with the pcsclite CCID driver from the Muscle card project. When I view my reader in Windows device manager the Manufacturer is "USB CCID Compliant".
The only real difference between what you are doing with the USB CCID token and Java Card is that the card and reader are separate in the Java Card option where as the USB token has the reader and chip in one package.

You can use this option if the account, for example a Guest or temporary account, cannot be assigned for delegation by another account.

I updated to the newest version, it requires a restart to finish, tried repeatedly,but always takes to requires restart,how to fix?

After downloading FF latest version which requires restart to finish, the new vs. just will not load. Everytime I try to open the FF Icon, I get the same restart required window. My PC runs WinXP, XP suggested the following:

Why XL line cards required for OTV?

According to Cisco's website, there are specific types of line cards required to support OTV on N7K (N7K-8 port 10GbE with XL options, or N7K-48 port 10/100/1000 Module with XL option).
Q1: Do I have to use the physical ports on those line cards to make OTV related interfaces? Can I use logical interfaces, and use physical ports on those line cards for non-OTV connectivity, such as used as a layer 2 access port?
Q2: Since OTV feature is enabled globally, why the requirements for specific line cards in the first place? What the features/services provided by the line cards for OTV operations?

Has anyone seen design docs that suggest using 10-Gig ports for the OTV interfaces? I know the Q&A indicates support for all M1 line cards (not F1 or F2), but I'm wondering if there's any clearly defined design reason for not using the 1-G line cards for this (such as the N7K-M148GS-11L).
I'm basically asking if it would be recommended (for a system with no additional open 10-G ports) to purchase another 10-G blade (such as the N7K-M108X2-12L at $27), or could we do the job with spare ports on an existing 1-G card? I've been through several docs, and while none of them indicate 10-G connectivity is mandatory, I'm hoping for a reason why Cisco might be pushing/recommending this for any size of OTV deployment.
